Photo Downloader CS5 - Generic Flower Icon

Just upgraded to CS5 about two weeks ago.  I am using Photo Downloader to download my photos from a CF reader.  All images on the CF are JPEGS (no Raw).  Noticed today while the download was running, after a few hundred images had downloaded, the thumbnail previews turned into a generic flower icon.  Is this something to be concered about?  I never noticed this before as normally I start the download and don't pay much attention to it while it's running.  I re-ran the download using Mac's Image Capture and watched everything until it ended - all the previews on Image Capture displayed as normal thumbnail previews of the images.
Thank you for any feedback!
Regards,
Will

Well, I think I answered my own question.  If you go into Advanced Dialog, many of the preview thumbnails towards the end have hourglass icons.  If you wait until all the hourglass icons are replaced by the preview thumbnail and then go back to Standard Dialog and start the download, you won't see the generic flower icon.  I guess the prevews are not generated fast enough to keep up with the download.

  • Cover Flow won't show JPG preview, only generic JPG icon

    Hello,
For some reasons, I don't see JPGs in Cover Flow mode. I can see them in Quick Finder no problem.
I tried the following and toggle the on/off the feature without success: Go to Finder, open a window, and click View>Show View Options. From there, CHECK "Show Item Preview," then click "Use as Defaults."
I exported photos from iPhoto into my desktop but I get the same result. Only generic jpg icon.
BTW, PDFs are fine, excel, word are all fine....
    Any idea?

    A reboot solved the problem.
I guess this is the workaround for now...

  • HT201317 The photo stream flower icon is not showing up on my icloud account?! Why?

The photo stream flower icon is not showing up on my icloud account.  The only icons are Mail, contacts, calendar and iwrok.  What can I do??

Basically Apple actually took away the Gallery capability we used to have with me.com when they replaced it with Photo Stream. So there is no way to see on the web, nor send a URL to friends to share the pictures like you used to be able to do with Gallery. To do that, you will need to push those photos to an external service such as Snapfish or Flickr or a social media site.

    Thanks!

There was a bug in CS5.1 is this the version you are using?  If so here is a solution from a past thread.
If you want to maintain the Downloader dialog preferences (advanced dialog, metadata, etc.) the answer is in the thread referenced previously, but from what I've found, here's a little clarification.
N.B. This is for Windows 7 x64 (Home premium, but probably the same for Pro/Ultimate). This may work for macs too (change directory of course)
    1) Create a new folder called "Bridge CS5" (leave the Bridge CS5.1 folder at least for now. you may want to redirect your cache)
              EX: C:\Users\[Your USER NAME HERE]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge CS5
    2) Copy the "APDPreferences.xml" file -  if you have one - from the Bridge CS5.1 folder to the new "Bridge CS5" folder you just created (should be the only required file  in the folder). It's OK to leave the folder empty too.
    3) Make your changes to the downloader dialog, save a file or two, exit normally.
When you open it again, it should return to the defaults you just set up.

  • CS5 Bridge Photo Downloader Question

    Hello-
Whenever I download NEF files from my Nikon D300 I get two files per image eg. DSC1901.NEF and DSC1901.xmp
I don't understand the purpose of the .xmp file, I've never had this happen using the Nikon software.
If I trash the .xmp I see no change in any processing I do to the original file. This seems to be bothersome to me, can I stop CS5 Photo Downloader from importing the .xmp files? It's a huge amount of extra files to save when I don't access these .xmp's & cumbersome selecting through hundreds of newly downloaded files selecting the NEF's from the .xmp's. How do I stop these .xmp's from showing up in my downloaded NEF folders??? Thanks...

  • CS5 Bridge & Photo Downloader Bug/Feature Request

Not sure if this is the right place to post this. Hopefully Adobe reads through this forum.
With CS4, my camera download workflow required using Image Capture, DNG Converter, and Bridge. With CS5, I can now perform the same workflow all in Bridge. I love it! Thanks Adobe. There seems to be a couple of bugs though. When importing with the new Photo Downloader, I do a "Rename Files" along with a "Convert To DNG." (part of my workflow has always been to back up the original NEFs and also the converted DNGs. You can never backup too much). Well with CS5, the NEFs get renamed and converted to DNGs but the renamed NEFs disappear. I'm left with the original camera-named NEFs which I then have to rename through Bridge's "Batch Rename" so that I can keep them matched to the DNGs. Adobe, you are missing the "Keep Original Files" for the "Convert to DNG" menu.
Also, the renaming sequence doesn't seem to update itself for the next import like it does in "Batch Rename" (which I always loved).
Anyways, thanks for the Photo Downloader. It saves me several steps.

Well, I have to retract my kudos for the Photo Downloader. I have gone back to my previous workflow of using Image Capture, DNG Converter, and Batch Rename. Photo Downloader has proven to be very unreliable with importing files in sequential order. And its inability to append past numbering is frustrating.

  • Photos now carry generic icons instead of a the actual picture

While taking screenshots one day, I noticed that all the pictures on my desktop had that ugly, generic picture icon (you know, the sheet of paper with the picture of Preview's icon on it?) instead of the mini copy of the actual photo they usually do. I went back through my pictures folder and half of them retained their cute little copy of themselves, and the other half are the generic blank.
    WHY?!
I didn't realize how useful this feature was until this happened, and I want it back! Other types of files that generally do this, like PDFs remain thankfully unharmed. Help, please

OK, this seems the closest thread to what's going on here. I've got a late-2008 Macbook Pro, 10.5.8. Icons on the desktop and in finder windows are showing generic icons instead of the application-specific ones. Funny thing is, if I do a relaunch of the Finder (option-click/hold Finder icon in dock to bring up the menu), the specific icons will show up, but after a second or two will switch back to the generic ones. ??

  • How Do I Remove Photo Downloader Icon from the notification area (system tray)

Yes, this should be simple, but I'm baffled. Can the icon be permanently removed, or at least when when the Album Starter is not in use... other than clicking on "exit" which only brings it back when the computer is restarted without removing the program?

From ; Terence ONeill - UK
KILLING ADOBE PHOTO DOWNLOADER AND TRAY ICON.
Easy ! I use Comodo Pro Firewall.
    1) Click on DEFENSE box.
    2) Click on "View Active Process List"
    3) Look down the list of processes. Find APDPROXY.EXE.
    4) Click it, then click "Terminate and Quarantine"
    5) ALL DONE ! No more icon in tray and the program is killed.
APDPROXY - This is lurking about, you can find it on SEARCH from the START button. BUT, you cannot delete it or move it and MSCONFIG does not work. You can disable it as many times as you like - it will keep coming back.
SOLUTION ! Download CCleaner, it is a great little program and free.
Using this you can click on TOOLS, then STARTUP. A list of programs are shown which are enabled at STARTUP. Disabling does not work, just click on APDPROXY and click DELETE. It`s GONE !
All over in a flash - no more ADOBE PHOTO DOWNLOADER.

  • Bridge CS5 Photo Downloader will not rename files

I choose Custom Name + Shot Date but Photo Downloader ignores this
and transfers files as MG+4 numbers. I can't even get a sequencial number even though I choose one
Before in CS4 I used this option with success.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks
    Dave Harman

Are you using a card reader for file transfer?
If not buy  one as it provides better transfer operation than from camera.

  • CS5  bridge photo downloader

Why does the photo downloader close all of the image files from which I am selecting files for downloader once the selected files have been donloaded?  I have to then start again, and wait for all of the image file thumbnails to once again open.

It would be much more effecient to use the bridge photo downloader with the options of selecting a specific folder and custom name for the images being downloaded.
I can only confirm your concern about the lack of development regarding Photodownloader. It has much potential but needs improvement to make it a key feature for us photographers.
The slow building of thumbs is one of the major flaws. Sadly enough since it was introduced Photodownloader has not changed a bit (and while Bridge is now 64 bit, on my Mac APDL still proofs to be 32 bit…)
Meanwhile a faster workflow would be like Curt provided, download the lot and use Bridge filter panel and date created sort option to move them in to separate folders. At this moment that is a much quicker workflow then restarting and selecting the files in APDL every single time you need a different folder :-0

  • Photo Downloader Shows Nonexistent Images

Unfortunately, my Mac system shut down during the process of downloading images from one of my cameras.  The data on the SD card was corrupted but I was able to retrieve the files using a non-Adobe utility.  Then I did a low-level formatting of the SD card in the camera.  But now the Photo Downloader in Bridge is showing generic icons for the deleted images (with sequence numbers), while telling me that it "cannot obtain files from this device."  So Bridge has found itself in a Catch 22.  I don't see an option for correcting this situation.  "Refresh list" does not fix this. There is no delete option either.  I have not yet tried to purge the Bridge cache because that would delete the information for all the image folders that Bridge has processed (anyway, that's how I understand it).  If purging the cache is the answer, it is too bad that there is not a "purge cache for most recent download" option.  But I'm asking, is purging the cache the solution, and the only solution?  Thanks.

So where is the bad data?  Is it in the overall Bridge cache?  Should I purge
that cache?  At this point, that's the only step that seems available.
Photodownloader is not able to view Bridge cache, it only imports files from
external sources and Bridge cache is to my knowledge not connected in any
way with Photodownloader, those cache files only reflect the contents of the
disks you have pointed Bridge to.
First thing for you to try is quit both Bridge and Photodownloader, then go
to the user library preferences folder and find the plist file for
Photodownloader ( com.adobe.photodownloader.plist). Drag this file to the
trash and restart Bridge and Photodownloader to try again.
Second option is to format your SD card again (in camera as you indicated
have done before) but no need for low level formatting this time.
Also a hard reset for your camera is something I can think off (while on and
active remove batteries from the camera and put them back again ), kind of a
wild shot but it helped me several times when there was an error given on
    the camera.
There seems to be a programming flaw in the Photo Downloader.  It should not
create a dead end like this.
Have to admit Downloader needs attention from the programmers, it hasn't
been changed much since its creation. And it has a lot of potential and is
    far underestimated in IMHO :-).
However it is not easy to make an application proof for every thinkable
disaster human being is capable of...
And it proofs again that the use of a separate card reader is by far
preferable above direct connection with the camera

  • Unable to launch photo shop cs5.1

I have tried to launch my photo shop CS5.1 with no success.  Message stated that I had to uninstall it and then reinstall it  but
first had to download Java SE6.   I installed Java for OX 2014-001 which it says supersedes  all previous versions of Java
Went back to PS suite.  there is now a box on website  which includes icons of all PS suite. Also an icon that says
UNINSTALL.  Right next to it there is an icon box  with an arrow. Guess that means to reinstall PS.
I then went into Photoshop.com. adobe and read the complaint blogs. There are many that relate to this situation
One says:  "An unexpected  and unrecoverable problem has occurred. Photoshop will now exit. "
There are several comments similar to this.
I do not want to lose PS.  What do I do if Photo Shop  "EXITS?"??????

Confused.  Adobe usually does not provide a download link for out of date products.

  • When I create a New Folder (on the desktop or in Finder), the system uses the Generic Document Icon instead of the Generic Folder Icon. How can I change this back?

When I create a New Folder (on the desktop or in Finder), the system uses the Generic Document Icon instead of the Generic Folder Icon. How can I change this back?
All of a sudden I noticed that most of the folders on my computer were no longer using the folder icon, but the generic document icon. I had to manually change back the icon being used by opening Get Info for each folder and copying and pasting the generic folder icon from some folders that remained unchanged. Now whenever I create a New Folder (right click -> "New Folder"), the icon that shows up is the generic document icon (white page with top right corner turned down). And I have to manually change it so it shows up as a folder in Finder or on my desktop. I don't know why or how this switch happened. All of the folders now on my computer look ok, but I need to change the default so when I create a New Folder it uses the correct icon.
I have also Forced Relaunch of my Finder and rebooted the system. I downloaded Candybar but am not sure what will fix anything, so I haven't proceeded.
Anyone know how I can do this? Thanks.

    Anyone?

  • Photo Downloader doesn't retain previous settings (again)

Please see previous post because this issue involves Photo Downloader and ACR.
    I'm using 10.6.8, CS5.1 and Bridge 4.1.0.54
I have just reloaded Camera Raw 6.4.1 due to the bug in ACR 6.5 that prevents selecting a destination folder in Photo Downloader and causing  Bridge to freeze.
6.4.1 solves the freeze problem, but now it's back to the problem that none of the settings in Advanced Dialog are retained, nor does Photo Downloader default to Advanced Dialog anymore.  I've added the CS5 folder as before (User/Library/Application Support/Adobe) alongside the existing CS5.1 folder, but it hasn't solved the problem.  Is there a new solution to this yet?
6.4.1 works fine on my MBP using the above workaround (CS5 folder added).  Because I now have a dozen new student iMacs to set up, my three-part second question is: has ACR 6.6 been tested for these two bugs; should I wait before setting up the iMacs; how long before ACR 6.6 is officially released?

Thanks Omke.  I¹ll try that next time I¹m in the lab.  However, on my
MacBook Pro I checked the CS5.1 folder, and there is no ³APDPreferences.xml²
in that location (it is there in CS5 folder but I couldn¹t open it).  On the
iMacs, I¹m only running CS5.1.  Is there a different location for it in
    CS5.1?
I¹m wondering if I¹m the only one running Mac OS 10.6.8, Bridge 4.1.0.54 and
ACR 6.5 who¹s having this problem?

      It¹s baffling,
That is to put it mildly you mean, can't imagine that is the only word that
came to your mind...   Have you tried to repair permissions for OSX
again? I don't have the 5.5 installed so can't compare but if one system
does work, another not and you have compared both files and folders
existence in the two systems  it does seem to be OS related to me? There is
    also a file called "APDPreferences.xml" (user/library/Application Support/
Adobe/Bridge CS5) Can you open the files on both systems and compare the
content, it contains the settings made in advanced dialog.

  • I just noticed that some of the movies I had in iTunes did not get transferred to the iPhone. The missing movies are shown as generic movie icons in the iTunes panel. How do I get the original movies to show up again and transfer to the iPhone?

I just noticed that some of the movies I had in iTunes did not get transferred to the iPhone 5. The missing movies are shown as generic movie icons in the iTunes panel and are checked to select them. But they do not show up in iPhone Videos. How do I get the original movies to show up again and transfer to the iPhone? I recently upgraded Mac OS to 10.6.8

    1. iTunes won't offer cloud downloads for songs that it "thinks" are in your library, even if it "knows" the files are missing. If you've exhaustively searched for the missing files and there is no prospect of repair by restoring to them to their original locations, or connecting to new ones, then delete that tracks that display both the missing exclamation mark and are of media kind Purchased/Protected AAC audio file. Don't hide from iTunes in the cloud when asked, close iTunes, then reopen. You can download from the cloud links or iTunes Store > Quicklinks > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer > All songs > Download all.
    2. Why? Not sure, perhaps 3rd party tools or accidental key presses combined with previously hidden warning messages when trying to organize the library. There is a hint that using the feature to downsample media as it is synced to a device may also be involved, though I've not replicated it. Whatever the reason a backup would protect your media.
