Photo book format change

I made a hardcover book for my daughters' teacher and I want to make the same book as a softcover for my girls. Is there an easy way to copy everything over to a new book?

Hello,
if it is an "ePub" file you can import it to iTunes using the "File" menu in iTunes
"File -> Add to Library"
Then connect an iPod or iPad and sync the book. Once your mobile device is connected to your mac, select it in the "Devices" section of the iTunes Library anc click the "Books" tab like shown above. That will sync your new book to your mobile device.
To read it on your mac you may wish to install "calibre", a free ePub Reader

Photo book size change

I am using Iphoto 11 to create a large photo book. I have come to the end of my project, but need to make a larger book (XL). I seem to be unable to change the size by using the "change theme" option. Any advice is welcome!

I'm obviously not sure what you are doing but all you have to do is select the book and click on themes and select teh new size - it is best to duplicae the book first - select it a depress command - D

My company prints out each year a few hundred mini-day planners that we then give to our customers, friends, staff etc. They are very popular and are priced around $3.50 for a nice PlasticLeather bound with foil edges book that looks very professional and fits nicely in a shirt pocket.
We also get a small foil stamp on the front with anything we want (though we choose our company logo instead of text.).
The setup charge was around $100, only had it pay it once ever, not once per year.
I know that this has got to be a very profitable business for our supplier.
AND
I would love to see Apple do some variant of this, even if only the cover and a few pages were changeable, it would be awesome to be able to create these from Iphoto.
Unlike the consumer products there would not be millions of sales from individuals, but companies order these by the hundreds to give out as a cheap and acceptable holiday gift.
Please think about it.

I wish that on the support page they would have a feedback/suggestion section, but they don't. So I'm going with this.

Photo book - can't edit pages

I recently upgraded to iphoto '11 so that I could make use of the photo book feature. I can create a photo book with no problems, but once it's created, I can't click on any photos within the photo book to change them around, I can't resize the photos or zoom in and out. I can't even add text to the pages. It's as though when I'm clicking the page it doesn't recognise that I'm clicking it. Does anybody know what has happened and how to resolve the issue?

Try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos, create a book and check to see if the same problem persists. If it doesn't then your current library is the culprit.
In that case make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

HT1040 trying to make an ibook and have 800 photos, want format of 8 photos/page, but default is not that- "create" the initial book from iphoto "album" it loads less than 800 pics and then when i change layout i have blanks.

if i clear the book so that it is all blanks and then try to load in the pictures i have it loses the chronology of the pictures that i had established in the album.
is there a way to import photos into an ibook template and keep the original order of the photos without having to do them one at a time?
also, is there a way to insert a photo rather than just dragging it? i have tried the cut and paste funciton but it doesn't seem to work, the target site doesn't seem to register with iphoto.

Photos are added to book in chronological order. So if you want to add them to a book in the order you have placed them manually in an album do the following:
1 - select all the photos in the album.
2 - use the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Date menu option as shown here. Select any date and add 1 minute between photos.
3 - select just one photo from the album and create a book from it.
4 - in the book click on the Options button ➙ Book Settings button and make sure the checkbox for Auto-layout pages is unchecked.
5 - drag the album with your book photos onto the book icon and they will be imported into the Photos tray of the book in your pre-determined order but not into the pages themselves.

How can I undo a theme change of a photo book?

I've just spent 5 hours picking photos for my nice photo book for a friend. I was finished, looked at the result and thought, let's save it and try another theme.
Boo! There is no save function in iPhoto!
I try anyways, there is a warning, I change the theme... and:
Boo! All the photos are back randomly and all my handpicking is lost!
Great, I think, I can go back and revert with Undo:
BOO! No undo for theme change!
Is there really no way you can go back and/or save a book before you make changes? Seriously?
Or what am I missing?

Well the obvious route would have been to duplicate the project and then experiment on the duplicate - you know like you back up before trying things. Boo.
Other than that, restore from your back up.

I have been working on a book and have 418 photos already in my book. All of a sudden I cannot access the book format to see the multiple view, spread view, or single view. I can no longer see my book although I still see the collection with 418 photos

All of a sudden I cannot access the book module and clicking on the multiple view, spread view, or single view does not take me back to the book I have been working on. I can no longer see my book although I still see the collection with 418 photos under collections. What I do see is a blank template for a new book and I can't find the unfinished book I started with 418 photos. It is like the new empty template is somehow covering it up. How do I get back to the book I have been working on?

Is it possible you mistakenly clicked on a [Clear Layout] button?
But a great hint is- Always click on the [Create a Saved Book] button, early in your new book design.
Then you have a permanent link to the book in the Collections panel. (In addition to the standard collection of your selected images)
Note: a Book Collection shows an icon that looks like a book.
Every time you come back to edit the book, open the Book Module by clicking on the white arrow that appears on the end of your Book Collection title. (The title as saved)
Re-opening a book without using the "Saved Book" option can have unpredictable results.
A "Book" Collection is like a "Smart Collection" because anything you do to the book design, change pages, change images, etc, is automatically updated in the Saved Book collection.

Why can't I change an iPhoto '11 (9.4.2) photo book layout without the page going blank?

When working on a photo book, I can initially drag and drop photos into the predetermined photobook layout designs without any problems. But when I want to change one of the pages from the iPhoto predetermined layout (e.g. from a 2 photo layout to a 4 photo layout) the page will go blank (by that I mean it will only have the background design) and will no longer allow me to add photos to the page, or choose a text only layout, or any layout other than a blank background design. I can delete the page which won't let me add photos anymore, and then add a new page which will, but the page layout is again a predetermined layout, which I want to change (e.g. a 2 photo layout, when I want a 4 photo layout).
As stated in the question, I'm running iPhoto '11 version 9.4.2, updated via the App Store in November 2012. I'm running the program on a 2011 iMac, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3, with OSX (10.8.2).
Please help.

Sound like you're trying to drag a photo to a folder which will automatically create a new album in that folder titled "Untitled". Make sure it's an album and not a folder you're trying to drag to.

I I made a PDF fie to preview, but am still apprehensive to actually order the book, as I have ordered some prints of photos after I thought i had them cropped correctly and prints returned with heads, half of bodies have a book formatted and ready to buy

I have formatted a photo book, but am apprehensive to push the "buy" button as I have ordered prints that I thought were cropped correctly, and they returned with heads cut off and half of bodies mising. I have put the book on a PDF file as instucted, please reassure me that if everything looks right there, that is the way the book will look??

If the PDF looks good then the printed copy should be OK. The only problem you might run into is the color rendering. As long as none of your photos use the sRGB profile and not the Adobe RGB color profile the color should be fine.
On those prints that were cropped incorrectly: did you copy them to the print size ordered before uploading for printing? If not then they will be cropped by the printing equipment and you'll lose part of the top and bottom of the print (for landscape prints).

Book module of lightroom changed book format

I am having an issue with the book module of lightroom (using it for blurb)
I made a book chosing the large landscape format.
I completed it all and only when exporting to blurb, surprised by the low price,
I had noticed that it had become a "standard format".
I never had changed the format.
So I made a copy of the book, changed the format.
And in order to do that I confirmed that I would accept changes in layout.
Lightroom did not to a bad job,but
1) some pictures had disappeared
2) some pages templates were not available in large book format (e.g. the 4x3 multiple page)
I started correcting the book again and half way I noticed that lightroom HAD CHANGED AGAIN THE FORMAT
and brought it back to standard format, WITHOUT ASKING FOR CONFIRMATION.
I am now starting again.
Not nice to have to redo again considerable work on a 160 pages book, on a deadline.
Definitely there is something to be fixed there.
If anyone had experienced anything like this, please let me know
I will try to reformat the book again now, hoping that it will work.
Otherwise I have really no idea about what to do.

Are you using Lr 4.3? If not, upgrade to Lr 4.3. There were issues with the Book Module in Lr 4.1.
For Lr 4.xx users the upgrade to Lr 4.3 is free of charge.
Download it from Adobe's website, install it, and - when asked - enter your serial #.

You can change the Print Store location from iTaly to Belium in iPhoto's Advanced preference pane:
Then try to order. HOWEVER, you still may not be able to order. Over here in the States the shipping address must be in the same country as the billing address of the credit card used. It may be the same way over in Europe.

Is it possible to retrieve photo book after I accidentally changed theme?

I created a photo book with all the pictures and description. I ordered it. Then I wanted to order another one but in a different size. So I supposed that it was all going be saved and clicked on the change theme button where I can choose from the different sizes. Unfortunately I lost all the type editing. Now I don't remember which types and colours I used on the individual pages.Anyone knows if its possible to retrieve the book from my apple account? If you need to book in a different size you need to reformat it. The book, that was sent to apple was a PDF, and that cannot be used by Apple to create the smaller sized book.
So I supposed that it was all going be saved and clicked on the change theme button where I can choose from the different sizes. Unfortunately I lost all the type editing.
If your Time Machine backup goes back far enough in time, you could try to restore the iPhoto library from before you changed the book theme and then try to find out what the colours and fonts have been.
