Photo downloader - additional software?

I just installed the official release and noticed that an additional piece of software was installed automatically: Adobe Foto-Downloader (name with German OS), probably Photo-Downloader in English.
Is that software needed for Lightroom to function properly or can I deactivate it?
- Andrea

I believe his si the standard Adobe Downloader that also comes with PSCS for downloading upades to various things. Just does not play into LR on a Mac like it does on PCs.

  • Problem downloading additional softwares

    Hi everybody,
When I try to download SAP Add-in for Crystal Reports 2011 the following message appears:
Same problem with any other additional software or user.
    Does anyone know why?
    Thanks!

    Dear Castillo,
SAP is aware of this issue and will be fixed soon.
In the meanwhile, you can specify which add-in you are looking for and raise a support ticket (Incidents); they would share the link of the installer.

I have gotten about 4 emails (Frontier) with quick time attatchments, but it won't play them.  I just get a mesage saying it can't read it in the current format.  Do I need to download additional software and if so what?

You might try adding Perian.  It can help QT play a with a wide variety of formats.

The DVD recorder I'm referring to is one I've use for years. It is not attached to my aging iMac in any way. I simply play the video from my camcorder (mini-dv tape based Canon HV20)  into the DVD recorder and create a DVD that can be played in any DVD player. I can only do minimum editing so what goes in is what I get. This has been fine for creating dupes of the various things I shoot.
If I buy a new iMac (21 inch), I'd like to be able to download the video to the iMac through iMovie, work with it to whatever degree I wish, and burn it to a DVD that can also be played in any DVD player -- or to use as a master to dupe copies.
What I'm understanding from you and others is that this would be possible if Apple had included iDVD in the software that comes with the iMac, or if I purchase the iLife Family Pack, or buy the correct version of Toast. I'm hoping I can persuade Apple to sell me an iMac with iDVD installed.
Essentially I want to move from a basic process of creating DVD copies to the more sophisticated process of creating one from an iMac.
Thank you again for your help and wisdom.

I am using Aperture 3 now and I love it. But I would like to purchase or download perhaps some freeware, easy to use photo imaging/editing software with more filters, perhaps layering etc. I don't want something with a very steep learning curve, getting to old for that. My Apple mentor suggests Pixelmator or Gimp ? Are there some others out there? When I was still in the Windows world, I used Photoshop Elements but that is now in my past. Any ideas?

Pixelmator or Gimp are both nice tools for advanced image processing and compositing. I.e. Gimp can do pretty much the same as Phtoshop. You might also have a look at digikam  http://www.digikam.org/drupal/download/binary
Digikam is not just an advanced image processing and compositing program, it is also content management system like Aperture or iPhoto.
I also find GraphicConverter a nice tool, but it is not free.
If you want your image editing tools to integrate well with Aperture, I would look first at the available plug-ins, start with the plug-ins offered in the Aperture pull-down menu
    Aperture -> Aperture Plug-ins...

Yes 10.8.2 is the latest version of Mountain Lion. 10.7 was Lion and 10.6 was Snow Leopard.

I have a 3 year old MacBook Pro with MAC OSX 10.6.8, iPhoto ’09 version 8.1.2 and have downloaded two software programs: one is Aperture 3.2 and the other is Photoshop Elements 9 (which I got from a friend who didn’t need it).
I am totally happy with the way iPhoto organizes my photos and how I can work with iMovie to create slide shows with music from iTunes, etc.
I have been shooting mostly high resolution jpegs and I continue to learn more and more about photography, post processing etc. I realize that the small adjustments I can make in iPhoto are good, and are adequate most of the time. However, a have started to experiment with shooting RAW images and would like to go the next step, ie. post processing.I am totally technically challenged and need SIMPLE, INTUITIVE programs and am certainly NOT anywhere ready for Photoshop CS whatever!
After having these programs sit on my computer, I decided to try to see if I could figure them out. When I opened Aperture, this is what first comes up.
    “Welcome to Aperture 3.2
Your library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of Aperture. Once upgraded, you will not be able to use this library with previous versions of Aperture.
Upgrading a library from previous versions of Aperture 3 generally takes a few minutes or less, though larger libraries will take longer. After that, Aperture 3.2 will upgrade your library's thumbnails, but you can use the application during that time.
Tip: To open a different library, quit Aperture and hold the Option key down while starting Aperture
    Current Library Location:
    Jadzia (home)   -----Pictures------Aperture Library
                                                      QUIT             UPGRADE”
I have heard horror stories  about moving your entire library to Aperture, ending up with 2 libraries, etc. etc. hence my previous reluctance in attempting Aperture. In addition, many of my photography friends are saying: Go with Lightroom 3.....you’ll love it!
So here is my dilemma.  I don’t want to mess around with my iPhoto library. All I want to be able to do, is to isolate a few photos, export them to Aperture, Elements, and work on them there, then bring them back into iPhoto.
Can I do this? Should I forget about Aperture and Elements and look at purchasing yet another program like Lightroom?

Export those few photos via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with Kind = Original to the Desktop.  Then import them into the Aperture library. That would keep one copy in your iPhoto library and another in your Aperture library to edit, etc.
You can use Photoshop Elements 9 from within iPhoto as your editor of choice. However, if you edit a raw file in iPhoto with PSE9 the resulting edited version must be saved outside the iPhoto Library and imported back in as a new file.  For editing jpegs just do a Save (not a Save As) and it all will be kept within iPhoto.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • Adobe Bridge CC -- ongoing problems with Photo Downloader (scrolling, crashing, etc)

    Hello Community,
Thanks in advance for any suggestions to improve my Bridge CC experience! I have recurring problems, esp. when using the Photo Downloader (in other words, daily problems) -- scrolling either up or down to select photos is a nightmare, as the scrolling either jumps or stops without rhyme or reason, making the photo selection process tedious and maddening. Additionally, if I spend more than a few minutes selecting which photos to load to my computer (i.e., from iPhone), Bridge crashes.
I have been using Bridge for about a decade, and never EVER had a single problem with it until CC. I have a 2013 MacBook Pro, all software updated, etc. No fancy bells or whistles, no peripherals, etc... Just trying to get my pictures from phone and tablet to the computer.
    Many thanks.

    Moving discussion to Bridge forum.

  • Adobe Bridge Photo Downloader Results without using Photo Downloader

I always used the Photo Downloader to download files, rename them and organize them into folders named by date.
I recently upgraded to a Network Attached Storage device that has a USB Port directly on the front of it and allows me to dump all my camera files straight onto the external hard drive. However, it does not rename them - so it uses the raw file names that the camera assigns them and doesn't organize them in any way.
This is really handy for me as I don't have to copy 16gb of photos across a wireless network when I want to clear out a memory card. However, I haven't found a way to organize the files after the fact.
Is there any way to have Adobe Bridge (or any other Mac software!) go through those files and move/rename them the same way that Photo Downloader always did directly from the camera? How?
    Thanks!

If you are sure your files have the metadata, in other words you can place your memory card into a reader and the information is there,
next step, is a total Bridge Preferences reset
Start Adobe Bridge and immediately press Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS) until the Reset Settings dialog box appears. Select all three options--Reset Preferences, Reset Standard Workspaces, and Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache--and then click OK.

  • CS4 Photo Downloader imports photos in wrong order

I decided to give Photo Downloader a whirl with a batch of photos I took this weekend. I had about 400 photos spread over three cards, so I had them renamed with the date and a counter. I was using the high-speed drive mode on my camera (5Dmk2) and I noticed in one spot where I blew off a run of photos, Bridge imported them in some order other than the filename counter in the camera.
I was looking at about a half-dozen shots of someone shooting a basketball and noticed that it looked like the ball came out and then was shot again, something that didn't happen in the game. Fortunately, I had Bridge embed the original filename from the camera into the XMP data and sure enough, Photo Downloader screwed up the order of the photos.
How does Photo Downloader determine the proper order to download photos? There are no options to change the import order and the software clearly doesn't just read the filenames to get it sorted out.
Any ideas? Or just stop using Photo Downloader? Or do I have to download the files, then rename then in filename order in Bridge?

It is a known issue that Photodownloader can't get this sort order right every time, the higher frequency of motordrive used the more it will screw up.
However when you don't use the rename function in downloader it will be more accurate. Feel also free to file a bug report about this using the contact button top right of this page, the more complaints the faster it will be repaired you would hope...).
I rarely have sessions with that high speed but it occurred to me also and using no rename did suit me :-)
You can then easily rename them in Bridge (also with more options) but it would be preferable that it worked right in downloader!
The ups for using downloader are still great, without this rename setting for speedy jobs you are still left with the possibility to keep the original filename (and disable that in the Bridge batch renaming option), convert to DNG, make a back up copy and add a metadata template in one go :-)

  • I have an HP 3250 e allin one printer. I have downloaded tie software on to my Mac Book air. When I try to print the MacBook shows it is printing but nothing happens at the printer. What is wrong?

I have ab HP 3250 e all in one printer. I have downloaded the software and installed on my Mac Book Air running OS X Mavericks. When  I try to print from the Mac Book it shows that it is printing but nothing happens at the printer end.  Why?
For some reason I cannot synch my iPhone notes with the Mac Book. How dodo I do this?
How do I change my primary email address on the Mac Book?

    Hello Bruarong,
It sounds like you are unable to print to your printer from Mac OS X Lion. I recommend the troublehsooting from the article named:
Troubleshooting printer issues in OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3147
Follow these steps until the issue is addressed:
Make sure that the printer is powered on, has ink / toner, and that there are no alerts on the printer’s control panel. Note: If you cannot clear an alert on the printer's control panel, stop here and check the printer's documentation or contact the manufacturer for support.
Ensure the printer is properly connected to a USB port on the Mac or AirPort base station / Time Capsule. If the printer is a network-capable printer, make sure that it is properly connected to your home network.
Use Software Update to find and install the latest available updates. If an update is installed, see if the issue persists.
Open the Print & Scan pane or Print & Fax (Snow Leopard) pane in System Preferences.
Delete the affected printer, then add the printer again.
If the issue persists, try these additional steps:
Reset the printing system, then add the printer again.
If the issue still persists, reset the printing system again.  Download and install your printer's drivers. Then, add the printer again.
Contact the printer vendor or visit their website for further assistance.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • CS4 Photo downloader - can I change the default path?

I'm using Bridge on Windows 7 x64. I have 2 hard drives exclusively for photographs. I never, ever store them in 'C:\Users\Mary\Pictures'.   But when I download images with the Photo Downloader, C:\Users\Mary\Pictures' is the folder I'm offered. There's no box in which to paste a folder string - and it takes 9 clicks (including a couple in the scroll bar of the dialog box) to navigate to 'S:\Pictures, Initial\2 - Initial Negative Scans\2010 Initial Scans\[current subfolder]'.  Is there any way of making the downloader believe that I always want to download to S:\Pictures,  Initial\2 - Initial Negative Scans\2010 Initial Scans\....? I'm used to editing the Registry, but I can't find anything to edit in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Bridge CS4\Preferences.  Thanks  Mary

Curt  You're right, it is something in Win 7.
I remembered that I have CS4 on my laptop, which is still running WinXP, and tried the Photo Downloader there. It had remembered the last folder I pointed it to, way back in September.
I then found a note telling myself what I had done to stop Bridge from using the c:\docs & settings\.....my pictures folder in XP. I'd used a utility that changes your default pictures, videos, etc., folders to whatever you want them to be.
I never keep anything in them, so I  used the utility in Win 7  to change the default Pictures folder to 'S:\Z\ Pictures'.  When I opened Bridge Photo Downloader, the 'location' folder was  now 'S:\Z\ Pictures'. I navigated from there to 'S:\Pictures,  Initial\2 - Initial Negative Scans\2010 Initial Scans', created a subfolder, uploaded some raw files from the card reader, closed Bridge, and rebooted.
When I re-opened Bridge and the Photo Downloader, it still pointed to my last used folder. Triumph!
Thanks for your help. I wouldn't have got there without it.
I'll look on the Windows 7 forum to find out whether there's a less drastic way of doing this. After all, some people may want to keep their C:\Users\[user]\Pictures folder for non-Photoshop pix. There should be a way of doing it.
    Mary

  • Bridge photo downloader not searchable in windows

I am using CS6 and Windows8. I'm having troubles with the Photo Downloader:
If I use Photo Downloader to download images (either With or Without Metadata template applied on import) and apply additional (or new) keywords they are NOT searchable in Windows.  I can right click and see them in the properties detail window but searching with these keywords does not provide any results. Weird!
If I drag and drop pictures into a folder and then apply keywords I can then go into Windows and search on those keywords.
I've tried it with my two different cameras so it isn't camera dependent.  Any suggestions on what is going on and how to fix it?  I'd really like to use the metadata on import as well as the DNG converter all at once.  It's so nice!  But, if in windows you can't search on the tags it make searching (for those who don't have bridge, etc) impossible.

    Am I missing something?  I have CS4
Can't think of anything, have CS5 installed but basically Photodownloader is the same as in CS4 (and CS3). Tried to switch the sort order in Bridge CS5 to descending and check APD again but it still shows the good sorting order with first shot first renamed.
Can't find any setting in APD to change this behavior. Assuming you have set the advanced dialog, renaming files set to shot date (in my case yyyymmdd + sequence number?
Usually when behavior changes all of a sudden reseting preferences might help (as well as check and repair permissions for OSX using Apple disk utility).
First try this: Quit Bridge and APD and from user library preferences folder find an manual delete the file called "com.adobe.photodownloader.plist" (it will recreate itself with a fresh default one after restarting APD)
Then use check and repair disk permissions for OSX
Then restart Bridge and Photodownloader, see if the sort order is now changed to ascending If so set Photodownloader again to your custom wishes.
    Hope this helps.
And btw, what files are you using to download and do you use a card reader or have you connected the camera directly to your computer?
