Photo app empty

My photo app on the iPhone 3G is empty after uploading to iOS 4.1, even if iTunes believed that they had been synced.

Photo glitch on my 3G as well.
I don't normally leave photos in the camera roll. I load them into iPhoto then delete them using the iPhoto option. I did that a couple of days ago for 2 pictures recently taken.
Now since the 4.1 update, every time I connect the phone iPhoto pops up and briefly shows those latest 2 photos, then instantly blanks them out even if I uncheck the box for hiding already-imported. When I look in the Photo app on the phone, it shows 2 in the camera roll, but both appear as grey rectangles with a big question mark and the letters THM underneath. They cannot be deleted or displayed by the photo app.
Just tried something else and surprisingly it worked. Opened the Camera app and it showed one of the THM broken photos in a thumbnail at bottom left. Tapped on it and it showed the same image full size, but now there was a control strip across the bottom. Tapped on the garbage icon and it deleted the bad photo; repeated for the other one and now it says no photos. Sure enough when I synced the phone iPhoto did not pop up. So finally that bit of data corruption is probably cleaned up.

How do I clean up mail in my icloud?  I have already deleted old mail (from all my e-mail accounts) on all devices, and emptied the junk & deleted files, but it still shows that I am at max on my icloud. What do I do to free up space? (photos & apps do not take up that much room).  When I go to manage storage on any device & it will display how much room each program or app is using, it still shows that my e-mail is taking up the most room.  Is there a way to actually log on to the icloud server to manage what it stored there?  If so, how do I do it?  Also, on a related subject,  why does my mail not sync accross all devices?   ie. when I delete an email on one device, why do I still see it on all my other devices?  How can I change this?
I have an iphone5, ipad2, ipod 4th gen, ipod 3rd gen, all running on my same apple id - but I have a PC not a Mac home computer - is this part of the problem?  Looking to upgrade to a Mac sometime this year...
    Thank-you for the help!

I do have the Time Capsule and spoke to Apple Care here in Sydney about it yesterday.  They told me my mail is not backed up there unless I create a special folder. I just tried ringing them again but Apple Care is closed today...
Mail is backed up automatically. If you make backups automatically, open Mail application and then, open the Time Machine app (in /Applications/Utilities). You will access to the Time Machine interface, and you will be able to see all your mails of all the backups you have, and you will be able to restore them. It means that your mails are backed up onto the Time Capsule

  • Empty Photos app, but 3.8GB in Photo Library

All photos and videos that used to be in the Photos app on my iPad mini (iOS 8.1.2, 16 GB) have been deleted; both the "Camera Roll" and "Recently Deleted" albums are empty. This was confirmed by a separate Photo Transfer App. However, in the settings under General>Usage>Manage Storage it shows that "Photos & Camera" is using 3.8GB in the Photo Library. Under General>About it shows there are 4 videos and 32 photos on the iPad mini somewhere. In iTunes, it shows there are 36 "photos" that take up 3.77GB. The videos were created with the iPad mini camera and deleted more than a month ago by direct deletion from the Photos app followed by direct deletion from the "Recently Deleted" album. Does anyone know where those 4 videos and 32 photos are located and how they can be deleted? In case it helps to know, I do not use iCloud, or the Messages and FaceTime apps. Thanks in advance.

I found the answer by trying different suggestions in other posts. The suggestion that worked in this case was to download iExplorer (available at http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/) onto my laptop and follow the instructions at http://iexplorer-support.macroplant.com/customer/portal/articles/1325738-how-to- delete-all-photos-from-an-iphone-or-ipad. It worked by just using the demo version of iExplorer. Another possible solution suggested in other posts that did not work in this case was to use iTunes to sync "photos" from an empty folder on the laptop with the iPad mini.

  • Photo events empty to other apps

Hi all, since updating to 4.3 on the iPad
(original), some (maybe half) of the events in the photo app dont show in other apps, for example, Pages and graphic apps. They show fine the actual Photo app though. The events that are empty to other apps also show a scrambled image as the event thumbnail when looking through the events.
Anyone else have this issue and/or found a fix.
    Thanks!

    Open Iphoto.
    Select all events
    Open "Batch Change"
    Set "Date" as current date
It will then set all time the same
It will then sort by event name
Sync and all events will be in alphabetized ord
got this from another thread, def fixed the problem but makes all the dates the same (forcing it to use alphabetical).  Hopefully new OS will solve this nuisance bug/feature!

    Hi Noob Søren
There are a few things that are confusing in your question.
As far as I know, you dont have to install Time Machine on this OS as it is already installed for you. You only need to connect a hard drive to your computer via firewire or usb, click on the Time Machine icon, Open Time Machine Preference in the drop down menu and select a disk: your connected hard drive.
You can of course reformat this connected device, partition it into a few volumes to organise data if you so wish.
I find it strange that your mac's hard drive is divided into two volumes... perhaps this was created through bootcamp?
You can access the configuration of your hd through Applications/Utilities/Disk Utilities.
Clicking on one of the icons on the right hand panel will bring the details of the contents of your hardDrive and volumes. From there you can decide to erase a partition, reformat etc....
If your hd contains more than one volume, and one of them is empty, you could decide to remove it. Back up all your important data before doing so.
    Hope this helps

  • How to use iphoto after yosemite 10.10.3, that have disabled it for new photo app?

My iMac did install new yosemite 10.10.3 telling me that new Photo app was "best ever" but now I can't open old iPhoto library because it was in old format of iPhoto library and the iPhoto app was now unusable because new Photo app. Can you help me!!??

and the iPhoto app was now unusable because new Photo app. Can you help me!!??
Which version of iPhoto do you have installed?  With Yosemite, MacOS X 10.10.3, you need to update iPhoto to version 9.6.1.  Only that version is fully compatible.
Apple stopped selling iPhoto, but anyone who bought iPhoto from the AppStore or updated it to a version sold at the App Store (iPhoto 9.4.5 or later) will be able to reinstall from the App Store by downloading from the Purchases tab.
If you have any version of iPhoto, that has been updated from the AppStore and is associated with your Apple ID, try to reinstall from the "Purchases" page.
Unhide iPhoto, if it is hidden on your Purchases page (See this link: Mac App Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases)
Trash the incompatible iPhoto version, but don't empty the Trash.
Reload your Purchases page at the App Store with ⌘R
    Then download from that page.
The step "Trash the incompatible iPhoto version, but don't empty the Trash."  must not be skipped. If Spotlight sees a version of iPhoto installed, the AppStore will try to update instead of reinstall, which does not work.

  • The New Photo App Not Syncing Properly

I've been pulling my hair out over the last week or so with the new Photo's in the iCloud and how the online database won't sync properly.
This is how I went about the upgrade.
I have a Mac Mini which has been for the past several years drawing down my family's photo's and video etc from all out devices using iPhoto. This has worked very nicely. I've been adding pictures from my stream into albums etc with about 200 or so. All files are stored locally of course in organized folder which is then back up on to a external drive.
After the latest update I opened the new Photo app and it started to convert my library over and started to upload all the photos, some 15000 pictures and a few hundred videos. I started to check my iPad and iPhone which is where I started to see problems, missing albums, missing photos, duplicates etc. Before anyone asks I emptied my trash in iPhoto before I updated as I had read about the new app pulling all the photos from trash in too.
After several days of stopping and starting my iPhone and iPad looked like it should with my albums and the correct amount of files. I checked the online iCloud Photos through my browser which also match, but I had all the old iPhoto months and daily libraries still showing despite me organizing my libraries not to group the photos in these old style albums.
At this point I also looked back on my Mac Mini to find that all the libraries had totally disappeared and there seemed to be a couple of thousand files missing, ie my ipad, iphone and online coun which is at something like 15,634 files and the Mac Mini Photo app was showing about 13,450. Plus, it was now saying uploading some 24,000 files but was in fact doing nothing.
At this point I decided to turn my main iMac on and see if I could get the databases to pull down from the iCloud to see if it matched. Three days later it's stuck at some 3200 files and saying it's still adding 15,000 files. I then went back on to my Mac Mini and started a fresh version of Photo and it's now stuck in the same state as the iMac saying it's adding file but nothing is changing.
    Please help.

How did you import the photos?
Are the missing photos perhaps referenced? Then they cannot upload to iCloud.
You can check with a smart album, if you have any photos in the library, that cannot upload to iCloud.

  • How to delete album in photo apps?

A friend loaded 291 pics into Photo apps of my iPad from his mac. I am using Windows Vista, I would like to delete for ever all those pics. How to do it? Than k you.

Photos that were synced from a computer can only be deleted by re-syncing. So connect your iPad to your computer's iTunes, and on the Photos tab that shows on the right-hand side of iTunes when you've selected the iPad 'device' on the left, either select a folder of your own photos to sync or just select an empty folder - as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad, when you sync your photos (or empty folder) the existing synced photos will be removed.

  • How to import the photos from the Photos tab in the Photos app in iOS 7?

I use iPhone 4 with iOS 7. I have done the following steps:
Connected my iPhone to my Mac.
    Opened iPhoto.
Clicked on my iPhone in the left sidebar.
Clicked the blue button, offering to import X photos.
I chose to delete the photos from my iPhone, when I was prompted at the end of the import.
However, I noticed the following - there were photos, that was not offered for an import. Now, on my iPhone when I open the Photos app and go to albums my Camera Roll album is empty, but when I go to Photos App -> Photos I see the photos I imported, as well as many many photos that were not imported, but are also not in the Camera Roll album (it's empty, as noted). So:
    1. How do I get the photos from Photos app -> Photos tab?
    2. How do I delete them from there when I have them.
One more thing - isn't it annoying that one has to delete the same photo from so many places -> Camera Roll Album, My Photo Stream. Photos Tab. I mean - if I take a picture by mistake, shouldn't it be possible to just delete it from one place and never see it again?

It seems I was wrong. I just had missed seeing the photos in iPhoto. Sorry for the confusion.

  • Can I delete photos app and start again? How?

Ok, I've been really daft and did not ever know that there was a photo trash can in iPhoto. So for years in iPhoto I've been deleting or rather just removing photos and not thinking much of it.
Just did my mac updates and notice I now have Photo. Open up and wow I now have 100s of photos that I thought I had deleted, some years ago.
With over 16,000 photos in total this is not a job I want to go through sifting and deleting the rubbish again.
I opened my time machine but can't work out how to go back. Is there any way of wiping photo and then starting again? It didn't ask me about importing or merging from iPhoto it seemed to have done it on its own. If the photos are still in iPhoto can I delete photo and reinstall after fixing the issue in iPhoto?
Afraid to do something and mess it up further and so looking for advice from someone who actually knows what they are doing!
    Thank you!

You can't delete the Photos app as it's part of the system.  You can continue to use iPhoto and your iPhoto library.  The iPhoto app is still in the Applications folder. If it's iPhoto 9.6.1 it will work with 10.10.3. If it's not try getting 9.6.1 from the App Store following Terence Devlin's instructions below:

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
Regarding the "deleted" photos did you systematically empty the iPhoto Trash bin each time you delete photos?

  • IPhoto app doesn't show any photos from my photos app

I just upgraded my new iPad to iOS 6 beta. Maybe that's the problem but suddenly my iPhoto app doesn't show any photos at all. All the tabs (albums, photos, events, etc) are empty.  When I open the app it says "updating photo library" briefly, but that's it. I tried rebooting, deleting the app and reinstalling it, basically everything I could.  Is this a known iOs6 bug?

Ok, I have the release and I have the issue, photos are just boxes w no pictures, is there a way to remove library and reload? The photo app works fine and all pictures are there.

  • Blurry Images in new Photos App

I have noticed a problem with the new Photos app and I am uncertain whether it is unique to my system (iMac 2013 21inch).  Photos taken in a portrait orientation do not display sharp on the screen.  They look a little blurry as if the software hasn't properly rendered the image for preview.  If you zoom in to part of the photo and then zoom out again the issue corrects itself and the image is displayed sharp.
Has anyone else had this problem and have they fixed it?

Hi, i'm struggling to find a way of merging albums in the new photos app does anyone know how to do this?
Make the sidebar visible.  View > Show Sidebar ⌥⌘S
Select one of the albums and all photos in it.
Drag the selected photos to the other album in the sidebar to merge the photos into it. Then delete the now empty original album. You can delete an album by selecting it in the Sidebar, ctrl-clicking it, then use "Delete album" from the contextual menu.

  • Photo.app crashes. Can not delete or sync photos. Stuck!

On my iPhone 3GS, iOS 4.1:
Photo.app crashes whenever i try to delete certain photos from my camera roll. It freezes and I have to exit the app with the front botton. I have the crash logs on my computer.
The iPhone appears in iTunes, however photos do not sync.
The iPhone does NOT appear in Image Capture, iPhoto, or other photo importing programs.
Now I am really stuck - ! I have no way to delete the (presumably corrupted) photos from my iPhone!
If I "Erase all content and settings" from the iPhone, it once again appears (empty) in Image Capture. However, if I then restore the iPhone from a backup, the photo roll is restored and it has the same problem. If I do not restore the iPhone, I lose all my apps, contact info, etc.
I am an Apple developer (MacOS, iOS) so I have expert skills tackling problems like this, but now I'm stumped!

I had the same problem and spent 4 hours troubleshooting with Apple Tech Support. We uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, drivers and checked every setting that had anything to do with my iPhone. As usual I was told that I need to restore my phone which is always my last option. I actually read your post and began to panic as it became clear that even after a reset I would get the same photos back when I synched and restored. Last time that I restored to new it took me 3 solid hours to tweak my phone back to the way it was. When I realized that I was basically screwed and was going to lose my photos I began to email them to myself one at a time. When I got to one picture I discovered that I had found the corrupt photo. I was not able to send it as it turned into a question mark when I tried to send to myself. I tried to delete 50 times but it froze my phone each time and wouldnt remove itself from my camera roll. I tried to select photos but each time that photo appeared in the window the app crashed and shut itself down. I had scheduled an appointment with the genious bar and figured I would call tech suoport one last time before I went through that nightmare and while I was on hold I pluged my phone into my computere and tried to delete the phote while plugged into my laptop and out of nowhere an error window popped up notifying me that my photo app experienced an error and would repair itself which within four seconds it did and the corrupt photo dissapeared. I cant tell you how relieived I was and my phone works perfectly well now. I tried to explain the results to the tech that finally answered but he didn't seem to care that much. I hope this works for you next time.

  • IOS 4.2.1 - can't sort events anymore in Photos app?

    I have an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.1, and I'm using iTunes 10.1 and iPhoto '11 (9.1) on OS X 10.6.5.
In iPhoto on my computer, I have Events sorted newest to oldest, and it showed up that way on my iPhone before the iOS 4.2.1 update. Since updating, Events will only stay sorted oldest to newest, and no matter what I try (changing sort order and back in iPhoto, syncing in between changing sort order, restarting iPhone, etc...) I can't seem to get my iPhone to reflect the sort order that shows in iPhoto.
Is anyone else experience this problem? And more importantly, has anyone found a fix for this? I don't understand why iOS 4.2.1 would break photo sorting if there were no changes made to the Photos app.

The same thing happened to me. I was on a mission yesterday to fix it, but didn't get it to work. I have 1 more thing i want to try... but haven't had a chance.
    Has anyone fixed this?
My plan is to unsync photos to remove them from my phone, delete all the photo cache information from the iPhoto Library package, empty the trash, reboot my computer AND iPhone, open iPhoto to make sure they're sorted correctly, and then sync my phone. If that doesn't fix it... i dont know, i might call Apple.
