Photo Collage Software

Has anyone had experience with Photo Collage Software programs? I have created collages in the various Adobe programs placing each photo and lining them all up but I am looking for a way to do a quick, drag and drop.
With that in mind, since I'm not a PhotoShop Pro, can a template be made where you can select (or drop on) a background, and have other "containers" you could drop photos into and then send to a photo processor for an 8x10, 11x14, or 16x20 output?
If this can be created in PhotoShop it would save time and $'s. I just need some hints to begin achieving it. Or should I take this query to the InDesign forum?

If you are interested in a simple app that creates a collage at a click of a button, you could download the trial version of Microsoft AutoCollage http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/cambridge/projects/autocollage/Download.aspx. This program takes the pictures in the folder that you specify, shuffles them and creates an automatic collage. If you don't like the way the pics are distributed you just click on the Create button again and the pics are shuffled again. You might have to click up to 10 times before you get something you like, but it only takes seconds and it's fun to watch. The app has facial recognition, but you can also manually circle the part of the picture which needs to be protected (not cut off or covered by another pic in the collage). I made a quick example with 8 standard desktop wallpaper photos. As I said, this app is only if you don't need to have full control over the collage.

Photo collage software from itunes CD collection

Hi there,
I would like to make a photo collage (either 3x3 or 4x4 or 5x5 ie to form a square) of cd covers from my itunes collection.
Can anyone in the community recommend a free software to do the aforementioned, please? It doesn't need to do fancy stuff, just to be able to stick the covers next to each other and be able to save as .jpg.

I'm afraid that my iTunes is not recognising the iPod. Nor is the Updater. I have never previously plugged this iPod (or any iPod) into my home PC. I need the software from the CD to allow iTunes to see it, I think.
(Internet Explorer can see the iPod but only as another disc drive as I chose to manage my songs myself)

PSE 6.0 will not display photo collage theme or layout

I just purchased PSE 6.0 for imac on Tues. I would like to use the photo collage option, but zero options work. I installed it/uninstalled it and it still did not fix it. It is in the process of downloading ADOBE BRIDGE CS3 WITH START MEETING 1.0.1. I have waiting a day and a half for it to update, it will not finish the update.
I have also called apple icare for support and they troubleshot everything and have determined that it is a software problem.
Please help. I have photos to finish.

First thing to try: quit PSE, then go to your hard drive>library>application support>Adobe>Photoshop Elements>6.0>Locale>en_US (that will be different if you aren't in the US) and delete mediaDatabase.db3. In the Photoshop Elements>6.0 folder level, also delete ThumbDatabase.db3. Note that these files are in the library folder at the top level of your hard drive, NOT in system>library or your username>library.
Repair permissions and relaunch PSE. Let it sit for a few minutes without using the program to give the database time to rebuild. You can try once you see the icons appear in the Effects palette.

Creating photo collage

I'd like to make a photo collage that builds one photo at a time from a black screen up to five or six pictures total. I'd also like to add captions on top of or beside these photos. Can I do this in iMovie? If not, is there other software that would be better for the job. mtj3kram

Hi, and welcome!
I can think of two ways of doing this - correction, trying to do this!
One is to create each frame in Photoshop or Illustrator, saving them as a jpeg, and importing them into iMovie, frame by frame, which would 'animate' them.
Alternatively, you can do all or part of this in Quicktime Pro, where you can superimpose as many stills of movies as you want on to a single movie. What follows might, techically speaking, work for you:
Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin!
Organise the video clips and/or stills that you want to superimpose on to your main video clip, by having these in separate, individual iMovie projects (no matter how small). It helps if these are in the exact length/time you want later.
Now start with the clip in your iMovie project on to which you want to superimpose one of more smaller video clips or stills. Lets call it Main Clip. Export this (share) to Quicktime Pro in DV (full quality). make sure it has the same aspect as before (Quicktime tends to default to 4:3. If you want 16:9, read on).
In Quicktime, with this project open, select File ~ Open File. Select the iMovie file (in your movies folder) of the first clip/still you want superimposed. This will open in its own QT window. Select Edit ~ copy. If it is a movie clip then select all ~ copy (or you will only get one frame!). Switch back to the Main Clip window, and click in the scroll bar where you want the extra clip/still to appear. Choose Edit ~ Add to Movie.
You can repeat this as many times as you like, if you want to build a 'Video Wall', i.e. have several superimposed clips/stills on the same Main Clip.
Do not worry that the new clip overlaps or covers up the Main Clip, at this stage.
Choose Window ~ Show Movie Properties. The Properties Dialogue appears.
You will see a list of video (and audio) tracks. Track one will be the Main Clip, track 2 your new added (superimposed) clip. Click track 2, then click visual settings. From the Scaled Size pop-op menu, choose percent. Then type 50 into the first box. If Preserve Aspect Ratio is turned on you won't need to type 50 into the second box. You have made the pasted footage appear at one quarter its original size. The inset is now hugging the top-left corner of the Main Clip. If you want, you can type numbers into the Offset Boxes to shove it away from that corner (there are 72 pixels to the inch).
If your original Main Clip was required in 16:9, unclick (de-select) Preserve Aspect Ratio, and type in 1920 in the first box, and 1080 in the second, in Video Track 1. This will not affect video track 2, but if that is also wanred in 16:9 repeat for that track.
You can superimpose, 3, 4, or more such 'overlaps' on the same clip, and spend a happy afternoon tapping away for each track in the Offset Boxes until you have got them all in the right place! You can even overlap them, if you can remember (or note down - hire a secretary to take notes) which track you want on top etc.
Save the completed QT file. Import the completed file into a new iMovie project. Import this into the original iMovie project, substituting the old clip you copied to QT as Main Clip for the new fancy clip you have made.
You will probably need to experiment a bit with the above. I know, it took me two days to master it the first time. Result: in the Wedding Video I made, during the Best Man's speech, he is relating a story about his brother (the groom) breaking his surfboard in half and swearing at the Atlantic Ocean whilst hitting it with his broken surfboard. While he is saying all that a superimposed video appears of the groom doing exactly that - a video I took 14 years previously! Moreover, the wedding video is in 16:9, but the inset clip is in its original 4:3 aspect!

Problems creating photo collage

I have been trying to create a photo collage in Elements 9 when I click "photo collage" I get an error message "Valid size not available for this creation" Does anyone know what this means? Can anyone tell me how to get around this and open a photo collage?

This is a known bug in the software.

Try the collage print project in HP Photo Creations. You can add up to 60 photos to a page and resize them as a group. HP Photo Creations is a free download at www.hp.com/go/hppc.
Click the Design Tools and then the Photo Layouts tabs to explore different arrangements. This example shows an overlapping arrangement with photo borders on a textured background. The program offers thousands of background styles. You may want to try Plain White or Plain Black to begin.

Why is my photo collage not saving correctly?

I have only just got PSE 9, and am enjoying all the things you can do with it, so I thought I would try to make a photo collage for my family. I watched the video and it seemed straightforward enough, and I have made the collage. However, when I go to save it, although it appeas in the organiser, you cannot see a preview of the picture. All you see is a what I can only describe as a torn picture frame with one corner turned up. I can double click on the image in finder n my mac, and it will open the collage perfectly. I can also save it as a jpeg, and view it in preview. I want to order the print, so that I can get it a bigger size, but when I select it, it does not recognise the file type, either as a photoshop file or as jpeg. I also tried finding it using a jessops application that i downloaded some time ago, but the filename is greyed out. I have to admit, I'm at a bit of a loss!

The collage maker has a few bugs. I can’t even use mine as I get an error message as soon as I select any size image. Also there is a very restricted choice of templates. I’m on Windows so you experience is possibly different.

There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate. You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

iPhoto does work and there is an upgrade:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

Video clips from phone will not work in photo show software

I have some video clips from my phone, but they won't transfer to my photo show software. Will upgrading to Quicktime Pro help?

The Pro upgrade merely enables features found in the standard install of QuickTime.
If the file opens and plays properly in QuickTime the Pro upgrade allows you to export to other formats.

How Do I Create A Photo Collage in Final Cut Pro X?

Hi all,
I'm a total newbie with Final Cut Pro X. I'm using it to edit aerial drone footage for real estate sales.
I have video from the outside of the houses, and I can edit that just fine. What I want to do, though, is have a kind of photo collage/montage of photos of the interior of the houses somewhere in the videos. But like I said, I'm totally new at this and have no idea how to do it.
If someone could explain how or point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

I put out a remake of the Photo Recall effect a few weeks ago called Photo Recall Enhanced (it adds a lot more features to the effect already available in FCPX.)

All you need to do is stack the images or video you want to collage on the sceen and add this Effect to each clip. You can set the Background Opacity to 0% to get rid of the "recall" effect and that will leave you with just the "photo" on the screen. There's an onscreen control to help you position the image and other parameters for scaling and rotating (and all of these things can be keyframed for animation.

I know that we can build desktop applications using Flex/AIR. But I have a very little experience in building desktop applications. Most of the times I had worked on web applications. It is like creating a web application that works with media server and
use computer/laptop webcam. Please guide me how can I start or plan for this software.

From What I've found.. it seems 3ivx or Perian could cause this problem. A friend had this issue and deleted 3ivx and it fixed his crashes. Alternatively, some folks are reporting that turning off 32-bit mode (Get Info) for Photobooth has also fixed, although this was already turned off in my friend's case. Or if you have iGlasses installed.
