Photo Firewire support?

Ok, i just got a firewire cable for my iPod photo. Ive connected it and it charges, and the computer recognizes it, but it still downloads REALLY slow, like the same as usb 1. I dont have USB 2.0, so I am forced to use firewire, and i had to buy the new cable. Is there a reason why its going so slow? Also, it wont let me update the software cause im using the firewire. Is there anyway to get around this instead of buying a usb 2.0 card? Thanks.

hi Craig!

hmmm. is that an Apple-approved firewire card that you're using for that connection? cheaper firewire cards and onboard Firewire typically uses the VIA chipset that doesn't work well with ipods.

  • How do I get firewire support under XP running on OSX 10.8.2?

I have an old Nikon film scanner that is bundled with Nikon scanning software that requires Windows XP.  The film scanner has only a firewire cable.  My iMac is running OSX 10.8.2.  I installed Oracle's (free) VirtualBox and was able to get XP running on my mac.  However, I soon discovered that VirtualBox has no firewire support.  That sent me searching for other methods of running XP under OSX.  I thought Apple's Parallels 8 software would do the trick but I don't believe it supports firewire either.
Can anyone give me an idea of what software would allow me to run XP with firewire support under OSX 10.8.2?
Another question:  Do those firewire-to-USB adapter plugs work and are they safe to use?
For those who have familiarity with film scanners, VueScan is not a desirable option for me because it does not fully support Digital Ice, while Nikon's software does.
    Thanks..

OS X Lion: Use another Mac as a display
It also works with Mountain Lion.

  • Firewire support

i find it very hard to believe that ipods no longer support firewire connections. i called them and asked why this is and they gave me some bull s*&t answer. they said that usb is more popular than fire wire. when i said that is a load of bull since all macs since about 2000 come with 2 fire wire ports and the new dells come with it she didnt know what to say and just said they arent as popular.
any one know why they are doing this? is there any way to use a fire wire cable with the new 60 gig?

I don't speak for Apple but IMO, this was primarily due to the so many PCs not having a Firewire connection.
Does your iMac not have a USB 2.0?
I and many others agree about the loss of Firewire support but the following was copied from another thread here on this subject.
    480Mb copied from iPod:
    USB 1.1 - 11 min 15 seconds (G4/1GHz)
    USB 2.0 - 2 min 44 seconds (G5, 2.0 dual)
(for comparison, the same folder copied in 2 min 18 seconds via FW from my 3g iPod)
In this experiment, USB 2.0 was only 26 seconds slower than Firewire to transfer 480 MB so the transfer rate using USB 2.0 is not extremely slower than using Firewire.
I don't believe there is a way to use a Firewire cable to transfer data with a new iPod.

  • "firewire support" and "firewire enabler"

Anyone know where I can download the latest versions of extensions "firewire support" and "firewire enabler" for OS9.2.2? (G4).  Thanks.

If the PRAM battery in your G4 is the original battery and has never been replaced, these batteries only last 5-6 years, max.
Also, the PRAM battery can go bad quickly if the your G4 has not been plugged into power and has been off of direct electrical power for a week or more.
This is because the PRAM battery stays charged up with a trickle charge inside a Mac when in is still plugged into a power main. Even if the Mac is shut off, but still plugged into power.
When an older PowerMac has not been plugged into power, there is no trickle charging of the PRAM battery and this battery can permanently lose its power in a short period of time as it is the only power that is keeping the actual current Parameter RAM active until the battery exhausts itself.
A low or dead PRAM battery can cause all sorts of operational weird issues with a Mac.
An inexpensive source of this PRAM battery can be found online here.

  • Does Photo Booth support mirroring via VGA to iPad 2 or iPad Retina?

The company I work for is putting on an event, and we are considering some sort of photo booth for attendees.
We own a few large display monitors, and I was curious if we could use an iPad connected via VGA to the display to mirror Photo Booth as a way to create interest with other attendees at the event.
I think we would have some sort of stand that holds the iPad in place, where attendees can stand in front of it and snap pictures in Photo Booth. As that's happening, all the interaction on the iPad is mirrored to an external display next to the iPad stand.
Does Photo Booth support mirroring? Is this feasible?
Thanks in advance for any information!

Transfer the photo to your computer. Then You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • Why no firewire support for new iPods?

If firewire is so much better and faster why did the geniuses at Apple decide to discontinue support for it? It took me over 30 minutes to upload music & videos to my new iPod w/ USB, which would have taken 5-10 minutes with Firewire. I don't get it!

They did it because they obviously didn't see the need for it.
Either you have a usb 1.1 port, or have about 500mb of music. The speeds aren't that different between USB2.0 and FW. In fact, i think USB is faster. Stop complaining here, this is only a user-user support forum.

  • Will the new photos app and icloud photos library support all formats of pics and videos from my iphoto library?

I will be migrating my whole 200gb iPhoto library 9.5.1 mavericks over to Yosemite iPhoto 9.6.1 and then migrate to the new photos app and hopefully to the icloud.photos online. Does this all support all of my formats such as AVI videos in my iPhoto library. I don't want to lose those through migration.

I have this 31% issue too - when I attempt to update my iPhoto library to the new Photo app.
I have a few libraries - one on my mac, and two on a NAS. I access the NAS via wifi.
The mac based library did update, but the two network albums have yet to be successfully migrated over to Photo.
    It's driving me insane!!!

  • Does Photo Stream support GIFs?

I'm trying to add a GIF image to my photo stream by putting it in the Uploads folder on my PC, but it won't come up on my iPod Touch. Does photo stream even support GIFs, and if so, any guesses to why it might not be working? It has worked with JPGs before.

  • Photo album support needed

Apple - i can take pics, edit red eye, crop - which is cool.  But for the love of God, when will you improve photo album managent via the device?  Imagine a world where I can select a photo(s) and hit "MOVE TO ALBUM..." and it really moves it!  I mean I can edit video on this thing for pete sake but can't manage a photo album without an umbilical ala itunes or some "solution" app that is not a real solution at all.  Also privacy concerns seem legitimate when it comes to protecting content in the photo bucket - native password support would be cool too.

You are not addressing Apple here.

  • Apple iPhone tech support says, "Synching photos not supported."

I just got off a marathon (>1 hour) call with tech support on several issues regarding photos not synching and synched photos being corrupted on the iPhone (see here and here). At various times during the call (with several levels of tech support) I was told that:
    1. Photos must be modified using Adobe Albums for them to synch properly.
    2. Photos that don't synch properly must not have been created correctly.
    3. There must be something wrong with the camera that created the photos.
    4. The resolution for the photos must be incorrect.
    5. The Windows operating system must have something to do with it.
There were some others thrown in there, but those are the ones I remember off the top of my head. It was a rather frustrating call, perhaps made moreso by the fact that this was my first interaction with Apple tech support and I had high hopes of something other than the lackluster tech support I receive from most other tech companies out there.
In any case, the outcome of the call was that I was unable to open a trouble ticket. I tried insisting that this was either an iTunes defect or an iPhone one, but Apple disagreed saying--and this is a quote--"Apple makes no guarantee that you will be able to view your photos on your iPhone."
    Meh. :-/

Very nice, PTBoater! That did indeed seem to work for both the problem of photos not synching and the problem of synched photos being corrupted. I wonder why I haven't seen this suggested before? • Will A 5G iPod With A iPod Photo Dock Support Video Output?

    Hello everyone,
I recently sold my iPod photo and purchased a new 5G iPod. I kept my iPod Photo Dock because it has a S-Video and Audio-Out on it.
I was wondering however, before I commit to purchasing an Monster iTV cable for this dock, if iPod Photo dock will allow me to play video from my 5G iPod to my tv?
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Travis

We have one at home originally used with an iPod Photo. The iPod with video will charge over firewire, it just won't update. The USB and Firewire chargers are the same except for the connection.

  • LabView and Firewire support under Mac OS X

I've been following the Labview upgrades for Mac OS X and noticed that now there is a move towards supporting at least some USB and PCI devices. We have a DAQPad system in the lab that uses Firewire and I was wondering when NI will be supporting these types of devices under OS X under LabView...
I'd love to move all of our equipment off Windows simply for the ease of administering them and using OS X and Labview seems to be a great option except for the limitations on portable DAQ systems since it would appear that LabView isn't supported multifunction DAQ either USB / FW / PCMCIA very well under OS X.

I ordered NI USB-9161 thermocouple ADC. On the NI website it was claimed that the device can be used under windows, Linux and OS-X. However the cd included in the package only referred to Windows (in the read-me file on the cd however it was confirmed the device could be used under Linux and OS-X.)
I have downloaded the OS-X NI-DAQ MX Base from the NI website and installed the package. This package should have the USB driver. According to the docs with the USB device these devices come with stand alone datalogging software. However I can't locate any USB datalogging software anywhere on the NI website. Also one could test at least if the device is recognnized with the experimentation and automation explorer. Again I can't locate this app for the OS-X.
The OS X system detects a device 28082 (vendor: 14627) on the USB bus.
I would approeciate any help to get the USB-9161 working under OS-X.
    Thanks,

  • Does Pismo(Firewire) support OS 10 Tiger?

I have managed to up grade my old Pismo(Firewirs-400mhz) up to 10.3(Panther) but have several failed attempts upgrading to OS Tiger using the DVD installer disk. I am beginning to suspect that Pismo is showing it's limit here. Am I right? Has anyone been successful?

The Pismo will indeed support Tiger. You must meet the requirements to install Tiger: 256 MBs RAM minimum (512 MBs recommended) and 6 GBs or more free space on the hard drive. Be sure you have performed the firmware update. You must boot from OS 9.1 or higher in order to install the firmware update.
If you are trying to upgrade Panther as opposed to doing a clean install, then be sure you repair the hard drive and permissions before attempting to install OS X:
Boot from your OS X Installer. Be sure to use the installer for the version of OS X you have installed. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (or Utilities menu if using Tiger.) After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.0.6 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
