  • Photo booth freezing after taking photos or videos...

so almost every time i use my iSight and photobooth to take a photo or record a video my mac freezes and i cant force quit or even click on anything. i end up having to manually shut down my mac and then reboot it. it still saves the photos/videos most of the time but its very obnoxious that it freezes after each time i try to take a photo, especially since i just got this MacBookPro a week ago.
has anyone experienced similar problems and know any solutions?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, UnadmirableActs
so such problems can be caused by software issues you can fix.
Mac OS X is a robust operating system, but it does require some simple occasional maintenance for best performance. It sounds to me like your Mac may need some maintenance now.
First, you should Safe Boot your Mac. Safe Boot forces an automated OS X disk check and repair routine. If your disk needs significant work, Safe Boot may take several minutes to finish. Do NOT try to use your Mac while in Safe Mode. When your desktop appears in Safe Mode, immediately restart your Mac normally. Use the Safe Boot procedure the first time you start your OS X Mac after any hard shutdown (whenever you "manually shut down my mac".)
When your Mac restarts normally after a Safe Boot, you should repair your startup disk's permissions. Depending upon how much repair is needed, permissions repair may take many minutes or even a few hours the first time you do it. Subsequent runs should take only a few minutes.
For normal maintenance (other than after a hard shutdown,) you can also use Disk Utility rather than a Safe Boot to verify your startup disk.
As soon you have performed your OS X maintenance, try the suggestions in Apple's How to Troubleshoot iSight to test your iSight's function. If you encounter problems after having performed OS X maintenance, try the reset process suggested in the Troubleshooting suggestions. The reset usually restores proper function of the built-in iSight.

  • PHOTO BOOTH FREEZES WHEN OPENING ANY OTHER APP

I am a fairly new Mac user after using Windows PCs for many decades so please bear with me on this. I purchased a new unibody MacBook Pro a few months ago and everything works as advertised except for one thing. If I am looking at myself in photo booth the video is fine. However, if I open any other application---browser, iwork, iphoto, anything----my picture on photo booth freezes. The picture unfreezes and returns to normal video as soon as I close the other application. I bought a MacBook Pro for my 14 year old last Summer and it has the same problem which leads me to believe there must be some tweak or some fairly obvious fix that I am overlooking. Because of this issue neither laptop can be used for video chat--just won't work. I would appreciate any suggestions that anyone might be able to offer. Both MacBook Pros are fully updated and both are 15" screens. If I change user accounts the same problem occurs. Spoke on the phone with one of the "geniuses" at the local Apple Store and he said he had never heard of this issue which seems strange since it occurs on both of our Macs---unlikely coincidence. Hope there is some "genius" on this forum that can save the day here. Thanks in advance for any assistance or advice.

I have solved my issue after several attempts and guidance from the Apple Community. I found a posting that that stated to reinstall OS X 10.8.2.
    1. I backup my mac to me Time Capsule.
    2. I reinstalled OS X 10.8.2
    3. I deleted from preference file "com.apple.iPhoto.plist" (Open "Finder". Click "Go" menu. Then press "Option" key. The "Go" menu will display "Library" which you should click. Then go to "Preferences" folder. The file you should delete is under that folder.)
    I then opened iPhoto.
Whala it opened with no issues at this point....
Happy camper now. Hopefully this may help others as I spent all weekend working on this fix.

  • On my iPhone I have duplicates of photos in moments after upgrading to ios7

On my iPhone I have duplicates of photos in moments after upgrading to ios7

    - If the photos were taken by or saved to the iPod just use the computer's camera/image capture software to get them from the iPod.
    - If the photos were synced to the iPod you need a third-party program such as PhoneView of TouchCopy.

  • Itunes freezes after upgrading to OS X Mavericks v10.9.3 on connecting iPhone 5

Itunes freezes after upgrading to OS X Mavericks v10.9.3 on connecting iPhone 5.
I tried it with a differnt Iphone and the results are the same. Any suggestions?

    Hi JZN1994,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand that after updating your computer to 10.9.3 iTunes stops responding when an iPhone is connected to it. There may be few different steps you will need to go through to get this resolved. I suggest working through the steps in the attached article.

  • Photo Booth flash not working in Maverick or Yosemite

I have noticed that the photo booth flash in Maverick on my Macbook Pro and in Yosemite on my iMac is not working Screen flash is enabled on both.
So this is happening on two different computers. Does anyone know how to fix this? All my photos are so dark on both of my computers using Maverick and Macbook Pro.
It works fine on system 10.6.8 though.
Has anyone else had this problem too?
    Martha

In case anyone is interested in your screen flash not working in the Yosemite or Maverick photo booth application, I finally called Apple today and he kept insisting it was working on his - I asked him to take a pic with the screen flash enabled and then disable it and he said it came out the same. And rationalized that it was because he was in a well lit room. I kept telling him in my old photo booth from system 10.6.8 that my face was lit up and my husband had reflections from his glasses so we went from him wanting me to reinstall my software (I refused since both computers were having the same problem - one using Yosemite and the other using Maverick)  to him finally going into HIS partitioned disk that has system 10.6.8 on it to discover that the flash there reflected off HIS glasses too. Bottom line is he admitted there has to be some flaw that prevented the photo booth flash from working for Maverick and Yosemite. Whew, finally validation!

  • My labels have disappeared from every pic in my iPhoto library after upgrade to work with yosemite

MMy labels have disappeared from every picture in my iPhoto library after upgrading to work with Yosemite.

I didn't do anything to the LaCie when I got it.
    Then that's likely the issue.
Select the drive on the Desktop and go File -> Get Info. You can find out the format in that window:

  • Wi-Fi: Nohardware installed after upgrading to OS X Yosemite on a MacBook Air

My MacBook Air lost the WiFi installation after upgrading to OS X Yosemite. The error message is: Wi-Fi: No hardware install.

In some cases, this issue is caused by a hardware fault. A loose connection, a short circuit, or a microscopic break in a solder joint may open and close depending on temperature, making the failure intermittent.
Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already taken. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Turn off Bluetooth. If you have a desktop Mac, you'll need a wired keyboard and mouse to take this step. Those are useful to have anyway, because Bluetooth is not completely reliable. If Wi-Fi works with Bluetooth turned off but not when you turn it back on, delete all pairings in the Bluetooth preference pane and recreate them. Restart the computer and test again.
2.. There are a few reports that the problem was solved by unchecking the box marked
              Wake for Wi-Fi network access
in the Power Adapter tab of the Energy Saver preference pane. I can't confirm.
    3. Reset the NVRAM.
    4. Reset the System Management Controller.
    5. Start up in Recovery mode. In the menu bar of the OS X Utilities screen, there's a Wi-Fi menu. Try to connect.
    6. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • After upgrading to OS X Yosemite, I keep getting popups asking for my "Local Items" keychain for cloudd, calendar, messenger and on and on...and then it wants me to change my password, only won't accept it when I do.

After upgrading to OS X Yosemite, I keep getting popups asking for my "Local Items" keychain for cloudd, calendar, messenger and on and on...and then it wants me to change my password, only won't accept it when I do.

There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, testing after each one, until it's resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Follow the directions in this support article.
    Step 2
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Select the iCloud keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain.
    Step 3
Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Keychain box. You'll be prompted to delete the local iCloud keychain. Confirm. Then re-check the box. Follow one of the procedures described in this support article to set up iCloud Keychain on an additional device.
    Step 4
Open the Keychains folder as in Step 1. There should be a file in that folder with the name "login.keychain". If there is also a file iwith the name "login_renamed_1.keychain", then please do as follows:
    ☞ Rename login.keychain to "login-old.keychain".
    ☞ Rename login_renamed_1.keychain to "login.keychain".
You can then close the folder.
Delete the login keychain from the keychain list in Keychain Access. Choose
               Delete References
when prompted, not Delete References & Files.
    Select
              File ▹ Add Keychain...
from the menu bar. Add back the file now named "login.keychain". If any of your needed keychain items are missing from it, also add back the file now named "login-old.keychain". I suggest you transfer any needed items from that keychain to the login keychain, then delete it. The transfers are made by drag-and-drop in Keychain Access. You'll need to enter your password for each item transferred.
Run Keychain First Aid again. Quit Keychain Access.

  • Itunes wifi sync does not work after upgrade to OS X Yosemite

    Hi,
After upgrade to OS X Yosemite itunes wifi sync with my ipad and iphone stopped working. After attaching the iphone and ipad with a cable, I could sync, but as soon as the cable was removed, the ipad and iphone disappeared again from itunes. And wifi did still nok work.

Apparently something is not being saved somewhere and this technique forces the save.  Below is a C&P from another poster describing the technique on a different thread.  It's been working for him for some fifteen hours.  I tried it and it's been working but it's been only ten minutes.  My gut feel is that quitting and relaunching iTunes are critical steps.
With the device connected via cable, click on its icon
    Uncheck WiFi syncing
    Click Apply
    Quit iTunes
    Launch iTunes
    Check WiFi syncing
    Click Apply

  • After upgrading my Macbook to Yosemite, the volume icon at the top right is greyed out and sound does not work.

After upgrading my Macbook to Yosemite, the volume icon at the top right is greyed out and sound does not work.

Interesting bug. I'm cautiously optimistic this will get rid of the weekly annoyance. The difference is that I bought my laptop back in Feb 2015, so it came with Yosemite. I think the issue may have appeared soon after an OS update not long after I got the thing, though. I was using a sudo command in the Terminal, but that is obviously not a fix.
I wonder if there is a broken .plist file that may be fixed ...?

  • Photo Booth freezing/crashing Mavericks OS. How can I fix this?

I downloaded Mavericks via Apple on November 5.  Before installing it I made sure my Mac system was totally functional: ran disk repairs, checked if I had installed apps that wouldn't run in Mavericks, etc. Everything went well during installation, and I was able to use my laptop for two days UP UNTIL I tried to use Photo Booth! I got a message that Photo Booth was gathering my images (presumably to move it to a new location based on new configuration of Mavericks), and there was also a progress bar. Suddenly I realized that the progress bar would not advance and that my MacBook Pro (mid 2007) had frozen. I restarted it, only to have it freeze upon startup.  I tried resetting the PRAM, and that only allowed me to make it to the desktop, but with no visible hard drive on my desktop, no dock at all, and I couldn't access any of the menus in the Finder window, not even to restart or shut down. Then I tried several options:
Hard reset and tried to boot in safe mode. NOTHING. It was just impossible to safe boot it. At times I'd get up to half of the progress bar and then it'd freeze. Hard reset Command + S
    Hard reset Command + V
Hard reset and reset the PRAM again, etc.
Eventually I'd  make it to the desktop, the dock would show up, also the files on my desktop, but it'd not take longer to freeze again. It was all very odd because there was always a point when it'll would just freeze.
Then I decided to try Command + R to repair disks. I Verified and repaired the discs. Then I restarted, and it froze. I decided to reinstall the OS through the Recovery mode screen. I did it. No success the problem persisted. I redid all this last steps again: Command + R, verify/repair disks, reinstall OS X. Once completed: MBP froze. The whole process was so time consuming that I gave up and just turned off my computer. The next day I was able to turn my computer on with success. Some of the folders that were open before the Photo Booth crash were on open. I closed everything and turned my MPB off using the Finder menu. Then I turned it on again, and once I got to the desktop and found no folders open, and I reopen Safari because I remember I was using it before opening Photo Booth. To my surprise it opened and all the pages I was visiting before the crash were there as if Safari resumed just how it was before the crash. I turned it all off again using the Finder menu. I was wondering if those Safari and the folders that were left open were for some reason conflicting with the system's start up. Then I turned it on again and this time I proceed to work with my computer but not before verifying/repairing the disks through the System Preferences menu.
Everything went well. Later that day I decided to open Photo Booth to see if it'd work smoothly. It didn't open very smoothly but I was able to play around with it for a while. I turned it off and everything was great. The system was a little slower than what I was used to but I guessed it's because Mavericks demands a more advanced hardware. Then the next day the problem restarted!!! I was able to get to my desktop normally and decided to open Photo Booth to complete the task I wanted it to use it on the day of the first freeze/crash. And it froze my computer and it all restarted. This time, even redoing all the steps and even after reinstalling the system 3 times, I still can't get my computer to work. But at least one thing I know: this problems is being caused by Photo Booth! I'm desperate and I don't want to format and do a clean install because I will lose some important files. Does any of you have ANY idea of what's going on and what can I do to fix this? It's unnerving to have it fixed once (not knowing how) and suddenly find myself dealing with the same problem again!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report — they're very long and not helpful.

  • [SOLVED] System freeze after upgrade linux-3.12.9-2 to linux-3.13.4-1

After upgrading from kernel 3.12.9 to 3.13.4 (booth x86_64 architecture) i detected system freeze after round about 0.5s of the login screen about 80% of the time.
So i first thought it coulbe be the the ati driver and uninstalled that via livecd/chroot.
But the same thing happens in comand line only mode.
Afterwards i setup at ssh server to get into the maschine if it is still running, but is was also not responding to that.
Downgrading to 3.12.9 solved the issue. In journalctl i could not find any usefull information.
