Photo collages in Elements 11

In my previous version of Photoshop (I think 6) I was able to easily create a completely custom photo collage. I've been frustrated in my attempts to do the same in Elements 11. No. 1, how can I get a plain white background? Am I really stuck with the choices the program provides? No. 2, more importantly, how can I resize a photo once I put it on the collage? I used to be able to use the corner arrows to shrink or blow up a photo. I can't even figure out how to get the arrows...

In photoshop Elements 11 and 12, there is an option to create automatic collage using the opened photos in the creation panel. follow the following steps:
open all the images you want to put in the collage
go to create > photo collage. This would lanch a panel to select the collage size for printing.make sure that the option to autofill selected images is checked. Once done, it would automatically fill the images in the collage.
move, resize or reinsert your images as you want. You can choose from different layouts and graphics for collage. If you aren't satisfied with what you get, you can switch to adnaced mode from the button on top left corner of the image and edit the collage like you would do in the expert mode.

  • Help with photo collage in Elements 10

I am new to Photoshop Elements 10. I am trying to create a photo collage, but a window pops up saying "Valid size not available for this creation".  Can someone help me fix this so I can create??

You can select the layout-horizontal or vertical while choosing a theme for the collage. As you select the theme in Photo collage dialog, it shows the size as x*y inches or y*x inches which decides whether your collage would be portrait or landscape.
Let me know if that helps!

  • I am trying to make a Landscape photo collage in Elements 11 but Elements crashes. Why???

When I make a Collage in Elements 11 the Portrait mode works ok but when I try to make a Landscape one Elements crashes. Anyone any idea why?

Yes, this was a known bug. In any event, from PSE 11 on, there's really no point at all in using the collage feature to make a collage. Unlike earlier versions of PSE, in recent versions there isn't a single thing you can do with a collage in Create that you can't do more easily in the regular editor by just making a blank file and getting out the graphics panel to add backgrounds, frames, etc.

  • Elements 11 stops working in Photo collage

As soon as I try to make a photo collage in elements 11 the progrem terminates. What is the problem?
I use a PB PC with i7 processor and win 7. Enough memory and running the program from an solid state drive (SSD)

Well, you can try deleting the editor's preferences. Go to Edit>Preferences>General and click this button, then restart the editor:
However, in PSE 11 and 12 there's no percentage in using the collage feature. You're actually more restricted in what you can do than if you just create a new blank file in the editor, get out the graphics panel and add what you like. It's not like the older versions where there were things you could do in Create that you couldn't do elsewhere in PSE.

  • Help with Collages in Elements 10

I am trying to make a photo collage in Elements 10, but no matter what horizontal layout that I pick, the layout always comes up vertical!  I need to work in the horizontal layout.  Can anyone help me??

Don't use Create. Just make a new blank file in the editor the size and orientation that you want, then bring up the Content panel (window>content) and add what you want from there. In PSE 10 there is absolutely nothing you can do in a Create collage that you can't do in the editor, too, and usually much more easily.

This is a known bug in the software.
    You can do it manually.

Hope the above image is OK.  I have tried to create from the edit screen, all to no avail I'm afraid.  My Laptop is running Windows 7 Home Edition, and is a Packard Bell Easy Note with Intel i3 Core, 320 GB hard drive and 3GB of memory.  I will try to install Phtoshop Elements on my Asus laptop which is running Vista just to see if that works.  Many thanks for all f your efforts.

  • Elements 11 program stops working when photo collage opened when 297 x 210 selected

Adobe Photoshop elements 11 program stops working when photo collage opened when 297 x 210 selected>Running Windows 8.1

    Hi Jane
There are sometimes problems calling up the template from the media database. Why not design your own? It is possible to make a collage manually in Expert Mode and its quite easy.
Click File >> Open and select all of your photos
That will add them to the project bin
Then select File >> New >> Blank File
Select background color White (or whatever you prefer) and add your width and height for your final image (set resolution 72 for web usage or 240 to 300 for printing) then click OK
In the project bin click your first photo and drag it up into the main window on top of your new background.
Click on the move tool and click in the center of the photo and drag to arrange it where you want on the background - you can hold down the shift key to maintain original proportions whilst dragging the corner handles of the bounding box to get the size you want.
Do the same with the next photo (drag it up into the main window) and use the move tool to position it. Then continue with each image.
Finally Click Layer >>Flatten image and save as jpeg. (Save as PSD if you want to preserve the layers for editing again)
N.B. as you add images they get dropped in the center. So you need to use the move tool to drag them apart. Click in the middle of one and move it around, and then the others until you get them positioned as you want.
When you click again with the move tool a bounding box appears around the image and you can drag out the corner handles to re-size your photos. Hold down the shift key when dragging the corner handle and that will maintain the proportions of the original.
Finally click Layer >>Flatten Image and save your collage - you may then want to use the crop tool to cut away any surplus white canvas, and then re-save.

  • Why an Error Message "Valid size not available for this Creation" in Elements 10 Photo Collage

I have several image editing programs, but I bought Elements 10 specifically to do things the others wouldn't.  I wish to make a photo collage but all I get when I try, after following the instructions in the "help" and "Elements 10 for Dummies" is an error message stating "Valid Size not available for this Creation."  A meaningless phrase anyway because nowhere does it request a "valid size." Please will someone tell me the magiac words to make my lovely collage automaticaslly, or shall I revert to doing it manually on one of my other excellant image editing programs?

  • Photo collage backgrounds and themes available in Elements 8 but not in PE 11?

How can I use the photo collage backgrounds and themes available in Elements 8 but not in Elements 11?

    Hi gcannice,
In PSE11 Adobe moved most of the backgrounds, frames, graphics and themes online. That's why you are not able to see those themes, as those are still not downloaded in your machine.
You will have to keep your Editor launched (with internet connection on) for sometime, in order to see the thumbnails. The online content is differentiated by a blue ribbon on them. Double click on the blue ribboned thumbnail to download the actual content.
Adobe did this to save lot of amout of space on your machine, and make installtion process faster.

  • Elements 9 problems with photo collage

I have 4 days to print a photo collage series in PE9!  I have watched the video, read how tos & searched forum.  Please send help!
I am trying to make a photo collage, 5 on a 8 1/2x11 using the landscape, with white background & simple text.  Click the collage button, get a pile on 1 page, go to layout & pick landscape with 5, get portatit with 5.  Can't get a plain white background neither.  How do I do this?  If I try to hard the program crashes.  It's only 30 pictures!  I did not have this problem in PE8.    I am lost & running out of time.  What do I do????  CJ

Suggest that you make your own collage, esp. since time is running out. Do the math and determine the size that each of the 5 pictures should be, leave enough room to add text.
Crop each picture to the appropriate size.
Go to File>new>blank file, enter height and width of your document, background white, resolution 300px/in. The resolution of the pictures should be the same.. However, resolution 240-300px/in is probably ok for printing
Open the 5 picture files. Access pict. #1, go to Edit>copy, open the blank file created in step #3, then go to Edit>paste
Repeat for the other pictures. Each will on on its own layer. Use the move tool to position, and resize with the corner handles if necessary.
Using the type tool add text.
TIP: Open the grid to help you to position the pictures. The grid can be configured via Edit>Preferences>Guides and grid. You may want to check "snap to grid" under View>snap to grid

  • Photoshop Elements - Is it possible to create product photo collages for fashion blog?

Is it possible to create product photo collages with links to each individual item's website?  I am starting a fashion blog and the product photo collages with links will be my primary use for adobe and am trying to figure out which program will be best for me.

For example, do you know what program it would take to embed links like this: WHAT I LOVE RIGHT NOW | Luella & June
