Photo Downloader and .nef files

I can no loner import .nef files via the Photo Downloader. It is only importing .jpg which I rarely shoot. How can I change this?
Thank you

Several users have reported problems with NEF files. This is often due to usage in Nikon software e.g. older versions of Nikon Transfer which can corrupt the raw files. I assume this is not the case and you are simply using the PSE downloader? I can only suggest you copy to a folder and then to try importing directly. PSE11 is certainly compatible with your camera; so I'm glad you got the update to work.

  • FireFox 4 and earlier versions will not install on my Windows Vista, 64 bit computer. The file downloads and the file extracts but I never make it to the installation wizard.

I have tried to download FireFox 4 and earlier versions from several different website, thinking the files might have gotten corrupted, and each time I download the file the exact same thing happens, the file downloads and the file gets extracted but when the extraction completes the small window dissappears and nothing else happens.
My machine is a Windows Vista 64 bit system and I've tried downloading the file with my 32 and 64 bit Internet Explorer but nothing seems to work. Can someone help me please because I would love to be able to completely delete I.E.

Hi, thanks for your Flash file info. Well you must have been doing it right, since all of your Flash files for IE and FF are correct.
The SWF plugin for FF and the SWO for IE are also correct.
You shouldn't be having any problems with Flash Player.
What you can try is to turn off the hardware acceleration feature. Go to any video, like youtube and right click on the video and click on Settings. Display Settings is where you will UN check hardware acceleration.
See if that helps. Let me know.
    Thanks,

  • IPhone 4 OS crashes Adobe Bridge's Photo Downloader and Nikon Transfer

Ever since I updated my old iPhone 3G to the new OS4, it crashed Adobe Bridge's Photo Downloader, and I don't like to use iPhoto, so I won't. I haven't for years. I just bought the iPhone 4 fully expecting that the non-Apple photo utilities would get pictures off the camera, but no dice. The iPhone 4 crashes dobe Bridge's Photo Downloader too. I HATE using iPhoto for offloading. I wonder when Apple will deal with this.

2 days ago I had my iPhone G3S with OS 4.02 attached by usb cord to load on songs from iTunes which was open. I opened up Bridge to offload photos from the iPhone. My computer froze and I had to force quit it with the off/start button. Since then even though I have completely uninstalled and then reinstalled the Adobe CS4 suite, Bridge still refuses to open and crashes every time. I reported the problem to Apple. I think this problem is not isolated and a bit more serious than first thought.
I hate the idea of reinstalling every thing and still not solving the problem.

  • Sharing Photo, Video and Music files

My new iMac has arrived and I'm looking forward to transferring across all my files at the weekend and to starting to use it.
We use the computer as a family computer although we have different accounts on the computer. I would like to enable all members of the family to have access to all photo, video and music files when they are signed into their individual accounts and using iLife.
My question is this: where should I place these files to enable common access. At the moment they are stored under my user name and therefore only I can access them. A slight refinement on this is that although I want to encourage the kids to use iLife and develop their skills in this area, I want to make sure that they don't delete/alter any of the original files so would ideally like them to save any changes they make in a new file under their accounts.
    Hopefully this makes sense!

    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
To protect your own user account:
Create a new Account on your Mac, call it Media. Create an iPhoto Library there. (BTW: This will work for iTunes too.)
Enable Sharing on the Library:(Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other accounts. In those accounts, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. The Library will appear in the other source pane.
This means that both users will be able to see the pics. If you want to use a pic then simply drag it from the shared Library to your own in the iPhoto Window. This means that each user can have their own edits.
If you want to add photos to the Library: Log into the Media account for that purpose.
To make it all seamless: Set your Mac to log into the Media Account automatically. Set iPhoto to launch on log-in. Then switch to your own account using Fast User Switching.
Net result: a Library that's permanently available to all users but also protected. Each user can have their own versions of the pics if they want.

    Hi, everyone
How to download and upload files in Java? Do you have some references about this issue or some valuable web link? Thanks!

This is too vague a question, please be more specific. What protocol would you like to use? HTTP? FTP? Something else?

  • Elements Organizer shows different timestamps in JPEG and NEF files of the same photo

    Hi,
I generally use the option of my Nikon D5000 to store pictures in NEF and JPEG format. While both files show the same time stamp under properties - as one may expect (click on a photo, press right mouse button, last entry of context menu "show properties"), Photoshop Elements Organizer 9 shows different time stamps (when option "details" is chosen in menu "view"). The NEF-file always has a time stap which is exactly two hours later than the time stamp of the corresponding JPEG-file and which - as mentioned - does not correspond to the time stamp stored within the piuctures properties entries. Does anybody has an idea how to change this? Or might this be a bug of the software?
    Thanks

Yes.  Create a smart album with the criteria Photo is RAW:
Then you can select all of the photos in the smart album and use the Events ➙ Create Event menu option to move all of the RAW photos into a new event.

  • BRIDGE CS3 - No thumbnails in Photo Downloader and no convert to dng

I just installed Windows 7 and CS3. I also ran AdobeBridge 1.0.4 updater.
I no longerhave thumbnail previews in the Bridge Photo Downloader, or in Bridge, and the Convert to PNG does not work. I am also now unadble to even open my .NEF files. I get a message in Photoshop saying it's 'not the right type of file'. I am a photographer and this has been my workflow for years. Please help.
    Thanks!

If you are just talking about RAW thiumbnails it is usuallly one of 2 problems.
You have more than one file in the folder.
You have the ACR in the wrong folder.  It goes in Program Files/COMMON FILES/Adobe/plug-ins/cs3/file formats.

  • Lightroom 5.4 problem importing older crw and nef files

Built new computer. Fresh install of Photoshop Lightroom 5.4. Imported photos to lightroom 5.4. After import session completed noted some folders in catalog had zero photos. Checked folders in explorer and photos/files are present. Able to open and view photos/files in Photoshop cs5.
Files are raw files format  from canon G1 CRW and Nikon d70 NEF.
Any ideas? How do I proceed? Should I download and install the free Adobe DNG Converter? But these are old cameras?
    thanks

Thanks for the reply. No the files were not list in a LR Catalog anywhere on the computer. I was able to import the missing files by right clicking on the empty folder in the LR Catalog, selected the import to folder option. This opened the import LR Window, I deselected the "duplicate option" . This allowed the files to become visible, not the usual grayed out thumbnails usually seen if attempting to import a duplicate. Once I selected the raw files LR imported them to the folder. I did get a LR message stating that a "smart preview already was present for files.
If LR was able to verify a smart preview for the files from a previous import, why were the folders in LR displaying a 0 for files/photos?
I am in the process of reviewing the LR Catalog to ensure everything was imported.

  • Win7, CS4 and NEF files

I've been using CS4 with XP for about 7months with no problems. I installed Win7 a few days ago and now seem to have an issue. Many of my Nikon raw files, nef, do not open in PS or Br. The icons don't show with a image in Br, just the generic NEF icon image. Some of my older NEF files work, but none of my recently taken photo files in RAW work. When I open a folder with RAW files, sometimes they show briefly then change to the generic image and won't open. I'm running CS4 with all settings to default.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance...Jack

Hmmm...I guess I'm getting old. I had reinstalled CS4 Design Suite and still had the problem. Then I checked for updates, and I downloaded them. I just did not notice the window behind the other windows that said there was a problem with the install. So, I reloaded the updates and rebooted. When I went back to my folders with raw files, they updated. It was my impression, they were doing this in the order in which they were created. So if when I checked a recent folder, nothing updated. But when I went back to the oldest folder they started to update to show the icon and be opened in ACR and Ps. Thanks for your help. I'm glad this worked because when I looked in the Plug-ins...I had a ton of them because I do have some plugin programs loaded.
    Thanks again!

  • Ipod Photo storage and Windows Files

Slightly technical question: I download photos from my Canon camera (EOS 300D) to my Ipod. Then upload to my computer and a file is created in Windows (My pictures) using the date the photos are taken.
When I want to delete the photos from My Pictures I can delete individual photos but not the whole folder which claims 'cannot delete zb.thumbnail.info:it is being used by another person or program....'
There is no problem with deleting all photos / folders in the ipod.
Is there any camera / computer / ipod techie out there who can suggest a way of deleting these unwanted folders in my computer?

Thanks for the reply. The only problem will be that after a time I will end up with lots of empty folders cluttering up my pictures so it would be nice to get rid of them.
Do you know how to find out what programme it is linked too and if there is a way round it that means I can still delete them?
    Best wishes,
    Robert

  • CS1 and NEF files

I'm having a similar issue as the person using CS4.    I know it's compatability.
I'm using iPhoto 9 (for storage & organization primarily) and Photoshop CS1 (yes, the first CS).  It's easy to figure out how to make iPhoto open the RAW files in an external editor (PS) - just checking a couple boxes in Preferences.
The message I get when trying to open RAW files is "could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."
My camera is a Nikon D3200.  The version of the Camera Raw plug-in I have is 2.0.
From searching through this site I've determined:
    1) CS1 is compatible with raw plug-in versions 2.0-2.4
    2) The minimum plug-in required for my D3200 is 7.1
    3) The DNG converter provides backward compatability for free in PS CS2, etc.   Why not CS1?
    4) But to use the DNG converter, on one of the site pages, it says I need plug-in 2.3 or later.
    5) See #1.  Does this mean, if I can find a copy of plug-in 2.3 (allegedly compatible with CS1), I can make this workflow successful?
I cannot afford to upgrade to a new version of PS - got no money.  How can I get a copy of the 2.3 plug-in?  How can I make my NEF files play nice with CS1?
    Thanks!

If you downloaded and installed the mac version of the 2.4 camera raw in cs, then you also need the 7.4 dng converter to convert your
Nikon D3200 camera raw files to dng copies and then you can open the dng files into photoshop cs.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5568
You might have to use one of the compatibilty settings under Change Preferences>Compatibility in the dng converter so the dngs will open in photoshop cs.
So you might experiment with a file or two before converting all the files.

  • Elements 6.0 (Mac) and NEF Files

Does there exist a set of instructions regarding Elements handling of NEF images?  I see from a number of discussion threads that the issue of Elements not reading NEF files is somewhat common. But no where does thewre seem to be a consistent solution.
Some say I must update the Camera Raw file.  Others say it should work, as is.  Others say I'll have to update the plug-ins. The Elements user manual says to simply open the file.  Pardon me if my frustration is showing  but there seems to be a ton of conflicting information.
I have a 1 year old iMac with the latest OS upgrades, a new Nikon D90, and the trial version of Elements 6, downloaded 3 days ago.   When I try to open a NEF image I get the error message saying the file type is not recognized.
I'm reluctant to spend money for Adobe support on a product I'm just auditioning. Can anyone tell me if a single source of information exists telling me what I should do?  I'm comfortable with Elements and would like to stay with it, but not if I have to go through a great deal of trouble.  Thanks for any help.

The trial version of elements contains a very old ACR plug-in. You need to update it. You can't update PSE from the Adobe updater. You must go here, download ACR and install it per the instructions given.

  • Working jpg AND nef files - help please

I've got zillions (okay tens of thousands) of jpg files. I just got Lightroom today and I just started shooting nef+jpgfine with my D300 two weeks ago. Before then it was no RAW at all for me.
I'm trying to figure out how to approach my workflow for the future. I still suspect that, when I shot school functions, taking hundreds of photos, 90+% of the jpgs straight out of the camera will be perfect as is. For some small percentage of shots I will want to change them, so I can tweak the raw (or the jpg) files in the future.
    1. If I have a folder with just jpgs, LR is happy to import those. But I have a folder with both jpgs and nefs in them, LR only allows me to import the nefs. First question: How do I do this, i.e. import both types into LR?
    2. Here is my most basic (and my second) question, assuming I want to continue shooting BOTH raw and jpg, which I do, how do I use LR to manage the files?
    3. For example, the first thing I want to do is to delete unwanted photos, which will have files of both types in the folder. How do I go about this using LR and without exiting to the Windows file manager to manually delete the jpgs?

    >First question: How do I do this, i.e. import both types into LR?
On Import Tab of Preferences window, check "Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos".
    >.... how do I use LR to manage the files?
In grid view, you can get Lightroom to display filename and type on the frame around each photo in Grid view. Use CTRL+J or View->View Options to choose what you display.
Generally, the grid view will show .jpg and .nef versions of file next to each other, so when you want to delete a particular photo it is easy to select both the .jpg and .nef versions.
You could also do a Find with Text: Filename, Rule: Ends With, .JPG (or .NEF) in the search box to find all your .jpg (or .nef) files and work only with the .jpg or .nef files.
    >the first thing I want to do is to delete unwanted photos, which will have files of both types in the folder. How do I go about this using LR and without...
Select them in grid view and delete. (but you should display filename and file type on the grid frame to make selection easier). Choose Delete from Disk on pop-up window if you want them removed from catalog and sent to recycle/trash.
I am sure that others will offer other suggestions, but all that you want to do can be done in Lightroom.
