Photo DVD: Saving images to DVD-ROM not working

When creating a photo slide show In iDVD, there is an option to save the photos to the DVD-ROM portion of the disc so that viewers can download them to their own computer.
After I created a photo slide show in iDVD, it played just fine on both the computer and on a DVD player. But when I have the DVD in my computer's super drive and I try to access any of the photos (jpeg files) that are on the DVD-ROM portion, I get an error message saying they can't be opened.
What am I doing wrong?
I have iLife 09 with iDVD version 7.1.2. My OS is Lion 10.7.2.

> 8mp camera and I have the images saved in TIFF which are 22.9m in size
That makes no sense.
> So resolution is not an issue.
Yes it is.
There are 2 issues here: file format and image size/resolution.
The best format depends upon what the print shop will accept. Often, JPEG is the only option and simply saving at the highest quality will give excellent results. If the option is available from the shop, give them a non-lossy format - TIFF is probably best.
With image size it's all down to pixels and looking at th epixel size of your image is what matters. The "resolution" [PPI value] is simply the ratio of pixels in the image to inches on paper. So long as you PPI is at least 200 and no more than, say, 600, you are OK. Print shops operate in 2 ways:
The expensive ones will take your image and you tell them how big you want to print and they do it.
The cheaper ones require the image be carefully prepared to be the right size - i.e. have the PPI set so that the size in inches is right.
In my experience, the cheaper ones, while requiring more work, often produce the best results.
If you are in the UK, email me [colin_walls AT yahoo DOT com] and I will direct you to an excellent mail-order printer, who is cheap, reliable and produces excellent results. [I have no business connection with them, except that I'm a happy customer.]

    Hi,
Have you made any progress ?
May I ask what application is it that you are running ? You mentioned that it works locally but not when deploying to Azure. Have you checked the connections strings?
If you are still having any difficulty in understanding the code, perhaps you could post it on the below blog.

  • DVDs created in Elements 8 do not work on standalone players

    Hi,
I've been using Elements 7 on Windows 7 before Elements 8 was released.
The source of video is a SD HDD-camcorder and for all the projects I created 4.7 gb dvd-folders, then using a seperate dvd-writing software to burn to discs.
Now since Elements 7 wasn't officially supported I upgraded to Elements 8, but the problem is that the dvds created - although same workflow, do not work on standalone dvd players.
Now, the source is the same, I've tried diffrent dvd-media (dvd+r, dvd-r) and diffrent software for writing dvds, and i've tried four diffrent dvd players and only one player is able to playback the elements 8 dvds.
The dvds are of the type Autoplay-dvd.
I assume given these combinations i've tried - the process of compiling a dvd has changed in Elements 8 as compared to Elements 7 which then outputs less compatible dvd-folders.
Googling around on the term "Opendvd" i found a concept of DVD-V and DVD-R and a knowledge base article on Microsoft hinted that these are diffrent modes of dvd-video or something and I'm wondering if this might be the reason - regardless of it, i've no idea how to fix it so i really need help on solving this issue,
    hope somebody can help.

Okay, I took an even more systematic approach to this problem yesterday,
here's what i did (all burning done in cdburnxp),
    1. using a dvd+rw disc i burned an older dvd-folder which i knew worked - worked fine in player, this was just to confirm that the player could indeed play back dvd+rw/media.
    2. using the same disc i burned a dvd-folder which was created in elements7 - it worked.
    3. using the same disc i encoded a project created in elements 7 loaded in elements 8 - it worked
    4. using the same disc - i tried once again tried to create a new project added one old video file too see if there might be something wrong with the source video.
At this point i also did some research using the Get Media Info option in premiere, and the framerate for the same file was reported as 29,97 and 25 depending on where on the harddrive i tested it - might be because premiere adds some metadata to it.
    5. using the same disc - i reencoded an elements 8 project which didn't work on standalone players, burned the dvd folder - it worked
At this point i was thinking, okay, maybe the Media I did use orignally wasn't compatible, so i gave it another shot in #6 and #7.
    6. Using a dvd-r i burned the image from step #5 -burned at 16x - it worked.
    7. Using a dvd+r I burned the image from step #5 - burned at 16x - it also worked!
Now the confusion is complete for my part - and I can not find any conclusive reason for the misbehaviour orignally reported.
Seems like either Premiere Elements or the media was having a bad hair day when I originally reported this problem.

  • My dvd slot for imac10,1 does not work. It rejects the disc. Problem after reinstall of backup from hdd.

My dvd slot for imac10,1 does not work. I had a new harddrive installed in November and the MacStore installed my backups from an external harddrive. I do not use it other than to upload programs, so I have not tried using it until tax season, but it rejects the disc. The ata file indicates no dvd firmware, but the serial-ata does indicate firmware for a dvdrw. What might I do about this to bring the dvd back, least expensive to most?

Yesterday I started having the same problem. Can read disc (play movies and music) but blank disk are ejected or idvd cannot see the blank disk. I have a almost 12 month old 27" i7 imac.

  • DVD ROM not working on OS X 10.4

Hi guys. I just authored a DVD in DVD SP 4.1 that contains both video and ROM content. The disc works fine in all systems that it has been tested in except for OS X 10.4. I've searched the web and these forums and can not find a similar issue. Is there a compatibility issue between DVD SP 4 and 10.4? I'm working on a G5 Intel Mac running 10.5.6.
Also, the ROM product does work fine when running from the desktop in 10.4.11, just not from the disc. This is why I am assuming it is a disc compatibility issue.
Would an upgrade to 4.1.2 or 4.2 help me out at all?

The ROM folder is present on the disc like it is supposed to be, onlyt when you double click the launcher to start the application, nothing happens. This only happens on OSX 10.4... on all other systems, it tests alright.
And the ROM application works fine when downloaded directly to the desktop on 10.4 so I know the app itself is fine. But if I try to play it from the disc, or if I copy the ROM folder from the disc to the desktop, the application does not work.
So that tells me that 10.4 is not liking the way DVDSP wrote the ROM data on the disc. But this seems to be the only OS that has this problem. I was hoping I could find a solution since the product does actually work on 10.4, just not from the disc.
However, I informed my client what was going on and they had no problems with that OS being left out... they just asked me to update the system requirements to say OSX 10.5 and up. So that helps but I still didn't solve the problem.

  • DVD ROM not working with Windows 8.1...I need the driver please.

My CD/DVD/BluRay Drive is not working since I upgraded my laptop to Windows 8.1.  I really need the driver as soon as possible.  I really need the DVD/CD Drive to work.  I spent so much money getting this laptop to where it needs to be.  I bought new hard drives and everything.  Please tell me that you are going to provide a driver for Windows 8.1.

    Hi @biokimyaci
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see that you are looking for a driver for your CD/DVD or optical drive. There are no specific drivers for the optical drive they are generic Windows drivers that come as part of the operating system. Go to your Device Manager and under DVD/CD-Rom drives right click what you have there and select Uninstall. They restart your computer and Windows will automatically install the driver. What is the product number for your notebook?

  • I recently tried to burn some photos to a disc.  It did not work, but then I ended up with a .fpbf folder on my desktop.  Can't trash it, and when trying to burn again, I get this "... can't be burned because the original items can't be found". Help???

I recently tried to burn some photos on a CD. For some reason, It did not work.  Now I have a .fpbf folder on my desktop. I can't seem to get rid of it.  I tried dragging it to the trash, but then I get a box asking my to type my password it, so Finder can make the changes.  Doing so, does nothing at all.  And when I try to burn another CD from the same .fpbf file, I get a the following message: "There are 35 items that can’t be burned because the original items can’t be found. Skip the items and continue burning?".   When I skip and continue burning, nothing shows up on the CD.  In the meantime, the .fpbf folder is still in my desktop.  I tried changing the aliases on each pic, but it still doesn't work.  Any ideas of how I can remove this folder from my desktop?
    Thank you.

    Beavis2084,
Thank you for your detailed explanation but something is seriously wrong with my computer. Although the method you have described is very similar to the one I tried in step 2 from my second post, I have since "done things" which may have complicated matters—or suggests that my computer has a more serious problem.
    Here's what I did:
1). Installed Onyx and discovered that I had a .plist file (com.apple.iphotomosaic.plist) that was causing a Syntax error: "Conversion of data failed. The file is not UTF-8, or in the encoding specified in XML header, if XML." After doing some research online, I was given the understanding that downloading the iLife update 9.0.3 (I installed the more recent version, 9.0.4) would solve this problem because it would also fix some system issues. So, I downloaded it...and when it didn't solve the problem, I decided to just deleted that .plist file.
2). I read your knew post and decided to follow your directions, even though I realized they were basically the same steps I followed in the 2nd method I mentioned earlier. I say "basically" because, for some reason, after inserting a blank disc, my computer does not open the disc in the Finder. Instead, it places the blank disc's image on the Desktop, even though the Finder's Preferences and the System's Preferences are set to have it open in the Finder—nothing should be on my Desktop! (Note: When transferring the items (all folders) I want to burn to the blank disc, I did not use the Option-Click-Drag method as before, I used the Click-Drag method, which created the curved arrow in the lower left corner of each item.)
Now, for the result of "method 2," the method we basically have in common, the computer goes through the burn stage but, in the verify stage, tells me that it is unable to verify the disk, suggests that my DVD may be unreliable and that I should try another disc, and then tells me about some "fork" (?) error (-43).
I don't know what to do anymore...

  • K8T Neo FIS2R AMIBOOT.ROM not working

    Hi
Had a game crash on my system, and froze everything, so had to restart manualy - now I get the error BIOS is not installed..
I have downloaded a copy of the bios (not latest) and changed the relevant ROM file to AMIBOOT.ROM and copied to a freshly formated floppy.
I inserted the disk, held down CTRL and HOME and started the computer...
After a while of running through the messages of BIOS not installed and no SATA installed (which is correct), the floppy drive light comes on, and then after a while (afet I have released the CTRL and HOME keys) I get a message saying "Remove disks or other media, Press any key to restart" then nothing, if I press any key - it says the same thing untill I remove the floppy... and then it restarts again.
I have tried to restart using the floppy and the CTRL and HOME keys about 20 times so far - always the same result - I have even tried diferent versions of the BIOS.
    Any ideas?
I only have one stick of RAM (256Kb - 333) and two IDE HD's
    Many thanks in advance
    GreenBoy

    Hans
My Set up is as follows (from the top of my head as I am doing this form work)
    K8T Neo FIS2R.
    AMD 3300 745pin chip set.
1 stick of 512Mb ram (non branded - baught from Watford Electronics)
    2 x 200Gb Maxtor HD's
    1 40GB Seagate HD
    1 DVD RW
    Power 500W
Dont know what else you need...
Anyway - last night I reset the CMOS in the way you described.
Still cant find the VIA settings in the Advanced Chipset or elsewhare - but I will. urned of SATA in Intergrated Peripherals...
Anyway - what then happens, is it says it cannot boot.
I tried using a Win98 SE boot disk - and all the  drivers were listed as not possible to load  or something...
Any way - deciding I did not have anotehr boot disk to hand - tried Symantec Ghost - still same result.
Finaly I tried WinXP Pro, and found that this installed all the bootup files no problem at all - what was then found was that my C: partition was missing - yup boot sector had completely disapeared.
Anyway knowing that I have recent full backups og my primary drives using Ghost, I took the plunge, created a partition in the unalocated space, reformated the drive, and reinstalled WinXP... all seems ok for now... except the message regarding no BIOS - but from what you say as soon as I fing the switch I will loose that again.
The strange thing is I never used to get this message before, and do not remember setting anything up for SATA - couldnt afford the disks at the time....
Thanks for the help Hans, you have been more than gwenerouse with your time  , but can you please give me some more information? (Im a bit of a Nooby at playing with BIOS etc as they scare the crap out of me! )
    1) Why is the detail of my system so important? I have made no Hardware changes for approx 6 months and everything was fine untill the game crashed, so therefore, dont see why this should affect things.
    2) Why did the flashing of the BIOS not work? I was following the instructions carefully - but nothing.. therefore in my Nooby mind this means there is something else wrong, stopping the flashing from working.
    Again - many thanks

  • Boot from disk repair on networked computer because cd rom not working

Hello, please help me! I have an eMac which works fine except I cannot boot from the cd rom. It reads cds fine for information and also dvds but for some reason the burner is also not working. I need to defragment my hard drive but cannot because it's not allowing me to boot from the nortons cd. It starts out promisingly with the big gray apple but then after 5 minutes shows me a big gray fuzzy box and I ebd up shutting down.
I'd like to know if I can boot from my other computer, an iMac (older model, system 9.2), but not only that, if I can boot from the disk doctor cd loaded in my iMac. Is this possible? My iMac has disk doctor installed but it isn't meant for OS X, so I want to boot from the disk doctor cd that I will insert in there.
One more thing...I need to re-do all my networking because I have forgotten the passwords (and didn't use keychain - I know, my bad). can someone please tell me how I can cancel all my previous info and restart the process as though it were all new? Do i have to call my IP and get passwords from them etc.
I would appreciate any help. this is my first time here, please don't let me down guys! thanks.

Is your hard drive really 20 GB? I thought the standard eMac hard rives started at 40 GB. In any case, 6 GB free space should be plenty for normal use. Photoshop, of course, is kind of extra-ordinary in that it needs more scratch files than most any other program short of DVD editing. A key question would be how much RAM in in your eMac. The 128 MB or 256 MB that shipped with baseline eMacs is really minimal for doing anything more than basic text editing; 512 MB or more is better. For Photoshop, you could max out at 1 GB RAM. With a tight budget, RAM would be the first thing I'd suggest adding; worry about adding an extral Firewire hard drive later. You can check RAM specs and prices at Crucial and you'll find RAM installation instructions at eMac - Do-It-Yourself. At a minimum, close all other programs when doing anyting in Photoshop.
If you partially ran Disk Doctor Kervorkian, then at a minimum I'd suggest starting from your OS X Install disk and running Repair Disk from the Installer menu, as desribed in Using Disk Utility and fsck. You'd be more certain of undoing whatever damage Norton has done by using DiskWarrior, but using the OS X Install disc's Repair Disk is free and will at least indicate if there are any directory problems.
Parameter RAM (PRAM) holds computer settings and resetting PRAM can help if the contents of PRAM become corrupted. Refer to Mac OS X: What's stored in PRAM? for more info. NVRAM can be thought of as a superset of PRAM. In any case, I doubt that affects your CD burner.
You should definitely run the cron maintenance scripts; if you've never allowed the scripts to run overnight or run them manually, that should speed up your Mac significantly (forcing the maintenance tasks was finally built into 10.4.2 and later). You can download the appropriate version of the freeware OnyX and use that to run the maintenance tasks once a week or so. You can also use the Terminal program; see How to Force Background Maintenance. OnyX will also let you clear logs and caches, though, which can further help. I'd suggest running only one task in OnyX at a time (resist the urge to load up everything in it's Pilot menu), and restart afterwards.
If you've ever run any installer that asked for an administrativ epassword and haven't already done so, run Disk Utility> Repair Permissions also (Ony X or similar tools such as MacJanitor, YASU, Cocktail, et al. can do this as well).

  • Background image stretch in html not working if 'never remember history' is choosen

I have a problem that did not exist in previous mozilla versions. I found the problem after installing the most recent version and after setting firefox to "never remember history"
The problem is related to the CSS code for stretching a background image to fit the screen. The background image does stretch if "never remember history" is NOT set. Only part of the image is displayed and the rest of the background is black. I first noticed it with my website www.missionbayhighalumni.com and later found that the same problem also occurred with this website:
    http://www.htmlite.com/faq022.php or http://www.htmlite.com/faqEX004b.html
I created several test cases with very simple code, all had the problem. The background image stretch code tests all work for other browsers and even firefox if "never remember history" is not selected. It also appears to be intermittent.

Looks fine to me and all containers have a height:100%, so that is also correct
You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.
You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
