Photo Booth/FaceTime
How do you change your camera to black and white on the iMac so its black and white on skype calls and facetime calls?
To take manual control, you need to add iGlasses.
"Saturation" is the parameter that controls how intense the color is in your images. Setting it to zero makes images black and white. Although some apps allow you to control saturation (and some other) of your camera's parameters with in-app controls, the two apps you mention automatically set it. Thus you need iGlasses for B&W images with them.

IChat, Photo Booth, FaceTime camera not working
Upgraded to Lion, waited for the update.01. Camera is not working in any program. Tryed the SMU reset with no effect.
Hi,
You list two machines in your specs that are not Intel Macs and do not list a computer that can run Lion.
Does the camera appear in System Profiler (Hardware > USB) ?
Is Blue Tooth On ?
Any other potential USB internally connected item that may be drawing too much power ?
Any External USB device that is Unpowered ?
Try the equivilant of the Firewire Port reset.
Unplug all external devices.
Power down for 15 minutes using Shut Down (Unplug Power as well if Laptop)
Start up with no external devices.
Try Camera (App).
Start adding back external devices.

Camera, FaceTime, photo booth are gone.... What's happening
I have been using the iPad for a couple days, and I realized that the camera, photo booth, FaceTime icons are gone. What's happening ?
I'm having a similar problem. The difference that the restrictions are disabled and I still don't have camera, facetime or photo booth. When I enable restrictions I can't event turn the camera or facetime on. Not able to select on or off.
Any ideas? The iPad mini was purchased one day ago.
Thank you -

NicoHello Winsoton and thanks for your reply. I also tried to open it with various programs I have, iMovie, Quicktime, HandBrake, iTunes, no luck
As to what EZ Jim said, yes Photo Booth is a basic, fun app. and one should not rely on it to record important clips on it but its not that I chose to record an important clip there, just that it coincidently started as a fun clip but ended up being important after. Kinda like coincidently capturing video footage of a UFO with your cheap camera phone one day you were recoding a nice sunset, in the end you wish you could of had a HD professional video camera instead of your phone lol. Not that I caught UFO's on tape through my imac's Photo Booth lol. Just using it as an example to why the clip is important.
Anyhow, the issue here, so as to not get out of the subject by discussing why it is an impotant clip, is that I am trying to figure out if anyone has been able to open a file like that with any program, or knows a way to do it.
Anyhow, thanks for your guy's replies. Im still trying to figure it out how to open it.
If anyone finds out how to, let me and Jvaldez know, i think we are in the same situation, trying to open a .mov file that was recorded on Photo Booth without hitting the stop button in the end to end it, but rather closing the program.

When I open the camera app all I get is a black screen. If I choose FaceTime or photo booth it works just fine so camera itself is fine. It seems to be the app that is not fine.
What is wrong and how do I fix it?Quit the camera app completely and then try it again..
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button.
Try the camera app again. -

Hi there,
There are a couple of things that we can try. A good first troubleshooting for a varity of issues is resetting your computers PRAM.
OS X Lion: Reset your computer’s PRAM

If your issues persist, then ther eare some troubleshooting steps found in the article below.

Video on skype not working. Only functioning in facetime and photo booth. Seems to be a common problem amongst users having bought a new macbook air recently. When you go to Preference and click on audio/video item video works but when clicking on another menue and returning to audio/videio picture is gone. Understand has something to do with a recent update von Apple (10.8.5... missing file for 32 bit version).
Anybody there to give me an advice?
Thanks.Wait until a fix is available from Apple or Skype.
Best. -
Facetime,App store and photo booth not working OS X
Facetime, Appstore and Photo booth not working OS X
I would recommend first doing a PRAM reset. You can find instructions for that in https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3603.
Please let us know if that works or not, there are several other things you can try. -

I've deleted FaceTime and photo booth how do reinstall
I've deleted FaceTime and photo booth and can't seem to reinstall them.ive looked in app store the ones that came with my iPad are not on there! How can I reinstall deleted apps please help x
Try this as well - go to Settings>General>Restrictions. If you turned on restrictions you may have disabled those apps - or at least Facetime - and they/it will not appear on the iPad until you turn off the restrictions.
You will not lose anything if your restart your iPad.
Swipe to the right from your first home screen to get to the iPad Spotlight search. Type in FaceTime or PhotoBooth and hit go on the keyboard. If they show up - you will know they are on the iPad somewhere. -
My MacBook Air 2nd h 2011 running Mac OS X ver 10.7.5, camera disappeared. FaceTime. Photo Booth, iChat, Skype can't find it. It isnt in System Report, in USB High-Speed tree. I've browsed discussions found no solution.Pls help me
JLeme wrote: ... camera ... isnt in System Report, in USB High-Speed tree...
If you have tried every relevant suggestion from How to Troubleshoot iSight but your camera is still not recognized anywhere in your System Profiler's USB Device Tree, you likely have a hardware problem.
Properly applying the Combo version of the latest update for your Mac OS can sometimes correct software problems, but, if your trouble is caused by a hardware problem, there are no user serviceable parts of the camera. For hardware help, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service on your MacBook Air. -
When open FaceTime and photo booth ,it shows no camera connection
when open FaceTime and photo booth ,it shows no camera connection
As just said there is no built in camera in the mac pro, so just what kind of "built in" camera are you talking about? Apple's 27" LED "built-in" camara?

Dear Apple, why not SIMPLY bring Photo Booth and Facetime together?
Dear Apple,
as I was going through your Website I noticed that FaceTime and PhotoBooth are very similar. I don't know how these two are built, but ins't this a great idea bring them together? Because I don't see any problems. And how about having iChat integrated like Windows Lync (Coorporate Communicator)?Hi,
In actual fact iChat came first.
It had Video Effects before Photo Booth came out and could/can take snapshots of the Preview pic or the chat.
Face Time at one level (visually) is a much simpler app all round.
It does one job. Connecting Video chats on a 1-to-1 basis.
iChat can connect to Jabber servers and/or use the AIM Network (i.e Screen Names and IDs from other servers)
Face Time uses Apple IDs
Face Time also uses port 5223 the same as Jabber servers do (Jabber servers use this for Login).
Currently an MobileMe name ending in @me.com is:-
1) an Apple ID (Access to Communities with an Alias, iTunes, On Line Store, MacApp Store and so on)
2) A Working Email
3) a Valid Screen Name with the AIM Service (providing your password is 16 characters or less (AIM Limit)
4) a Face Time Name. (re 1) ) (Listed only to stress the point)
A @mac.com name is:-
1) a valid AIM Screen Name (Same password Restrictions)
2) An Apple ID (There was a time when names could be registered after MobileMe was launched, up to about 6 months ago when the Apple ID part was Optional)
3) May be a working email if linked to an MobileMe account at the Mobile Me launch.
An Apple ID can be any other name, most likely an email address that has been used to register in any of the places in 1) in the Mobileme bit.
If an Email was used this way it cannot be linked to a new Apple ID (Such as an @mac.com registration for iChat or Face Time)
There would be some use in Face Time having a Jabber server so that Face Time to iChat could be done.
(It remains to be seen how many would wish to add Jabber as well as having an AIM (Valid) name in iChat.
iChat and Face Time can in fact access the camera at the same time (the only two apps that I know can do this without the Camera in Use message).
There might be a call for Video effects in Fact Time but this may be beyond the processor capabilities of iOS devices.
All in all linking Photo Booth and Face Time would only recreate iChat.

Webcam displays red screen in FaceTime and Photo Booth
I haven't used my built-in webcam recently, but when I tried to use FaceTime, the screen is showing bright red with no video. The Photo Booth shows the same thing. Any ideas or fixes?
After the original (flawed) update to OS X 10.8.5 was installed, the internal camera of a 2013 MacBook Air would not work in Skype and some other third-party applications. The flaw was fixed in a supplemental update. However, if you followed some questionable advice that was circulating on this site to hack your system before installing the supplemental update, then it will not restore camera functionality; in fact, the camera won't work at all. The solution in that case, most likely, is to install the 10.8.5 Combo update.
In the future, I suggest you ignore advice to hack your system by replacing, removing, or changing built-in system components.
