Photo folders on iCloud

Hi and hope you can help!
I am trying to organise my photos into albums and folders to share among my devices but I cannot seem to find a way. Maybe what I am trying to do is simply not possible Here is the info to see if anyone can help me!!
1. I have a Mac, two ipads and two iphones
2. My Mac is running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 and the two ipads (Air 2) and iphones (6 and 6 plus) are running iOS 8.
3. I am an event planner and have thousands of photos stored in my Mac, which are categorized into subfolders, for example:
     A. Venues
          aa. Hotels
               aaa. Hotel x
               aab. Hotel y
               aac. Hotel z
          ab. Villas
               aba. Villa x
               abb. Villa y
               abc. Villa z
          ac. Restaurants
                aca. Restaurant x
               acb. Restaurant y
               acc. Restaurant z
          etc etc
4. I would like to be able to share my folders and subfolders among all my devices
5. I would like all devices to get updated when the Mac folders are updated
IS THERE ANY WAY TO DO THIS?!?!

The new Photos.app will be able to store a photo library in iCloud, and allow you to define smart albums based on keywords.
If you tag all your photos with keywords, you could have smart albums based on keyword "Hotels", "Villas", "aaa. Hotel x" etc. These albums will automatically update if you add a keyword to a new photo, and the smart albums will automatically be the same on all your devices that are using iClous Photo Library.
If you wait a little longer, until the new Photos.app will be available for the Mac as well, you may get what you want for free.

How do i transfer photos from my icloud to my PC?

    Hello there, emz14.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great information in regard to getting photos from iCloud to your PC:
    iCloud: My Photo Stream FAQ
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4486
    Particularly:
How many photos are stored in My Photo Stream on my devices and computers?
iCloud pushes all your photos to the My Photo Stream album on your devices and computers, and manages them efficiently, so you don’t run out of storage space.
Your iOS devices keep a rolling collection of your last 1000 photos in the My Photo Stream album. From there, you can browse your recent photos or move the ones you like to your Camera Roll or another album to keep them on your device forever.
Because your Mac and PC have more storage than your iOS devices, you can choose to have all of your My Photo Stream photos automatically downloaded. In iPhoto or Aperture preferences on your Mac, select Photos (or Photo Stream) > My Photo Stream > Automatic Import. All of your photo stream photos will be imported into your Events, Projects, Photos, Faces, and Places folders in iPhoto or Aperture. On your PC with My Photo Stream enabled in the Control Panel, all of your photos will be imported into C:\\Users\<user name>\Pictures\iCloud Photos\My Photo Stream. For iCloud Control Panel 2.1 to 2.1.3 users, the path isC:\\Users\<user name>\Pictures\Photo Stream\My Photo Stream.
If you are working on a Windows computer and need to download the iCloud Control Panel, here is a link for you:

  • How do you create a folder/folders in iCloud?

    Hello!
I am wondering if you can create folders on iCloud.  I am a West Virginia University Student studying Accounting.  I really like the iWork Suite of products and the ability to take notes in class on my iPad.  However, I am getting a great deal of documents from downloading information from professors from the main campus server as well as having to look up information.  I carry both my MacBook Pro and iPad because the iPad will not run Flash which is essential in using Pearson's MyAccounting Lab and several other products.  I would like to better organize the documents that I have created so that I can bring up a folder pertaining to a class and have those documents in that folder.  Right now they all are on iCloud and I have many there and it takes a while to drudge through all of them.  I am sure there is probably a way to do this, I haven't figured it out yet.
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks

iPhoto only shows the existing albums. You create the albums in the Photos app - show the albums in "Photos" and press the "+" button to create a new album and to name it. Then open your camera roll and select images to add to the new album.

How do i see what photos are in icloud?
I have duplicate photos appearing in my photo library and in another folder underneath the photo library on my Iphone5.  This is killing my free space and i cant delete them from the phone because I dont have that option within those folders.  How do i delete them?

    Good day AMELIASARAH,
One resolution to your issue would be to update your iPhone using iTunes on your computer rather than over the air. This requires much less space on the iPhone as most of the work is done by the computer. See this article for how to do it -

  • I have selected to have photos in my icloud but the photo folder does not appear.

I have selected to have photos in my icloud but the photo folder does not appear in icloud. There are many folders, like mail, but none for photos.

You can see photo stream photos on icloud.com.  You can only see them on an iOS device or computer that is signed into your account with photo stream enabled.  If you want to see them on the web, you would have to add the photos to a shared stream using the public website option enabled (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmc0cd7e99).  This gives you a private url allowing you to view them from any computer browser.

  • All photos in my icloud file on my pc have a padlock icon. How do I unlock the padlock so that I can move the photos to other applications or attachments?

All photos in my icloud file on my pc have a padlock icon.  How do I unlock the photos so that I can upload/download for other applications?  Please help!?

    Create main folder e.g. Folder A, then sub-folders inside A e.g. B, C, D and have your Photos in B, C, D.
In iTunes Sync, click your device on the left Pane, then on right pane select "Photo" tab.
Make sure Sync photo box is checked, then select folder A, then All folders box within the selection.
Click Apply or Sync button at the lower right window.
you will have B,C,D folders under Albums.

  • I have a MacAir installed with Aperture.  All my photo's are stored on exdternal drive. How do I upload all these to iCloud - some 50 GB and 10,000  photos? My iCloud has 200GB storage.

I have a MacAir recently installed with Aperture.  All my photo's are currently stored on external hard drive in 100s of folders.  How do I upload all these photos in their folders to iCloud.  My iCloud storage is 200GB.

Wait, until MacOS X 10.10.3 has been released his spring. The Photo.app for Mac, that will come with MacOS X 10.10.3 will make it possible to migrate an Aperture library to a Photos Library and store it in iCloud, so you can use it from all your devices, see this link: Apple - OS X - Photos Preview
But Aperture libraries cannot by stored in a cloud storage. An Aperture library needs to be on a locally mounted drive, because aperture does not support remote access to the library. If you try to move your Aperture library to a Dropbox or on iCloud Drive, it will be corrupted by the network access.
See Apple's recommendations:   Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library

  • How can i import external data into folders in iCloud?

I currently have all my iPhoto folders stored on a external harddrive (removed from iPhoto) and would like to put them in iCloud. The unfortunate thing is that i have an Macbook Air, and not enough memory to put all the folders back in iPhoto to have them uploaded to iCloud.
    - i have tried iCloud Drive, but this doesn't create folders..
    Thanks!

You can create folders on iCloud Drive, like you create folders in Finder on your hard drive.
Just open iCloud Drive in Finder and enter ⌘N to create a new folder. Then drag your photos to that folder and rename the folder.
Only the special folders created by the standard apps do not allow to create deeply nested folders inside  these folders.
The unfortunate thing is that i have an Macbook Air, and not enough memory to put all the folders back in iPhoto to have them uploaded to iCloud.
If you want to move the photos to iCloud Drive to save space on your MacBook Air, that will not work.  For any file you store on iCloud Drive there will be a shadow copy on your Mac, so you cannot save space on your MacBook Air this way. You need as much spce on your MAcBook Air as you are using in iCloud.  Maybe this will change in future MacOS X versions, but right now you will have all iCloud files stored locally as well.

  • The folders under iCloud Drive are not being uploaded to iCloud

I seem to read similar problem reports in this group but I want to make sure that indeed it is the same problem I am having. I moved all my folders to iCloud Drive some weeks ago and they were being uploaded to the cloud since then. In total I have 150 gigabytes of folders and about 100 are uploaded to the cloud which I can see in the settings of iCloud under system preferences. I realise that during the last week nothing is being uploaded anymore. There is still about 50 gigabyte of files that need to be uploaded automatically but nothing happens. I do not understand how the upload process works. What determines when the upload takes place? What determines how much of my files will be uploaded today and then the next day: because sometimes the upload used to take place the whole day while at other days only for a few hours. I definitely need a clarification here. Could some please respond?

If you're talking about photo stream:
    Check the following:
From your Home screen, tap Settings > iCloud > Photo Stream, and make sure the slider is set to the ON position.  If grayed out, check Restrictions in Settings>General.
From the Home screen, tap Settings > Wi-Fi, make sure the slider is set to ON, and that your device is connected to a wireless network.
Ensure that Camera app is closed on the device where you took the photo. Photo Stream will not upload photos from an iOS device until the Camera app is closed.
Ensure your iOS device has not fallen below 20% battery power. To preserve battery life, Photo Stream downloading and uploading are disabled when the battery reaches this threshold. Downloading and uploading will resume once you charge your device, and the battery charge is greater than 20%.
Note that when photo stream is turned on, only pictures taken from that point on will go to the stream, not existing photos.  For those, sync them to a computer using itunes and USB cable.

  • Cannot sync all my photo folders into the iPhone 4

To be honest I am not certain this qualifies as either an IPhone issue or an iTunes issue, so I thought I'd start here...
This is my problem:  I am trying to sync some photo folders into my iphone 4 (running on iOS 7.1.1) using iTunes for Windows (11.2.0.115), a collection of wallpapers I made for my iphone.  I made a total of 1390 files which currently take only a little over 144 MB.  Before the sync I checked on the iphone 'USAGE' to see the space available in it, and it reported I had 1.29 GB of space available (Confirmed by iTunes when I connected to my computer to start the sync).
When the sync procedure got to the point of importing the photos, it reported it was only importing 895 photos out of the 1390, leaving 495 photos out of the import.
All of the photos are JPEG files, and I verified none of them are corrupted.  Also, I am not getting any error message indicating that the sync was stopped, or any message indicating that I had run out of space.
When the sync was finished, iTunes reported my iPhone still had 1.12 GB space available.
Can somebody please explain to me WHY is the sync procedure not importing all the photos I wish to import into the iPhone?
Any info any of you could send my way would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your time.

Your a bit stuck if you didn't back up your old computer.
But your apps can be re-downloaded later using your itunes account; you won't have to pay again.
You can download all your photos via wifi using an app like "wifi photo transfer".
There is no way anyone here can help you extract the music off your iPhone; iPhones were built to hold music to listen to, not to be able to get back off.
On the plus side again you can redownload all purchased music via itunes for free.
My advice would be to back up your computer this time.
And also to use icloud to back up your new iPhone.
If you have your old iPhone when you set up the new one it shouldn't take more then half a day to re-download everything and be close to the same.
    Good luck.

  • How to share the Photos library on iCloud Drive with other family members?

I have uploaded our family photo-library to iCloud drive (136GB+). It works great!
But how can my wife (with her own iCloud-account, but within the family) see and use our library?

Tnx for the reply, though I already feared this was the answer.
Family sharing works well for keeping contact lists separated and we do not need to see all the crap the other half shoots with their iPhone.
But as family-members, we DO want to use our communal photo-library.
It would be great if you could share your entire library with family-members or at least select which albums to share with who.
Also it is silly that you can share a photo only to one other iCloud-album. If I shoot a nice pic of the kids I would want to share it with my wife AND with others.
The same would work for contacts. The family-head should be able to assign which contacts are shared and which are separate.
I hope Apple will update the family-possibilities so that this is fixed.

  • How do I remove photos uploaded to iCloud from my iPhone 6 ?

So I'm wondering how I can keep photos I have uploaded to my iCloud account off my iPhone 6 Plus to free up some disk space. After all, one of the benefits of having cloud storage is to store files remotely so you have more space on your hard drive. But, every time I try to delete a photo from my phone it says that "This photo will be deleted from iCloud Photo Library on all your devices."
Which, it seems to me, is kind of beside the point.
    Any ideas, anyone?
I'm running iOS 8.1.2 on an iPhone 6 Plus.

Unfortunately iCloud does not work like  and wasn't meant to. This may change moving forward.
iCloud Photo Library is still in beta and the way it functions may also change.
Currently it does not keep a full resolution version on the device, so your 20GB of photos will not take up 20GB on your device.
How does iCloud Photo Library save space on my device?
If you turn on Optimize [device] Storage, iCloud Photo Library will automatically manage the size of your library on your iOS device, so you can make the most of your device's storage and access more photos than ever. iCloud Photo Library stores the original, high-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and can keep lightweight, device-optimized versions on each of your devices. As long as you have enough storage, recent photos and videos that you access the most will stay on your device at full resolution.
You can turn on Optimize [device] Storage from Settings > iCloud > Photos or Settings > Photos & Camera > iCloud Photo Library on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. You need an Internet connection to access an original photo or video that’s stored only in iCloud.
iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ - Apple Support
It defeats your purpose but not everyone's in general. For instance, I too have the 20GB plan and I use mine mostly for my iCloud backups (iPhone & iPad) and the contents of my iCloud Drive.
A service like Dropbox may better suit your needs. It can be configured to automatically upload your photos. Since iCloud storage plans are now based on a monthly commitment, you can just simply cancel before the next auto renew.
