Photo booth cannot open, camera is in use... HELP!

i have been receiving this message for a few weeks now, but i've just only had the time to look into it this weekend.
i have an imac 1.83GHz Intel, running 10.4.7 (it was 10.4.9, but i just reinstalled OS, to try and fix the problem)
i have read and re-read and printed all discussions on this problem. i have also followed specific instructions on how to fix it. these are the things i've checked into and results:
-the application is not user specific, and it happens on imovie/ichat/photobooth
-isight is not recognized in system profiler
-i have run disc utility, three times, to no avail
-i have reinstalled osX, to no avail
-i have checked my widgets and cannot find one that would possibly use the cam
-i have reset PRAM and SMC
i have no idea what else to do. this computer is only 8 months old, and i am not sure if i need to contact tech support or if there is something else out there that i am missing... but i really do not have that kind of money.
please, any help would be so appreciated. i really need this program to vidoe conference for school, and it was one of the main selling points for me when i purchased it...

  • "Photo Booth cannot open" due to graphics card, but nothing has changed!

I've been using Photo Booth on my computer, and it's worked for over a year. Yesterday, when I tried to open the program, I received an error message:
    "Photo Booth cannot open
The graphics card installed in this computer does not support Photo Booth."
Which is strange, because nothing on my computer changed since I last used Photo Booth - in fact, nothing has changed whatsoever! What could be the problem? It's a Mac OSX 10.5.6 with 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

Try using PhotoBooth in another user account--create a new one if necessary. Does it open?
Also repair disk permissions using your Install Disc 1 DVD. To do this:
    1) Insert the DVD and restart your computer while holding down the C key.
    2) Once the Installer has loaded, hit the enter/return key to move past the Language window.
    3) Move your mouse to the top of the screen--some menus should be there. Click Utilities and choose *Disk Utility*.
    4) In the left-hand column, click your hard drive's icon. (xx.x GB Fujitsu, for example) If you have Windows installed through Boot Camp, choose the "Macintosh HD" icon.
    5) Click the *Repair Permissions* button. This may take more than a few minutes to complete--be patient.
    6) If anything CAN'T be repaired, make a note of it and post it here. When the repair finishes, restart the computer.

photo booth cannot detect camera on 10.10 (MBP later 2011)
I updated my mbp to Yosemite today, then i found photo booth cannot detect my camera any more. and the FaceTime as also.

I reboot my mbp, the camera was detected. I think maybe it has some problem with woke up from sleeping mode.

  • After 10.5.3 update, Photo Booth cannot open

After I update from 10.5.2 to 10.5.3, I cannot open Photo Booth.
Photo Booth says "Photo Boot cannot open. The graphics card installed in this computer does not support Photo Booth."
My MacBook has no other graphics card than built-in one and I could open Photo Booth normally in 10.5.2, of course.
I have this problem only on my MacBook.
I also update my Power Mac G5 from 10.5.2 to 10.5.3, but there is no problem to open Photo Booth.

    Your Photo Booth is working!
The graphics card in my MacBook is as follows (System Profiler says):
    Chipset Model: GMA 950
    Type: Display
    Bus: Built-In
VRAM (Total): 64 MB of shared system memory
    Vendor: Intel (0x8086)
    Device ID: 0x27a2
    Revision ID: 0x0003
This card looks like the same as yours...

  • Photo Booth not opening

I attempted to open Photo Booth tonight and get the following error message: "Photo Booth cannot open becase no camera is attached or the camera is in use by another application. Make sure you digital video camera is properly attached and turned on. If you are using the camera with another application, close that application before trying to open Photo Booth again."
Has anyone else received this error message? I have a built-in camera on my iMac and no other applications are using the camera. Thanks

Tyler- thanks for the advice (more than I am getting from the Apple folk here- they just send me replacements! Really getting tiring- I have three MacBook Pros sitting here and NONE of them work! And NO- I am still running 10.4.6 as there is no POINT in upgrading till one of them works!) but in MY case it didn't work.
I had this problem from the outset- pulled MBPro out of box, started up, configured and transferred hard drive over and voilas- an error message when trying to launch Photo Booth to test the camera and restarting to manage to launch it, only to see me (looking harrassed) for two seconds before it fades to black once more.
Nothing is helping- not removing the battery, not using your clever idea (honestly- thanks. At least I can rule out one more bit of advice!) or "ougt"
    Sigh...
As for power surges... Hmmm... How can that be? There haven't BEEN any YET- both the replacement and the replacement of the replacement were less than an hour old! The original DID have a working camera with 10.4.7 (replaced it within a week and just as they brought out the 4.8 update so none are running it).
Sadly I fear that that is just one of those glib pseudo "tech" bamboozlers you were fed!
Glad you are sorted though- makes me hopeful that there IS a solution out there!

  • Cannot Open Camera Raw images in CS2

    Hi
I am running CS2 and PSE 8,but cannot open Raw images in CS2
My camera is an Eos 5 MKII
Camera Raw in PSE is 5.5.
I would like to open the Raw files into CS2.
    Any Help would be appreciated.
I am using the latest firmware from Canon.
    Thankyou
    Keith

Raw files are unique to each camera model and manufacturer. There is a 'model' field and 'manufacturer' field whose values are checked as any RAW format file is opened and if the program opening that file does not have the codes for processing that specific camera's RAW file, most programs will throw a error message and not precess that file.
For Adobe image editing programs you need to have the an ACR plugin version that provides the code for your camera model.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras list the various cameras supported by Adobe photo editing programs and the version of the earlies ACR plug-in that supports that camera.
For the Canon Eos 5D MKII you will need ACR plug-in version 5.2 or better.
Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications list the program versions of Adobe image editing programs, the ACR plug-in version shipped with the program and the latest ACR plug-in version that that program can use.
The last ACR plug-in version for CS2 is 3.7, so you can not directly open the CR2 or RAW image from this camera. You could upgrade to PhotoShop CS5, the most current version of PhotoShop, or download a copy the free Adobe DNG, Digital NeGative, converter and convert your CR2 files to the Adobe DNG format and then open the DNG file with your copy PhotoShop CS2. You could also open the file with Canon image editing software and transfer the image as Tiff to your copy of CS2.

  • I am trying to open CR2 files from a Cannon EOS 1DX camera in Photoshop CS6 and I have already updated the Camera Raw Plug in but Photoshop is still giving me the cannot open files dialog box? Help?

I am trying to open CR2 files from a Cannon EOS 1DX camera in Photoshop CS6 and I have already updated the Camera Raw Plug in but Photoshop is still giving me the cannot open files dialog box? Help?

Canon 1DX support was added to ACR in version 6.7, 7.1.  An updated CS6 should be at level ACR 8.6.  If your ACR is not at level 8.6 try using CS6 menu Help>Updates.  If that does not install ACR 8.6 try downloading the ACR and DNG 8.6 converter and see if ACR 8.6 will install into your CS6.

    •  If using Mac OS X (10.7.4), do the following:
    (1) Mac OS X (10.7.4):  Restart Mac, download and install OS X Lion Update 10.7.5 (Client Combo).
    (2) install Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 4.06
    (3) If trouble continues, use your Mac's  > Software Update... menu command to see if newer updates are available.
    (4) If trouble continues after all Apple Updates are applied, contact your camera manufacturer for suggestions.
    •  If using Mavericks, restart Mac, download, and install the latest Digital Camera RAW Compatibility update.
Use your Mac's  > Software Update... menu command to ensure your Mac software is up to date.
If the trouble continues, contact your camera manufacturer.  They may have software for translating their RAW files.

  • Conflict with Photo Booth and connecting camera

This is my first time posting on the discussions. I work in a commercial photography studio and we are trying connect one of our cameras to the new Macbook Pro. Photo booth keeps opening up and we get the messages that the camera is connecting and then disconnecting. We, as well as the camera rep, are at a loss. Is there some way to turn photo booth off?
    Any help would be great!
    Thanks

Well, we plugged the camera into a 17" Powerbook and it works fine. Still no progress on the Macbook Pro. I believe it is the manufacter's software. Photobooth is not bugging out now, but we still get the "Connecting" then "Disconnecting" messages, one after another.
I guess this was to be expected since this is the first time this camera has ever been plugged into the intel Macs with this new version of the software. We are kind of the guinia pigs.
    Thanks anyways.

  • MacBook Pro freezes when Photo Booth is opened.

I have a MacBook Pro, purchased June 2008, and have always had a problem with Photo Booth. When I open the program it captures an initial image, but then freezes for 15 seconds up to a few minutes. When it finally unfreezes, every program runs slows while Photo Booth is open and even a few minutes after it's been closed. I have no other problems with my iSight while using Skype, iChat or any web-based video applications. I've tried closing all other programs before using Photo Booth, but that has no effect on the freezing. It freezes even after a restart. I've checked the activity monitor and when the program is opened and freezing the CPU usage is anywhere between 75 and 99%, then it hovers around 25%. Any ideas on what I could do to stop this annoying freezing would be greatly appreciated.

Cannot open camera RAW images from Sony DSC-RX100M3 camera.  Working on a Mac with Photoshop CS5 and Camera Raw 6.7?

    Bruce,
When I made the transition to digital some 8 years ago, I had tremendous help from a number of well documented websites, among which:
    http://www.luminous-landscape.com
I think a lot of stuff there to get you seriously going. Another one is:
    http://www.computer-darkroom.com
I sold all my film based stuff, except a Nikon F3 and a handful of lenses and a Paterson developing tank.
The Nikon suspiciously smells like foam mirror damping strips chemically decaying.
I sold my enlarger over the internet. The word "enlarger" caused me to be on SpamCops blacklist for a while.
I'm in this since the seventies, and I think you'll be as amazed as I was at the possibilities and control you have. And no more bags with $300 worth of film that's consumed in one shoot.
Jump in both feet! you won't be sorry. And these forums are the best help you can get.
    Good luck,
    Rob
