Photo Booth doesn't play videos anymore

Hi all
Today I realized that, on my iMac Core Duo, Photo Booth doesn't play videos it record ( I saw the thumbnails but screen remains black when I select one) while they can be played by any other player on the computer, and from iphoto and imovie as well if I export them, all after the Mountain Lion update.
The issue doesn't occur with my MacBook Pro i7, with approximately same software installed but I can't find a solution anyway.
Can you help me please? I'm a huge fan of Photo Booth
Thank you

Hello volkerfromessen and everyone else
now i have problems with the drag and drop background effect. i can't drop images there anymore. : / haven't found any thread on here talking about this issue.
i'm afraid such issues on photobooth will become more often with time. i'm kind of hopeless that apple will fix it soon.
i haven't had any problem with Lion. but Mountain Lion has been a pain in the ***!

i'm confused? the first, second and third nano played video and had a camera....the new one doesn't

    "Any other ideas?"
Yes, contact Apple. According to their own website...
    http://www.apple.com/accessibility/itunes/hearing.html
    "Captioned Movies on iPod
iPod models that support video — including iPod classic, iPod nano (3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th generation), and iPod touch — can also display captions when present in the content. Captions display in a high-contrast white-on-black font that’s easy to read."
The 6th generation Nano plays video. Plus the fact that the email their accessibility team has sent in response to my question...
"On your hearing page, closed captioning for videos refers to the newest nano, is this correct?" seems to confirm very clearly...
    "Hi,
Thank you for the email. That information is correct, if the video content you have synced from iTunes contains closed caption information you can enable closed captioning. One thing to note, the new iPod Nano (6th Generation) will only sync music video content only.
    Apple Accessibility"
Perhaps there is some special format to Apple Music videos that I am not aware of, but it seems as though changing the tag should allow it to sync. Perhaps it's an update away?

No reason it should have stopped working. Maybe a problem waiting to happen and an upgrade pushed it over the edge. Provide some specs on your Mac, but I would really advise making an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store.
    Good Luck

    Hi tammy,
did you installed a DVD Softwareplayer like WinDVD or something else?
If yes, which is it? Does it play DVDs in the past without problems?
Do you want to play original DVDs or backup copies?

  • Firefox doesn't play video and audio, cann't download anything!

A very strange problem occurred a few days ago. I didn't pay attention on it at first ( I thought it was caused by my provider) but now I found that it's a real problem. Firefox doesn't play video or audio. For instance, it starts loading and that's all. The same is with playing music. In addition, I can't download any files and view a big image as quick as early.
What is more interesting sometimes Firefox just begins to work in ordinary way.

There is no single codec for movies that have .avi extensions. AVI is a container format, not a specific type of file. An AVI movie may use one of the Indeo codecs (there are at least four that I'm aware of, none of which have been ported to Mac OS X) or one of the various flavors of DivX, among other possibilities. You'll have to find out what codec was used for the movies you want to view to determine what you need. Note that not all codecs for the various .avi movies are available for QuickTime.
If you want to try "hit and miss", you can try the codecs at http://www.divx.com/ and http://www.3ivx.com/ and see if one of them will work for you. Perian, which rolls several codecs into one package, might also work.
If you just want to play the movie any way you can, you can also give this player a try:

Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums, in the User Tips Library and in the Apple Knowledge Base before you post a question.
    Regards.

  • How come I can't play videos anymore?

I'm running iPhoto v 7.1.5; OS X 10.9.1, but I can't play videos anymore? How is this possible?  What do I need to do? Please help.

iPhoto v7 (or iPhoto 08 dates from 2007, and is looking for Quicktime 7 to play the videos - the version of Quicktime that was current then. 10.9 uses Quicktime X.
    Two options:
Upgrade to a more recent version of iPhoto
    or
Install QUicktime 7. You'll find an installer here

  • QuickTime Problem. Doesn't play video.avi.

I have updated the system up to the latest - Maverick. After that QuickTime Player doesn't play video.avi. I have tried restarting the app - worthless. Yet, it has been showing 'Converting' for 30 mins. Please, help!

Hello, thank you for your reply. I have several more questions if you don't mind.
    1. Does it always take that long to convert a file (more than 30 mins)? It seems that it doesn't work. It stops at the beginning and than nothing changes.
    2. Since when QuickTime needs convertation for avi? I thought this is a standart format.
    3. How can I use QuickTime 7?
Here is what I see during 30 mins.
    Thank you beforehand!

  • Safari doesn't play video

Just unpacked my new iMac, updated software and run the Safari. Safari doesn't play video (tutorials) on apple.com. Still, I can hear audio well.
    Please help.

Hi Nels, I had the same problem, and I have discovered the solution, it´s fairly simple:
Go to: Safari / Preferences click on the tab extensions and there you will probably have extensions set to ON, you just have to turn extensions OFF (the alternative plugin (DivX) is causing this video error.
    greets!

  • My video playback out...every video shakes/flashes/doesn't play right. What's wrong? I thought the hard drive was too full, but I just deleted 125gigs, rebooted and it still flashes and doesn't play videos. This is true for youtube, ads, foxnews videos...

Update: The iBook can play any 480p video and higher if I encode them with DivX and in AVI format. But of course this is not compatible with my iPhone 4. At least I can shrink my library now and get away from the full MPEG-2s. I don't get why I can't use Apple's h264 though. There has to be a setting I am missing. The sample Apple h264 videos from the days of Tiger worked flawlessly on my iBook when it was new so the CPU must be capable of decoding it. I really can't understand this.
Also, since I made my videos in English for my family, I had to create soft subtitles for my wife's Chinese family, and I can't get players like QT with perian or MPlayerX to sync them properly to an AVI encoded with DivX, they only sync well with the iPhone 4 m4v/mp4 formatted files I made. This is a real pickle.
So now I may need three or four copies of each video, LOL. I need to hardcode the subtitles if I want to use AVI to playback on older machines, and keep the mp4 file for the iDevices too, while keeping higher quality h264 videos for my American relatives...
If h264 is compatible with my iBook, what is the proper encoding settings? Must I dramatically lower the settings or frame rate? I can settle on 2 copies of each video that way. One iBook/G4/eMac compatible video that syncs correctly with my srt soft subs, and another version that works well with my iPhone 4 and iPad.
All in all, I will end up with more than 3 or 4 version of each video. On my late G5 dual core I have the full 720-1080p uncompressed master files. On my i5 iMac I have the h264 compressed versions for distribution, and lower versions for my iDevices. Now I need to keep either full MPEG-2 files for the iBook to play, or convert to older formats like DivX AVI for our family's legacy machines. I am running out of hard disk space quick now, LOL.
    Is there an easier way?

  • Photo Booth doesn't work, what did I do wrong?

I just got a new iSight, and in the very beginning everything worked properly, including the camera and the front row remote control. However, after I have installed few softwares I need to use (Backup 3, Microsoft Office, and the wireless Logitech keyboard and mouse, the Photo Booth would not open any more and gives me the following warning: "Make sure your digital video camera is properly attached and turned on. If you are using the camera with another application, close that application before trying to open Photo Booth again." The remote doesn't work either. Could anyone help with the idea what it might be? Thanks a lot as always.
    Zo

The issue has been solved thanks to the great guys on the Support Web Chat, they lead me through the resseting PRAM and NVRAM, and now everything works just fine.
    Cheers to all.

  • Photo Booth doesn't display snapshots

I know that Photo Booth is supposed to "print" your snapshot down into the bin below the display screen. But when I try to take a snapshot, 4-shot, or video, it doesn't do that. It counts down, "snaps," and freezes the display as if that were the photo, but it won't "print" it down to the bin, and it won't let me take another photo. I cannot find anyone else who has had this problem.
I've deleted the program and re-installed it once already, to no effect. This happens on both my new iMac and my new MacBook, but only on my personal account (mirrored through the Migration Assistant...if I create a new account, it works the way it's supposed to). Help?
