Photo App Problem

Hello, Im using the latest vs of 10.10.3. When launch the Photo app the only pictures on it are pictures I took with mi iPhone or iPad. I thought the Pictures App was suppose to replace iPhoto and import all my pictures/albums? thanks

Hi GellieG:
I have the same problem.  None of the photos I took on my Nikon camera are in my iPhotos library after I completed the Photos App update.  The only ones I see are the ones I took on my iPad.
When I clicked on the blue box "Get Started" in the new Photos app, I get the twirling 'processing' icon - it has been over 10 hours now.  There were 500 photos from my Nikon camera that are missing from my hard drive.
I hope someone gives an answer to why this is happening and that these photos are still retrievable.

• I Photo App problems

Hi, tried the suggestions provided by TERENCE DELVIN with no postive results:
the following is what I found
1.  currently have I Photo 7.1.5 installed on 6/25/07 when I purchased my IMAC 5, original OS 10.2; upgrade to OS X LEOPARD; OS 10.5, current  OS 10.5.8
2. Unable any fine any other files in System/Preferences related to I Photo App.
3. Reloaded original I Life 06 with no new or original I Photo App.
4. Ran a diagnostic test on hard drive, all systems are OKAY.
QUESTIONS --
1.  Can I download an original I Photo App for my current operating system ?
2.  Will reloading my original Disks which came with the IMAC 5  ( OS 10.2 ; OS X LEOPARD;
OS 10.5.8 solve my problem to recreate a new or original I Photo Library ?
Your help wil be greatly appreciated,  pjrwamadeus

Sorry but I do not follow
What exactly is the problem you are trying to solve?
Changing the OS will not resolve iPhoto issues - what ever they are - most often iPhoto issues are involved with library corruption adn are resolved by rebuilding or reloading the library
you say that you currently have iPhoto '08 (version 7.1.5) and they you talk about reloading iLife '06 which includes iPhoto 6 - iPhoto 6 can not open an iPhoto '08 library
As to having folowed the suggestions provided by TD - it is helpful to explain exactly what you did because it is very common that people think they have done something but have done something else - the fact that it did not work indicates that something was not done correctly and without knowing what you actually did no one can help
As to downloading the iPhoto App - no - only the current version is available for download form the App store which requires a new OS (SL at least)
Reloading teh original disks probably will not resolve your problem (what ever it is) since most problems are not in the Application but in the data

• Photo app problems on iOS 5

I recently upgraded to iOS 5, but in the Photos application I can not see any options to edit the photo. By the way, I have a third-generation iPod touch. Thank you

I see nothing in the iOS 5 iPod Users Guide that says that editing capibility was added to the Photo app. Adding albums and some other minor changes were made though.

• Ios8 photo app problems?

I Take many photos in Raw format.  Using the IPad Camera Connection Kit i was loading them on to my iPad to preview my pictures.  no problems under ISO 7 but with ISO 8 nothing but problems.  Files now seem to be too big for the iPad as it takes forever to load the picture.  Old pictures I had saved now I cannot view because I can not swip right or left to view the next picture.  Is anyone else having simular problem?

but just doesn't have the features when I have spent hours tagging, editing and sorting all my photos in iPhoto on my iPad and  desktop.
You cannot add tags and captions in Photos iOS 8, and you cannot see them when opening a photo. But the tags you added previously are still there when you migrate the iPhoto library to Photos. You will see that, when you use the search field and enter one of your tags or a caption. This will find all photos with this tagged you then can create an album of all tagged photos for each tag. Creating albums with distinctive names is the new way of tagging. You can search for album names.
I share your sentiments entirely, and I hope Apple will provide an update to Photos soon or offer app extensions to add the missing features.

• Replacement I pod touch not working properly (photo App Problem)

Well Monday I got my replacement Ipod touch and it still seems to be having the same problems with the accelerometer the photos still freeze on a crooked angle, sometimes it will not let me zoom in or out, it even have been making duplicates of the photos and they have not been going to land scape or the vertical position a lot of them do a 360. I had it in land scape and the photos would only move vertical not side to side like it is suppose to in between photos. It has done so much that i can not count. I wish apple did not have this 3 week wait period because well i only had my new one for a week before it broke and now this one.

well i have tried everything i could think of i even tried working with the actual photos, they are correct in i photo but when they are on my Ipod they have been doing all sorts of things. This does not explain why the others photos do the same thing like freeze on angle, I noticed this because my finger is on the touch when the screen is rotated.

Hi Noob Søren
There are a few things that are confusing in your question.
As far as I know, you dont have to install Time Machine on this OS as it is already installed for you. You only need to connect a hard drive to your computer via firewire or usb, click on the Time Machine icon, Open Time Machine Preference in the drop down menu and select a disk: your connected hard drive.
You can of course reformat this connected device, partition it into a few volumes to organise data if you so wish.
I find it strange that your mac's hard drive is divided into two volumes... perhaps this was created through bootcamp?
You can access the configuration of your hd through Applications/Utilities/Disk Utilities.
Clicking on one of the icons on the right hand panel will bring the details of the contents of your hardDrive and volumes. From there you can decide to erase a partition, reformat etc....
If your hd contains more than one volume, and one of them is empty, you could decide to remove it. Back up all your important data before doing so.
Hope this helps

Could you please clarify what it is that is full, your iPad or your iCloud storage.

• IPhone 6 Plus - screen swipe problem in photo apps

I am having issues swiping at at the bottom of my screen, but strangely it only seems to be in photo editing based apps, which suggests it is is some kind of software issue. My wife also has the same issue with her iPhone 6 Plus so I know it is not just my phone.
For example, in Snapseed the filter options are all along the bottom of the screen but when I try to swipe though them I often get no response or it opens the filter I first touched and swiped on (as if I have tapped it rather than swiped). The same goes for many other photo apps that have filter options to swipe through at the bottom of the screen, including the actual Apple photo app when in edit mode.
In the case of Snapseed, I do manage to swipe the filter options along if I can just touch the area between the actual filter icons, but it is a very small space and hard to touch without hitting one of the icons.
Its not a screen sensitivity issue as I have no problem with response when tapping, also I have no problems in other types of apps, just photo editing ones. The BBC weather app require swiping through the days at the bottom of the screen and is fully responsive.
I am hoping it will be noticed and corrected in future software updates either to iOS or the individual apps, but for now it is massively frustrating.
Anyone else?

I've also experienced this same problem using snapseed.  It's really frustrating to use the app.

• Problems with the photo app

so recently, a day after updating to IOS 5, i was using my camera to take pictures at an event. i was using the camera from the lock screen and snapping with the up button. well as i was taking pics i would look at the pic, as one normally would. after i took the picture, the photo was perfectly clear no problem i was happy with my photos. about an hour later when i went in to view the pics, my camera roll was all glitchy. When i would scroll up or down there was a huge lag. looking through the albums, there were whole rows of blacked out squares where my pics should be. it looked like the pics had gotten corrupt. the biggest problem is when i clicked a picture to view it, it was super blurry. As i mentioned previously, the pictures were clear. normally you select a picture, and you have that second where the app refines the pictures. My phone/app was no longer refining the pictures so they were just blurry. so i restarted the phone hoping that would fix the problem. nope. i restored it to factory settings nothing.
some other symptoms include, not being able to attach a photo, either to messages, email, or facebook. when i click a photo and delete it, if i select another photo it will display the pic i just deleted. sometimes when i select photos the photo app will just crash and take me back to the home screen. my diagnoses is that my pictures have somehow managed to corrupt the photos app, but i am really not an expert. also if i try to back up my photos, from either iphoto or itunes there are no pictures at all to select.
i have called apple, they are giving me a replacement. but, hopefully this helps other people because i did not see anything out there related to my problem. i hope the next ios update can fix this issue, if it is one.

I apologize for not replying earlier after i went to the apple store. but i will explain what the apple rep did.
first off, i recommend trying several things before you wipe your iphone.
1.The obvious, reboot your phone by holding the home button. If that does not work then...
2. Backup your phone, then do a restore from backup. If that doesn't work then...
3. This is where it gets tricky, my dilemma is that i had taken pictures that i didn't want to lose. Keeping the pictures on my phone was the most important thing to me so i tried a couple different things. In my original post, i mentioned that i could not attach pictures to a message to email them to myself. Otherwise, I would have emailed all 100 pictures to myself, no matter how long it took. There are several Extractor programs out there but they are a bit pricey, in my opinion. The one i used was called "Photo Transfer App". You can find this app on the app store, it costs 2.99, but its an awesome little app. It is worth the money. So if you dont care about anything on your phone, if you dont mind losing all your data, eg. notes, music, or photos, then in the next step you will restore your phone as a new phone. All the above steps were my own way to try to troubleshoot the problem.
So at the apple store heres what they did...
First, I showed the girl all the problems i described above. after doing all the steps above, she was like this looks like a real problem. I told her it happened after i updated to ios 5. she said its not the ios, she has seen it on the iphone 3. but i kind of doubt that, because i have not seen anything like this in any forum. but anyways....
To save my photos she recomended i email them to myself, the Internet at the store was not that quick because
of all the devices connected so she said i should do it from home.
but the steps to email (i did not try this method):
-click photos>click the 'select photos' button (looks like a square with a right facing arrow located at the bottom left corner.)>select any photo you want to email-click share-then select email.
I had explained that i had already backed up my photos so we continued...she asked me several times are you sure you saved everything. She continued to emphasize that all my data would be lost when we restore as a new phone. i said no problem, i can do without the things i have on my phone. keep in mind when we tried to restore from backup i was having the same problems, so we decided the back up was also corrupt and was no longer useful.
To restore as a new phone. the lady said this is one of the cool things on ios 5. i'm not sure if you have to be connected to wifi, but i would think you should be connected just to be safe.
-click settings>general>reset>then click 'erase all content and settings'. this will delete everything. Make sure you select the restore as a new phone.
this has fixed the problem for me, i have not had anymore problems. The apple rep said that she thinks either something dealing with the photos app or one of my photos has corrupted the hardware.

• Photos App and Wallpaper Problems in iOS8

I'm a fan of photos of Apple because of its retina display (I'm using an iPod touch 5th Gen 32gb)... it gives my images the best quality and real sharpness of every image. But when I updated to iOS8. I found some tiny problems.. well it is tiny, but for a Multimedia artist like me.. its a very BIG DEAL.
The Photos App:
Whenever I open up some of my photography in the Photos app, it loses it's sharpness. it is not that sharp, and to sharpen it.. i had to zoom in and zoom out.  Unlike in the older versions of iOS, the photos (in any given resolution) will be automatically sharp when I slide through my images. In iOS8, it simply don't and it is really frustrating. Try it yourself to see the difference.
note: my photography is straight from my DSLR camera then I just put it in my iPod. You may suggest to resize it, yeah I do, but in iOS7 the sharpness is really good.
Changing my wallpaper:
I always make my own high quality wallpaper through my photography and my works. And my wallpaper always looked very sharp and great. I haven't changed my wallpaper since I updated to iOS8, last night I created a new wallpaper (in Photoshop) and when I changed it to my iPod... the quality is just not that good. (Problem is similar to the Photos app) The sharpness is just not there. I can't appreciate my "Retina" display anymore.
Hope you guys hear this out and fix it.
P.S. in iOS7 I do the similar stuff and it works just fine, in iOS8 it really doesn't and it is really irritating.

• Problem: native Photos app crops my images

I have a problem with the native Photos app (MobileSlideShow.app) does not display my images properly - "cropping" the top and bottom - when I view the image in portrait mode. Let me illustrate this with an example. Here is my original image, dimensions 1408x2048:
When I view the image on my iPad Air (pixel resolution 2048x1536) in landscape mode, it looks like this (actual screen capture):
The app sensibly adds black bars to either side, allowing me to see the whole image. However, when I rotate to portrait mode, it looks like this (actual screen capture):
Notice how the top and bottom squares are chopped off. Rather than let me see the whole image by padding with black space on the sides, the photo app has decided it's better to zoom in and crop the top and bottom. Note that the image itself as saved is not actually cropped, just how the photo app displays it.
I'm looking for an option or an alternative app that allows me to see the entire images uncropped.
I am using an iPad Air 9.7, under IOS 7.1- but the same problem occurred on my old iPad 2 as well.

I found a workaround for this problem. I couldn't figure out how to fix the native Photo app, but MyPics, a free app, doesn't suffer from the same defect.

• Problems with the iPhone 4S Photo App

Hi everyone. I'm having some problems with my iPhone 4S. When I plug the iPhone into my computer to upload photos, it syncs wih the computer and all the photos from my other devices (e.g. Android, camera, iPad, etc.) download onto the iPhone. The photos go into albums inside the photo app and I can't delete them. They're taking up over 70% of the storage space on my iPhone and it would really help if I could find some way to get them off. I've tried uploading the photos but the computer only recognizes the photos that are on the camera roll not the ones in the photo albums. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

ckuan, I have tried using the iTunes method explained here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236, but, like with the regular image viewing software, it failed to recognize the photos that I need to delete. I will try it again though, just in case, and thanks for answering.

• Problem importing photos into photos.app from camera and iPhone

Connect Nikon D300 or iPhone 5S to Mac.
Photos.app comes on.
Select: import photos.
-73 photos coming from Nikon in Nikon's RAW format, NEF. 3 would not import because of "error in file format or other problem...."
-Disconnect the camera.
-Reconnect the camera.
-Attempt to import remaining images.
-Last three images import but are now out of order relative to when they were shot.
About 20 photos and videos coming from iPhone. Similar problem but one that required repeating the above process several times to get them all imported.
Anyone else seeing this or have any idea why it would be a problem?
Thanks

"Import Photos at their Current Location"
"Copy photos to a new location and Import"
"Move photos to a new location and Import"
"Move photos as Digital Negative (DNG) and Import"
I believe I *should* have an option to add to the library (I've seen screenshots of it).
I'm not sure I understand your question, since I don't recall the screenshot you mention. However, I like to add photos to my library w/o creating a new folder, too.
Here's an example of how I do this with my Nikon photos:
1. I already have some photos in my library. One folder is labeled Nikon, where I put my D80 photos (all of them, so far).
2. When I hook my camera/memory card to the computer, I manually drag the images to that folder on my drive called "Nikon". This is the same folder I have imported into LR previously.
3. Start LR, Select "Import", and migrate to and select that same folder ("Nikon", in my case).
4. LR will tell you that it is not importing certain files, because they're already in the library. Click OK and LR will import the other, new files into the same "Nikon" folder (in my example).
Voila! ..no new folders in LR, just more photos.:)
Obviously, I've set LR's preferences to "Do nothing" when a memory card/camera is detected.
If I missed your point, sorry for the distraction.
regards,
jeff
