Photo from iPhoto gets cropped when inserted into iMovie

My old video (miniDV camcorder, DV) is 4:3 and lower resolution than my photos (16:9, good digicam). I inserted a vertical photo into a video project, and the photo gets truncated on playback.
I expected it to be scaled to fit when shown on the screen, like iPhoto does.
Am I doing something wrong? Please tell me iMovie handles inserted photos sensibly.

WHat version of iMovie, and iPhoto?
THIs forum is for iMovie iOS (iPads, iPhones).
Are you talking about iMovie for Mac?

If the images are in the location you want them be sure to select "Add" at the top of the import dialog box.

Do you have iPhoto setup as the mail client?  If so go into iPhoto's Accounts preference pane, delte the email account, close iPhoto and reopen and add the account back in.
Or you can change the email client in iPhoto's General preference pane to Mail.  Many users found that it works when the iPhoto client wouldn't  If you want photo templates Mail has photo stationary templates that you can select.

  • Downloaded photoshop CS6 to my new iMac. Opened photoshop but can't bring in a photo from iPhoto - get message that says photoshop does not recognize this type file. Suggestions?

I donwloaded photoshop CS6 to my new iMac. Opened photoshop but cannot openn a photo from iPhoto library - I get a message that says cannot complete  our request becausse photoshop does not recognize this type file.

You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • Can I delete photos from iPhoto that were used in an iMovie Project?

I made an iMovie Project with a lot of photos from iPhoto. I don't want some of the photos anymore. I would like to delete them from iPhoto but I am afraid it might affect the iMovie Project. Does any body know?

If you've finished the iMovie project and exported it to other media or file format, then yes, you can delete the files from iPhoto.
If the iMovie project isn't finished you should leave things alone.

  • Will my previously sync'd Flickr photos (from iPhoto) get removed from Flickr

    Hi,
I am very nervous of using the new Photos App and losing all my previously sync'd Flickr Photos that I configured from iPhoto - some of them have thousands of views / comments and fav's that I would hate to lose.
My photo library has been migrated to Photos App now, so I presume that as long as I don't fire up iPhoto again, I should be fine - as once the photos are sync'd to Flickr from iPhoto then as long as iPhoto doesn't try and remove them it should be fine and it can't do that if you don't start it up.
My concern is what happens when I try and share a photo to Flickr from the new Photos App - is this going to reset all my photos that have been previously shared to Flickr (and hence lose the previously uploaded ones from iPhoto) or will it just share additional photos as a new individual photos? It seems whereas iPhoto ran a complex Sync type relationship with Flickr, the Photos App Sharing to Flickr is much more basic.
Can anyone put my mind at rest because I would be mortified to end up losing my Flickr Photos?
    Rgds

  • Clip gets cropped when importing to iMovie 9

Hi I am trying to import video from a Samsung HD camera into iMove 9. The clips appear in the event file but when I play them the last 5 or seconds are not there - they seem to have been clipped in the import process.
    Any one got any ideas?

So the playback stops altogether after about the 20 minute mark?  It doesn't just start a new clip?
The scene length limit shouldn't matter assuming it's unchecked.  You might also uncheck the Start a new clip at each scene break.
Is the camera running on batteries?  If so, try using the AC adapter.
You can try importing once more if you want, but if it were me, I wouldn't waste the time.  I'd just make a new clip of the missing portion with enough overlap to be able to crossfae from the audio on the first clip to the audio on the second clip.  That should help minimize the audio gap.
The trick is to allow the music crossfade to complete prior to the edit in picture. It will take a bit of trial and error to get the sync right, but I think it will still be fast than completely re-importing from tape.

  • Decreased JPEG quality when inserted into iMovie as stillframe

I am trying to create a 1 minute video of still frames that consists of a picture that has a duration for 1 second, followed by a black screen for .5 second, repeated until the end of the video.
What I am finding is that the quality of the JPEG decreases when it is inserted to iMovie and is then saved to a file format that would work within presentations (often .wmv). I have tried saving as Quicktime and then using other programs to convert to .wmv but experience the same problem.
Is there an easy solution to this problem? I'd appreciate any help that I can get.

Sounds like you are creating web graphics. Your project is almost the a standard web banner size. It's very small. If your composition window is set to full resolution and 100% scale and the imported images are not perfect then follow these instructions.
The comp must be set to square pixels and an even number of pixels high and wide
The quality setting of the layer in the timeline must be set to high quality (the slash should be solid and go this way /)
Your original images should be created in square pixels (most are) and they should be an even number of pixels high and wide
Your images should be set to 100% scale.
Do that and you'll get a pixel for pixel reproduction of the original image. If you scale, rotate, or mix pixel aspect ratios then the pixels will be reinterpreted. If the image is an odd number of pixels high or wide then the pixels won't line up.

  • Images exported from iPhoto 6 cannot be inserted into Word:Mac OSX document

I recently bought a new camera (Nikon D90). I have no problem importing the photos into iPhoto 6 as jpgs, but I am unable to insert the photos (in jpg format) into Word OSX documents. I get a message that says "This application cannot open this file. This file is an unsupported graphic format or may be damaged. Try opening the graphic in another application". I never had this problem with any of the other 3 cameras I have used (Sony and Canon). Has anyone experienced this problem?

    Brad
What settings did you use in the Export Dialogue?
When you go File -> Export you get a tabbed box with various options. In the File Export tab you can choose to scale the pics, or keep them the same size, change or retain the format.

  • Google Maps URLs get corrupted when inserted into Numbers

I've noticed that Numbers doesn't like complex Google Maps URLs. Directions between any 2 points should work fine, but if you make a custom path like so:
    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=sd&saddr=9825Topanga+Canyon+Blvd,+Chatsworth,+CA+91311&daddr=Owensmouth+Ave+to:9451+corbin+av e+to:34.250264,-118.583765+to:Plummer+St+to:Variel+Ave+to:DevonshireSt&hl=en&geocode=Fe-ZCgIdVTXu-CnpxqLmxpzCgDHDDutQPA47UQ%3BFXq1CgIdMEju-A%3BFfB9C gIdlN3u-CmXlkTrcZvCgDER1wGVO-6aVg%3B%3BFaCACgIdU2u-A%3BFQCOCgIdb2ru-A%3BFU65CgIdbkju-A&mra=dpe&mrcr=1&mrsp=3&sz=14&via=1,3,5&sll= 34.251612,-118.583765&sspn=0.056331,0.079479&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=14
Some of the percent signs (%) get changed to %25 or whatever the proper HTML escape code is.
The funny thing is, these URLs are still valid Google Maps addresses, but now show different routes, generally in the same neighborhood!
Does anyone know how to force Numbers to accept a URL as is without modifying it?

As I explained yesterdays in an other thread, the problem is that you don't use Numbers correctly.
Inserting an URL as is in a cell is a wrongdoer.
The correct soluce is the use of the dedicated function : HYPERLINK()
    =HYPERLINK("http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=sd&saddr=9825Topanga+Canyon+Blvd.+Chatsworth.+CA+91311&daddr=Owensmouth+Ave+to:9451+corbin+av e+to:34.250264.-118.583765+to:Plummer+St+to:Variel+Ave+to:DevonshireSt&hl=en&geocode=Fe-ZCgIdVTXu-CnpxqLmxpzCgDHDDutQPA47UQ%3BFXq1CgIdMEju-A%3BFfB9C gIdlN3u-CmXlkTrcZvCgDER1wGVO-6aVg%3B%3BFaCACgIdU2_u-A%3BFQCOCgIdb2ru-A%3BFU65CgI dbkju-A&mra=dpe&mrcr=1&mrsp=3&sz=14&via=1.3.5&sll=34.251612.-118.583765&sspn=0.0 56331.0.079479&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=14","googlemap")
With this formula all behave flawlessly.

  • I am trying to import my photos from iphoto 11   into Aperture v3.0

I am trying to import my photos from iphoto 11 v9.4.3  into Aperture v3.0. When I select import I get a message saying Aperture cannot import libraries from version earlier that iphoto 7.1.5 and tells me to upgrade to a lter version of iphoto. Advice ?

I am on MAC OS X Version 10.8.5
Is Aperture 3.0 still correct or have you upgraded to Aperture 3.4.5? Only Aperture 3.4.5 can import iPhoto 9.4.3 libraries.
As I said above, you can download the updater for Aperture here:

  • How can I email photos from iphoto '11?

I am having trouble emailing photos from iphoto '11.  When I put the recipients address in, it disappears when I click "send" and I get some message about "key chain" and iphoto wants to use my confidential information????    What I ended up doing is dragging and dropping the photo into the email, but I don't want to have to do that all the time.  I just got this MacBook Pro and iphoto program so am experiencing a learning curve.  I must be doing something wrong.  Is it safe to "always allow" this "key chain" info?
    Thanks, you wonderful community.
    Sheila
Update!   I just tried this again by "allowing" for this one photo.  I'm not sure what I'm allowing, but the photo was sent this time.  Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Sheila

Sharing you are allowing the email to be sent.
Your SMTP has a password and it is confidential, if you do not agree it does not have access to that password.
