Photo Booth don't detect my isight camera...?

It worked like 2 days ago, but now it seems my isight camera can't be found anymore...Help

Yeah, check with your Ichat. If not, unplug the camera and try again? Or restart your computer? Or do both. Sometimes the computer just loses sight of it, no pun intended, and needs to kind of restart the process. It's not a huge problem, whatever it is can be easily fixed. If that doesn't work there are many other options, it may be something under your preferences?

  • Photo Booth does not turn on iSight

iChat and iMovie will both turn it on, so I know it's not a hardware problem, but I can't get Photo Booth to turn it on. If i press the button to snap a picture, it goes through the motions, "Flashes", and I get a black picture since the iSight never turned on.
Things I have tried so far
    repair permissions
    full restart
deleted PH's .plist file in my home directory
    reinstalled from the original DVD
and finally, logged in as a new user, where it still failed, so I know it's not a problem in my Home directory.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else I can try?
Oh, and yes, it used to work fine, but I haven't had a need for PH in several months.
Thanks in advance for any help, or suggestions on what might be a better forum to pose this in if this wasn't the best choice for a software problem!

    Welcome, J Coffle
I think you are in a good place, but I imagine you will only think it is the right place if you get your problem solved. At any rate, if I can think of a better place, I will let you know.
First, what is "PH"? Assuming you mean "Photo Booth", I will offer a couple of suggestions for your consideration. If I am wrong, stop here and post back the correct meaning.
You have tried several good things. Here are a few more you can consider.
    (1) Disconnect all peripherals while you do your testing to rule out possible conflicts.
    (2) Check for any running applications, Login Items, or widgets that can use your iSight. (It is easy to forget widgets like Mirror in your Dashboard.) As explained in Apple's iSight "Your camera is in use by another application" message, iSight can be used by one application at a time.
    (3) Try every relevant Built-in iSight suggestion in How to Troubleshoot iSight.
    (4) If resetting or the other troubleshooting suggestions do correct your problem, try the following:
    - Backup your Home Folder, or at very least, your important files.
    - Repair permissions.
    - Then download and apply the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update (PPC).
    - Perform another Permissions Repair.
    - Then check Photo Booth again with no other iSight apps running.
Users have reported fixes to a variety of audio, video, connectivity, and software conflicts and unreliability issues after properly applying the latest Combo Updates.
If you can recall anything significant that might have changed since Photo Booth last worked, what changed would be helpful to know if you must post back for more ideas.

Photo Booth will not open.  My camera works well with other apps.

try running it in either 32 or 64bit mode and see if this changes the experience. Locate the icon in Finder, right click "get-info" on it and see the checkmarks "run in 32bit mode" ..
on Lion some users had trouble opeining pb when "iglasses" was installed, also a thing to check.
Else repair permissions of the disk, using Apples disk utility app.

I have already copied my photographs to the a library manager but when I tried to reuse iphoto and import the photos back into iphoto, it would not let me.
You can't "copy" your photos to the "library manager", there is just no way to any such thing.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Photo Booth is not detecting iSight

In the last couple days, whenever I have opened Photo Booth to take a picture, it doesn't automatically turn on my iSight camera. however, the camera works fine in iChat. When I click on the "Camera" menu when Photo Booth is open, it has the Built in iSight camera selected, but the green light does not turn on and I only have a black screen and can't take a picture.

  • Do the Photo Booth effects apply to your builtin camera on yahoo messenger?

    Hiya,
Just got a G5 IMAC and was wondering if you select an "effect" in Photo Booth will it apply to your isight camera. Is that how you are seen or will it be just normal? I am using the BETA version of Yahoo Messenger. Will it owrk on any other chats.
If not are there any programs I can use?
    Many Thanks in advance

no the effects are only under Photo Booth. You can try iGlasses for effects in other programs.

  • Photo Booth appears to have a failed camera

On my Macbook Leopard that I have recently had to reinstall the OS and I have also successfully backup up the system to an External drive one thing has come back operating differently. Photo Booth no longer has any picture from the camera in the lid. There's still a green light on the right side of the Camera but none on the small light on the left.
It still plays back old pictures it took as snapshots when it was working and plays short movies but it won't show a new picture.
I can't find any controls to Brighten the camera or increase the exposure or any settings for the camera at all. The help file doesn't cover anything about this kind of error. Does anyone know why it might have gone into a black blank screen? If so can it be cured easily or is my Macbook a faulty one ?
    Thanks
    Plado

This one solved itself on a re boot.
I have no idea why the camera wouldn't initialize but a reboot while I was on the phone to the help line (vendor's 30 day support following purchase) the Picture returned.
I felt a bit foolish. Doesn't a reboot usually solve anything.
Hope nobody wasted any time reading this!
    Thank You

    Hi ..
Make sure your OS X software is up to date.
Click the Apple  top left in your screen.
From the drop down menu click Software Update
And try the troubleshooting steps for the built in iSight camera here >  How to Troubleshoot iSight

You do not KNOW that a bug is causing your trouble.  Only troubleshooting will help you find and fix the actual cause of your symptoms.
It is possible that you have a hardware problem that will require service by a technician.
Ralph is helping you with troubleshooting.  Follow his good instructions.
When you have exhausted all possible user fixes, or if you simply run out of time and really NEED to use your Mac's camera, professional service may be the fastest fix for you.

  • After 3.1.3 iphoto & image capture don't detect iphone as camera device.

I have installed the recent update 3.1.3 on my iphone 3GS.
My iphoto (or image capture) no longer detects the iphone as a camera...
and will not automatically bring up the import option.
I can't get photos and video from the iphone to the computer...
The iphone seems to sync with itunes without any problem... it's just the image capture.
I have a laptop (running OS X 10.5.8) and a imac desktop... neither of them detact the iphone when it is connected for image capture... iphoto is set to open automatically when a camera is detected (i tried my other dedicated digital camera and it works fine)... even if I manually open iphoto - it simply won't import... I have restarted everything... I have swapped the connection cords...
it has to be a bug in the update... everything was working fine before the update.
    please help...

I found another thread which solved the problem for me...

  • FaceTime (and Photo Booth) do not recognize my internal camera

I don't believe I have made any substantive changes to my system but my camera is no longer recognized on my iMac (late 2009, 10.8.2).  Facetime is working on my MacAir and iPhone.  It isn't working on the computer as I tried another account.
    It just stopped.  Any ideas?

If it doesn't work in multiple applications and in multiple users then it's either a general OS issue or a HW issue.
I would turn off the Mac and reset the SMC and PRAM and see if you get any better luck. If not then you could also try booting to Safe Mode and testing it there. If none of that works then you skip right ahead and reinstall the OS (won't affect your files but make sure you have a backup just incase). If after all of that it still doesn't work then you may want to look at getting it into a store for some diagnostics.

  • Why does photo booth say that there is no camera connected?

When i open photobooth or Facetime, or any other programe to use my inbuilt camera it comes up with "no camera connected".
One day it was working, i had no accidents that i recall that would have caused this to happen and there are no other issues just this!

  • Photo Booth ignores external iSight

    Hello people
Ever since my upgrade to Leopard, Photo Booth no longer uses my external firewire iSight camera.
Previously, Photo Booth would use the external iSight camera, when the built-in was unavailable because the notebook lid was closed. Now it just says the camera is off.
Both iMovie and iChat AV will happily use the external iSight camera. If I try to use a Video Input in a Quartz Composition, the external iSight is ignored just as it is in Photo Booth.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Best regards,
    Anders Borum

    two things to try:
    (1) With Photo Booth (v2) running, unplug your external iSight, wait about 5 seconds, and reconnect.
    (2) If you still do not see the camera view, turn external iSight off (rotate the front of the lens barrel), wait about 5 seconds, and turn iSight on again.
Although I am not using an iNtel Mac, the first one got me a dark image, and the second one got my external iSight working correctly.

  • Photo booth can not be run

    Hi all !
Everything was working perfectly and since my last update, photo booth doesn't want to start :
The error message is as follow :
    "Photobooth ne peut pas s'ouvrir
La carte graphique installée dans cet ordinateur ne prend pas en charge Photo Booth."
    Translated :
"Photo booth can not be run :
The graphics card installed in this computer does not work with Photo Booth."
I tested other apps and it works fine
    Need help !
    Thanks a lot !

    Hi,
I think I'm having the same problems as the OP. When I click on Photo Booth to open, I get an error message that says:
    "Photo Booth cannot open
The graphics card installed in this computer does not support Photo Booth."
The built-in iSight camera appears to be working fine with iChat and Skype, it just refuses to work with Photo Booth, it's worked perfectly for the last 2 years, I don't understand why it's doing this now.
Could you please provide me with a step by step guide on how to fix this problem.
    Thanks!
    Any help is much appreciated.

  • Make a Video using Photo Booth?

I once made a video using photo booth and the built in isight camera. However, today I opened photo booth and cannot figure out how to switch it to video mode. It just takes pictures. I believe there use to be a switch on the interface to change it to video mode but I can't seem to find it anyway.
How do I do this? Did they update photo booth and remove that feature?
I want to use photo booth to shoot my quick online reviews and not imovie.

    Hello Derek
dolbinau is right! You need Leopard to use Photo Booth 2.
If you want to keep Tiger and still record video with "effects", take a look at WebcamTweaker
