Photo dissappearing

I have photoshop element...I can edit everything no problem, once I crop a photo and try to save the crop, the photo dissappears, but with others forms of editing , it does not dissappear..Please tell me how to fix this issue.
Also when I come to save the photo after editing, I get a Photoshop Element Editor that reads:
By Checking "save in Version Set with Original" you have selected to create a version set with this file
Saving in a version set will group the versions of this file together
in the Elements Organizer, showing the most recent on top and placing all others below
Saving without creating a version set will keep each version of this file seperate in the elements Organizer so they appear side by side
Click OK to continue saving in version set or cancel to change your save option.
I am not sure what is happening here because this never popped out before when I want to save a picture in the file I opened it from??
Please help.

Hi,
A version set is a type of stack that contains one original photo and its edited versions. Version sets make it easy to find both the edited versions of an image and the original, because they are visually stacked together.
When you edit a photo with Instant Fix, organizer automatically puts the photo and its edited copy together in a version set. When you edit a photo in Editor, choose File > Save As, you can select the Save In Version Set With Original option to put the photo and its edited copy together in a version set.
If you edit a photo that’s already in a stack, the photo and its edited copy are put in a version set that is nested in the original stack. If you edit a photo that’s already in a version set, the edited copy is placed at the top of the existing version set. Elements Organizer does not nest version sets within version sets—a version set can contain only one original and its edited versions.

Happy Holidays.  After 3 years of use, my I-Photo disappeared from my Mac along with all my pictures.  And stupid me has no back-up.  Any ideas on how I can find my pictures?  Thanks.

    Happy Holidays to you too.
    What exactly is missing?
The iPhoto icon in the Dock, that you used to launch iPhoto?
The iPhoto application from the "Applications" folder?
Your iPhoto library from your "Pictures" folder?
To check what is still left, click on the looking glass icon in the upper right corner of your screen and type "iPhoto" into the Spotlight search field. This should find anything with iPhoto in its name. Does it show an iPhoto application? Then click it to launch it.
But before you do anything else, I'd strongly suggest to get yourself a backup disk and make a Time Machine backup of your machine right now. You have already noticed, how risky it is, not to have a working  backup. The best computer will crash one day.

  • Photos dissappeared

I uploaded some photos, veiwed, edited and placed some in new albums.  I was just looking through one of the albums when a message appeared that "iPhoto has closed unexpectedly".  When I reopened, all 600+ of the photos I had uploaded were gone, including the selected that were put into albums.  The albums themselves still show, but are empty.  Does anyone know what could have caused this.  Are my photo's gone for good ?? (I deleted them from the camera when they uploaded). I am using a new Mac Book Pro with Retina display.  I have had it only a week as my old Mac Book Pro was stolen.  I have never encountered this before.
Would be very grateful if someone can help

Is there a crash log? You can look for it in the "Console" application sidebar. Then post the first 60 lines of the log. Perhaps we see a more detailed error message there.
And what is your iPhoto version and MacOS X version?
Are my photo's gone for good ??
Check, if you can see your photos in the iPhoto Library Package. Your iPhoto Library is by default located in the "Pictures" folder and called "iPhoto Library.photolibrary" (in the most recent iPhoto version). Ctrl-click (right-click) the iPhoto Library and select "Show Package Contents". You will see folders inside the package. Select the Folder "Masters". This is organized by import date. Open the sub folder with the current date and see, if your recent import is there. If yes, copy the folder with the image files to the Desktop, to make a backup copy.
After a crash you should use the library first aid tools to rebuild your iPhoto library. Make a backup copy of your iPhoto Library, then press and hold down the key-combination ⌥⌘ (options/command) while double clicking iPhoto to launch it, then select "Rebuild library" from the panel that launches.
You may find your last import in a "Recovered items" event afterwards.
(I deleted them from the camera when they uploaded)
That is risky. I always delete the images in the camera, and only after checking that the import into the photo library was successful and I have a backup of the images. Also, the camera knows best how to erase the card without corrupting the files system. Some applications can ruin your card, when they try to delete photos from the card.

  • Originl iPhone photos dissappeared - how to get back?

I synced to add some photos and the new pics were placed both in new album and overwrote original iPhoto that came with phone - how do I get them back?
    HELP, if yoiu can, please

I dont think you can overwrite the wallpapers that came with the phone - those are the only pics I saw that came with my iPhone.
When you sync multiple folders, the iPhone creates one folder with a summary collection of all the individual folders, plus the individual folders themselves. The iPhone only has what you sync with it from iTunes.

  • Cannot open all photos in iphoto

Hi! I was wondering if anyone could help me. When I try to open the pictures in iphoto, nothing happens. The thumbnails are there, but if I try to edit them for example, the picture won't come up onto the screen. I tried going into pictures/library/preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist then trashing the plist. This resulted in almost all of my photos dissappearing! I had over 1600 photos now I am left with about 125 and most of those aren't even showing a thumbnail!! So, I went into pictures again and had a look in library and library1 and I can see that some of the 'missing' photos are there, however when I try to open them it says on some 'The alias "DSC003373.JPG" could not be opened because the original item cannot be found.' Have no idea where the original could possibly be either!! Some of them also come up with "Couldn't open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn't recognise". Please please can someone help me! I would die if I have lost all of my photos! And, yes, I will be putting them onto discs from now on! Thanks a lot
    Fiona

    Fiona,
You can try and see if creating a new library will recover all the photos that you can't see in iPhoto.
    Close iPhoto
Rename your messed up iPhoto Library to "iPhoto Library_old"
Drag this library to your desktop
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto
This is the window you will get
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library
Once this new empty library is open it is time to import the images from your old library
    Go to File>add to library
Navigate to the old library on your desktop and highlight it in the window, then click the "open" button.
iPhoto will start importing the images from your old library
    This is what to expect:
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
Once all you images have been imported, check through the library and make sure everything looks ok.
You can now start making your Albums, and do your keywords or any other organizational steps.
You can also delete the old library on the desktop.
It is also a good time to backup this new library to CD/DVD by burning the iPhoto LIbrary folder in the Finder, or copying the iPhoto Library folder to an external drive formatted for Macs, or copying the iPhoto LIbrary folder to an iPod.
    Good luck!

  • Missing template/missing photos

Two problems in the last 24 hours with iWeb. After publishing a new entry yesterday, I noticed that previous blog entries containing photos are now missing the photos and in their place is a gray box with an X through it and a ? in the center. Spoke with Apple Care for over an hour and they are not sure of the problem and suggested I post to this board while they work on it.
They believe it is a server problem. For some reason information (specifically photos) are getting "lost" in transit to/from my iDisk.
This morning I noticed that I can not add a new entry using my "Elegant" template because the "Elegant" template no longer exists on iWeb. Has it been removed from iWeb for some reason or is it just me?
Any ideas regarding what is happening here?
I did tell Apple Care that other iWeb uses are having the same problem with the gray boxes with the X and ? appearing in place of photos - so I am not the only one with this problem. The main concern is that some of the missing photos were published on my website MONTHS ago and those entries have not been touched since. Why would they suddnly vanish? If happened to me yesterday (with about 10 photos) it can happen again.

I'm answering my own question. Basically iWeb became corrupted and I had to reinstall iWeb with the help of an Apple Care Product Specialist - it took about an hour! Our guess is that I brought a corrupted photo into iPhoto and "passed" on this corruption to iWeb when I transfered photos from iPhoto to iWeb.
There have been other posts indicating similar problems, particularly with photos dissappearing and being replaced with a gray box, and X and ? mark. If this has happened to you I suggest you contact Apple Care or make an appointment at a Genius Bar to have them help you reinstall iWeb. FYI the product specialist had me publish my existing website to a folder before doing the reinstall. That way after iWeb was reinstalled, we were able to transfer my original site back to iWeb where it now runs flawlessly.

  • Flagged photos not clearing

This is a weird one that has never happened to me before.
I fagged some photos but when I hit the "clear flagged" button, nothing happens.
I have flagged another set of photos and when I hit "clear flagged" again, the newly flagged photos dissappear but the ones that did not clear originally are still there... as I said weird.
Anyone had this happen or know how to fix?
    Thanks

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • How can i RECOVER a time machine file from  the trash

I hope someone can help me... I have spent hours and hours reading forums but none that have addressed my problem.
My daughter gave me her old backup drive.  She also has a MAC so she had Time Machine backups on the drive already.  I started backing up onto this drive about a year ago.  Backups have been done now for a year or so.  Last night I got the message that I was running out of space so I looked at the drive and realized that her backups were still on the drive so I moved them into the trash.  Then Time Machine wouldn't work anymore and I realized that not only did her backups get moved but all of mine did as well.  I need the backups because after I upgraded to Mavericks many of my photos dissappeared from iPhoto.  These are photos that I can't recreate - I sell jewelry and take pictures before I send the piece out.  Everything is one-of-a-kind so it's very important for me to get these back.  I realize now that I never should have moved the backups into the trash as I will have a problem deleting it once I separate her backups from mine but I will deal with that after I figure out this problem.
Is there anything I can do to move the backups back from out of the trash and into Time Machine again? (BTW - I don't know which version of Mavericks I have - I have done all available updates so I assume it is 10.9.3)

As long as you don't delete the trash, the files should be recoverable.
I suspect using the Put Back command could take a long time, so be patient.
If your Time Machine backups are mixed with your daughter's backups you might want to buy a larger drive and move the Time Machine files to the new drive.
Regarding missing photos in iPhoto...There might be options to rebuild/recover that data from iPhoto rather than trying to revert to a Time Machine backup.
Check out this third party app, iPhoto Library Manager. It has a demo.
    http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/
    Options for a larger drive.
I like the Seagate USB 3.0 Backup plus drives. Works on USB 2.0 ports. They come formatted for PC but easy to format in Disk Utility.
I don't recommend Western Digital because of the boot problem with some of their drives.
    LaCie makes good drives.
All Mac formatted drives will cost more and it’s easy to reformat with Disk Utility. Do not use the software that comes with the drives. It’s recommended that you use Apple’s Disk Utility.
Prices vary but this gives you an idea of what you’ll find. As you notice the second and third TB is usually only $15 more per TB. Normally, you’ll find these prices but right now the 1T is more than the 2T
Seagate Backup Plus 1 TB USB 3.0 $85
Seagate Backup Plus 2 TB USB 3.0 $99
Seagate Backup Plus 3 TB USB 3.0 $115
I have seen the 3T on sale for $99.
Locally, Best Buy seems to have the best prices.

  • TS2709 Apple TV error: open port 3689

I just did a factory restore on my Apple TV.  I then set it up again from scratch and synced data successfully.  Then I did a ATV software update to the latest version.  After this I noticed my photos dissappeared from the ATV, but all other synced content remained.  iTunes sees the ATV but now when I try and sync it, I get an error telling me that "ATV isn't responding and to check my firewall settings to be sure that port 3689 is open".
I've checked the firewall and iTunes is listed in windows 7 firewall authorized programs and the settings for that program are good.  I even tried specifically changing the port to TCP 3689 and it still gave me the same error message when I tried to sync.
Right now I can't sync my ATV because of this problem.  There are no valid articles in the apple knowledgebase about this problem that I can find either.
Does anyone have any suggestions on a fix?

firewall is not the place you want to see if it's blocked it's in your wifi router you want to verify it
how you go about this depend on the router it's manual would likely describe how one unblock ports

  • How do I get wallpaper pic off my ipod, if it's not in my camera roll anymore?

When I updated my iPod touch, my photos dissappeared.  The photo that is my wallpaper is no longer in my camera roll, I don't have it on my computer anymore either. It is a picture of my cat that recently passed away and I want to get it off my iPod as a useable file.  Please help!

Place the iPod in recovery mode using this program:
    For PC
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
    For MAC or PC
    The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella
    The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

iPhoto has dissappeared off my laptop. Says it is installed, but cant find it. All photos gone

Do a Spotlight for "iPhoto.app" and see what yo get. If that fails download and run Find Any File to search for a file with "iPhoto.app" in the file name.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages. If the application is hiding somewhere on your hard drive FAF will find it.

When I save a filtered photo from my iphone (filtered with "Tonal") onto my desktop into iPhoto, the filter dissappears and its saved as a standard color photo. Is there a reason why and way I can save it as is?

The reason is that Apple screwed up and despite threads for this issue dating back several months, there is no fix.  It's outrageous -- a dozen or so photos that I just took got completely screwed up because of this.  There isn't even a way to replicate the effects in iPhoto without major guesswork and tweaking.
I mean this isn't even something that should be an issue.  How Apple thought that a user would want his filters to disappear is beyond me.  I mean it's so absolutely counterintuitive that I'm baffled that such a destructive 'feature' could've made it through.
So much for Apple's quality control!  They'll forever say it's intentional and part of the 'lossless' design where the effects aren't permanently applied, but there should be an option.  Some users want their filters to stay when they take them.
In fact, ALL USERS WANT THE FILTERS TO STAY.

  • Using an External Hard Drive - Photo Thumbnails dissappear

Not sure if this is the correct place, but I'm not talking about any application in particular.
I just purchased a Western Digital External Hard drive. MyBook Essentials. I've gotten everything I wanted copied over and deleted from my MacBook. I was in the process of organizing my photos - rotating them, deleting the fuzzy ones, ect - and after about thirty minutes of work all the thumbnails went to the generic JPEG look.
I can double click to bring up Preview, and see the photos - they're all there still. But I was using the thumbnails for quick previews.
I don't know if it makes a difference, but for further information, I was using the flow when they all started going out. And it wasn't immediate - first the one I was working on changed to JPEG, then as I scrolled so did the others.
    I need my thumbnails!
Also, another side note - I have also seemed to have lost my iTunes album artwork in condsoladating and transfering my library to the EDH as well.
Help with both these problems would be greatly appreciated!

For some reason this sometimes happens when using CoverFlow for an extended period of time. Try relaunching the Finder, which often cures the problem. You'll want to close your Finder windows, then hold the Option key and click and hold the click on the Finder icon in the Dock. You should then see a fly out menu, with the last item being "Relaunch Finder"--select it. All Finder windows, if you left them open, will close and the Desktop will "blink" as Finder quits and relaunches. This generally fixes the problem, at least for awhile.
As for the album art work: there is a lengthy article about moving the iTunes Library here:
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive/48
If that doesn't help you should try asking in the appropriate iTunes forum:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=789
Personally, I store the actual music one place, and the iTunes folder, with the "Album Artwork" is left in my home Music folder. So far this has worked fine for me.
