Photo as a hyperlink

When I assign a photo as a hyperlink to link to "one of my pages" iweb changes it back to "a file" when I save the site or publish. Any ideas?
Thanks, Jon

Hey Jon
I'm not sure if this is the answer you are looking for, but here is a link to a very short instructional video on how to link an image.

  • IWeb 09 photo album loses hyperlinks to external pages

I have an album of images on my site and have hyperlinked the image caption text to open videos on external pages. This always worked fine in iWeb 08, in fact the images themselves on the main album page automatically became hyperlinked, which was cool. Upgraded to 09 and published (fortunately on a temporary site and not my live site), and now whether you click on the image or the text nothing happens. If you click on an enlarged image it just forwards to the next image.
Am using Transmit to upload, uploading to my site hosted on machighway, not mobileme.
Links work fine and open when I'm in iWeb. Tried dragging the index file to the browser and the links don't work, so obviously the problem is with iWeb 09. So my request to Apple--give us a "revert/undo" command that will take our imported docs and application back to the earlier version of software while you debug AFTER product launch. I really really hope this is fixed soon with a new version because my clients expect me to upgrade my site monthly and I'm dead in the water now until Apple fixes this.

I'm right there with you, and echo bjaquez's post. I've been frustrated by the situation. Been working (2) trials/options; create an album and try to hyperlink, and create a page and try to hyperlink. First, let me give some history.
I have about 140 photos of books to put on my site's Publications Page; plan is to hyperlink each book photo to the site where it can be purchased (external link). I reviewed the import options the Help menu provides for bringing all the photos into iWeb; one option open the Media Icon at the bottom tool bar. I found the photos in my iPhoto section, selected & imported. The issue here is it imports all photos, stacked on top of each other. When I attempt to spread them out and down the new page, iWeb will not let me scroll down the page any further, even when I've expanded the rows, columns, spacing, etc.
Option 2 was to prep the photos in iPhoto, then export to iWeb as a new page. That worked great, all photos carried over, etc.
Now, regardless of how I do it, when I open the Inspector, the Hyperlink "enable" is grayed out. It will not allow me to hyperlink the photos.
I'm definitely not a Mac guru, but pretty stoked how much I've learned this past year. I think the inability to hyperlink on an Album page makes sense in some weird way (maybe it's not weird and I've got it right, anyone can let me know) because I noticed once you click on a photo, it blows up in size so you can do a slide show or see the next photo. So, I'm thinking this would override a Hyperlink ability, or if it did Hyperlink, it would override the ability to blow up the size of the photo.
So, my next thought is to tackle this from creating a new page and dragging the photos over one by one and hyperlink.
Any feedback is helpful. Is it twisted to be frustrated, but intrigued at the same time as I feel like a sleuth trying to solve the crime

  • Photo Caption into Hyperlink

    Hi Everyone,
Earlier today, while working in an iWeb photo template page, I attempted to make one sentence of the photo caption into a hyperlink. The inspector would not respond to the highlighted text. Is it possible to link a caption or am I just missing some simple step?
    Thanks

iweb doesn't allow photo (in photo grid) and photo
    captions to be hyperlinked.
The work around is overlaying graphic shape or text
box over the caption, set opacity to 1%, then add
    hyperlink to it.
Thanks for providing me with an easy work around.

  • How do I add hyperlinks to a photo

I would like to have a page of photos that when you click on the photo it take you to another page. How can I add a hyperlink to a photo?

I know of two ways to do this.
If you use a photo page template to drop your photos into it allows you to use the slide show option but doesn't let you select a photo as a hyperlink.
In this case put a box over the photo set to 1% opacity (you can't see it) then enable the box as the hyperlink. The down side to this is that if you add photos to the page the photo under the box might move but the box doesn't. so you need to pay attention and move the hyperlinks manually if needed.
If you don't want to use slide show it's easier, just add your photos to a non photo page template, then you can enable the photo as a hyperlink.
I've done this with two photos on this page:

Look at this page for another method of linking on a photo page:

  • Hyperlinks Stopped Working on Photo Page

I'm currently using iWeb 3.0.1 and I created a web site using earlier versions. My photo page has hyperlinks under each photo, as the person's name, that take the reader to a related site. Ever since I've installed iWeb '09 the links no longer work on the published page although they're functional within iWeb itself. Now, within the inspector, I can no longer select the "enable as a hyperlink" option. Could someone be kind enough to take a look at the page and share any fixes or workarounds you can come up with?
    Thanks in Advance

That's what I was afraid of ... Oh well, I'll just have to switch over to a different application. Wonder WHY they removed that possibility? Thanks!

  • Can I use each image in a photogrid as a hyperlink?

    Hi!
I downloaded an Aperture folder onto an iWeb photos page and the photos are now in a photo grid. Can I use each individual photo as a hyperlink to another page? Ultimately what I want is to be able to click on each photo individually and have it be enlarged (via a link to another web page where I have downloaded the image a second time in large). Is there an easier way to do this? The only thing I could come up with is to do this tedious hyperlink/photo grid process, but iWeb is not letting me hyperlink with the individual photos in the photo grid.
Any ideas or ways to get around this? Thanks in advance for your time!!

If you have a lot of photos putting each one in its own page might create a large site. You might consider uploading your larger versions to your iDisk and then, as Wyodor suggested, link a small version of each photo on a regular page to the large version to be opened in a separate window. See the small *stamp image* in the middle of this demo page as an example. You can set the size of the large photo to what ever you'd like so that if will fill up the window. Getting back to your original page would be by closing the new window. Although not as elegant as a separate page for each photo it might be quicker to create.

  • Album Page versus Photo Page

I setup my site with several photo pages under album pages.
Then created another photo page and hyperlinked the photo for each album on that to album page to shows the different albums for each subject.
Problem is, the main album page I was trying to get it to look like this http://alyeska.altervista.org/albumsite/Welcome/Site2/Site2.html
Problem I have is the main album page like it shows above doesnt look like that because it is a photo page and ends up looking like this layout here
    http://alyeska.altervista.org/albumsite/Welcome/Mountains/Pages/Summer.html
When I try to drag album page with photo pages onto new album page it does not drop it over into it.
Anyone know how I can create album page so it will allow me to drop other albums pages into it like the first link above?
    Thanks
    Patrick

    Hi again Patrick,
To avoid further confusion I think I would ask him directly.
I'm guessing if you questioned him through the web site him would
be happy to tell you exactly what he did.
    good luck

  • Trouble Creating Hyperlinks

I have tried following the directions in the manual for creating links and I feel like I'm missing something. When I have typed the words for the link, I highlight and click on enable as a hyperlink. When I do, the box is checked but the drop down menu stays faded.
I didn't have much luck with having photos serve as hyperlinks either.
    Thanks for your thoughts/tips!

When I have typed the words for the link,
I highlight and click on enable as a hyperlink. When
I do, the box is checked but the drop down menu stays
    faded.
That's a new one! My experience has been that once you can check the box to 'Enable as a hyperlink' the dropdown is also available. All I've ever seen is either greyed out (unavailable) or active (box checkable, dropdown menu available).
I didn't have much luck with having photos serve as hyperlinks either.
In this case, was the check box checkable, or was 'Enable as a hyperlink' greyed out? Perhaps you were trying to create links using photos in the photo grid on a Photos page? This is not possible.

  • Customizing iweb photo albums

Hello, wanted to know if anyone has ever tried to customize the way an iweb photo album appears.
What I want to do is to enable the name of a photo as a hyperlink to an internal page of the website. In that case an iweb photo album page could work as product's page and by clicking on the name of a product it could lead to a page with more details for each particular product. If anyone has ever done something like this, I would be much obliged.

Thanx for the answer but if I do so I will then lose all the benefits of the album page, which is nice presentation, easy and fast page creation, slideshow and all other features that make photo albums interesting.
It was not the navigation menu getting huge in my concern when I originally posted my question. With the photo album page there is a kind of zoom into details option that I want to keep. I am looking for a way to add more details for each photo than the name of the photo.

  • How to get bigger versions of double-clicked photos?

double-clicking a photo opens an image which is not exactly big.
Is there any way to make them open bigger than they currently open up ?
    Thanks!

Well, Snappir, there are a few ways to try this:
there's *'fancy zoom'* and 'rollover'. If you search the forum here you'll find the threads that discuss these methods.
You could also create a blank page, put the large version of your photo on it. (Don't let this page show in the navigation menu, but title it anyway).
Then, back on the page with the small images, select your photo and in the Inspector, Hyperlink tab: enable this photo as a hyperlink and link it to 'one of my pages' and select the large photo page you just created. It's a good idea to create a text box 'back to photos' and link it back to the original photo page.
Note: this *+doesn't work+* if you've put your original photos onto an iWeb +photo page+, only if you've added them as separate elements to your first page. You could see my example here:

  • Keynote 3.0.2 (iWork '06) Files Don't Work in Keynote 4.0 (iDon'tWork '08)

I just got iWork ’08 yesterday, and tried to use a slideshow created in Keynote 3.0.2 with the new Keynote 4.0, and nothing works. The original file is an interactive slideshow of my office work portfolio, and has an initial slide with 40 project photos that are hyperlinked to smaller automatically running slideshows of the specific projects represented by those photos. Within those smaller slideshows are embedded QuickTime movies and separate audio files that often play simultaneously as soundtracks. Timing of the start and end of movies and audio files is usually critical to the sequence of slides. Once the specific project slide show is complete, it automatically returns to the opening hyperlinked slide, so another project show can be selected and played. It all works perfectly in Keynote 3.0.2.
However almost nothing works in Keynote 4.0. The initial hyperlinked photos link to the wrong projects (I have found that it seems to be the next project from whatever the selected slide in the navigator view happens to be, rather than the correct hyper linked project) movies embedded in the automatically running slideshows don’t play, audio files either don’t play or start at the wrong time. Auto transitions between slides don’t always occur so the show sometimes stops (thought the audio sometimes keeps running) and on and on. There are several hundred slides in the whole show, and I haven’t had time to inspect individual transitions, timings etc., and would hate to think of the time necessary to redo the entire show that way.
I’m by no means an expert in Keynote, so I don’t know if there is some version update conversion trick that I’m missing. I sometimes distribute this show on disk to clients who have Keynote installed on their computers, and I wouldn’t want them trying to run it with Keynote 4.0.
Can anyone shed some light on this situation?
Also in a more general sense, I wish that Apple would create a freeware Keynote Player that could be distributed with slideshows and which would play them as they were intended to be played. Kind of like Adobe Reader distributes for pdf files. None of the Keynote exporting options, including html, work for the kind of show I have created.
    Thanks very much.
P.S. I just tried the trick of setting the KN preference to “Allow Exposé, Dashboard and Others to Use the Screen”, and that fixed the playability of QuickTime movies, but audio file timings are still off, skips occur in the audio files and the hyperlinks still go to the next sequential slide rather than the proper link.

What version of the OS are you running? Also, in some cases, running the same presentation on two different computers will yield a change in carefully timed presentations. This is because audio and video aren't "locked" and will drift depending on the speed of the computer/OS. Because there were some changes made to how Keynote handles movies, this MIGHT have an effect on some of your timings there, but I don't think this would cause the widespread mislinking you're seeing.

If you're displaying on a Mac running fairly recent OS, anyone can download and install the iWork Trial. While it will eventually time out, this trial version can still run Keynote presentations just like the full version can. You just can't save any changes to the presentation.

  • Bash shell scripting

    Dear Mac Users:
I have a bash script which I copied from a bash book to learn how to use bash. Whenever I try to run it on Linux (cygwin--Windows Linux interpreter) it throws an error that something is wrong with the syntax.

I chowned a copy of bash and referenced this copy in my script but I still get the error. I also chowned the script to the user account on my Mac. Why can I not run the script?

  • Windows PC's freeze when they click on one of my webpages

I just created my website and all pages seem to be fine except one. Several Windows users say that their computers freeze up when accessing this page. • Hyperlinks no longer work after I view photos

I have created a website, and for the particular page I used the preset photo gallery option. I created a text hyperlink at the bottom of the page and it works as I want it to except after I click on any photo in the album. Once I click on the photo, I click on "Back to Album" and go to test the link. There is no colour change, no change of my cursor, or any other change that is supposed to happen regarding a hyperlink. The hyperlinks at the top of the page, linking to the other pages of the website, work without a hitch. Also, the hyperlink is a "Back to top" type of link, it links back to the same page. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Photo Gallery hyperlinks to "One of my Pages"  not working

I manage a website for our lab at the University of Notre Dame. We have used one of the Photos pages to include pictures of all our personnel. The pictures have captions with the person's name. The names were hyperlinked to more information about that person. Some of these links were to pages on the same site and some were to external sites. The site was originally created using iWeb '08, but I now update it on a new computer with iWeb '09. After publishing it again, none of the hyperlinks on this page work. The navigation bar and links on other pages seem to be fine though. Is there a way to resolve the problem without reverting to iWeb '08?

I'm having the same problem. Can you give me an idea of how this is possible using AJAX or point me at a tutorial?
for every iweb photos page iweb generates an rss.xml file with it, the captions are kept in the rss.xml .
so you can use ajax method to read the rss.xml and figure out what need to be manipulated.
there is no tutorial of any kind for iweb ajax widgets, I have not seen any one yet to crack an iweb widgets (this forum or elsewhere); so you are on your own.
that said you can hyperlink photos page captions and thumbnails with simple javascript (simple mapping lookup), but you still need to know javascript and iweb widgets.
here is my simple javascript sample: http://temp.cyclosaurus.com/NoThumbnails/Photos.html
thumbnails and captions are hyperlinked to apple, ggogle and yahoo.
code is linked to the sample, you'll have to adapt it to your own needs.
