Photo Book I've created disappears after I close the iPhoto program.

Having spent hours creating a book, I close the program to return later only to discover later that nothing of my previous work has been saved.
I have rebuilt the photo database and tested that it will save and it has only retained half of my work. All the text has been lost and after the third day of re-creating the same book I am getting very discouraged - say the least.
I have produced beautiful books in the past, but that was with iPhoto 08. What else can I do?

You don't have to update, it's just recommending that you do.
On 10.7.5 you can run up to iPhoto 9.4.3 and those updates are available.

  • Why do my newly imported photos "disappear" after I close the iphoto library?

I connect my camera or iphone and iphoto automatically opens.  I click on import photos.  Photos are imported successfuly.  I can then crop, rotate, enhance each photo.  I then close my iphoto.  When I re-open iphoto my previously important photos are not there.  If I reconnect my camera it will identify the photos that I just imported as new photo and will import them again.  But as soon as I close iphoto they are not saved.  To make this even more complecated my husbands profile allows him to upload photos.  Why is this happening?

You're right the adjustments and changes are applied to the library as they are made.
Is this something that just started happening or is this a new Aperture installation?
If it has just started happening and nothing else has changed on your system then you should start with the Aperture 3:Troubleshooting Basics. I'd specifically look at doing a permission repair and library rebuild.
If this is a new installation where is your Aperture library located? Internal or external disk? If it is external make sure the disk is formatted as OS X Extended.
In either case post back with the specifics of your system.

the photos that I add to address book will only be there for a few seconds after I close the edit button. Either they go away completely or they are very small portion of the actual photo

Frank, thanks for your note.  I wrote "COMPLETED" because I had gone to a lot of effort to get the content of the book precisely as I wanted it. I would fully expect to see my level of effort and care matched by functional competence in Aperture 3 to render the book the way I created it.  Too much to ask?
And yes, I upgraded the Aperture 2 Library first.  [Not ALL my tens of 000s of pix, because I use Lightroom selectively for photo editing. But Yes to the Aperture 2 Library.]  That step took a number of minutes, but seemed to work fine (no error messages of any kind).
Then I opened the existing book project in Aperture 3, which followed some "magic-box" process that took a minute or so.  As I said, when that step was done, by all appearances the book was ready to submit for printing - until I examined the photos a little more closely.  You did see the blurry example I included, didn't you? That is what each and every photo looks like.
Text-box content appears to have been rendered pertectly, for the record (including captions).
So, ... is this result something you have heard of before?  Do you know of a one-step solution?  Or am I looking at an extended picture-by-picture fix?

  • HT3412 I want to send a Photo book to Belgium but I can't change the Country (now is Italy) in the shipping contacts  but only the address (name, street, city) and there is Italy fix. How can I do ?

I want to send a Photo book to Belgium but I can't change the Country (now is Italy) in the shipping contacts  but only the address (name, street, city) and there is Italy fix. How can I do ? Can I send from my country a photobook in another country?

You can change the Print Store location from iTaly to Belium in iPhoto's Advanced preference pane:
Then try to order.  HOWEVER, you still may not be able to order.  Over here in the States the shipping address must be in the same country as the billing address of the credit card used.  It may be the same way over in Europe.
Give it a try and see. Let us know how you fare.

I am having trouble saving my swatches and brushes that I create. After I close Illustrator, and come back later my swatches and brushes are gone.

Once you have a document with the swatches, brushes, symbols that you want, save it as a new Document Profile.
Document profiles can be found (and saved) in Library > Application Support > Adobe > Adobe Illustrator 18 (if you have CC) > your language folder > New Document Profiles.
Next time you create a document you will find it in the list of profiles.

The green arrows for page forward or back at the top left under File and Edit disappeared after I downloaded the new Firefox toolbar (for 3.6) and were replaced by Most Visited, Getting Started and Latest headlines Icons, which I have little use for. How do I get the Original Toolbar back?

Is the Navigation Toolbar not being displayed? See below.
<u>'''Can't see the Menu Bar'''</u> (File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, Help)?
Turning the Menu Bar on and off is a new feature in version 3.6.

You should be able to select Force Quit from the menu beneath the Apple icon in Finder
and choose to Quit iPhoto from there, without messing up the Mac OS X in the process.
    OS X - Support
Not sure if rebuilding the iPhoto library would help this issue. However if you had to
turn off the computer without the correct method (unplug, etc; instead of menu choice)
the system may have accrued damages and should be checked, maybe repaired by
use of the Disk Utility in the system. Or restart the computer in Safe Boot mode, then
run 'repair disk permissions' while it is running in that reduced mode; then restart after.

There likely are other means to rectify troublesome applications, including reinstall.

  • After I close the browser, it will not reopen for a while. I receive a message stating that firefox is still running. I can open IE at this point, but firefox is disabled for about 10 minutes

After I close the firefox browser, I cannot repoen the program. There is an error message to the effect that the program is still running. I cannot access it withthe ALT TAB command and I dont see the program active in the task bar. I can run IE at that time and get back to the web, but Firefox wont open for several minutes-not sure how long. I wait a while and I can back to the browser. That's all I can tell you unless you have specific questions Thanks BB

  • Creating a removeable subset of the iPhoto Database

My iPhoto library has grown to the size where I have to make CD/DVD Backups of the photos (and subsequently store the disk images on an external hard drive for further backup safety), just to have enough space to keep Mac OS X running smoothly.
Looking at these disc backups, it seems as if they just make a smaller iPhoto library, storing all the information, modified versions, and originals.
My question is, can I have sub-libraries on an external drive where I just need to plug in the drive, and can then access all the photos in that library and use them normally? It seems as if iPhoto is already able to do it with discs burned, but there is no other way to export photos in this manner.
I understand Apple needing to dumb down the abilities of iPhoto to keep inexperienced users from messing up their iPhoto libraries, but this feature seems as if it could be easily implemented without trouble.
Any ideas on how to do this?
    15" PowerBook G4 (DL Super Drive)   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   1.5GB RAM, 80GB HD

Ok, how do I tell Apple that hard drive space, although cheap, does not grow on trees, especially in my PowerBook
I'm looking through the "rebuilt" library (which I had to do the "rebuild thumbnails" thing to, because it didn't get that right), and there are tons of pictures in the "modified" folder that I did absolutely no modifications to.
It turns out, iPhoto is making 2 copies of every portrait (camera turned 90°) image I take when it imports them into the library. This wastes about 3GB of my hard drive space...
And for some reason, when I did the rebuild thumbnails, it duplicated the thumbnails for movie files, so now there are 2 of each of those in the "modified" folder for each movie.
I used the iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild, then used the command+option menu to recreate the thumbnails.
Whatever is going on, Apple needs to fix it. My 10 mega-pixel camera already fills up my hard drive, and making needless copies of photos doesn't help it at all.
Overall, the iPhoto Library Manager seemed to work fine for me. I'd like to split the library now, but unfortunately, that's a "paid" feature, so I'm going to have to work around that (duplicate and prune...) Apple should give that guy some cash, and incorporate everything it does into iPhoto, just to make it easier for people.
Heck, I may just go ahead and spring for aperture (or Adobe Light Room), but seeing as my camera doesn't support RAW images (thank you Canon...), I'd be paying for a ton of features I won't ever use. I want to have the ability to easily manage my photos, and be able to export, print, make slideshows, open in iMovie, etc. iPhoto already does it all, it's just that if you want to store photos in more than once place, things get complicated.
Apple needs to make "iPhoto Advanced" or "Aperture Express"...

  • Mac Book Air shuts down completely if I close the cover and leave for hours.  Message: you shut down your computer because of a problem.  Any thoughts what is happening?

Mac Book Air shuts down completely if I close the cover and leave email running.  Is n't it supposed to just sleep and awaken whe the cover is reopened?  Instead, I have to boot it.  Any idea what the problem is?  I am unaware of any problem, just close the cover for safety.

Well I don't know anyone that closes the cove and leaves it for Hours... But try going to System Prefrences > Energy Saving > Uncheck Put Hard Disk to Sleep.

  • MW64,  cs6 bridge when I move or copy files the  context menu does not retain  recent folder destinations after I close the program

W64,  cs6 bridge when I move or copy files the  context menu does not retain  recent folder destinations after I close the program. The context options that show are the ones from original install. The workspace I set up is also gone. I have every explorer box and cleaner checked to save recent. Had to disable nivedia desktop software because of weird display conflict. Have Dell pro support and they cannot fix. Any ideas to help me with this would be appreciated.

Self-solved!  I work in column view in Finder so get there in a Finder window with folders and files appearing.
There really is no problem, just select an ITEM in the COLUMN before right-clicking!
The "old" context menu will appear. If you click in the white space in that column (or anywhere in a Finder window) and then place the cursor over a folder or file WITHOUT selecting it and right-click you will bring up the secondary context menu - Open, Copy, Duplicate, View Options and a greyed out Labels option. No "Move to Trash".

I should have said in my previous message that the iphoto program I am using is for an ipad 2.  I simply want to know how to delete an edited album which contains one photo that I do not want taking up space.

OK....I'm stumped.  The message you are seeing is typically there to protect someone from syncing with a different computer/iTunes account.  Is there any way anyone else has used your iPad and possibly connected it to their computer?

  • Java program that create a graphic interface of the WGET program

    Hello,
How can I make a Java program that create a graphic interface of the WGET program.
    Please post something already developed.
    No Applet.
    Thank you.

You can use java.lang.Runtime.exec or java.lang.ProcessBuilder to execute external programs like wget. Generally you pass one of those methods an array of Strings; the first String is the name of the executable, and the rest are arguments. You get a Process object that represents the running process that you've started; you can get standard input and output streams from that Process to read output. This is probably stuff your teacher already told you...but if not, hope it helps.
You should read this article about pitfalls around Runtime.exec:
    http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html
Much of the information there also applies to ProcessBuilder.
    Good luck on your homework.

Adobe illustrator crashes right after I close the tutroial window!!  Help!
I just purchased illustrator after my trial period. It wont run!  And have resinstalled several times. Cleared my font cache.  cleaned my registry. Tried logging as a diffferent user.
    Im on windows 7
I need this to work now!!  I have a deadline for a project and this damn program wont work now.  WTF Adobe.  I'm screwed.!!
    Help me please now  asap!

This can be caused by a permissions problem with AI being unable to write the Preferences file to the proper folder. You can try running the program as an administrator.

  • With Safari 5.1, I have to re-login after I close the browser window

After I upgraded to Safari 5.1 from the previous version, I noticed some changes that I do not like.  Whenever I close the Safari browser window and later open it up again, I have to re-login to all websites that require login (such as ebay, Facebook, my Yahoo).  With the previous version of Safari, this only happened when I quit Safari and reopened the application afterwards.  With the new version, I even have to set my default location on Google Maps every time after I close the browser window.  With the previous Safari version, that didn't even happen after I quit out of it.  Another thing I noticed is that the browsing history starts listing again after I close a window, even though Private Browsing remains checked.
Is there a setting I can change to avoid having to re-login every time I close a window ?  Or is this a feature of Safari 5.1 that cannot be changed ?

If you have Private Browsing enabled, that's why you aren't staying logged into websites. Same with Google maps.
Private Browsing doesn't  "remember" AutoFill information.
Click History in the menu bar then click: Clear History
