Photo count differs when sharing library
One of my Macs has an iPhoto library with 6,413 photos. When I share this library with another Mac, the other Mac says the library only has 6,351 photos. What would cause this discrepancy? Why can't it see 62 of the photos?
I have the same issue. I have the library on my NAS and we can access it from both of our computers. Of course, not at the same time. I was going to look into today. I wonder if I delete the pref file for iPhoto on the other computer if anything would change.
Update...actually my issue was the hidden photos. I had view enabled on my computer, when I disabled it the count didn't change. However, after restarting iPhoto it did. Now they match. Sorry that isn't your case.

Im using a macbook air and my finished edited photo is different when it the develop and library mogul why is this
On your iPhone ..
Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
Then tap Settings > General > Date & Time
Switch: Set Automatically ON
No data is lost due to a reset. -
Why is the word count different when I use word count from the tools menu to the number at the bottom of my mac word document
This forum is for Apple's defunct office suite 'AppleWorks' - since the word count is not in the places you mention I assume you are talking about Microsoft Word? Though it's just possible someone in this forum might also use Word and know the answer, you would stand a higher chance of getting an answer in Microsoft's own forums. You could also try asking in the forum applicable to your operating system - Lion, Mavericks or whatever - on the reasonably chance of finding someone familiar with Word.

Song Count Different in iTunes Library and iPod
I am perplexed now. iTunes says I have 6643 songs in the library, and it says it is fully synched with my iPod. Yet the iPod thinks it has only 6603 songs on it. I have gone carefully through the library, and every song thinks it is downloaded. When I mount the iPod, and highlight it in the Source column, the library also reports that the iPod has only 6603 songs on it, so it agrees with the iPod. So what are the 40 songs that the library has that won't download onto the iPod?
Solution found. I find this amazing, but the iTunes library and the iPod treat duplicates in different ways. In iTunes, if one accidentally ends up with a duplicate song (for example by ripping the same CD twice, not realizing it was ripped before) the iTunes library shows the song twice (and the underlying mp3 files exists twice in the store). And the number of songs showing in the library includes both copies of the song, the original and the duplicate. If you then synch up the iPod, however, iTunes only loads one copy of the song to the iPod. So in my case it transpired that there were 40 duplicates on my computer, none of which downloaded to the iPod, and that is why the song count was higher in the iTunes library, and why the volume of music in the library showed as 240 MB more than what was in the iPod. Very strange design that iTunes knows enough not to download duplicates, but still shows them in the library. Solution is to go to Edit / Show Duplicates in the iTunes library, but be careful as there will be many false positives.

I want to darken the overexposed sky in a photo. I reduced the exposure ( - 4 EV) of the whole photo to see how the sky would look. It looked great. Deep blue sky with white clouds with light gray areas. Then I reset the exposure & painted the sky with the adjustment brush set to Exposure - 4 EV. The sky looked terrible. Clouds were dark grayish black in some areas. I increased the exposure to - 3 EV & then - 2.5 EV & it looked less terrible but not good. Why is there such a difference in the way the sky looks when changing the exposure of the whole photo & changing it with the adjustment brush. Thanks!
It is a known issue with how the adjustment brush works in exposure
compensation mode. Hopefully it will be fixed in the future.

IPhoto 09 facebook integration design botch with shared library
Like, I suspect, a lot of people with a family Mac we have multiple accounts so we can have our own setup, but we pool all our photos together into a shared library (per Apple's recipe, using a separate volume without permissions) so we can all browse our common photos...after all, the pictures of us our more likely to come from other people's cameras, and vice versa.
This worked fine in the last version of iPhoto, but the implementation of facebook integration has a serious flaw. The facebook metadata is stored in the iPhoto library (though it seems not the passwords, thankfully), instead of a user's personal directory. This means when I look at the shared library, I see the facebook folders the OTHER users of the mac created, which are unwriteable to me, since of course we have separate facebook accounts.
This is a design flaw. The facebook folders should be personal info, not visible in the shared library, or (better yet) I should be able to have a shared library for iPhoto and separate personal libraries, then I could make my own choices.iPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback

I see the same photos with different resolutions in my iPhoto library
I am trying to organize my photos in the iPhoto library by deleting those are stored twice or more. However in many doubles I found out that some of them exist in my library in different resolutions. My photos are imported either from my camera, or from my iphone, or from my iPad or from the shared photo streams which include photos imported from various apple devices.
What I see for example is some photos taken from an iPhone exist in both 2048x1536 and in 3264x2448 resolution and some others in 1224x1632 and in 1536x2048 (I guess these 2 resolytions are for the vertically taken thotos while the other 2 for orizontical). For iPad photos I see 2056x1536 and 2592x1936 for the same photos. All doubles have different names (eg. IMG_007 and IMG_1056 for the same photo). Furthermore some doubles include info about the camera (eg. iPad back camer 4.28mm f/2.4) and some others don´t (only info about the device eg. iPad).
Why is this mess happening in my library? Apparently I want to keep in my library the photos only in the maximum available resolution for better quality.
In relation to that I have the following questions:
1. When a photo or a video is shared in a photo stream, is its resolution decreased to a lower one?
2. Is there any way to see what the resolution is of the original photo stored in the iPhone or iPad, so that I can compare with the the same ones I have on my computer´s iPhoto library?
3. Is there any way to see the resolution and other info for the Photos in a shared Photo stream which are not yet imported localy on my computer?
Thanks in advance.Happy New Year to all!
I made a test and I confirm what I was suspected at first place.
I uploaded a photo taken from my iPhone to the shared photo stream. Then I imported this photo from the photo stream to my iPhoto library on my Mac. The resolution in which this photo is stored locally is 2048x1536 and its size 961 KB.
Then I sent the same photo from my iPhone via e-mail. I opened the email on my computer and downloaded the photo. Then I imported it to my Mac´s iPhoto library. I checked the info out and the resolution is now 3264x2448 and size 2.2 MB.
Therefore the quality and resolution of the photos that are uploaded to the icloud photo stream is NOT the same as the original one.
I don´t know whether there is somewhre an option to change that, but this is what happens to me right now. -
How do I see my pictures that are in my aperture library in finder? I would like I be able to select photos in finder when I am making photo books online without having to export them first from aperture jinto a new folder. Is there any way to view and download my pictures directly from finder?

The digitization of data has introduced a complexity to our interactions with it that we continue to struggle with. "Picture" and "Photo" now mean different things in different contexts. In this case (and in general) defining our terms clearly is the first step towards understanding what we are trying to do. Understanding is the path that allows us to do it.
All pedantic, but please stick with me here .
You record a set of instantaneous data with a camera.
That data is processed by your camera and saved to a file.
The file format is usually either RAW or JPG.
You transfer those files to your computer, and you import them into the program Aperture (often in one operation).
From each camera-file imported, Aperture creates a record in its database (called, imho unhelpfully, a Library) and an Image that you see in the Aperture Browser and Viewer.
Aperture links the Image and the imported file.
The imported file is called, within Aperture, an Original.
Every Image has an Original.
The Image is not the Original. The Image is what you see in Aperture.
The Original is a file that is stored on your computer.
You can make changes to an Image.
Aperture calls these changes Adjustments.
Adjustments are saved to another file attached to the record in the database. Let's call this file the Changes File.
Aperture uses these two files attached to the record in the database to create the Image.
Image = Original + Changes File.
The Image is not a file.
Because the Image is not a file, it cannot be shared with other programs. It exists only inside of Aperture.
In order to share an Image with another program, you must first create a file of the Image.
You do this by exporting Images ("File ▹ Export ▹ Version" is the command in Aperture; should be, imho, "File ▹ Export ▹ Image").
You may ask, "Why all the complexity? Why doesn't Aperture save Images as files?" The answer is simple: Images can require less — and in many cases very very much less — storage space than files of Images. Rather than save a full-size file for every Image, Aperture saves only instructions on how to make that full-size file. The gain in storage efficiency is huge. The trade-off is that although your Images are always available to be made into share-able files, you must create those files when needed (which you do by exporting selected Images).
Here is your question reworded with more precise terms:
SamanthaR22 might have written:

No, there is not. Images exist only in Aperture, and are not accessible for use in other programs. You must create, for each Image in your Aperture Library, a new file outside of your Aperture Library in order to use it with another program.
Aperture does allow you to create and save within your Library share-able files of your Images. These files are called Previews. You specify the file parameters in Aperture Preferences on the Previews tab. These files are available to other programs via the OS X Media Browser. These files are what you get when you drag selected Images out of the Aperture program and drop them on another program or on your desktop (which is part of the Finder).

We have a Mac Mini Server for our small office running OS X Lion. Currently, we store our company photos in a folder on the shared drive of our server.
Some of our employees would like to use iPhoto to manage / edit photos, but there is no way (that I know of) to share a single iPhoto library among different machines. I read the knowlege base articel HT1198, but I don't bellieve that it is a solution for our setup.
Any guidance or input?Give Media Pro 1 a look. You can keep the source files on a server and each user can have their own catalog file of those photos that will give them their own "library" of those photos.
However, when editing a photo it will edit the source photo and that will affect all users so be sure to have backups. You probably can set the source files to be read only if you don't want every one to be editing them. Or edit and always to a Save As to the individuals Mac. You can add IPTC metadata annotations to the source files,
rename files, and catagorize the photos with labels, catalog sets and keywords.
The catalog contains preview photos (up to 640 x 640) of each photos that can be viewed even if the source files are not online or otherwise available.
Media Pro is available for both Macs and PCs and as a demo version to try out. For other candidates visit the The DAM Forum (digital asset management).

Troubles syncing photos from a shared library..
Hello,
When I try to sync photo's to my ipod touch from a iPhoto library that is shared in a folder within the "Users" directory - I get an error that says "You cannot sync your ipod touch as you do not have enough privileges ..." or something very similar.
I used to sync my own iPhoto library without issue and I think (but cannot be sure) that the issue arose when I went to a shared library.
I am pretty sure it is the photos that are creating the problem as when I turn off the option to sync photos all other sync processes complete without error.
I have repaired permissions on my disk (twice)
I have restored my ipod touch once
I have checked to see that permissions are set correctly on the iTunes library.
None of this has solved the problem. One other note of interest, even though the sync is not completing properly my Macbook is seeing the structure of the library file as my sync options mirror the events and folder structure that exists within the shared library.
I hope someone can help and I welcome any direction or suggestions.
I have checked the permissions on the actual library andI got the same problem with a shared iPhoto library which was created according to
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198
However, when I deleted the iPod Photo Cache as suggested, the problem still occurred to standard users (my wife and son), but not my account (admin). I checked the folder privilege after it was created after deletion and found that "everyone" shown "read only", not "read and write". Even manually change it to "read and write" cannot solve the problem.
Any idea?
N.B. The iPhoto library can be shared among different users on my iMac without problem. -
IPhoto 9.4.3 Crashes when importing from Shared Library
I have an early 08 Mac Pro with Mountain Lion running iPhoto 9.4.3. I'm attempting to import a good nubmer of photos from a shared library which resides on my MBP also running 10.8.2 and iPhoto 9.4.3. It starts to import, but after about 10-20 photos (Nikon Raw) it crashes. Consistently. Deleted plist, didn't fix it. Created a new test library, same issue. I'm attempting to copy over several hundred at a time, which I know is ridiculous, but a) I have too many to import going one by one or 20 by 20, and b) it didn't have a problem earlier when doing the same thing. I was importing >300 at a time last week.
My library is large, >100gb if that helps.
Here is the crash report. Please help me figure out what is going on!!!!

Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory. -
I have an iphone 4s and when I try to connect to my shared library I see an icon of a circle that only becomes half full. It does not connect. I also have an ipad, which connects without incident. My itunes library is larger than the capacity of both devices, so that cannot be the issue. How can I get the phone to connect with my shared library?
My husband and I are using the same iTunes account on all mac & pc computers, but the libraries are different on each machine. We always manually manage our music (no auto sync). iTunes is up to date on the PCs. My husband uses our joint iTunes account on his pc, but once again, has a different collection in his library from those on the other machines. He can't load any music from his PC to his iphone 4. I can load music from my mac library to my iphone 4s, but cannot load from my pc library to my iphone 4s. How can I switch my main library that it syncs with from the mac to the pc?
Thanks -
I just burned photos from different albums to CD-R. When I checked on the photos I burned on the CD-R afterwards, I noticed that the titles of each folder that these photos are extracted from appear. How can I get rid of these titles???
iPhoto 9.6 cannot open iPhoto Libraries on CD/DVD. The iPhoto Library needs to be on a writable storage. Copy the iPhoto library from the disk to a folder in your Pictures folder. And then run the iPhoto Library Upgrader on that copy, see this link: iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader

OCCI client application crashing, when implemented in a shared library
Dear All,
I have a problem running my Oracle C++ client using OCCI.
The client crashes when it tries to call the OCCI createConnection method.
The crash happen only if the connection method is implemented inside of an object that it is build in a shared library, which after it is linked to the main program. If I implement everything in the main function the crash does not happen.
I am building and running my client on SLES9 service pack 2 (Linux kernel 2.6.5) using Oracle 10.2g (10.2.0.1) and gcc 3.3.3, glibc 2.3.3 and libaio-0.3 and libaio-devel-0.3.

Attaching the core with gdb, I get the following stack:

Any Idea?
Thanks in advance and RegardsDear All,
I found the solution.
It is enough to add the build flag: "-fPIC" to the g++ -
Have new iMac with iPhoto sharing turned on. When the shared library is clicked the library disappears or starts to load then disappears? What is wrong?
Try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If it doesn't then your current library is damaged and needs repair.
Therefore make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If you experience the same problem with the test library then try this basic fix a try: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If that fails a reinstall of iPhoto is indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/ folder,
Then install iPhoto from the source it came on originally.
