Photo Booth icon is there, but application will not operate

I just recently had to delete my hard drive, and when I reinstalled the software, my Photo Booth application wouldn't work. This computer has been to the retail store for video problems and is now home, but the Photo Booth is not working. In fact, I cannot even determine if the camera is working. Help!!!

Welcome to Discussions, Amy Freeland
I suggest you take your iMac back to the store and ask them to finish the repairs. Be sure to ask them to show you a demonstration that the camera works before you take it home the second time.
If you want to try to fix it yourself before you take it back, try the relevant suggestions here:
  http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93240
Those suggestions will help you determine whether your camera works in any user account with iChat, iMovie, Photo Booth, or some of the other Applications You Can Use With iSight.

when I went to the library folder there was no receipts only
com.adobe.Reader whihc included install.log
so I guess that means something is missing?
If above still doesn't resolve problem - go to the folder named
"Receipts" in the Mac OS X Library folder (i.e. the main Library
not you Users Library) and delete the file named Adobe Photoshop
Lightroom 2.pkg

• I've burnt a slideshow of my photos onto a DVD disc but it will not play on my DVD player. It plays ok on my acer laptop. I burnt the same disc with slideshow from my old dell computer

I've burnt a slideshow of my photos on my Apple Mac to a DVD+REW disc but it will not play on my DVD player or on a combined DVD/TV. However it will play on my wife's Acer laptop. I then erased the disc & burned another slideshow from my ancient Dell computer onto the same disc &it played just fine on everything. So it seems the problem ids somewhere in the Apple Mac process. Any ideas?

If you want to play material on a dedicated DVD Video hardware player, you must create a DVD video disc, and you must use a DVD authoring application. The software creates files that the DVD video player can play and will burn them to a recordable DVD disc. Examples of applications are:
Roxio Toast and iSky DVD Creator
Mac's used to be supplied with iDVD authoring software but Apple discontinued it in 2011.
Thanks for that.  Will need to check iSkysoft out.  I am in the process of looking for a VisualHub replacement/backup.  Especially when it comes to ease of use.  Toast is ok.  Just looking for something along the lines of VH.

Close all windows and quit all applications.
Click the Spotlight -the magnifying glass icon- in the menu bar. Enter Disk utility in the box.
Select Disk Utility from the drop down. When the Disk utility window opens up,
select  Macintosh HD, then First Aid.
        Click Repair Disk Permissions button.

• Download helper no longer works - icon is there but it does not recognise flv video on any site - not a PC guru so easy help needed !!!!

I have only just started to use Firefox as I got very tired of IE. I watch a lot of flash/flv videos on many different sites and sometimes like to download some of these (which I could do on IE but couldn't here). I downloaded the add on "download helper" which was great and worked really well and easily but all of a sudden it now no longer works (the icon is still there but it won't recognise any type of video form any site at all - and I have no idea at all how to repair/fix it.
I am not a PC expert or guru so any kind of easy step by step help will be greatly appreciated (I don't want to have to go back to the horrible IE please!!!!!)

Does it work in the latest Release version - Firefox 31?

• RE: Installed "Access Denied" posting. I have same problem and none of the answers have worked. Ownership is blank but application will not accept me.

RE: "Access Denied" question following install of Firefox. I have same problem. Details follow: I tried opening in Safe Mode which did not work. I have Administrative access. When I click the general tab in properties I get a message that "firefox.exe" does not exist. Neither that file nor any other "install" type of file appears in the Mozilla Firefox directory except for "uninstall". I have downloaded and tried to install seven times from six different sources, including Mozilla, all with the same results. I've also tried a number of solutions from the web for this error message with no greater success. I tried, first, doing an upgrade then deleted the older version of Firefox and have done "install" since. Avast, Malwarebytes and Threatfire have found no malware.
I have never had a similar problem with Firefox before and I've used it for years. Anyone have any ideas I haven't already tried? I'm tired of using Internet Explorer! RE: troubleshooting information below--Windown will not open the downloaded file.

These steps are recommended for this error message mentioned:
Troubleshooting Extensions and Themes, however it seems like you may need to reinstall Firefox since the directory cannot be found.
Other solutions to this have been to uninstall and use CCleaner to clean up any old registries. However this will loose data from the profile.
I am seeing the errors and troubleshooting steps all mentioned here:
*
And it seems the best bet would be to uninstall and reinstall. If you can see the profile folder, it is possible to make a back up of the profile Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles here.
For a clean reinstall:
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu and click the close button ).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*Windows:
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Installing Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

• After a mac update; flash player asked to be installed.  Install successful but application will not work.

Hello,
After a Mac update, flash player (along with silverlight) asked to be installed when I tried to watch video content or play games.  I installed flash player and it reports being successful and appears in my applications.  However, I cannot watch videos or play games, every time I am asked to install flash player again and again and again.  I suspect this has something to do with plugins but I am not sure.  I have un-installed the program and reinstalled but it still will not work.  I check my security settings and it does allow plugins.  I erased my temporary internet files.  I don't know what else to do.  Any help would be appreciated!  This is incredibly frustrating.  Thank you

Thank you for responding!  I am using a macbook pro 2011, 2.2ghz, intel
core i7, 16gb - version 10.9.5.   I have not intentionally installed any ad
blocking software; intact I am inundated with it most times.  My online
school work required that I disable pop up blockers and all was well until
an update a few weeks ago for both security and operating system.  To the
best of my knowledge I am allowing pop ups and plugins but this may be
where the trouble is.  I am unsure, honestly of what security is running
besides what I find in the system preference/security tab.  Thank you again
for responding and any help is most appreciated.

• I have a DVD from The Best of Adobe Photoshop Elements, which requires Firefox 3.+ to opperate. I have down loaded Firefox 3.6, can get on lime but disc will not operate??

I was able to run the disc previously, a message came on to upgrade, I did and haven't been able to run since. I've installed Firefox 3.6b but can't get disc to operate. Message I now receive says to install 3.+, but not how.
Have not tried their web yet (next). (Adobe) www.photoshopelementsuser.com

Ok, let me try to explain step-by-step:
#The bookmarks are not in HTML file. This is OK. Firefox does not store the bookmarks in HTML format.
#Even if you boot the old Firefox, it will show the new bookmarks. This is also OK. You can't really do much about that.
#Uninstalling and re-installing Firefox will not solve your problem. Firefox will not see the bookmarks in the external hard drive. Please do not try this approach.
Now, to make things as simple as possible, let's try to bring all of your old bookmarks and settings into the new computer.
#Make sure that you have closed Firefox completely. This can be done by selecting File menu and then clicking on Exit.
#You said you were able to locate the Profile folder on the external hard drive, right? Just to confirm, the name of this folder is something like xxxxxxxx.default (for example, my Profile folder is named 9qnmvkea.default. Yours will be something similar).
#Double click on this folder to open it.
#Select the Edit menu and click on Select All. Select the Edit menu again and then click on Copy.
#Now, open Firefox from your new computer and follow the instructions given in this article to locate your new Profile folder: Locate your profile folder. Again, this folder would be named like xxxxxxxx.default
#Once this is done, again close Firefox by selecting File menu and then clicking on Exit.
#Double click on your new Profile folder to open it.
#Select the Edit menu and click on Paste. Windows will ask you if you want to replace existing files with same name. Select replace. Wait till all the files have been replaced.
#Open Firefox again from the new computer. Hopefully, you should see your old bookmarks now.

• I downloaded iTunes, the icon is here, but program will not come up.

I have recently upgraded my computer to Windoes 8 from Vista. I also increased RAM memory. I downloaded the iTunes program from the website. The icon shows on the desktop, but does nothing when I try to go into it. What can I do to get the program to work?

I restarted the computer, then right clicked the icon, told it to run as administrator. It came up at least, and is uploading my music library at this time. Hopefully that will be the end of my problem. I read another posting having the same problem to get this idea.

• Hamachi status reads fine but applications will not work

I have a problem with my Windows 8.1 PC not wanting to use Hamachi correctly with any 2.2.x version. It's not the software's fault, or my ISPs, or my networks, but the computer it's running on. Any connection made through hamachi results in a time out (At least according to Minecraft). The In packet loss goes to 50% while a connection is attempted. All Hamachi status indicators on both ends read green, including the diagnose option. I am a relatively technical user so if there is ANYTHING that would make the 2.2 versions not work and the 2.1 versions work then I would be willing to try it. I've done all the standard stuff like uninstall and reinstall, disabling firewalls, and disabling AV but none changed the outcome. I am very likely to have stupidly messed up some internal Windows setting, but I doubt even the devs know of their effects. Upgrading to Windows 10 might fix this and if it does I'll just thank anyone who left feedback and mark this as solved.

Same result after Windows 10 upgrade. Log reads messages similar to "sending ka because of possible rx loss, want 22, have 27"

• Ctyberlink application will not open

I have windows 8 and cyberlink application is installed, it has just stopped opening. the link is still there but it will not open

Hi nitadee,
In addition to the suggestion provided by S.Sengupta, please also try to contact cyberlink support and see if they could offer any further helpful information.
For the link will not open, do you mean when clicking on the application shortcut, it will no longer launch?
Check into Event Viewer and see if any errors related have been logged:
In the Search Box, type Event, then select
View Event logs.
