Photo Booth Recording Movie Stutter & Unintentional Stops

I'm trying to record video with my Photo Booth and when I press record, the sound that makes a click right after the last second of the countdown stutters about four times and then begins to record. Even if I record two minutes or so, when the video is stopped by me, about one second is recorded, sometimes 4 seconds. What's the deal?

You can record video with Photo Booth?

theres like a 5 second delay from when i say something to when the sound of my voice actually comes in when i play back movies in photobooth.i tried restarting my computer and even turning on *auto flip new items. when i turn that on the problem is fixed for only one video. when i try to record the next one its back to the delay. is there anyway to trouble shoot this? or do i have to take my mac to the apple store. to top it all off ive only had my computer for 5 days. help please !!!!

I had the same problem since my moutain lion update, too.
I fixed it in the following way.
-Search for utilities on the HELP option on the top taskbar
    - Go to utilities and open your audio-midi-setup.
    - check your input and output properties
    - Change input and output 44100khz and 16-BIT for both.(these are the most common properties)

  • Mac Book Pro 13" LPTP-Photo Booth Recorded Video File won't find my video/movie that I recently recorded from Sun 9-1-13. Is there a way I can retrieve the files under the Time Machine or will I need to download something for iPhoto Booth?

I have been having the most difficult times with the use of iPhoto Booth for recording movie files of church services. It seems if I make a rename on the files, for some odd reason, I cannot find it in any of my Files Folders in Finder. I need to know is there a more simple way to retrieve movie files thru iPhoto Booth or is there something I may can download to fix this issue? Also, is there a way the videos can be flipped around to not a mirror image, but to a reverse camera? Please anyone who recognizes this problem, contact me ASAP. Thank you for your support!

You used the data.  Verizon can not see what it was sued for.  However your phone can see whats apps used the data.  go to settings-data usage- there will be a place that says data usage cycle.  line the dates up with your cycle.  then there will be a bar graph below that   extend bother white bars one all the way to the left and one all the way to the right.  after those are extended below that will be a list of apps,  there should be one that used over 2 gb and that will show you what app used that data in her purse

  • Photo Booth Recording

i just bought a macbook so bare with me. When you use photo booth, isn't the video recording suppose to last longer then 30 seconds? i was dancing around acting silly, and i used photo booth video, i checked back and it cut off after 30 seconds. Also how do you stop the screen from going dark, or automatically going to sleep when you dont use it for more than 2 minutes? Its very annoying when i am watching or movie or reading stuff.

Hello janet4625, Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Photo Both is for a quick photo, and not much for video.
If you would like to capture video, open iMovie and click the icon that looks like a video camera or hit command + I. You can then capture hours of video!
"Also how do you stop the screen from going dark"...
Go to the Applications folder and open "System Preferences" ---> click on "Energy Saver" ---> click on the "Options" tab ---> and deselect "Automatically reduce the brightness before sleep".
    Hope this helps!

  • No video with photo booth recording

while using the waterfall or beach scene, After approx. the 4th movie that I record, the video and audio begin to get out of sync and maybe 2-3 more video later, I start getting video with nothing on it. Sometimes the video began freezing up. I usually quit PB and restart, getting 2-3 good short movie about 20-30 secs long, before the problem re-occurs. C
    Any suggestion?
    Austin

    Hello Austin.
How do you know when it saved?
Another of Photo Booth's limitations. I do not see anything in Photo Booth that guarantees when a save is complete.
You may be able to hear when your hard disk stops writing. If you cannot hear it, just don't be in a hurry. Wait until the movie clip Thumbnails has finished settling into the tray at the bottom of the Photo Booth window. Then give it about five more seconds to allow the disk write to finish before starting the next recording.
If waiting five extra seconds does not help, try an additional ten seconds to see if a longer wait improves things for you.
Can imovie use the background drop?
No. The "background drop" is a feature of Photo Booth. That feature is actually a "recipe" for a video technique called "compositing" or "chroma key."
iMovie 6 HD can produce composites by using blue and green screen effects and the appropriate third-party plugins to edit video clips after the video clips have been captured.  I do not know a way to do this with iMovie 7.x (sometimes called iMovie '08).
A Google search for iMovie blue and green screen effects will lead you to this tutorial and many other sources that you may find helpful.
If you already have Apple's Final Cut Express or Final Cut Studio, the chroma key feature is built into both of them.

  • Anyone know where the Photo booth "effects" movies are hidden?

Curious where the original "effects" clips (the fish, the rollercoaster, etc.) for the Photo booth app are hidden in Leopard...

I could not find a reference to the individual files, but it would seem to be a .qtz file inside the Photo Booth.app. You can right-click or control-click on the Photo Booth.app and choose "Show Package Contents". Inside the Photo Booth.app, there is a /Contents/Resources/ folder. This seems to be where some of the effects live.

  • Photo Booth has stopped recording Videos all of a sudden??

    Hi all,
on my iMac only 6 months old, all of a sudden after working fine Photo Booth today has decided to stop recording videos.
The app launches, green light comes on and the picture/video shows, i press record and it counts down but the counter doesnt move although the picture is still there.
Press stop and it loads a black screen and plonks it in the library thing at the bottom of the picture..  Very odd.
I have trashed the Preferences and this does nothing,
Have deleted the other videos so its not a space issue?
Wondering if anyone else has the same thing???
    Any help greatly accepted,,
    Many thanks

Does anyone know where you can get a version of Photobooth? I didnt have any disks of the OSX lion that shipped with my iMac?

  • Photo booth only records partial Video no matter how long it is...Help!!

ok so i wanted to make a funny video to send to my friend. I turned on Photo booth, chose the video option, and hit record. I proceeded to completely embarrass myself on camera for about 5 mins, and i clicked stop. When it stopped, only like the 1st 18 secs were recorded. I thought maybe i clicked stop on accident, so i tried it again, and it was the same problem.. is anyone else having this problem? if so is there a solution for it? please help...thanks

Welcome to Apple Discussions, C Dot MooDy
is anyone else having this problem?
I have not seen any specific post of exactly your problem, but a few users have posted questions about how long Photo Booth can record, so they might be asking about a similar issue.
For instance, a search of iSight discussions about known Photo Booth recording time limit:
      http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1450644&tstart=50
if so is there a solution for it?
For a solution, consider the same suggestions I offered in the topic linked above:
    (1) Be sure you are keeping Photo Booth (PB) as the foreground app; i.e., you can always see "Photo Booth" by the  in the upper left corner of your display. Don't click on the desktop or any other open window while recording. Recording stops on my Mac if PB is not the active app.
    (2) Other things that might be contributing to your problem:
    • Don't let your Mac go to sleep or allow its screen saver to work while you are recording.
    • Check and, if necessary, modify settings of background apps that might be interrupting your Mac during your PB movie recording. Examples would include Mail checking for new email, iCal executing an alarm, your Software Update... performing its scheduled check for software updates.
I do not know that one of those might be your problem, but if you can find no other cause, and if you must record long clips with PB, consider any of those ideas you think they might have an impact.
    (3) Also consider these suggestions If your Macbook runs slowly or exhibits any other problems in addition to your PB issue.
    (4) If all else fails, you might try iMovie to see if it works better for recording longer movie clips on your Macbook. While not a one-click app like PB, iMovie HD can add Video FX (Effects) after you have recorded your clip. If you cannot get PB working, iMovie might be worth considering as an alternative.
    (5) If you would rather not use iMovie, perhaps a PB clone application like WebcamTweaker or Freak Show will work for what you want.
Please let us know how it goes.

  • Annoying Photo booth/ iSight problems

I often record videos using photo booth. and today....
The videos cut out before i pressed stop. They lasted about 37 seconds and then just cut out randomly, when i was recording however, it say it was still recording and ive set it so my screen doesnt dim withing 30 minutes whenever im recording.
And then when it finaly fracking worked, the ONE THAT ACTUALLY WORKED had no sound!!!! the other ones had sound, but stupid mic just decided not to work?
The only programs running was photo booth and the always running finder.
    < Edited by Host >

    Some ideas you can consider:
    (1) Your system info shows Mac OS X (10.5.6)
If this is correct, use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions. Then download and install the latest version of Leopard:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/DL866
Immediately after the restart that completes the update, repair permissions again. Then test to see if the problem is resolved.
    (2) Verify that you are not clicking anywhere outside the Photo Booth window while recording. When running Photo Booth in Mac OS X 10.5.x on my G5 Mac, Photo Booth immediately stops recording unless its recording is the currently active window.
(For other readers, Snow&Leopard Photo Booth does NOT stop even if its window is not the active one.)
    (3) Test recording with iMovie and QuickTime Pro if you have it to see if they also quit early.
If apps other than Photo Booth record properly but you do not want to use one of those that work properly, it is possible that a corrupted Photo Booth Preferences file is causing your problem. Quit Photo Booth (and all other applications) and throw away the Photo Booth Preferences file (com.apple.photobooth.plist) from your Home / Library / Preferences folder. A new preferences folder will be generated when you restart Photo Booth to test whether it works now.
    (4) If resetting preferences did not help but you still want to use Photo Booth, reinstalling the Photo Booth app might help.
    (5) You might also see if any of the suggestions here help you:

  • How does photo booth's virtual background work?

I noticed that in the Photo Booth's virtual background mode, the iSight's exposure is locked. I can imagine it will be really hard without locking the exposure to be able to substitute the background with a video. I am using the builtin USB iSight, so there has to be a way to disable the internal auto-exposure feature. I looked into the QTKit, but couldn't find anything. I also looked into IIDC stuff, but it seems it works for firewire iSight only.
Could anyone explain a bit more on how to lock the exposure of the internal USB iSight?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
So...  a Mac Mini with an External Logitech camera using Photo Booth with Backdrops and Effects and then selecting a Backdrop option.
The Messages should come up from as long as Photo Booth detects movement.
If you stop partially out of the pic that portion of you may display in an odd fashion.
I presume you are saying that Photo Booth is not giving you time to move out of the Frame.
From there I presume you get this sort of thing
    Uploaded with Skitch!
It might pay to delete the com.apple.PhotoBooth.plist
I can't see this holds a timing item in it but some standard settings don't show when using Property List Editor.
Have the Finder as the "Front" App
    Use th Go Menu
Whilst in Drop down hold the ALT key
    Select the Library that appears
    In there open Preferences
Find the listed .plist and drag it to the Trash
    Restart Photo Booth.

  • ISight - Photo Booth stops recording silently when recording video.

    Hello,
I often use iSight and Photo Booth to record videos, and I've observed this error happens all the times:
For example I record a 5 minutes video, (I stop Photo Booth at the time 5:00), but then when I look again at the file, it's less than 5 minutes. This happens 8 out of 10 times of recording, and it stops silently at a random time, means photo booth does not return to the waiting mode until I press the stop button.
Does anyone have this problem? Please help. Thanks in advance.

I must agree I am having a very similar problem myself. In my case, for example, I use photobooth to record videos requiring audio and video (acoustic guitar) and I will record one video which will be fine with audio, but randomly, the next video I record will not have any audio whatsoever, just a video of me playing my guitar. I'm sure other people with this problem know how frustrating it is, especially since I just tried to record an instrumental piece about 13 minutes only to find that photobooth randomly decided not to record audio this time....is there any solution for this?

  • Why does photo booth stop recording video randomly

Im trying to record short videos using photobooth about 3 mins long.  but when i record.  more than half the time  it will say that it is recording the whole thing
but when i stop the recording, only about fraction of what i wanted will be there.
Ex. i just recorded about 3m 30sec of video...and when i stopped it....only 32 seconds of video was recorded.....
    Why is this happening?

  • Can't record (movie) Photo Booth Background scenarios

Here it goes, I open Photo Booth, select a background effect like paris or the waterfall, Photo Booth tells me to leave the screen area, I leave, come back, everything works fine. It's like I'm in the location I just picked. If I take a picture, it works too. But when I select to record a movie, the light on my Macbook's camera goes off for a second, and when it starts recording, the Paris backrgound disappears! It shows the real background behind me!
This started happening when upgraded to Lion. Actually, I only used it yesterday, and that was after (2 weeks) I updated to Lion 10.7.2, so maybe this update is somehow doing this.
I don't think the problem is my camera, because all the effects work. It just happens the moment it starts recording.

I found a little workaround, I open quicktime and select to record the screen. So I open Photo Booth and select the animated background I want. It works, because my problem is recording. The background effect works. I can take a picture with no problem. Oh, you have to also select (on quicktime) to record audio, it records through the built in mic. The only problem, is that the image seems darker when I select the animated beackground. With regular effects, like "the birds" the image is very bright and colorful.

  • Photo Booth movie length

I've tried several times to create movies in Photo Booth. I recently just tried to make one that I thought was recorded for three minutes. When I pressed the stop button only 1minute 7 seconds of it was recorded. How do I change this? Thanks.

Seems to be a bug in Photo Booth....

  • Photo Booth froze while recording video and did not save

    Hi-
I was in the middle of recording a video on Photo Booth for a school project. Before you go any further- I now know that I should have used iMovie or Quick Time to record, but I was having the same problem with freezing/lagging video. So I decided on using Photo Booth because it is what I am most familiar with.
It was about a 20 minute video and I noticed that the picture would freeze every so often, even right after I began recording, so I know it is not a size issue. I also do not have anything in my Photo Booth tray or library, so I know I have enough space.
Here's my issue: I pressed stop when I was done recording. But I got the infamous "spinning wheel of death." It didn't go away, even after 10 minutes so I force quit. I have located the recording in Finder. It says the name of the video, and the size, but the thumbnail is just the default QuickTime icon, not an icon.
How do I recover this? It's extremely important that I do. Hoping EZ Jim will respond!  Thank you so much in advance.
    I am using a MacBook Pro 13" from 2011.

l_kleiman wrote: ... I should have used iMovie or Quick Time to record...
Yes, you should have.  Do so in future recordings that are important or longer than a couple of minutes.
l_kleiman wrote:... the picture would freeze every so often,...
Because your problem is the same with all three video recording applications, we can rule out application software as the cause of your trouble.  Here are some possible causes and what you can do to try to solve them:
    (1) Video recording is processor intensive.  If you are also running many more apps than only the video app while you are recording, your Mac's processor may be working near its limit.
Restarting your Mac before recording video ensures you will not have interference from multiple user accounts or widgets (unless they are included as  > System Preferences... > Account > Login iTems.
Remember that things like widgets and automatic checks for Mail, TimeMachine backups, iCal alarms, etc., and other background activities also add to your Mac's workload. The actions for the apps mentioned (and for most other such apps) can be disabled in "Preferences" for the apps that control them.
Disconnect all peripherals while you are recording video, and make your record monitoring window as small as possible. These suggestions help reduce processor power requirements while recording.
    (2) Installing the maximum amount of RAM your MBP can use may help you. Your retailer can help you check what you have and install more if necessary.
    (3) Alternatively, the cause of your symptoms May lie in your system software.
Consider the information in OS X Mountain Lion: If your Mac runs slowly.  It applies equally to your OS X Lion system.
If you are not already running the latest Lion version, apply the OS X Lion Update 10.7.5 (Client Combo) update.)
l_kleiman wrote:... the picture would freeze ... even right after I began recording, so I know it is not a size issue. I also do not have anything in my Photo Booth tray or library, so I know I have enough space...
Neither freeze timing nor Photo Booth tray or library space tells you whether your startup disk has enough free ("Available") space for best operation.
Use your Mac's Finder > File > Get Info menu command to check available free space.  Be sure you have LOTS of room (I keep 75% of my disk space free when recording video) on your MBP's disk.
Capture your movie clips on your MBP's startup disk rather than on an external drive which is almost certainly slower.
l_kleiman wrote:... when I was done recording... I force quit... but the thumbnail is ...not an icon.  How do I recover this?...
If something here doesn't work, http://bit.ly/1An6zjD, your only remedy it to record the video again.
l_kleiman wrote:... Thank you so much in advance...
You're welcome.  If you need to post back for other suggestions, please tell us the following:
    0. What Lion version number you are using? You can find the version with the  > About This Mac menu command.
    1. Are you recording your video subjects in bright lighting?
    2. Did your Mac ever record video properly? If so, what happened immediately before the problem first appeared? (new software, hardware, etc?)
    3. How much free space is "Available" on your startup disk?
    4. How much RAM is installed in your Mac?
    5. If you added RAM, what brand (Apple, Crucial, Other World, etc.) did you install?
    6. Have you used Apple Hardware Test to verify your RAM is all working?  (If you don't know how to use AHT, see your MBP's User Guide.)
We will offer more specific suggestions based on the details in your response.
