Photo Booth on Power Mac G5 using external DV camera

Hi all, I just upgraded to Leopard and I love it. One thing I'm trying to do is to run Photo Booth using firewire 400 and my camcorder Canon XH A1. I got the video going pretty much right a way, however, when I try to record I get no sound. I also had my external mic that is connected to my mac via USB turned on while recording and no result.
Can anyone recommend any solution to this?
Also, I've noticed that my photo booth does not have video backgrounds and dropped backgrounds options, like you'd see on some of the newer macs. I assume it's because I'm not an intel based machine. However, is there a work around that to get those backgrounds?
Thank you all

I love when no one replies to my posts. Thanks people.

  • How do I transfer music and photos from my Power Mac G5 to my new iMac. Have an old FireWire but it does not fit the new iMac

I am trying to transfer photos, music, etc from my Power Mac G5 to my new iMac. The Power Mac is too old for the migration assistant to help. I have an old Firewire but it does not fit the new iMac. Any suggestions? If a Firewire is the best option which one do I need? Thanks.

You need a Firewire 800 to 400 adapter or cable or a external USB 2/3 drive (self powered) it can default to the old USB the G5 uses 1 or 2.
    Format the drive info here.

  • I deleted photo booth off my Mac. It is not in the application folder, and I do not have an installer CD. Is there anything I can do?

About a year ago I deleted Photo Booth. I somehow found a link to get it back, and it worked perfectly, but when I quit Photo Booth, I lost it. I could never find the link since. I have been looking for something despretly, but I have only found answers that have said "use your install CD". I got my Mac pre-used so I did not get it with any CD. Hence, my problem. I need someone to help. Maybe post another link or something?

check your purchase tab in the app store. if it does not show up there than you will have to buy it unless there is a backup available from a disc or time machine . hope this helps.

  • Power mac g5 using itunes

I am using power mac G5 trying to play itunes tv shows however  the progress bar show that the movie is playing but there is not picture or audio.  Prior to today it was working OK.  My intent is to use the G5 as a media computer to play movies on an LG TV.  As of today the iTunes log in popup does not appear, perhaps that is the problem, but again the progress bar indicates the TV show is playing.
Can anyone help me understand what the problem may be?
I do not have much time using the G5 but at this rate it is about ready for the yard.
    Thank for helping

  • How do you download more photo booth effects on mac lion?

how do you download more photo booth effects on your macbook pro with mac lion version? Effects such as sharpen, film stock, etc.

There should be a download link on the extra special effects Photo Booth website.  If not, do a Google search for a site that has download links.

  • What motherboard form factor does the power mac g5 use?

I have an old power mac g5 case which I'd like to re purpose into my new editing pc, and I am wondering if it uses a proprietary form factor motherboard, or a standard form factor motherboard like atx, micro atx, or mini itx to know if I'd have to do some case modding or not, thanks for all replies, and I know I will need to mod the cables within the case like the power button, so no need to make note of that!  Also, I know it would take less effort just to get another case, but I'd like to work on this case.

  • Why does my Power Mac G5 use 5 times as much power after entering Sleep mode automatically as when I put it to sleep manually?

My Power Mac G5 (4 x 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5) with an Apple 17" CRT monitor, an HP LaserJet 1200 Printer and an HP4570c scanner draws approximately 200 Watts of electrical power after entering the "Sleep" mode automatically, but only 41 Watts of electrical power if I put it to sleep manually.
I have tried changing the Energy Saver preferences in every way that I can think of, with no effect.
    What am I doing wrong?

Hmm, 159 Watt diff, that's interesting, can't picture Hard Drives using that much, can you disconnect one devie at a time to test it's not them?

  • I am looking to purchase a monitor for a Power Mac G4 OR a Web cam that is compatible with the the Power Mac G4.

I have a G4 Power Mac without the original monitor - I am using a monitor from a PC that does not have a built in webcam. I have also tried a "Blue" brand webcam that was received as a gift for me that does not work...and went to best buy to buy a compatable one and they had none that they thought would work w/ the G4 power mac  What are my options? Ideally the cheapest would be a compatable webcam. any thoughts/suggestions? or thoughts about where to get a replacement original monitor.
    thanks!

    HI,
    ON the cam front.
The OS will support UVC compliant camera (USB Video Class) since 10.4.9  in iChat (Slightly earlier in other apps)
The issue for older G4 macs is that these are always USB 2.0 cameras (Used to be marked "Vista Ready" or "Certified" as Windows went USB 2.0 about the same time).
I have a G4/1ghz Dual Processor tower (So called Mirrored Doors)
This can have extra PCI cards and have installed one with 4 USB 2.0 ports  (Remove blank, insert and secure with screw and away it went)
Nowadays virtually any USB webcam will be UVC compliant and USB 2.0  (Meaning no Windows or Mac Drivers to download and Install)
The abilities of the Drivers in the OS do vary between Windows and Macs of this age.  (Lion on Intels does bring face tracking).
Anyways, once you solve the USB 2.0 input issue then virtually any USB 2.0 camera will work including the X-Box 360 cam or a PalyStation 3 one
    Firewire
The Original External iSight was of course Firewire.
There were a number of other around the same time (Until USB cameras took over).
This means that some DV convertors that use Firewire to get Analogue CamCorders signals into a Mac will work (some digital camcorders may not produce a DV signal as such and will need a convertor)
The camera may have options on it's playback that mean it can be in 4:3 ratio if used with iChat.  It also cannot be HDV (or any propriatary form)  (You have to have an Intel and Lion/iChat 6 for HD).
Of course some DV camcorders  do use Firewire to connect to a computer  (although this has dropped off as USB 2.0 is actually slightly faster)
iMovie will accept many more formats than iChat will but you were talking about Web Cams.
    NOTES
You may find sites still trading the external iSight.  They are going to be at least 8 years old now and you will need to check so how that they are working
    USB 1.1
If you can find a USB 1.1 Camera for sale or tucked in a drawer  it will need two things:-
    1) A Mac Driver
    2) This Utility for iChat http://www.ecamm.com/mac/iusbcam/
Some manufacturers did have web sites with Downloads.
The Camera Guide page at Ecamm shows the links to two third Party Drivers from macam and IOXperts.
You will note the first Ecamm page says that iUSBCam does not work in Snow Leopard but you specs do say you are using Leopard (10.5)
    Back to Screens
My tower has a card that supports two monitors.
The one I bought with my Tower was the Studio Display (Same Acrylic type surround to the screen as the Tower).  (It does have USB 1.1 ports on the back)
This used the then Apple Display Connector (ADC)
It also had a DVI output.
Ergo any DVI Screen will work.
As to whether a  DVI screen/display with a camera can use that DVI connector to feed the Camera to the Mac I don't know.

  • Using External iSight camera instead of built-in with iMovie

I have a MacBook Pro with built in iSight as well as an external iSight camera. I want to shoot some instructional knitting videos with the external camera, holding it over the shoulder of the knitting instructor while she discusses what she is doing. When I go to iMovie, I only see the option of using my built-in iSight. How can I work around this and use the external camera? Thanks for your help with this!

    Welcome to Discussions,
Your external iSight must be connected and turned on before it can work with iMovie.
You can test whether your external iSight is working by using the suggestions here:
      http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage4.html
When your external iSight is working, you can select it as explained in this iMovie Help article:

  • Using external isight camera with imac intel

is there a procedure to use my 'old' portable isight camera with my new imac intel?

i did some tests and here's how is is done:
plug in the FW external isight camera; open SKYPE and prior to calling on SKYPE; go to preferences.; go to 'video' and there NOW two selections 'built-in isight' and 'isight'; select 'isight' and that will be the camera you will using once you make the SKYPE call; HOWEVER if you want to switch back to the 'built-in isight' you have to 'hang up'; go back to preferences and select 'built-in isight' and re-make the call. BTW Apple care in the far far east was next to no help. maybe apple care will read this post and then THEY TOO will have the answer.

  • Use external isight camera instead of built-in isight

Is it possible to have an external isight camera be default instead of the built-in camera at the top of the monitor?  I'd like to use the external camera, which is more portable than the monitor, with such programs as Skype, but -(on Skype at least) I'm not given the option to choose anything except the built-in iSight cam.  Can the external iSight be the default cam?
    Thanks.

Not to sure if an external webcam (iSight) can be the "default" webcam.  Usually, the video app gives you choices of which webcam to use.

    Hi!
Does the drive appear in the System Profiler? If not, you might try removing the drive from the enclosure and check if the Mac "sees" the device when mounted internally.
You might boot to your OS 9 install disk and try using Drive Setup to erase/initialize/zero the drive, too.
I suspect that DiskWarrior might not be able to see the drive either. You may be able to connect it to a PC, which won't recognize the Mac format and may give you the opportunity to initialize the drive. If this is the case, initialize it in PC format, then connect it to the G4, which should enable you to re-initialize it using Mac OS Extended. If this is successful, then use the Erase option to write zeros to the drive and you should have a clean drive again.
