Photo attachments to Gmail

I had this thing happen to me. I received an Email with four photos attached. The mail, originally, just displayed the four icons that I could tap to download the photos. I downloaded two and they displayed fine in the mail message and I could tap on them to save to the photo album. When I download the third and the fourth photo these were not displayed in the mail message but a line of text.jpg (untapable) appeared as text for each of the additional photos. I found this strange. Is this because of limited memory? Each of the photos was about 4-5 MB.
What is the best way to handle such photo attachments so that you do not loose any of the photos into cyberspace?

Hi Paisinho!
There should not be a memory problem as of course the photo app works fine!
Try downloading these images on a computer, and if you cannot access them, then these attachments, have been lost into the 'cyberspace', contact google for information if this happens.
If they do download on a computer, then there may be some issue with compatibility. (Although you say the text ends in .jpg which should be fine). First try going to gmail.com on your iPad. Either use the Basic HTML version or the iPad specific version. See if that works and get back to me.
Hope this helps.

  • Can't open photo attachments from Gmail through Safari - Ipad2 ios7.1

    I have an ipad2, running ios7.1
If I try to open a photo attachment from www.gmail.com (in Safari, not Mail app) it causes my ipad to hang.
Here's what happens for a 2mb test jpg I just sent myself:
    1. Open email in Safari
    2. Click on the thumbnail or photo.jpg hyperlink at bottom of message
    3. A new tab opens in sarari, pointing to mail-attachment.googleusecontent.com
    4. The progress bar moves between 30 to 70 % of the way across and then hangs. It never fully loads
    5. The ipad is no longer responsive, you can't close safari
    6. All other apps hang or become super slow
This is very frustrating and I regret updating to the latest ios. I've tried restarting and cleaning my cache/history etc and it makes no difference to the problem.
    What's the fix please? Thanks

Thanks, but doesn't really help the situation, which is that safari can't open my pictures for some reason. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

  • Photo attachments in gmail - Can I see when the photo was created?

    Hi,
just a quick query; I received a photo in Gmail earlier and would like to know when the photo was created, if I download it from Gmail and chose 'get info' it states the device used to capture it etc(iphone5) but says it was created at the download point. My question is, is there anyway to find the original date using a third party program?
    regards

I got the last ~10 logins on the computer, but not the last time a specific user was logged in.

  • Sending photo attachments from Mail to Gmail

I've been sending photo attachments via Mail for years and haven't had trouble until recently. Now I'm getting complaints from Gmail users that the attachments come through as embedded files. I guess on the Gmail end, they don't see it listed out as an attachment, but as part of the mail body. What's going on here?
I attach files same as I always have - by clicking on "attach", then selecting the file(s) I want to attach. I always leave "send windows friendly attachments" selected (although in an experiment, I tried sending it without clicking that, and the images came over all stretched out and shrunken in a very strange way).
I can't think of what would be happening, but I'm assuming it's something in either the way Mail or Gmail is treating the photos - and I'd like to have them come through as attachments, rather than embed files (I'm a photographer and have heard from some of my clients that the embed is a pain - they have to "save as" right click on each image rather than just select "save attachments" or something).
    Any ideas??

Send to these recipients using only Plain Text, and all should be well. To test choose a message you previously sent from the Sent mailbox, open, click on Message in the menubar, choose Send Again, then click on Format and choose Make Plain Text.
Rich Text as received by those using Outlook or Outlook Express, as two examples, will see the RTF as HTML, and the attachments will appear embedded -- although they are not.

  • HT4356 Why can I not print attachments from gmail on my ipad mini, it will print photos and anything from safari

Why can I not print attachments from gmail on my ipad mini, it will print photos or anything from safari?

For Gmail attachments, if they are PDF files (as well as many other formats) when you are viewing them on the iPad in Safari there is an option to "Open in iBooks" just below the tab you have open (at the top of the page).
From iBooks you can print them to a wireless printer easily.
    Hope this helps.

  • I am able to send emails containing text but not photo attachments. Any ideas?

I am able to send text emails but not photo attachments. When attempting to send photos direct from Photos I receive an error message and eventually a notice to say that transmission failed. Any ideas please?

Its like many issues, things just happen some times, but the more info you can provide will maybe help isolate the issue. You still haven't answered my other question about whether you can log into gmail directly from their site and send attachments. Even google servers go down sometimes. Sometimes an attachment is too large to be sent. Sometimes an internet provider has restrictions or limitations. Try other services, other connections, other photos that you may have sent in the past. All of this would help.

  • I just noticed that I can no longer select photos out of my finder that are located in my Aperture/Iphoto Library.  I used to be able to attach photos to my gmail out of the aperture library in the finder and for some reason, no longer can.

I just noticed that I can no longer select photos out of my finder that are located in my Aperture/Iphoto Library.  I used to be able to attach photos to my gmail out of the aperture library in the finder and for some reason, no longer can.
I can't access these images except to go into the applications.
Also, I'd like to import my iphoto library into aperture, and move aperture library to an external drive.  I tried the import first, but there wasn't enough space.  Then I tried copying over the aperture library onto the external drive but it failed bc it said file was in use.
As it is, I only have 50gb left on my imac, and the aperture library is 150gb.  Also, I have over 10k images in both libraries combined and there are tons of duplicates that need to be sorted, and hopefully not messed up because I've organized most of them.
So in short, I need to know how to do the following:
-select photos in finder in aperture/iphoto libraries
-move aperture library to live on external drive
-import iphoto library into aperture library
    -eliminate dups but maintain organization
-moving forward i need a better workflow so that I import images from camera, and can organize right away into albums rather than creating projects by default and then creating albums so essentially the photos are in 2 different places, even tho they are referenced
    -live happily ever after
Thanks in advance for any support you can offer!!

If you're using apps like iPhoto or Aperture then they replace the Finder for managing your photos. The point is that you use the (many) options available via these apps for the things you want and need to do with the Photos.
So, simply, you don't select the photos in the Finder. I'll append the supported ways to do this - which are faster and will yield the current version of your Photos - to the end of this post.
-move aperture library to live on external drive
Managed or Referenced Library? Managed -
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit Aperture
    2. Copy the Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching Aperture. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Referenced -  relocate your Masters first.
These issues are covered in the Manual and on this forum hundreds of times.
-import iphoto library into aperture library
FIle -> Import -> iPhoto Library? Have you done this already? If so are you trying to move the Masters to Aperture from an  iPhoto Library? Or Consolidate them?
-moving forward i need a better workflow so that I import images from camera, and can organize right away into albums rather than creating projects by default and then creating albums so essentially the photos are in 2 different places, even tho they are referenced
You can't. Every photo is in a Project.  They’re the basic building blocks of the Library.
You might want to spend a little time with the manual or the video tutorials. I'm not sure you've grasped the app  you've purchased.
The following is written for iPhoto, but about 97% works for Aperture too.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto/ APerture:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics. This is what you use to attach your shot to your GMail
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto/ Aperture.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto/ Aperture not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser

  • I can't get video attachments in gmail to play on my macbook pro.  2 month old macbook pro running lion. says format not supported

I can't get video attachments in gmail to play on my macbook pro.  Says format not supported.

What kind of video?  There are dozens of formats, some don't play on a Mac unless you have the right plug-ins for Quicktime.  There are some things you should download to help you out.
    http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm
    http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html
These should cover EVERYTHING you'd ever encounter (though maybe not).  Frankly, if it's not H.264 or w4v (or both), it doesn't belong on your mac.

  • Saving photo attachments in mail.app

Can anyone please tell me if there is a simple way to save multiple photo attachments from several emails to one folder in one go?
I am hoping that I don't have to go to each individual email & save

Not wanting to start another topic, is anyone else having issues with the new Lion Mail?
First: is there any way to turn off the jps in the image and just send them as a file? I hate remembering to make sure the cursor is set to the best location for the inserted images
The problem I see is sending more than one file. Im not so sure the second plus file is attached.
I know for sure the image of the scond file is normally half gone.
Thanks for any insight and help.

  • Fun? with Photo Attachments in Mail

Hello. I have always wondered just how photo attachments arrived at a Windows user computer.
After reading an article in the April 2009 Macworld (Mac911), I decided to try a few tests as follows:
(I would really appreciate any comments for other suggestions--I imagine a lot of Mac users are are also concerned about it).
1--I first tried the one recommended in the article by making a Zip file as follows:
I dragged a picture from iPhoto to my Desktop. I then went into FILE in the Finder and clicked on COMPRESS.
I then composed a message in Mail and using the attach feature at the top of the message, attached the photo to the message and sent it to the Windows user.
He indicated it did not work that well, too much 'fiddling' to get it useable.
2--I then went into iPhoto, highlighted a photo, clicked on the email function in iPhoto and sent it off.
Windows guy says still not that good.
3--I then tried simply dragging a photo first from iPhoto to the desktop, then dragged it into a message I had composed on Mail and sent it. That way didnt seem good for him either.
4--**This is the one that he seemed happy with:
I dragged the photo from iPhoto on to my desktop. I then composed an email message in Mail and using the 'attach' feature in Mail, attached the photo from the desktop into my Mail message.
He indicated that was the one he preferred by a long shot.
However, it is a bit of a complicated procedure on my end---any suggestions to make this easier?

From iPhoto, click to send as before. But prior to sending, click on Format in the menubar of Mail, and select Make Plain Text. In addition, it would be best to set iPhoto NOT to add the Titles or Descriptions beneath the photo. Have the photo or photos be the last thing in the message -- enter no text following any photo.
Test this with you friend. Not all those things will be necessary all the time, but safest anyway. If the recipient were, for example, using Thunderbird you probably wouldn't have to do any of them, but for those using Outlook or Outlook Express all of those steps would be best.

  • Can not download attachments in gmail

I'm having problems downloading attachments in gmail.  Any ideas?

I'll be honest, give up.  As many of us have found, Gmail on iPads is truly not compatible. Nor is Yahoo for that fact. Apple wants you to use their Apple Mail.
I have a new iPad 3 and testing it against an Android tablet. I have no issues on an Android tablet.  My issue is attaching things in Gmail.  For instance, only the pics folders will open, but only pic folders contained in iPhoto or those I've taken with the iPad.  I've got other files stored on my iPad with pics, and don't get the option to attach anything in them.

  • When sending attachments in Gmail in FF, my internet connection breaks

When I try to send an attachment of any type in gmail in Firefox as a browser the attempt stalls, fails and then my internet connection breaks. I've googled this and no one else seems to have this issue. It seems local to my desktop and I've reinstalled FF and tried the beta for 4.0 and it still happens without fail.
It doesn't matter what kind of attachment or size, this happens when I try to send attachments in Gmail.

For what it's worth, I've seen this exact problem from Internet Explorer 8:
    <br><br>
    1. start a new email at the Gmail site in the web browser<br>
    2. click "attach a file"<br>
    3. select a file in the file dialog box & click OK<br>
    4. network connection immediately drops. (I've been pinging Google in the background and the ping gets interrupted exactly when I click OK."<br>
    5. Network connection is down until I go through the Windows 7 "repair network connection" procedure. Apparently the network gateway is lost.<br>
When this happened, I tried attaching the same file to an email using a *different* Gmail account, and it worked. <br><br>
I think this is either a problem with the ISP (Earthlink / Timewarner) or Google. I don't think IE or Firefox is causing the problem.
