Photo book help
I am trying to compose a photo book for a friend who is studying abroad. I wanted it to be ready for when she gets back, as it is a surprise. I am taking photos she has been posting on facebook and was going to use iphoto to make a photobook but, it is saying the photos are too low of quality. I realize this is because I am retrieving them from a website, but I wanted to know if there was any way to fix this. I don't want to spend the money on a photobook, with low quality pictures. Thanks!
There is no way to fix this with photos from Facebook. They compress the files too heavily to be of any use. You need the original files, I'm afraid.

Text disappears when previewing/ordering photo books - help!
I've made a photo book in iPhoto but when I try to preview it or convert to a pdf it gives me an error message and then creates the book without any text. I'm afraid to order it in case the problem appears in the final edition - the text is very important. Any ideas how to solve the problem?
I've ordered several photo books in the past and never had this problem.Sorry to string out this thread but I have the answer. Apple provided me this information and it works. hope it helps your problem, too:
1) Open iPhoto.
2) Select the book from the Source list on the left.
3) Choose Print from the File menu.
4) Click the Preview button on the bottom left. This will create a portable document format (PDF) file and display the file using the Preview application.
5) Verify that the text is displayed.
6) If the text is displayed correctly, and if you are satisfied with the book, close the PDF file, return to iPhoto, and click the Buy Book button. You may skip the rest of these steps.
7) If the text is not displayed, close the PDF file and quit iPhoto.
8) While in the Finder, choose Home from the Go menu. Open the Library folder, then open the Preferences folder. Locate the file called "com.apple.iphoto.plist" and drag it to the desktop. This will reset the iPhoto preferences to the default settings.
(Please note that if the Library is located on a separate partition or hard disk, you may need to point iPhoto to the Library location when you reopen iPhoto. You can do this by holding Option while opening iPhoto.)
9) Reopen iPhoto and preview the book using steps 2 through 5 above. If you are satisfied with the book, close the PDF file, return to iPhoto, and click the Buy Book button. Then drag com.apple.iphoto.plist to the trash, as it may have been causing the issue. -
I would like to use some different clip art other than what appears in the insert object thumbnails. I am creating a photo book in the editor window. Here's the stats:
Select a picture in organizer
create tab Select photo book
launches editor
select a cover photo
insert object
(here is where I want my new clip art to appear) in the content pane on the right

Barry in St. LouisI have an older version of Elements, and in that the downloader always runs in the background when it is enabled via preferences. I found this to be annoying and, therefore, disabled this feature.
My workflow is:
I use a card reader to import pictures from camera card to an empty folder on the desktop
Next, I burn a CD before I do anything else. This is my "film" - can always go back to retrieve an accidentally deleted file.
Then, I delete the obviously poor pictures from the desktop folder - motion, unflattering pose, etc.
Finally, I manually import the "keepers" into organizer, tag them, etc.
You could adapt this scheme to import into the organizer only the pictures which meet the test for what you call "my picture collection", i.e. those pictures which have been enhanced .
In the older version of Elements, the organizer allows one to make a collection. I believe that it called something else in PEv.7, but it is still there. The advantage of this is that you can assemble a group of photos for a particular purpose, which you do. It also allows you to define the order of the photos in the collection by dragging them into position. Suggest that you consult the help file re same. -

I just got an iPad and my husband and I both have iPhones and my aunt has a Mac computer and she created some awesome photo books and I want to make some books can u please tell me how to get this iPhoto! Is it an app or what?
iPhoto is a part of the iLife suite that comes on all new Macs and can be purchased for Macs in the App Store - it is not an iPhone app nor is it currently an iPad App
So add a Mac to your iPhones and iPad - you will love it just as much

I have had my iphoto crash twice whilst nearing the end of making a photo book. Are these books lost and do I have to start again? ): I cant find the folder in iphoto on the time capsule. Folder from which the book was being made is now empty? help please Using IMAC OSx

it has been a while since we have last spoke, I would like to let you know, I am still working on getting used to the switch from windows to a Mac/Apple system. I do have a new question for you, I did purchase In Design CS5.5 through journeyed.com through Cuyahoga Community College of which I attend as a student, is there a way to purchase an online book through iTunes to learn that as well? Also, you know me, the struggling student, I would also, when and if the book can be purchased through the iTunes, would need to know if you do know of a much easier book for struggling students like myself and at a reasonable price as well for the In Design CS5.5 program. Our campus bookstore had closed early, and, so did the colleges library and our local library here where I do live, so, I cannot go to either place to purchase a book or to take out a book, plus cash funds are low at this moment as well but, I do have money left on the iTunes account to use, if it can be used. So, can it be used, the iTunes money, towards finding a low priced online book? I am in great need of assistance as I have a project due for my one course for this Tuesday, September 4, 2012.

i have a mac osX 10.5.8 and i could always make photo books with iphoto , now all of a sudden i cant because i have iphoto version 7.1.5 i have tried countless updates and nothing is working ? help ?
Books are no longer supported with iPhoto '08 (a roughly six yeal old product) - you can purchase an iLife '09 DVD from someplace like Amazon or eBay and install it - iPhoto '09 is still supported this year

After spending MANY hours creating a nearly 100 page photo book of our wedding, we were very upset to discover that the app crashes every time we try to actually order the book. Using an iPad 2. App will work right up to entering the cvs code on my credit card and then crash. You would think apple would be all over a problem that prevents users from spending over $100 to order an album. Been waiting to hear something / anything that will help.

I thought, you want to rescue the work you invested into your wedding album? Confirming a problem with iPhoto will not rescue your book.
But iPhoto is just one component in a complex system - all parts have to work properly - the network, Apple's Print Products Store in your country (you are not in Australia, are you?), the settings and presets on your ipad, the system files, iPhoto, and the photos you are using.
I am quite confident in saying that there is not a data corruption issue with any of the photos. They are all photos of the same format taken from the same camera by the photographers at our wedding. Those photos were copied to my computer off of the DVDs and synced to my iPad.
And during this sync transmission errors may have occured. Browsing alone will not necessarily show you any data corruption because previews may be used and not the original image files. Only editing will use the originals.
I can't see the issue being an incomplete installation of iPhoto, as we have also created a couple scrapbooks and stuff just to play with, and also view over airplay. I can't see how an incomplete installation would allow all the functions of the app to work
The installation includes many ressource files, and one of these ressources may have been transferred incompletely. All may work properly, until you need the ressources required for assembling your book.
Then reinstalling can fix it.

I prefer systematic troubleshooting to narrow down the problem to isolate the issue - why are you asking for our help, if you already have done so?
resign to the (what seems to be) fact that there is a problem with the app?
That is up to you, to decide when the evidence is conclusive - it is your book that you are giving up.
If you are convinced, that it is a bug in iPhoto, nothing will save your book but an iPhoto update with a bug fix. Then the only option will be to file a bug report, so the developers are notified. Posting here in a user forum or talking to Apple Geniusses will not ensure that:

Can anyone help with the Photo Book process? I have tried at least a dozen times and the Photo Book always fails at the very last stage of the process. I ordered Buy Book, it assembles the book and files are transferred until the very last moment... it says " An error occurred while uoloading one of your files. Please check your network connection and click Retry to resend your files." It fails every time, any advice? My server is TalkTalk which may explain everything !! ?? Help.
Boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and order from there.
Also make a PDF file of your book according to this Apple Document, iPhoto '11: Preview a book, card, or calendar before you order or print it, before you order to check for errors. Keep that file to compare with the printed copy when it arrives.

Help - Photos ruined my photo book project
I've been working on a project in iPhoto to create a photo book of my trip to Ireland last year. Had spent about 6 hours on this, and was about 2/3 of the way through. Got a notice today to download Photos, so I did so. However, when I opened the project in Photos, it totally rearranged all my photos, to the point that all I can do with the existing project is to start from scratch.
I am running Time Machine. Is there any way that I can restore the prior version of the project, and then be able to continue working on it in Photos without Photos rearranging all the photos?

When I preview my final photo book it doesn't seem like the photo from the dust jacket is on the hardback cover as well but I'm not sure. There is nothing else I can do within the program's pages so how can I be sure? I need to order it ASAP, help please!
When I preview my book - Dust Jacket Spread Cover Design- I see the following first two pages in the preview:
one large spread for the dust jacket
and one large spread for the hard cover.
Is that different for you?

HT204364 Help on Ordering Photo Book
I submitted a 62 page photo book for publication and after paying and, thereafter, gathering done, the order seems to get stuck in download at about the 1/2 way mark (according to Apple's completion bar graph; I know not necessarily accurate). Left it going 2x overnight and still stuck in the morning. Checked for updates to software. Turned compueter off and tried again. My internet speed is good. I have ordered photo books in past and orders were completed without a problem. Thoughts?
By the way, it seems ridiculous that I can't ask Apple these questions for free when I am spending money to purchase products from them (I have three books for holidays lined up). Is there a way when the problem is a purchase problem and not a computer problem?Here are a some other tricks that helped users get their books ordered. Maybe one will work for you:

Just got off the phone with apple support. If the photo book completes the assembly process but fails during the upload process the problem is in their overloaded servers.They just started a free shipping promotion for the holidays which has increased the traffic dramatically. I bought a calendar a week ago and it went right through. I'm going to try again during less peak times.

Here's a fix that worked for some users:
Make sure this checkbox is checked in the System/Sharing preference pane:
If it is, uncheck it and then recheck and try ordering again.
And lastly:
Quit iPhoto.
From the Finder menu bar, choose Go > Utilities to access your Utilities folder (or press Shift-Command-U).
In your Utilities folder, open Keychain Access.
Find the "NetServices" entry in your Keychain Access window.
Select the "NetServices" entry and press the delete key.
Reopen iPhoto and attempt to place your order again.
You should be prompted to enter your account information if you deleted the Keychain entry successfully.
After entering your account information, you should be able to complete your order.
