Photo Booth & Preview Fail to Open

All,
I have noticed that Photo Booth and Preview have stopped working. When I try and open them they both bouncy in the Dock once and then stop. I get no errors or crash reports. Plain and simply refuse to open. If I want to view any images I need to use other programs.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Matt

You need to post this on the Using Mac OS X forum for the version of the OS that you have. Can't point you more specifically as you don;t say what OS you have.

  • Photo booth again fails after Update of System

A few months ago I found my Photo Booth stopped showing a camera picture after I upgraded with a System Update but then cured the problem after a simple Reboot.
Well the photo booth has again failed to operate following a recent Update of the OS and all I get is a blank screen. This time it won't kick start after a re boot. Is there any way to find out why it won't switch on its internal camera and cure it for good.
The saved snapshots will show in the photo booth but it's simply the "live" picture that won't work.
There is plenty of daylight in the room so it shouldn't be just a black screen should it?
    Thanks

I think I can pull this question off now. The system has wrong-footed me again.
It seems to be that when you have too many computers all calling upon the same wireless broadband connection in the one building, the DNS or something gets choked.
I switched off the router the modem the wireless and the main desktop pc
I then rebooted them all. After it was all up and running I turned on the MacBook and connected via the usual AirPort and both Google Earth and PhotoBooth were running as sweet as a nut.
It seems all too easy to think the Macbook has got itself in a twist when in fact it's just responding to a tired and emotional broadband connection that has lost its bandwidth due to over crowded usage.
    I'll close this question now.
    Sorry to alert anyone.

  • Photo booth flash fails in Maverick

Since upgrading to Maverick the flash of Photo Booth flashes without result. All pcitures stay dark! Does anyone know why?

In case anyone is interested in your screen flash not working in the Yosemite or Maverick photo booth application, I finally called Apple today and he kept insisting it was working on his - I asked him to take a pic with the screen flash enabled and then disable it and he said it came out the same. And rationalized that it was because he was in a well lit room. I kept telling him in my old photo booth from system 10.6.8 that my face was lit up and my husband had reflections from his glasses so we went from him wanting me to reinstall my software (I refused since both computers were having the same problem - one using Yosemite and the other using Maverick)  to him finally going into HIS partitioned disk that has system 10.6.8 on it to discover that the flash there reflected off HIS glasses too. Bottom line is he admitted there has to be some flaw that prevented the photo booth flash from working for Maverick and Yosemite. Whew, finally validation!

  • Preview failed to open a PDF

I just D/L'd the SDK for UPS, and the PDFs require Adobe 9.x+ They won't open in Preview. I just get a single page stating such with a link (I think) to get Adobe Reader.
I did open it in Adobe Pro 8.0, but saving/printing doesn't help.
(It is a 'secure' file by Adobe Pro's view)
I'm kinda blown away. Its the first time I couldn't read a PDF in Preview. Sure I've been blocked from printing a few, but could always read 'em.
I love PDFs and Preview, but rather not deal with the bloated Adobe Reader (or pro) just to read a PDF. They take too long to open.
Yes I know its more a UPS issue and not an Apple, but.....

Some software developers write it so you don't have a choice and must view it with Adobe - there isn't anything you can do about it. I don't like it either, but have it nevertheless so on the (very few) occasions that I do need to use it, I can. Now, what I've been able to do sometimes is after I've looked at it, I highlight the icon and do a get info (Command + I) and then change it to be opened with Preview. Most of the time that has worked.

  • Preview fails to open PDF files in Safari

Can anyone tell me why Preview will not now open PDFfiles inside Safari? I used to have Adobe PDF installed to open all PDF files but I have since removed it in preference to Preview. Preview opens all other PDF files just fine but it seems unable to work with Safari... weird!

Go to /Library/Internet Plug-ins and remove anything that ends in pdf

  • Preview fails to open a file that Adobe Reader will open

I get statements from Wells Fargo downloaded with filenames like session5.cgi. If I double click them, they open just fine in Adobe Reader. But if I control-click and specify Preview as the application, then nothing happens and the fie is not opened.
I prefer using Preview for everything I can, and would like to avoid using Adobe Reader. Can anyone figure out why i can't?

Thanks. I knew that would work. But I am asking (I guess) why using control-click and choosing Preview doesn't. I notice that preview isn't included in Recommended Applications, but that is understandable given the suffix .cgi.
When I use the ctnl-click, Preview immediately becomes the active applicaiton (it's already runing), but then nothing happens, and it continures to display the file it was displaying before i did all this.

  • MacBook Pro freezes when Photo Booth is opened.

I have a MacBook Pro, purchased June 2008, and have always had a problem with Photo Booth. When I open the program it captures an initial image, but then freezes for 15 seconds up to a few minutes. When it finally unfreezes, every program runs slows while Photo Booth is open and even a few minutes after it's been closed. I have no other problems with my iSight while using Skype, iChat or any web-based video applications. I've tried closing all other programs before using Photo Booth, but that has no effect on the freezing. It freezes even after a restart. I've checked the activity monitor and when the program is opened and freezing the CPU usage is anywhere between 75 and 99%, then it hovers around 25%. Any ideas on what I could do to stop this annoying freezing would be greatly appreciated.

  • Photo Booth freezing/crashing Mavericks OS. How can I fix this?

I downloaded Mavericks via Apple on November 5.  Before installing it I made sure my Mac system was totally functional: ran disk repairs, checked if I had installed apps that wouldn't run in Mavericks, etc. Everything went well during installation, and I was able to use my laptop for two days UP UNTIL I tried to use Photo Booth! I got a message that Photo Booth was gathering my images (presumably to move it to a new location based on new configuration of Mavericks), and there was also a progress bar. Suddenly I realized that the progress bar would not advance and that my MacBook Pro (mid 2007) had frozen. I restarted it, only to have it freeze upon startup.  I tried resetting the PRAM, and that only allowed me to make it to the desktop, but with no visible hard drive on my desktop, no dock at all, and I couldn't access any of the menus in the Finder window, not even to restart or shut down. Then I tried several options:
Hard reset and tried to boot in safe mode. NOTHING. It was just impossible to safe boot it. At times I'd get up to half of the progress bar and then it'd freeze. Hard reset Command + S
    Hard reset Command + V
Hard reset and reset the PRAM again, etc.
Eventually I'd  make it to the desktop, the dock would show up, also the files on my desktop, but it'd not take longer to freeze again. It was all very odd because there was always a point when it'll would just freeze.
Then I decided to try Command + R to repair disks. I Verified and repaired the discs. Then I restarted, and it froze. I decided to reinstall the OS through the Recovery mode screen. I did it. No success the problem persisted. I redid all this last steps again: Command + R, verify/repair disks, reinstall OS X. Once completed: MBP froze. The whole process was so time consuming that I gave up and just turned off my computer. The next day I was able to turn my computer on with success. Some of the folders that were open before the Photo Booth crash were on open. I closed everything and turned my MPB off using the Finder menu. Then I turned it on again, and once I got to the desktop and found no folders open, and I reopen Safari because I remember I was using it before opening Photo Booth. To my surprise it opened and all the pages I was visiting before the crash were there as if Safari resumed just how it was before the crash. I turned it all off again using the Finder menu. I was wondering if those Safari and the folders that were left open were for some reason conflicting with the system's start up. Then I turned it on again and this time I proceed to work with my computer but not before verifying/repairing the disks through the System Preferences menu.
Everything went well. Later that day I decided to open Photo Booth to see if it'd work smoothly. It didn't open very smoothly but I was able to play around with it for a while. I turned it off and everything was great. The system was a little slower than what I was used to but I guessed it's because Mavericks demands a more advanced hardware. Then the next day the problem restarted!!! I was able to get to my desktop normally and decided to open Photo Booth to complete the task I wanted it to use it on the day of the first freeze/crash. And it froze my computer and it all restarted. This time, even redoing all the steps and even after reinstalling the system 3 times, I still can't get my computer to work. But at least one thing I know: this problems is being caused by Photo Booth! I'm desperate and I don't want to format and do a clean install because I will lose some important files. Does any of you have ANY idea of what's going on and what can I do to fix this? It's unnerving to have it fixed once (not knowing how) and suddenly find myself dealing with the same problem again!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report — they're very long and not helpful.

  • No image when using Photo Booth

  • Photo Booth photos look big but are only 66K?

I took a picture using the photo booth and when I open it, it looks big and clear. But when I try to upload it, or get any info from it, it's so small and it says that it says 66 kb. What's going on?

Some uploaders actually analyze the meta tags for the "reported" resolution of the image file. Even if the GUI (what you see on screen) shows it properly, some systems do not.
Some document imaging systems actually include overrides to get around this type of behavior, but usually it means the app you used to process/import the image did not export properly.

  • Photo Booth quits Unexpectedly when trying to access pages 3 or 4 of effect

So I have had this problem for a few months. Originally, Photo Booth wouldn't even open up until I removed all the photos and movies taken and placed them into a separate file folder.
My daughter likes to use the program for little video performances, and the effects make it a bit more fun. So what is a dad to do? Only pages 1 and 2 work in the way of allowing effects, while pages 3 and 4 aren't even accessible, and the program shuts down trying to access them. I have tried to search via other threads, and read other challenges, but mine seems a bit unique.....maybe not however.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.PhotoBooth.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.

  • Photo Booth Black Screen

Hey guys, my photo booth preview screen started to show a black screen and when I try to take a picture, it counts down and my preview screen starts to show normally. So I can take picture normally. When I delete the Recent.plist file everything works fine but I don't want to lose the pictures in the strip. I tried to resetting SMC but no difference.

You have posted this in the wrong forum, this is for Front Row NOT Photo Booth.
You may get more answers if you post to the right forum.
