Photo files disapearing from hard Drive while using Lighroom not relink issue, any ideas?

I've been using Lightroom and while using it files have been disappearing, I understand how to relink the files, it's not that.
The file folders are showing up but the files are missing. Not all files are affected. They haven't been in my trash.
Seagate have sent me a 'What a shame, it's not our fault email' Won't be buying any more of their products. They say it's a lightroom / Mac OS problem.
Does anyone know how I can retreive these missing files? If they've had the same problem? Thank you.

Restore from your backup copies
Download and install an "undelete utility" (there are free ones available) and see if it can recover the files

Is there a way through aperture to move all of my referenced photos onto a new hard drive while maintaining the current file structure and still keep them as referenced files.

I just want to migrate all of my work (all photos are referenced) from one drive to another and have my aperture library start working off of my new larger hard drive.

Depending on how your folder hierarchy is organized you might be able to do this with file->relocate masters and one of the options of folder organization that is provided but... if you have complicated hierarchy that Aperture will not reproduce then you can just copy all the entire folder hierarchy to the new drive using finder and then use file->locate masters to reconnect them to Aperture like this...

It's actually a bit easier if the old folder hierarchy/drive is disconnected when you do this for a few reasons.

I downloaded Lion in October and it would not install because it said "the disk Mcintosh Hard drive is damaged and cannot be repaired" Any ideas?

I downloaded Lion from the APP store onto my imac (running Snow Leopard v. 10.6.8, 3.06 Ghz Intel Core i3, 4GB Memory with over 200GB of storage space, which I also Time machine back up to an external hard drive. I also run Office for the Mac 2008, ilife 08 and iworks 09) it downloaded but then wouldn't install as it said the hard drive was damaged and not able to be repaired.
I then called apple support who advised me to run disk repair/verification of disk, and no faults were found.
We also looked at the partition disk which apparently there was 2.
Finally we started in safe mode with the original disk (DVD) of Tiger (I couldn't find the original DVD that came with the imac which I bought in Nov 2010 - although I have now found this!) in the DVD driver and the whole hard drive crashed and was unresponsive.
So, I had to take it to apple store, wipe my HD. I then re-installed Lion and all my data from my external HD and tried again, and the whole thing happended again.
So I took it back to apple who re-installed Snow Leopard which I am now running with no problem at all.
I still wish to use Lion mainly because I also use Mobile me and so want to be able to sync my iphone and ipad to my imac beyond June 2012!!
Any suggestions about what this could be or how to avoid another 2 trips into Apple Store!

I'll guess that you're upgrading from Snow Leopard? You should be able to start using your original install dvd by inserting the disc and restarting while holding the C key. Run Disk Utility from your install disc and try to repair the drive. Then try the upgrade again.

DELETING FILES PERMAMNENTLY FROM HARD DRIVE AND PASSWORD PROTECTING

#1) Please check your caps lock key which seems to be on and many perceive as shouting your questions.
#2) Use secure empty trash when you want secure deleting.
#3) There isn't a folder password feature. There's a utility which will let you hide folders with a password, but that is easily circumvented. Then there's making password protected, encrypted image files. The second is very secure but it isn't a folder, it appears as a new volume on your desktop.

Importing photos into iPhoto from Hard Drive

Mike just downloaded our back up onto our newish Mac after our Macbook bravely went to it's grave in coffee. I'm now trying to import about 100 - 200G of photos into iPhoto from my hard drive. I really do not want to spend the whole time selecting and dragging these pictures. All that I read so far says that is the only way to get them off your hard drive. Some one please rescue me and tell me there is another way! Unfortunately I have already started a new photo album with pictures from my iPhone, so I can't just start a new album with these pics. first off do not import an old library into iPhoto - it does not work
If you have an old library you simply drag it to the new computer and launch iPhoto while depressing the option key to get the select library window and then select it - repeat to select a different library
If you have just the photos (not =an iPhoto library) then simply drag the folder of photos to iPhoto

My keynote presentation file disappeared from hard drive ?

Something very mysterious happened to me yesterday.
I've been working on a keynote presentation for a week.
I precise that it was my first professional work on my brand new
I7 Imac on Maverick, I am used to Snow leopard on a MacBook Pro
I've been working on for 7 years. I'm very new to Keynote (it's the 6.1 version)
and Maverick, but very familiar with OSX.
Yesterday, I imported many different files to my presentation by mistake,
it crashed keynote. Then, I cleaned up the folder containing all those
imported files, deleting some of them. I restarted Keynote, and there was nothing
in the "open recent" menu.
Impossible to find my .key file anywhere on the hard drive !!
Thinking that I maybe trashed it and emptied trash, I used many
data recovery softwares, in vain. My file has just disapeared, I can't believe
it ! The file is still in my "recent items" of Apple menu but impossible to locate
it with "open finder location" option.
In 30 years of using computers, It's my first mystical experience...
Anyone, found a way to recover the mysteriously vanished .key files ?

Just make sure it didn't end up in the cloud. If you open keynote, you get a choice.

Music files deleted from hard drive and iTunes library

Often, after iTunes software updates, I find that some of my music files that have been uploaded from cds are completely erased from my music library and from my external hard drive, where I keep all my music. I always make sure I turn on the external drive before opening iTunes, and I quit iTunes before turning off the external drive.
So why is my music disappearing?! Where does it go? This has been a problem for a long time and I can't find any solutions online. Please help! Thank you!

When you have the unit in the dock, anytime you sync, you have to make sure that it will sync again to the folder. If it isn't set to sync the same folder where you had the music sync before, it'll delete the file.
That's just the way it's set up. So you have be conscious of it.

How do i deny access to an External Hard Drive while using user switching

I have a QuickSilver running Tiger (Leopard upgrade coming when RAM arrives) and have 4 users ( fast user switching enabled). I would like to deny all access to the external hard drives except for the my account on the box.
I have already have gone into the info Sharing & Permissions and only allowed myself to have access, others have "no access" however when I switch user (using fast user switching) they assume ownership of the drives and have access.
Just so you understand the overall direction I would like to go. I'm a photographer and my images are loaded on various external hard drives which is plugged in to the desktop. Family uses the desktop and do not want them to access my work on the external hard drive, however I do need to connect via my laptop to edit images via ethernet which I would obviously enter the admin username and password for the desktop when challenged.
Any ideas???

P.S. I also changed the permissions via unix to 700 but guess what it doesn't matter! It still assumed the other users ownership upon switch. Does anyone have a proven solution?

Copied Files to External Hard drive and they are not available now.. where

I have a G4 that had an original 20GB Hard drive. I installed a 60GB Hard drive. I was running OS 9 on the 20GB drive and OS X on the 60GB. I was working with a lot of video and pics and filled the 60GB drive, so I added an external 250GB drive.
Recently, I received messages that my start up disk was almost full (60GB), so I moved my users file from the 60GB drive to the 250GB. The file size was 47ish GB and so I thought I would create some room. The move took approx. 40 mins as I copied the folder over to the 250GB drive. Once it was there I verified it only by it's size and once I saw that it existed on the 250, I trashed the users file from the 60GB drive and then emptied trash.
I lost the icons and items on my desktop, however, desktop background remained the same. I cannot access anything that I opriginally had. The users file still has the same folders that it did, but they are now relatively empty. Each folder is approx. 50 kB in size but the users folder still exists as 47GB.
If what I have explained makes sense, can someone help me to either copy back my users folder (I tried that, but the 60GB drive still says it is full) or suggest something else (And not that I am a fool, as I figured that one out already!)
I ran Diskwarrior last night to verify the pathways etc. and everything is in order... I am lost... Please help if you can!

Did you move the entire "yourhomedirectory" name over to the 250 gig HD and then did you delete the entire "yourhomedirectory" file?
From what I have read, OS X will always be looking for Desktop, Documents, Library, Movies, Music, etc under "yourhomedirectory". There is some way to tell the system that they are located somewhere else but it is kind of hard.
When you mount the 250 gig drive do you see any of the files that you you moved over?
What do you see when you log into the OS X volume. Are there any files for you to see.
Not really sure what you did but let's see if we can get you fixed.

My TC was working good until I unplugged it,and when I tried to plug it in again there was no light at all but I can still hear and feel that it does have power,I did do soft and hard reset but it's not working?any ideas?!

Unfortunately, you are likely describing an internal power supply issue on the TC.
The power supply has enough power to start up the hard drive.....that is the sound that you hear....but it is having problems starting up the router portion of the TC.
Try powering off the Time Capsule for 30 minutes or so, then try the start up again.
If you have the same issue, unfortunately the TC will likely need to be replaced since Apple does not offer repairs on Time Capsules.
If the TC is in warranty, take it to an Apple Store to let them have a look or contact Apple Support directly....Contact Apple for support and service
If the TC is out of warranty, but you have AppleCare in effect on one of your Macs, the TC might be covered as well. The rules are complex, so discuss with Apple.
If you can locate the model number on the bottom of the TC......starts with an "A" followed by four numbers......we may be able to provide a bit more info.

I've transferred my old number by PAT code to my new iphone and most of the time it works fine however there are problems when replying to tests and using Facetime when the original sim muber is displayed. My frined can text me on my correct number but if I reply she receives it from the different number. Also when using Facetime the number displayed is the one the came with the iphone. Anyone know what to do to get the number id correct?

Deleting photo file from hard drive

I would like to be able to delete items (photos) from both the iPhoto library and my hard drive, but I don't seem to be able to. After I delete items from the iPhoto library, the files are still on the hard drive... (I did empty the trash and I did delete the items from the Library folder)
Note: I just started using iPhoto. I already had a large (?) (9000+ items) library of photos that I keep on an external firewire hard drive. I did not use the "Copy files to iPhoto Library folder when adding to library" function, because a) I didn't want to wait for the system to copy all 9000 images, b) my internal hard drive isn't really big enough to store all these images and c) I'd like to keep using other software (Photoshop, stich software, etc.) to view, open and edit my images.
I like using iPhoto, it seems faster than what I've been using and I like the clean interface, but if I can't use iPhoto to both view and delete images it might not be the software I'm looking for...
My apologies if this question has been answered prior - I just searched and couldn't find an answer.

No, I think you'll need to do it one at a time.

No, you won't be able to set up more than one app at a time. The obvious one being to set up Photoshop. What I would do is export the pics for stitching and then import the resulting image as a new image - but that's just me.
Saving an additional file is as simple either duplicating in iPhoto or using Save As in Photoshop and the importing the new file.
You can download with Image Capture (in your Applications folder) and rename files with a batch renamer such as File List. iPhoto has no facility to rename files except on export as filenames are quite irrelevant within iPhoto. You can, of course, apply titles in iPhoto.
As you say, perhaps the app is not for you - it's not right for everybody in every situation.

ok - since you'll be sharing it with a PC - connect it to your windows pc - then format from there - instead of NTFS format - choose exFAT.
