Photo Editing problems!!
I have an iPod touch (4th generation) IOS 5, just recently i was trying to edit a photo and whenever i click edit, theres a big flash, a loading sign (like when your iPod is dying) and then my iPod turns off. I dont know whats going on!!
What are yu trying to edit? Some users have reported that editing screen shots does not work and is a bug.
Yu can try the standard fixes:
- Reset. Nothing is lost.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

I have a sudden export to plug-in problem as well as a Photo-Edit-in-Photoshop Error
I just changed Macs and migrated all of my old data to the new iMac (running OS X 10.9.2). Applications and files. I keep all my photo files on external Iomega drives, however. I plugged those back in and Lightroom 5.2 recognizes them. I can work with them, edit, etc within Lightroom. No problems.
But I can't seem to export them to some of the plug-ins now or Photo-Edit in-Photoshop. For example, I tried to export out via (File-Plug-in Extras-Perfect Effects 8) and get this message: "AgNegative:renderToFile: <AgErrorID>dng_error_write_file</AgErrorID>"
Another example: Trying to edit the photo via (Photo-Edit in-Adobe Photoshop Elements) gives me this message: "Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file at /Volumes/Photos-Videos /Pictures/2000/2000 Dean Scan 6.jpeg for editing. It will not be opened."
I've tried exporting Raw and jpgs and tiffs and get the same errors. It will, oddly enough, allow me to export to Photomatix Pro.
Any ideas? I'm stumped.
Thanks!That would be great as tested further with a few files as not only have external drive backup I also use Backblaze remote service and just requested a few test files to be returned for uploading, which both worked fine.
It's seems to be the hard drive it's not recognising PS and LR CC

Problem with "Full Photo Edit"
When moving from Organizer in Elements 10 to Full Photo Edit, I receive a "Runtime message error." How do I solve this in order to use this Edit program?

Just for the record, IT people here were eventually able to have RH8 full-text search feature working on my laptop by:
1/ Installing an XP virtual machine from scratch, and then installing RH8 on it (we created a small project and generated the webhelp output, just to make sure the search feature did work in that environment).
2/ Using a software virtualization application to capture that RH8 install and deploy it on my laptop.
The problem is not solved, because we still don't know what caused it (conflicting DLLs?), but it looks like we have a workaround - although certainly not a quick and easy one ;-) -
Has anybody had a problem with the mouse cursor lagging when navigating the drop down menus? this only started happening after a re-install. it only occurs in Photoshop elements 13 in the photo editing section,and no other application. My mouse drivers are up to date.Any help or advice would be most welcome.

Photo editing software problem
I have a Cannon Pixma pro 9000 Mark ll printer. I have several photo editing programs. The only one that will let me make a print the "exact size", in other words, not 8x10 or 5x7, etc., is Photoshop Elements ll. Even the software that came with my printer will not let me print anything other than a standard size print. I really can't use Photoshop Elements ll because it apparently is not compatible with Cannon, the colors turn out wrong. Can anyone tell me the name of an editing program that will let me print one photo in the center of the page in an odd size and work with the Cannon printer? Cost must be in same range as Elements. Thanks.
Hopefully others can help sort it out. I don't use Canon printers so I have no idea just how to set one up to print using specific instructions. As for Elements I don't use it either but any Adobe program I do use has a check box that must be checked when saving a file (Save AS) and the check box is for saving as an ICC sRGB etc file. One thing that my printing process asks when selecting the different settings I'll use is whether I want Photoshop to manage the printer & I say NO because I want to use the printer to to manage the colors. Just go through the whole process one step at a time in your normal way but read each menu that comes up as you proceed through the steps
All of this assumes that you haven't set your camera to shoot in the Adobe RGB color space. If you have the file numbers will begin with the Underscore such as _MG. You do not want to set it up that way.

What is the best way to use a SSD for Photoshop/photo editing?
Computer hardware newbie here: I do a significant amount of photo editing work and for a very long time I've experienced Photoshop, Bridge and Photomatix crashing constantly (usually due to insufficient RAM) or just generally taking forever (Bridge took forever to load the thumbnail/preview extractions in a folder full of images, Photoshop took forever to save images and Photomatix took ages to load/merge a set of bracketed photos). As a professional photographer, constantly running into that sort of thing is quite aggravating, so to hopefully avoid ever having to deal with that again I invested in a new custom built computer. It's Windows 7 Professional 64 bit with 32GB of RAM and a 240GB SSD; I'm using the 240GB SSD as my boot drive/OS, all of my programs are installed there, and the page file. My photos and data are stored on several HDDs. I have yet to install any of my photo editing software (Photoshop CS6 Extended, Lightroom, Photomatix etc) to the new computer yet since I'd like some advice first.
My basic question is this: what is the best way to take advantage of the SSD (and the computer in general) when it comes to my photo editing software?
Specifically...
1. If I have a folder of photos I'm working on, should I move it to the SSD and then work on them from there in order to take advantage of the speed of the SSD? Would this make any difference in terms of speed if the photos are located on the SSD vs. an internal/external HDD?
2. Most of what I've read online seems to recommend two separate SSDs, one for installing/booting the apps and one for cache/scratch. Does it matter if I use my 240GB SSD for both?
3. This is a fairly new computer and the SSD is already almost half full (102GB used, 120GB free) *WITHOUT* any of my photo editing software installed yet. I'm concerned about how fast that remaining 120 GB may fill up. As it fills up will I lose the speed advantage of the SSD vs. a regular HDD?
4. Sort of similar to #3, but should I bother moving any of my other non-photo editing programs/caches off of the SSD to a HDD and would there be any major difference in the speed/lifespan of the SSD if I did so? It's mostly Firefox and Chrome and their caches that I'm concerned may be a problem if they remain on the SSD.
Thanks for any help!If you have an SSD you can run the cache and programs on the same drive. However, many recommend a scratch disk size of 100-200 gigs so that will not work here unless you opt for a larger SSD. Otherwise an internal spinner is recommended that does not contain the program files, or idealy any other files that may want to get acessed at same time (only one read/write head per drive).
With 32 gig of RAM you may not need the constant use of the scratch drive unless working on large images with lots of layers. So see no advantage to moving folder to SSD for temp work environment.
From what I read the new crop of SSD do not have the wear problems of the older versions. -

THE SETUP
I have LR 3.3 and PS CS 4 Version 11.0.2 on a Mac running OS X.6.7.
My "About Lightroom" screen reports the presence of Camera Raw 6.3.
In my LR preferences under "External Editing" tab, I have the option to "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS4" as PSD / sRGB / 16 bit / rez 300. There is no "Additional External Editor" present.
I have installed in Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS4/File Formats the Camera Raw Plug-in version 5.7. When I choose Photoshop>About Plugin>Camera Raw I see that CR version 5.7.0.213 is present.
THE PROBLEM
When I select photo(s) [CR2 file(s)] in LR3 and choose Photo>Edit in> none of the external edit-in-Photoshop options work. First, I get a message saying "This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 6.3 for full compatibility."
I resent this suggestion, since that version of Camera Raw only works with CS5.
When I click "Open Anyway," PS opens and loads, but that's it. None of the images from LR appear.
I get the same (non)-results with all of the options (edit in CS4, HDR, panorama, smart object, etc.) under "Photo>Edit In." Photoshop launches, but no image appears.
The only way I can get a photo to open in PS from within LR is to choose Photo>Edit in>Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS4, and then when the warning dialog comes up about the Camera Raw plug-in version, click "Render in Lightroom." When I do that, LR renders the image and it opens in CS4. But that doesn't help me do what I really want to do, which is to select bracketed exposures in LR, merge them to HDR in CS4, and save them back to LR.
I have searched for help on this and come up dry. I did find this http://www.lightroomforums.net/showthread.php?9974-Open-as-layers-in-Photoshop-command-not -working, but I reinstalled the CR 5.7 plug-in as described and saw no change.

You will have to bite the bullet and upgrade to CS5 if you dont want to "Render in LR".
I've worked for quite a while with LR 3 and CS3 and experienced similar problems - the only way out is that you select "Render in LR".
It's not such a big deal. When you select "Render in LR", Lr creates the psd that then opens in CS4.
With CS5 it works this way: The RAW file opens in CS5 but when you save in CS5 a psd is generated.

Photo edit in no size choices?
I see in LR2 we have:

and several useful choices,
"open as layers in PS" for one.
But is there a way to determine the picture size
prior to this activity, because right now,

mac osx.4.11Thinking about it some more, the reason things are not resized on your way into Photoshop when you use Edit In is that Lightroom is merely telling Photoshop the develop settings and the file location, and Photoshop is opening the files using Adobe Camera RAW.
ACR, itself, has a size option at the bottom that gives you the ability to resize the output from half-size to double-size, and perhaps LR should let you specify that, at least in the Preferences area for Edit in Photoshop, that lets you specify the color-space and bit-depth. Perhaps Adobe decided that half-size or double-size aren't enough of a difference to bother with it.
Using Photoshop for panoramas you'd want the maximum resolution available for accuracy in matching things and warping things. Using it for HDR you also want the full-size image for matching up before doing the merge.
You don't say what you are using Layers for. If you are opening dozens of images for a timelapse animation on a computer without enough horsepower or memory, then trying to do if fullsize can be a problem, but in the general case, resizing is near the end of the processing steps, just before output sharpening, and so generally Edit In Photoshop would not benefit from resizing on the way in.
You can open images into Photoshop from the Export menu where you can resize them as small as you want. They just won't end up as Layers like you can with Edit In. -

How do I make iOS 5 photo edits permanent?
In iOS5 on the iPhone 4 when I edit my photos (crop, adjust color, etc) with the built-in photo editing tools, the photos look fine on the iphone, but when I upload them to my PC, they are not edited... they are the original uncropped, unmodified photo.
Is there a way to permanently save the cropped photo?

Daveyou're lucky your iOS5 upgrade added photo editing. did you do anything special? i have no photo editing functions on my iphone 4 after moving to iOS5. one of the main things I'd like and it didn't happen. Add the myriad problems which make my iphone4 pretty much a piece of **** now and I'd very much like to UNDO iOS5... but just wondering if you had to customize or do anything special to enable photoediting?

Why do my photos edited in Photoshop cause iPhoto to quit?
I've been using iPhoto for years and in the last few days I can no longer edit or open certain pictures within iPhoto. Everytime I click on photos that have been edited in Photoshop Elements 3, the iPhoto application simply quits. Other photos that have NOT been touched by PE3 open okay. The same happens when I try to view a photo (edited in PE3) full size in the main gallery section (i.e. not in the edit mode). I've edited THOUSANDS of photos in Photoshop Elements 3 and never had this problem until now. It suddenly started about five days ago. I've deleted by iPhoto plist and even reinstalled iPhoto 6.0.4. But nothing seems to work.
I've noticed when exporting photos that the orginal is the same size as state in hte info section of iPhoto - but the one edited in PE3 is much larger (someties twice the size). Is that the added information? Is iPhoto keeping two copies of each picture - the original and the modified version?
Could it be that my Library size is now too large? 16,000 photos and a total library size of 46.7 GB?
I use a Nikon D2x so even the jpegs I shoot are fairly large. I've ordered Aperture 1.5 - will that solve the problem? Or will the same thing happen? My computer by the way is a Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8 (one fo the first) with 4.5 GB of RAM.

Aperture 2 quitting when doing photo edits
I am using Aperture 2 on my Late 2009 27" iMac. OS X 10.9.5 Maverick.
The application quits unexpectedly when making photo edits. (most noticeable if cropping the image). This problem seems to have only recently manifested. I hadn't been doing much editing until today with the new OS.
Is there a compatibility issue with Aperture 2 and Maverick 10.9.5?.
I'm at a loss as my Aperture library is big and I don't know how to move it to a new computer or newer version of Aperture easily.
Is it time to buy a new iMac / Photo edit software?

JSBoth your Aperture version and iPhoto version are perfect for working with MacOS X 10.6.8, but nor for your current system. iPhoto 8.1.2 is also incompatible with Mavericks. You should be using iPhoto 9.5.1 for best performance. with iPhoto 8.1.2 you'll have similar problems.
Could I migrate all my Aperture library to iPhoto easily? It seems that iPhoto has slowed down a lot since I upgraded operating systems from snow leopard to Maverick, thus why I'm hesitant to use iPhoto for editing. I am using an old version of iPhoto however. (09 8.1.2)
Aperture and iPhoto are now compatible and can open each others libraries,but not the older versions you are using. To be able to use both iPhoto and Aperture on the same library you would need to use at least Aperture 3.3 and Photo 3.3., see: Aperture 3.3: Using a unified photo library with iPhoto and Aperture
For best performance upgrade to Aperture 3.5.1, if you want to continue a professional application, to CaptureOne, or Lightroom. Upgrading to aperture 3 would be the most seamless transit. If you want to migrate to a simpler application upgrade your iPhoto to 9.5.1, but you would have export your originals and edited versions separately from Aperture. Upgrading to Aperture 3 would save the lossless workflow. -
IPhoto Troubleshoot - Lost File Upon Photo Edit

I'm having trouble in iPhoto.
Each time I finish editing an image and return to the album or event screen, then click on the photo again, the area that should show the image goes black. When I right click on "Show File" the file is shown with a missing thumbnail and the size is zero bytes. So, it looks like iPhoto loses track of the file contents somewhere during the photo editing or saving process.
iPhoto works normally in all other ways. I have the '09 version (8.1.2). I've though about dropping the 15 bucks to get the new version but the reviews said that it has a reputation for being buggy.
I'm running this on a 2010 MacBook Pro 13" on OSX Lion 10.7.2.
Anyone have any ideas, thoughts, or advice? Thanks in advance!

It almost seems as though the edit is 'too much' for the processor to handle. The strange part is that this problem is very inconsistent- sometimes the photo will edit and save flawlessly. Other times, iPhoto will attempt to save the edit and fail. You can see the attempt through pixelated and stretched versions of the photo for a brief moment before the image goes blank.

Dear All,
I just want to burn all my photo edited in Aperture into a disc DVD. I choose iDVD but it seems it can't achieve what i basic need.
Since I have around 200pics photo and i try to separate it into several slideshow folder created in iDVD. However the problem is when I play and finish the first slideshow folder, it can't auto switch to next folder but turn back to the root menu. Is there any way I can fix the problem since it must for sure to create any inconvenience to my friends with click the remote button and select it one by one.
Thanks for your great helpI like to make DVDs of my best photos every year. Here are my experiences.
1. Last year I ended up creating the slideshow in iDVD ('06), saving it as a disc image and burning it from Utilities. The visual quality was good - better than with any other method I tried including using iMovie HD - but there were drawbacks. Only one transition was allowed throughout and every transition and every slide had to be on screen for the same length of time (I chose 2 seconds and 5 seconds respectively). Creating a sound track with multiple pieces of music and sound effects to go with it was a painstaking process.
2. After that project was finished I upgraded to Leopard X and iLife '09 and started another project in iMovie. I ran into problems creating a clear, crisp DVD. I experimented with different methods of sharing - iTunes, iDVD, Media Browser, export using Quick Time, and export movie. The first four did not produce good results: either the product itself had images that were blurry with jagged edges, or the blurry, jagged edges appeared when I dragged the icon into the background of the theme window in iDVD. Only 'export movie' gave acceptable results: excellent visual images when played using Quick Time Player, or dragged into iDVD and then burned to a disc.
3. Last week I upgraded to Snow Leopard - version 10.6.1 and that upgrade has turned out to be a mistake as far as this slideshow/movie project is concerned. Shortly after the upgrade I added a few more photos to my iMovie project and shared using 'Export Movie' as usual. Disaster! Colours will not hold through certain transitions and effects like Ken Burns and picture in picture. Reds turn to blue before and after some transitions and 'flashes' of colour appear on images to which I applied the Ken Burns effect. Last night I was on the phone for 1 3/4 hours with an Apple tech support person. She had me try everything - creating a new user, trashing and reinstalling iLife '09 iMovie, trashing plists and caches. Nothing fixed the problem. Finally she gave up and said that she would do more research on her own. If she doesn't find a solution she will refer the problem to Apple engineers. She will get back to me.
Note: Sharing through iDVD - letting iDVD render the movie and create a new project on its own produced excellent visual results. The blurred, jagged images occurred when I 'burned' it using 'save as disc image'.
At the moment I am stymied. If anyone has a fix for me, please help.
