Photo appears "squished" when rotated in Organizer
I have an Olympus Styles camera, and am using the Macro mode in this camera. The original picture is landscape. When I open it in the Photoshop Elements 3.0 Organizer and rotate the photo so that it is portrait, the photo appears to be "squished" -- that is, it was a wide rectangle before rotating; after rotating it is a symetrical square and the photo is squished and distorted to fit into the square.
Viewing the squished photo on the monitor is disconcerting -- does anyone know how to fix this?
It only affects viewing on the monitor because the photo prints correctly and in the Image Size dialog box, the size and proportions are correct. I have a Toshiba Satelite computer; surprisingly, it didn't squish or distort when rotated on an HP computer that I tried it on.
It rather sounds like the display resolution on the monitor is wrong for the monitor's actual aspect ratio. Check out the real aspect ratio of the display ( e.g. 4:3 for a standard CRT ) , and make sure the display resolution matches that ( e.g. 1024x768 , 1280x1024, etc ) .
Most video drivers can be set for resolutions that are inappropriate for the actual geometry of your screen, and this sounds like the case.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption. -
Jagged still photos in FCP when rotated
I tilted JPEG photos in FCP timeline, I see how the edges are rough, like jagged. Is there a better way of tilting photos and moves w/o seeing the jagged edge?
thanksYou can also apply an edge feather to the image in FCP. Double-click it to load it into thew Viewer window, open the Crop controls and apply a setting of about 8 to 12 to Feather Edge.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 11. When in EXPERT MODE i get the following on the bottom PHOTO BIN, TOOL OPTIONS, UNDO, REDO, ROTATE, LAYOUT ORGANIZER how do i remove this?

Portrait (vertical) photos blurry in iPhoto (except when rotated landscape)
In iPhoto '09 with my Canon G11, all portrait (vertical) photos appear blurry. When these same photos are viewed in Preview or rotated to lie on their side in iPhoto however they are fine. This is a huge problem as I just got back from a long trip where I deleted all blurry vertical photos for the first few weeks thinking it was a problem with my camera (the lens has a scratch on it that I believed might be affecting focus on vertical shots) until I did some testing and realised it was iPhoto that was at fault and the photos were perfectly fine.
Is there any way to get iPhoto to display those photos correctly (I have tried various full screen and zooming modes to no avail, and there seems to be no smoothing setting in iPhoto preferences) so that I can at least look at them and use them in a slideshow, without having to open every single vertical photo separately in another editor?I've just discovered a similar issue, but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with vertical or horizontal. At least it is still happening when I turn photos sideways.
To be very clear here
1) This is not a thumbnail issue, these are the original files taken from my camera minutes ago.
2) This is not initial blurriness while the photo loads.
3) I only notice it in full screen (edit) mode because it's actually quite subtle.
4) Photos display correctly (sharp) when you zoom in a little, but return to blurry when you zoom back out.
5) Appears to be random, with one nearly identical shot being crisp and the next appears blurry, but the affect seems to be specific to particular images (e.g. it doesn't come and go randomly regardless of which pictures you happen to be looking at. If a photo is blurry, it will stay that way even if you've closed iPhoto and reopened it).
6) Photos are from a Nikon D5000
Any suggestions? This is a ridiculous hassle as the OP mentioned, and is completely unacceptable in any photo editing/browsing software. -
How can I improve the quality of a photo that appears blurry when used in iMovie but not in iPhoto?
A 320 x 240, 35 KB Jpeg file looks crisp and in focus in iPhoto. But as soon as I put it into iMovie and hit full screen, it's blurry and looks terrible. A photo taken with my Nikon D7100, a 3872 x 2582, 2.5 MB Jpeg photo translates to the big screen just fine, with perfect clarity. How can I use this former picture but increase its clarity when it's magnified in iMovie?
Apologies for opening this up again:
I rasterised and embedded the photos, liked what I saw and marked the question as answered, then I zoomed out and lo! The white jaggedy edges are back! This is despite the fact I rotated them to vertical before rasterising them.
It appears that the pixels in the rasterised image are relative to the screen, not relative to the object... so when I rotate the photo it goes back to the original hi-res photo and re-rasterises it to fit the new orientation.
Also doing this has not lowered the filesize at all... It does appear that when you rasterise an image in Illustrator, the new raster is only a veneer, the original (hi-res photo) is still lurking in the background. -

When I open an event, including flagged items, the photos appear one by one, not as thumbnails, so I can't export more than one phot at a time. How do I get iPhoto to show the thumbnails?
I've tried rebuilding the thumbnail database, but that hasn't helped.What version of iPhoto and system are you running?
Try moving the Zoom slider at the bottom of the iPhoto window all the way to the left. Does that let more than one photo display in the window?

When I send a photo directly from iPhoto using the Mail app on my iMac, the wrong photo appears on my iPad2 Mail app. However the correct photo shows if I log into gmail on the iPad2. I assume there is a glitch with my "Mail" app on the iPad2? Any suggestions for getting the correct photo to show on iPad2?
Update: I was able to have the correct photo show in my email as received on my iPad2 by changing a setting on my IMac prior to sending the photo on the email.
On the iMac, I went into iPhoto > Preferences > Email photos using > Mail (in lieu of "iPhoto"). This seems to have corrected the issue. I'm not sure why. Now the correct photo shows up when received on my iPad2. -
Although photo appears beautiful on phone screen, when reviewed in gallery, half the picture has a large line going through it. Any ideas? I went to VZN and they replaced my first new phone 3 days ago for this same issue.
I'm sorry your pictures appear different in your gallery sillyymom. I know its frustrating with viewing important images. Are you using a 3rd party picture application? do you have any apps that may be conflicting with your pictures. Have you tried to review your picture settings?

Why do I get this error message when I open Organizer in Photoshop Elements 11 "Elements Organizer has stopped working"? My only option is to Close Program so I am effectively locked out of my photo catalogue. I have tried reinstalling the program but it made no difference to the error message.

When I connect my iPod touch to my computer, I have a list of Events on my iTunes-iPod-Photos. I want to erase these Events. However, the photos are NOT on my MacBook Air-iPhoto. When I check one of the Events and then hit Apply, the photos appear on my iPod. And one last thing: When I connect the iPod and open iPhoto, iPhoto tries to load New Photos (I think), but nothing happens. Any ideas?

I don't have a signature set up, but did a little research. Someone posted that these will show up when I send an email to myself, but will not show up when sent to another person. I sent a test email to a friend to check for sure.

No photos appear in the iphoto list when trying to upload a pic to facebook. I can "share" a photo on my own wall or add one to an album through iphoto directly. I cannot figure out how to post a pic to a friends wall.

If you are uploading using a browser your photos are accessed through the media browser in the lower left ahnd corner of the puload window under media ==> photos ==> iPhoto

You probably have a filter set for the normal camera mode but not the square.
To fix, in Photo mode, touch the filter icon (three circles) and select None for the filter.
