Photo dimension more than 4000x4000 pixel

Hello , I have a question to the employees of the Pixel Bender Photoshop PlugIn . Is there a real chance for the near future  to make Pixel Bender Photoshop PlugIn able to work with filters on photos wich have more than 4000x4000 pixel-dimension . Most of the semiprofessional or professional DSLR today make photos with higher dimensions .
I will buy the new Sony A65 - and there will be photos with the following dimensions :
Still Image Size 16:9 :    L size: 6000 x 3376 (20M)M size: 4240 x 2400 (10M)S size: 3008 x1688 (5.1M)
Still Image Size 3:2  :    L size: 6000 x 4000 (24M)M size: 4240 x 2832 (12M)S size: 3008 x 2000 (6M)
I think that it can't be the solution for all users of such a modern DSLR to take photos only in 'S size' or reducing the image dimensions in Photoshop to max.4000pixel . I buyed me the Pixel Bender Filter 'PSKiss Edge Gear' for sharpen my photos (over the GPU from the graphic-card) but it works only on photos with max. 4000 pixel ( I tested this on photos with different dimensions ). I had Email-contact with an employee of PSKiss and he said that it is because of the restrictions from the Pixel Bender PlugIn to max. picture dimensions of 4000x4000 pixel.
The hardware (CPU,GPU,RAM,VRAM) of todays computers has no problems to handle bigger photos in graphic-software like photoshop but I think too the
'bottle-neck' for this problem are the dimension-restrictions  from the Pixel Bender Photoshop PlugIn. I would be great if you have a solution for this in near future.

Thank you for your prompt answer to my question. Your informations are very interesting and very helpful for me.I heard  here for the first time from the 128MB textur size limit and your right - this is a much more better solution than the 4000x4000 pixel limit for the most users. I just tryed to work with my 'PSKiss EdgeGear'-Pixel Bender Filter in Photoshop CS5 v.12.0.4x64 to big pictures of my friends Sony A850 (they have 6048x4032 pixel and are 45-65MB as 8-bit .Tif) and it works fine. From the internet I downloaded testfotos taken with the new Sony A77 (it has the same picture size as the Sony A65 I will buy - 6000x4000 pixel ). I converted the 24,6MB (*.arw)-Raw to 8-bit .Tif (68,6MB)
and here also the EdgeGear-Filter works fine. Finally I can say - thank you for your work and this 128MB limit in Photoshop CS5. I can good live with it . OK - we cannot work on 16-bit .Tif  taken with a Sony A850/A900 or the new Sony A65/A77 because they have more than 128MB (about 166MB or 137MB) but because of your answer I'm hopefully waiting for the next release of your Pixel Bender Photoshop-PlugIn .Good luck for testing - and may the limits fall.

  • Can I have a photo in more than one event?

I understand that it is normally not possible to have one photo in more than one event at a time.
I am quite careful about arranging my photos into events logically, but find in my library tere are several events called [Date] Photo Stream, which I've not delivberately created. It appears that in many cases the photos these Photo stream events contain are also in other events.
Can anyone tell me what is going on here? Can I safely delete the Photostream events and their contents?

To have a photo in more than one Event it must be duplicated and the duplicate added to the other Event.  A photo can be in multiple albums, books, slideshows without having to duplicate the photo as those use pointers to the original photo.
At the beginning of each month new photos in the Shoto Stream are imported into an Event with the month and year as the Event name.  All photos taken that month are added to that Event.  That's because the iPhoto/Photo Stream preferences are set to auto import photos taken by your mobile devices:
Events are basically buckets of photos based on the date taken and how you've setup iPhoto's preferences for importing photos:
Merging Events can change the location in the resulting event among the other events due to the variety of dates of the photos.

  • Same photo in more than one catalog - what happens?

What happens if you have the same photo in more than one catalog?
Background: I'm using a 4yr old 13" MacBook and my Lightroom is getting rather slow, on some pictures unusable.  At the same time my lrcat files are growing rather fast.  Probably due to my current work on some old scanned slides which require quite a lot of spot removal (last 3 photos worked on increased the lrcat file by 250mb) and each time Lightroom became virtually unusable.  I will be upgrading the computer but it wont be for a few months yet.  On one of the last slides I ended up with a "Oops! An untagged string (history step does not belong to instance) got thrown far enough that we display it to the user. This shouldn't happen.".
So I'm looking at splitting my catalog into two or more seperate catalogs.  But I have some galleries which contain photos from what would cross "sensible" splits of catalog so I thought about having the same photo in both catalogs where necessary.
My Lightroom is set to include metadata in XMP (probably making the performance worse).  I had intended to split catalogs using "export to catalog".
Does the photo in each catalog have it's own develop "fork" ? (i.e. does the metadata include catalog tags) ?  Or will changes made to the photo in one catalog automatically upadate the next catalog (or overwrite changes made in the other catalog), etc.?  Only a single computer, no network/sharing issues, nothing on exchangable/removable disk drives.
I could experiment but after quite some time the other day resolving the "history step does not belong to instance") I am treating my catalog with great care.
(I have does a search for the question so will be very embarassed/appologetic if somebody says "Read www.adobe.com/.....").
    Many thanks

For some reason photos were scanned in as jpegs.  They end-up at around 16-19MB each.  Reasons for that are historical.  I am applying spot corrections in Photoshop in a new layer, then merging layers when everyting is done OK to save (saving as PSD gave a massive file size).  I will try saving as tiff.  Personally I hate JPEGs but was never too concerned about the scans in LR as LR is never resaving the image (non-destructive editing).  I may easily upgrade to CS6 (upgrade is <£200 on Amazon), but being non-professional, fuds are not unlimited (particularly with new computer coming soon!!).
So weird effect is with jpegs around 16MB after Photoshop edits.  It is completely reproducable (i.e. has happened exactly the same of every photo done via this route).  The surprising thing is that exiting and restarting LR stops the weird effect.
Adding 2 and 2 together to get 22, I wonder if, as I have "Write Metadata to XMP ..." enabled, if LR has a watch on the file for changes after switching to external editor (i.e. to detect when external editor saved changes so LR updates from the file) and that that "watch for change" is not cancelled after exiting the external editor - maybe because LR cannot know if external editing is compketed (even though exitng Photoshop does not stop the effect).  Then, when LR writes to the file (to update the XMP data) it "detects" the change it causd itself and hence the reload.  If I change the Catalog Settings to disable the "Include develop settings in JPEG ..." and disable the "Save XMP Data ...", the effect goes away and if I re-enable those catalog options the effect returns.
I will try saving as tiff in future now I'm really re-saving the image.
    Many thanks

  • How can I publish photos to more than one Facebook account?

How can I publish photos from iphoto to more than one Facebook account?  Another way to ask is how to add a second Facebook account to the account list in iphoto?

Open iPhoto Preferences, click on the "Accounts" icon, and add another account.

  • Syncing photos from more than the last 20 iPhoto events?

How can I sync more than the last 20 iPhoto events with my iPhone?
When I select folders instead of events I can get more photos (ex: last 12 months) to my iPhone but at the same time I no longer have access to the "events" view which I use to organize my photos.
Is there a solution to sync/copy more than 20 events to my iPhone?

For whatever the reason, syncing iPhoto Events is limited.
I make use of iPhoto albums in addition to Events - primarily for transferring photos to my iPhone.

  • How to configure an image to specific parameters.  Needed: no more than 1200 pixels on long side   jpeg format   no less than 5 mb.  Image will be viewed on large standup screen.(original image is 22 mb)

I often have requests for images to be sent within certain parameters:  such as "no longer than 1200 pixels on longest side + jpeg format + file size no less than 5 mb."  Images will be viewed on a large stand up screen.  My original image sizes are usually around 22 mb.  When I use Export and specify 1200 pixels (quality setting is all the way over to 12), Save the file to a folder on the desktop, and then open the image in Preview, Inspector shows that the file size is now 233 KB.  How do I meet all specifications without reducing the image size so drastically?
    Thank you.

. Pardon, it reduced it down to 833 KB, not 233 (I mixed it up with another image) from the Original image of 22 MB, RAW.  Should it reduce it down that much??
That will depend on the amount of of detail in your jpeg. Given a certain pixels size and level of quality, a jpeg with many details will require a larger filesize than a jpeg with large plain regions of constant color.
Is 833 KB a big enough file size to view on a big screen?
The file size is really unimportant for the quality. What will count is the pixel size and jpeg quality you set. What is the pixel size of the large screen? That should match the pixel size you are using in your export preset. 1200 longest dimension is extremely unlikely for a large screen. Even the 17" display of my MacBook Pro has a larger pixelsize of 1920x1200.
I am sharing William Lloyd's doubts, that the specifications you were given are correct.  I'd try to export with a larger pixelsize and a high jpeg quality - perhaps 10.
If you export with 10 Megapixel  and a good jpeg quality, you will probably get a 5MB file, not that the size should matter.

  • Organizing photos on more than one computer

    Hello,
I would like suggestions on organizing photos.  I am a professor of architecture and have several thousands of photos of buildings and cities that I have visited and designed.  I use some of these photos for lectures and other professional work, but many of them go unused.  The total amount of space taken is about 100GB and is growing fast.  My main computer is a 15" MBPro, but I have begun to use an 11" MBA for lecturing.  The problem is that neither drive is able to hold my complete photo library.
My question is:  How do I best organize my photo library so that I can keep the same "5 Star" photos on both computers, but still be able to see images on a back-up hard drive when connected?  I have both Aperture and iPhoto.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
    Matthew Jelacic

You are asking two questions in one.  You'll get a more successful set-up if you address them separately.  The question you stress is file management.  Put simply, you want to be able to use an Aperture Library (or a subset of same) on two portable computers with insufficient built-in storage space.  Secondarily, you are also asking about image management: how to structure your Library for best use providing source material for a professor of architecture.
The file management questions is more easily answered, esp. as you have specified that your top need to have 5-star (and presumably only 5-star) images on the second computer.  First, read the User Manual chapter on Library files.  That will almost certainly provide you the information you need to answer your question with more specificity than we can provide here.  (Click heading for link.)
    Working with Library Files
Aperture exports projects, albums, and folders as a library file. You can transfer the library file from one Aperture system to another and then merge the transferred library file into the library file on that system. All links between versions and their masters are maintained when library items are transferred. This is particularly useful if you use a portable computer when on location or away from your studio, and a workstation at your studio. Any work done in the field can be exported from your portable computer as a library file and then merged with the library file on the workstation at your studio.
When the library file becomes large and requires more disk space than is available in its current location, you can move it to a hard disk with greater storage capacity. To change the location of the library, you move the library file to a new location and then double-click it to open it in Aperture.
I think you'll it easiest to use one of your portable machines only, both in the office and at the lectern, with all of your images having Referenced Masters on an external FW800 drive.  Either set you Previews to the size you need in the lecture hall, or if that is insufficient, convert all 5-star images' Referenced Masters to Managed Masters using the "File→Consolidate Masters" command.  If you do that, you'll have your Library on your laptop, your 5-star images Masters inside that Library (as Managed Masters) and all you other image's masters on your external drive.
There are many posts on the forum re: Managed and Referenced Masters (search -- good stuff there).  Two things to know from the get-go:
    Every image has a Master
Image's have Masters.  Libraries can contain all of one kind of Master, or may be mixed.  Libraries contain images; images are linked to Masters.
    Good Luck.
PS: Ditch iPhoto, or ditch Aperture.  They are not practicably compatible.

  • TS3989 I had photos on my camera roll on my old phone, bought a new one and selected those photos to be a shared photo stream but when I sent it to my wife and opened it on my new phone it says there are no photos shared - these photos are more than 30 da

Just bought a new iPhone 5 and wanted to send pics from my camera roll on my iphone 4 as a shared photo stream to my new phone and my wife's phone.
I selected the pictures and created the photo stream and it showed up on my new phone and she was able to accept invite, but when opened the stream contained 0 photos and a message that says "No Shared Photos"
These pictures were admitedly older than 30 days. Is that the rule that pictures from your camera roll older than 30 days cannot be shared as photo stream?
I apprecaite all guidance on this issue. For those answering - yes everything else photostream wise is connected and working so there's no issue with setup - my question simply is can a user upload photos older than 30 days from the camera roll to a shared photostream?
    Thank you

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
30 days is only applicable to My photostream and even then it applies from the time they were added not mwhen they were taken (unless it's the same time)
I'd be inclined to restart your wife's phone and see if that helps, otherwise you might try turning photostream off and on again on her phone.
Note: disabling photostream and re-enabling it will result in any photos that are currently in the photostream album on your device, that are older than 30 days old, not being added back.

  • Can't search photos using more than one word.  Ruined ability to data base

I've spent hundreds of hours cataloging my photos by keywords and image titles and created a data base that is critical to my business. After installing iPhoto 11 I can no longer search using multiple words. This has made my data base useless. The "Faces" and "Places" fields will not help because those are not part of the search criteria. Is there a way to make this work? If not how do I go back to the old version of iPhoto?
    thanks for your help!

How were you searching previously? Adding both keywords and title text to the search box? Why can't a smart album do the trick?
You might consider using a DAM (digital asset management) application like Expression Media. It's a professional grade image management app that can be searched for any combination of keywords, description text, title text, etc.

You can learn about EM and the other pro DAM apps at the The DAM Forum. I strongly suggest you consider a more robust DAM app for your professional work.

  • Can you 'log out' of a facebook account on iphoto in order to upload photos to more than one facebook account?

My friend uploaded her photos to facebook on my mac/iPhoto and now I cant upload mine. When I press 'share', 'facebook' etc on iphoto it immediately tries to upload them onto her account even though she is no longer logged into her facebook on my computer.

After the following steps, should I be able to post a link to my Facebook timeline?
    1) Log out in Facebook app.
    2) In Settings, disable Facebook account access to Facebook app.  (Now the Facebook app shows the login form.  Don't login.)
    3) In Mobile Safari, clear cookies and data.
    4) In Mobile Safari, post a page to your Facebook timeline.
I was expecting it fail or bring up a login form, but it successfully posted the link to the timeline.  The access token is still remembered somewhere.  Help is appreciated.
[UPDATE: after typing up the above, googled for Facebook active sessions.  When I deleted all the sessions and tried sharing in the browser, it prompted me to enter the Facebook password in Settings, as expected.  Thought I'd post it here as it's related to the topic.]

In iTunes, if I sync photos in folder "A" on my PC with iPad and at a later time sync with folder "B" on the PC, will the photos that were originally synced with folder "A" be erased from the iPad?

  • Publishing to more than one account

Pardon me if you see I've already asked this. I'm not used to the new communities format, and so didn't find my earlier post.
Anyway, I'd like to know if it's possible to publish the same photos to more than one account, e.g, Flickr, Facebook, and MobileMe. I know I can publish to one of them, but once I've done it, the icons for the other two are grayed out. I maintain each for different reasons and don't want to have to restrict myself to just one of them for the same set of images.
    Thanks,
    Nick

You can do this... you can even publish to more than one account of the same type (e.g. more than one Facebook account, or more than one MobileMe account, etc.)
When you select some photos and publish to web sharing site, Aperture creates an album (unless you're publishing to an existing album) and then switches you to that album.  Look at the selected album in the "Library" view (left margin) and you'll notice it is now highlighting the new album at the social site... not the original Aperture project where the images originated.
For example... if I create an Aperture project called "Birds", have some photos in it, and then publish the album to, say, Facebook, it'll create a Facebook album called "Birds" and it will put me in that Facebook album (and gray out all the icons at the top.)  If I would like to publish that same album of Birds to, say, Flickr, then I'd need to select the Aperture project named "Birds" and verify that the same photos are still selected.  I can then click the "Flickr" icon to publish to Flickr.
The icons along the top which allow publishing to MobileMe, Facebook, and Flickr will only be highlighted if you are currently in an Aperture project/album.
