Photo Download Issues
My photos download to my 5G IPod. The problem is that all are in alphabetical order except the most recent folders, that is from the last year or so. The software has been updated, the dates from the camera are correct but I have 10 or so folders randomly placed after the letter "Z". Any ideas?
JOhn:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. How are you downloading the files, directly into iPhoto? Are you letting iPhoto delete the files after the importing is complete?
I vaguely recall something about iPhoto and possibly the system having a problem with the XD cards. When you said you tried other cards were they the same type?
Have you used this camera with iPhoto previously? It's not on the list of Tiger supported cameras: http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/cameras.html.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Bridge CS4 Photo Downloader issue
If I use Bridge CS4 photo downloader to retrieve images from a CF card, the download appears successful. Bridge and photoshop can process all files without problem from the download directory.
Subsequently, if I use Digital Photo Professional (Canon's provided image browser - known as DPP) to view the download directory, DPP will crash with a "DPPViewer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close ..." fatal error window.
If I subsequently delete the first file from the download directory, DPP will successfully operate without crashing.
I have performed this test multiple times and it is "reasonably consistent".
If I use PhotoMechanic to download the images (Rather than Photo Downloader), DPP will never have an issue reading all files.
If I change Photo Downloader options to uncheck "Preserve Current File Name in XMP" and "Apply Metadata" to NONE, files can be imported by Photo Downloader and read properly by DPP.
My interpretation of this is that Digital Photo Downloader may have a problem properly downloading the first file from the CF card (hummm. a boundary condition :-) this may be associated with metadata.
Has anyone else experienced this?Seems like I have seen posts where the autoload does not work correctly when you plug in a usb device with 64 bit systems. This is Windows Os thing. Might google this to check for solutions.

I have used PSE 9 fine for a little while now and can't complain yet, except that in my photo downloader dialoge box, I don't have the "advanced dialoge" button option down at the bottom left. All the tutorials I've viewed and books I've scanned show screen shots indicating that I should have this option. Any idea why I don't? I want the option to choose which images to import as well as rename and add metadata info, etc. like I did with my PSE 6 that I was previously using.
Thanks for any help you can offer.Hmmm . . .that's interesting.
It seems from the screen shots that I've seen, that it should be directly across from the "get media" and "cancel" buttons on the right. I can see those, but there is a big empty space on the left where before I had the "advanced dialoge" button. I can't understand why screen size/resolution would affect that. (I admit I'm slow on understanding technology . .. sorry.)
The dialoge box I get when importing from my card reader does not give me the option to choose which images to import. It just imports all files found. I'm thinking that the only way around that is just to import them straight to my external drive storage and then to import them into PSE and rename, etc. I just miss how easy I had it with PSE 6 and am wondering if the same action is possible and I'm just missing something.
Not sure if there is anything more to be said in answering my question. I will consider the answer to be "no", you will not get that button/option and you need to just learn all that PSE 9 does have to offer (smile).
Thanks!
(still trying to figure out how to check what my screen resolution is . .. .) -
Trying to download pics and vids from I-Phone 4-s to Mac Book pro.....at the very end of download...I get an error message..." i-photo cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image" I need to figure out WHICH file is causing the problem. I have to get this stuff off of my phone and on to my Lap top....HELP!!!....
Try using disk utility to verify/repair you hard drive, Take a look at this link, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1782?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

I purchased an iPad air and chose a backup from my iPhone 5s. The only issue is only 30 of my photos downloaded to my iPad and none of the music. How can I get all items on the iPad?
you are using I tunes as the middle man for this back up, right?
When you plug in the pad to i tunes, give it a unique name, like my pad. I tune may be thinking it is talking to your phone. It will keep track of what you what on each device. Then plug your phone back in, and make sure your photos are uploaded to the computer - in i photo if you are using a mac, or in whatever photo program you are using on a windows device. You also want to make sure you have uploaded to the computer all of your music.
Once you get all that stuff there, plug the pad back in, and go through each of the tabs - selecting the music, photos etal that you want on the pad, then resync. -
Photoshop Elements 12
Adobe Photo Downloader has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Error Code: c0000005
Address: 75e32f71
I clicked on the OK button and the downloader closed.
I did a search on this error code (c0000005) and there seems to be a workaround but no solutions, why is this? I ask that because this problem seems to be years and years old, going back to at least 2005 (do the math that is 10 years).
I don't even have the Camera hooked up and I get this error on download. I redownloaded everything and reinstalled. I allso saw the AVI issues reported with this proble so i updated Quicktime though without the camera being hooked up when I get this error I didn't expect that to work. I tried support and they wouldn't help because I bought it in March this year. Pretty frustrating as I have re-purchased Elements about every 2 years. I think I might need a new CODEC? I had this problem on an Earlier version And I seem to remember that being the Fix but this may be something completely differentI finally found that it was missing a picture so the Catalog was "corrupted". I just deleted the picture and it started working.
I hate Adobe and their total lack of support - thanks for nothing Adobe . Also get this - they offered me to upgrade to 13.0 ( My 12.0 is only 6 months old but they still don't support it on errors. Only install errors!
I have upgrade and repurchase this product 4 times now. I will find something else next time! -
Photo Downloader doesn't retain previous settings (again)
Please see previous post because this issue involves Photo Downloader and ACR.
I'm using 10.6.8, CS5.1 and Bridge 4.1.0.54
I have just reloaded Camera Raw 6.4.1 due to the bug in ACR 6.5 that prevents selecting a destination folder in Photo Downloader and causing Bridge to freeze.
6.4.1 solves the freeze problem, but now it's back to the problem that none of the settings in Advanced Dialog are retained, nor does Photo Downloader default to Advanced Dialog anymore. I've added the CS5 folder as before (User/Library/Application Support/Adobe) alongside the existing CS5.1 folder, but it hasn't solved the problem. Is there a new solution to this yet?
6.4.1 works fine on my MBP using the above workaround (CS5 folder added). Because I now have a dozen new student iMacs to set up, my three-part second question is: has ACR 6.6 been tested for these two bugs; should I wait before setting up the iMacs; how long before ACR 6.6 is officially released? Thanks Omke. I¹ll try that next time I¹m in the lab. However, on my
MacBook Pro I checked the CS5.1 folder, and there is no ³APDPreferences.xml²
in that location (it is there in CS5 folder but I couldn¹t open it). On the
iMacs, I¹m only running CS5.1. Is there a different location for it in
CS5.1?
I¹m wondering if I¹m the only one running Mac OS 10.6.8, Bridge 4.1.0.54 and
ACR 6.5 who¹s having this problem?

It¹s baffling,
That is to put it mildly you mean, can't imagine that is the only word that
came to your mind... Have you tried to repair permissions for OSX
again? I don't have the 5.5 installed so can't compare but if one system
does work, another not and you have compared both files and folders
existence in the two systems it does seem to be OS related to me? There is
also a file called "APDPreferences.xml" (user/library/Application Support/
Adobe/Bridge CS5) Can you open the files on both systems and compare the
content, it contains the settings made in advanced dialog.

CS4 Photo Downloader imports photos in wrong order
I decided to give Photo Downloader a whirl with a batch of photos I took this weekend. I had about 400 photos spread over three cards, so I had them renamed with the date and a counter. I was using the high-speed drive mode on my camera (5Dmk2) and I noticed in one spot where I blew off a run of photos, Bridge imported them in some order other than the filename counter in the camera.
I was looking at about a half-dozen shots of someone shooting a basketball and noticed that it looked like the ball came out and then was shot again, something that didn't happen in the game. Fortunately, I had Bridge embed the original filename from the camera into the XMP data and sure enough, Photo Downloader screwed up the order of the photos.
How does Photo Downloader determine the proper order to download photos? There are no options to change the import order and the software clearly doesn't just read the filenames to get it sorted out.
Any ideas? Or just stop using Photo Downloader? Or do I have to download the files, then rename then in filename order in Bridge? It is a known issue that Photodownloader can't get this sort order right every time, the higher frequency of motordrive used the more it will screw up.
However when you don't use the rename function in downloader it will be more accurate. Feel also free to file a bug report about this using the contact button top right of this page, the more complaints the faster it will be repaired you would hope...).
I rarely have sessions with that high speed but it occurred to me also and using no rename did suit me :-)
You can then easily rename them in Bridge (also with more options) but it would be preferable that it worked right in downloader!
The ups for using downloader are still great, without this rename setting for speedy jobs you are still left with the possibility to keep the original filename (and disable that in the Bridge batch renaming option), convert to DNG, make a back up copy and add a metadata template in one go :-) -
CS3 Bridge Photo Downloader Problem
DNG Converter is Missing or corrupt. Reloaded CS3 and DNG Converter continues to be grayed out. Reloading message was: Errors: 1 component
X Adobe Photoshop CS3 Component Install Failed.
Anyone able to help how I can reinstate DNG converter to the Bridge Photo Downloader will be appreciated. The stand alone DNG converter works perfectly. Saving as a dng from within Camera Raw works perfectly also.
Here is the story from the beginning...maybe something is relevent. Everything had worked fine up until the week that I decided to install Nikon View that came with a point and shoot. Being a Canon shooter, I was merely curious about the "Dark Side" LOL. After the installation, when I would insert a memory card into my card reader, the Photo Downloader would not open automatically as before. Since the only change that I had made was the Nikon View installation, and since I had checked it out without finding anything useful, I uninstalled Nikon View. Photo Downloader still did not open automatically. I searched the internet for a solution. The first thing I tried was a reinstall (a repair actually) of CS3. No change. I did the reset procedure on Bridge and nothing changed. I finally figured out that the Auto Run settings in Windows XP had been changed somehow. I corrected that , and Photo Downloader opens automatically again. But the convert to dng is greyed out. This leads me to believe that maybe there is something missing in a folder belonging to Bridge, but I can not find anything obvious.
This is mainly a convenience issue. It is easier to convert to dng upon import, plus there are user definable dng settings that are available via Photo Downloader that are not in the free stand alone converter.
I appreciate any info and assistance. -
Bridge Photo Downloader Constantly Crashes
I've been experiencing Bridge Photo Downloader and Bridge crashes. Photo Downloader crashes instantly upon opening when my iPhone4 is plugged in. Bridge crashes randomly with no seeming pattern to the crashes.
Below is my Photo Downloader crash log.
I think I found a similar issue here:

Do you have any ideas what might be causing this and how to solve it?
Thanks,

Thanks for the idea. I tried that but it didn't work. The exact same problem happened again with what appears to be the same crash log: Thread 18 Crashing (see below for that specific section)
Additionally now in the last week I am experiencing Bridge crashing 1-3x/day regardless of the Photo Downloader.
Adobe, please advise.
Thanks

Photo Downloader - delete files from camera results in device is not connected or busy
Hi,
My user use Adobe Bridge CS6 since a few weeks. They also made a transition from Windows XP to Windows 7 (32 bit). All my users have the issue in Photo Downloader. They can download the pictures into their network folders, and when the import is completed Photo Downloader asks if the user wants to delete those pictures from the device or card reader. When the user clicks on Yes, it results in the (some what) following error: Device is not attached/connected or busy. Since we use the Dutch language it is a free translation ;-). Now my first thought was that maybe Windows sees the device as a Read Only device and that is why he can't delete those pictures. If so, I have to search for the solution in our policy's and USB/device management. But I am not familiar with Adobe Bridge.
Thanks!EJEskes wrote:

Sorry to be the messenger with bad news.
This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
See:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work. It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost. -
Adobe Photo Downloader stopped working; can't import from a DVD?
I use Premiere Elements 4 (loaded with Adobe Photoshop Elements 6) on Windows Vista.
When I attempt to import video from a DVD (via Get Media > DVD import) I am unable to do so and the message
ADOBE PHOTO DOWNLOADER HAS STOPPED WORKING is produced by Windows.
I would value any help with this problem!
Many thanks, Don VarleyhallWell, if it was produced in an Adobe program, then it should be 100% DVD-compliant. The menuing structure should not be an issue, as it can with other programs (Roxio and Nero come to mind), or from a DVR-DVD unit. I have never seen one of those that did a DVD-compliant disc.
This might point to something else going on.
As a test, grab, or create a short Project in PrE with Menus, and then Burn it to Disc. Test this back in PrE, and see if it behaves exactly the same way. If not, then something might be odd with your first disc, or there could be some other issue. If the Importer fails again, I'd think about doing a Repair Install.
If the test works, the first thing that I would do would be to Copy your DVD-Video. One can use the free burning utility, ImgBurn to do this, if they do not have Roxio, Nero or some other DVD Copy utility.
As a thought, there are a lot of other programs, that can get in the way of many operations in PrE. You might find some tips on setting up your computer for an editing session, in this ARTICLE. Then, test with your DVD again.
Good luck,

Convert to DNG not available in Bridge photo downloader?
All of a sudden when I try to upload RAW photos from my Nikon D5100, "Convert to DNG" is shown in grey and will not let me select it in the photo downloader. I am having to use an outside converter instead. Also, the Camera Raw application is acting up - not letting me open images with Command + R, not saving image ratings of 5 stars, etc. Any ideas on how to resolve these issues? I am guessing that they are linked...
It was all of a sudden...randomly and not after an upgrade as far as I am aware.
Since you mention 10.9.3 which is a recent update it may well be caused by this update. Read the article Yammer provided and try that. Also as described in earlier post, restart Bridge holding down option (alt) key and from the menu choose reset preferences.
But there have been some problems with recent ACR and DNG in photodownloader that should have been solved with latest ACR. So also try the manual download and install of the link Yammer provided. -
Problems with Bridge Photo Downloader CS6
I get the following error message when trying to use Photo Downloader in Bridge? Did not used to be that way, just started a few weeks ago and I have changed nothing on my iMac. Tried re-installing CS6 (I own a copy) and it fixed it for a few downloads but now it is doing the same thing as before. Any thoughts?
Can you attached the screen shot of the message? Did it say that some issue happens for your cache and need you to purge? OR did you press Opt key when you launch Bridge?
Thanks!

Photo Downloader does not detect Thunderbolt connection. Help!
I am using Bridge CS5.1 on MacBook OSX 10.8.3. I bought a Seagate Thunderbolt Adapter which works with 2.5" eSATA hard drives (Seagate Backup Plus). Instead of connecting a 2.5" eSATA to this Thunderbolt Adapter to my Mac, I am doubling this thunderbolt connection as a CF card reader by swapping the eSATA portable drive with a CF to eSATA Adapter instead. Photo Downloader does not detect anything connected through thunderbolt!?
When the CF card or portable drive is connected via the TB adapter, it appears in Bridge and Finder. The Canon's Image Browser (Memory Card Utility) detects only the CF card (not the portable drive) as a Camera and downloads the images from the CF card via the thunderbolt adapter with no issues. I would prefer Bridge to download the images due how the folder names are created by Bridge. (I have been using Bridge for few years now and dont want to change the naming convention. Can't seem to find a way for Canon to name it exactly the same as Bridge. It does YYYY_MM_DD amd I cant get rid of the underscores in Canon's software)
How can I get Photo Downloader (File: Get Photos from Camera...) on Bridge CS5.1 to detect the Thunderbolt connection as a Camera?
Excuse my messy desk, here's a pic of the set up with the CF card plugged into the CF to eSATA adapter : and onto the Seagate TB Adapter. and the TB cable goes into the MacIt works perfectly well. My issue is getting Adobe Bridge 5.1 to recognise the CF card via thunderbolt in photo downloader.
Despite having bought a MacPro just a few months ago I still have no Thunderbolt connection so i can't confirm this.
I do know Photodownloader has not changed a bit since it was presented long time ago and definitively needs a lot of improvement.
It is very possible that Photodownloader is not capable detecting thunderbolt connections and Canon software doing so does almost proof APDL does not do so.
You can try to dive in the user library (by default hidden, use menu Go and press option to reveal it) and in the folder preferences find and delete the Photodownloader plist file manual.
restart photodownloader and try again.
The other option is to use a USB 3.0 or Firewire (both also pretty fast).
The third option is to use Bridge itself for renaming the files you imported manual. Using the sort order creation date and batch rename use the option for shot date (yymmdd-number or other info) and either organize with stacks or create folders.
There is also a nice app (not free but cheap called 'big mean folder machine" from the same team that offers 'A better finder rename'.
Both offer plenty of options that makes life easier, such as producing folders with specific naming and order in no time
