PHOTO GADGETS

Wondering why when you choose 8x10 Photo to print on an 8.5x11 paper its not 8x10.
Also wondering why it does not have an 8x10 borderless setting.
Using 7410 all in one HP printer and Windows 7
Any one have this same problem?

When you have completed your lasso selection, you should see the "marching ants", the animated outline around the area you selected. Don't click in the photo again or you will lose your selection. When the selection is active (ants are marching), just press Ctrl+C (command+C on a mac) to copy the selection. Then you can paste it into another photo by using Ctrl+V (command+V), or go to File>New>From Clipboard to save the face into a separate file so you can use it later.

    Photo Gadget version 2.0
If I have the printer dialog open, when I drag a photo to the gadget, it actually shows the file being spooled to the printer, but nothing prints out.  The correct printer is selected.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled.  No joy.

It seems to be size related as far as I can tell; I've had no issue getting 2592x1944 pictures (typically around or under 2Mb each) to sync but photos from a newer camera shot at 5184x3456 (usually around 5-6 Mb) won't. I was going to play around with resizing some of my library but haven't gotten around to it yet.

  • Adobe Flash crash fix not effective on all sites

I'm running Firefox 3.26.28, which has suited me fine. Yesterday I made the mistake of "upgrading" to Flash 11.3 & met the endless crashes described elsewhere. Figuring that returning to Flash 10.3 might get Firefox working again, I uninstalled 11.3, downloaded the 10.3 installer, & successfully installed 10.3. Firefox is stable again & Flash works at (for example) YouTube. However, if I try to add a photo to an eBay sale page, eBay (?) puts up a message saying I can't use its better photo gadget unless I install Flash, that is, it no longer recognizes 10.3, even though it did previously. I hope there's a fix here, because I don't expect much from Adobe or eBay.

You should first update to Firefox 15, as Firefox 3.6 is not supported and no longer receives updates, meaning it is currently insecure. After upgrading, I'd suggest updating to Flash 11.4 and disable protected mode. [http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1018071?tstart=0 http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1018071?tstart=0]

  • Recently backing up my ipad onto my macbook, which is the backup server for all of my gadgets.  This includes all my photos and tons of music.  The macbook said it could not backup the ipad because there was insufficient disc space to do so. What now?

I have a macbook operating OSX10.6.7.  Recently backing up my ipad which had lots of photos from a recent vacation.  I use this laptop as the backup server for all of my gadgets so it has thousands of photos and tons of music.  It just told me that it couldn't back up the ipad bc there wasn't enough disc space.  I was afraid that this would happen eventually.  What next?  Newer laptop with more space?  I'm not sure what files I could sacrifice to free up more space as most of these are important.

What size hard drive do you have in your MacBook? The cheapest options are, a larger internal hard drive, or an external drive. Or you could get a cheap desktop PC and network to it for storage. I've got one that lives in the hall with 3 Terabytes (That's 3000gb) of storage.

  • Bug: c410b - hp photo print gadget 2.0 32bit does not have plain paper in drop down

    printer:  c410b
    os:  windows 7 ultimate 32bit
hp photo print sidebar gadget does not have plain paper in the paper type drop down and also resets itself to default if you close and re-open the gadget.
also, if i select the 'fax' bit of it...  plain paper become available.  return to the 'non-fax' bit...  it reverts to only the glossy paper types.
also tested the old 2008 dated gadget that i found buried on your ftp server.  same behaviour.
64 bit does and works perfectly.
verified on 5 machines.  latest 'full' exe used to install.  never touched the cd.
same behaviour after removing and re-installing the gadget with the download file from hp web site.
edit:  for any hp staff - online chat with your tech (who couldn't help) reference is 8590546

bump.  got an email today saying to call HP in the USA because I have the wrong printer settings.  they also quoted a c410a even though i told them numerous times a c410b.
number 1 - i'm in the UK and don't want to call USA to be on hold for an hour for some college-drop-out to tell me *i'm* wrong.
number 2 - 5 32bit machines and i went round to a different location and tried 3 more machines there.  same.
number 3 - *what* setting?  you install the gadget, click the options 'wrench' and the paper types are in there...  *everything* else on the printer works...  just not the 32 bit gadget - no plain paper available to choose and paper tray keeps reverting to photo tray.
number 4 - it works on several 64 bit machines, with the same settings.
i'm guessing a system-locale issue where the gadget doesn't poll the driver properly for UK paper sizes or something.
    any help?  anyone?

  • Why do photos take so long to sync with my iPod touch?

Recently my 60Gb iPod touch has been taking longer and longer to sync photos. Music, movies, apps, etc are all ok, its just pictures taking a very long time indeed.
I have tried resetting and erasing all data to start from scratch but I still have the same issue. For instance, I set the iPod syncing at 0830 this morning, went out for the day and as I type now at 2215, (well over 12 hours later) iTunes says it is 'optimizing photo 4103 of 9713'. Not only that, it only appears to be optimizing 1 photo every minute or so. Do the math, its going to take forever to complete the process!
I know its a lot of photos, but it never used to be problem. I should mention that my data is on a remote Netgear Stora 1Tb drive, but I dont see how this would make a difference, as music, movies, etc are copied over extremely fast. It is only photos that are causing me problems.
I would be grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction on this one.
    Cheers,
    Vmondo

    Vmondo--
A couple of items, one of which has already been mentioned: Picture size. Another is picture type; jpegs seem to load faster.
iOS4 has several new bells and whistles, which may affect things. Things like folders, multitasking, etc. also consume processing speed. The iPod isn't like my MacBook which processes things really quickly. It should; it has more processing capability.
As a side note, part of the issue may be iTunes for Windows itself. (No proof, but the iPod is an Apple gadget, and as such works slightly better with a Mac. Slightly is the key word here.)
Finally...the iPod is, at the end of the day, a music device--not a pocket sized photo album. That it can hold every digital picture one has taken in the last five years is not really relevant. It can hold video clips, pictures, etc. but it's still a device for music and some well-crafted apps. The hope is that, in the next update of iOS4, the picture issue (because you're not alone) can/will be resolved.
    Now...
    1. I tried answering this above.
    2. You might want to check your settings for photos. It shouldn't be optimizing every time you synch, I wouldn't think, unless you are adding or changing pictures.
You can fill your iPod with whatever you want. From Computer Science 225: All an iPod is, is a fancy HD like what is on a computer. The more you put on the HD, the slower it takes to get where you want to go. This is why it is recommended if you get to with 10-15% of full on your HD, you remove stuff--or get a larger HD and migrate everything on the old HD to it. Even a SSD like the iPod touch has a limit, based on processor speed and available memory.

  • How do I calibrate the monitor to the printed photo for equal color tone and brightness?

Where in the program do I calibrate the monitor color to the resulting printed color.  My printed photo is much duller and "blacker" than the monitor.  Other color programs has a setup section to plug in the monitor's ICC profile along with the printer used so the resulting printed photo is very close to your adjusted photo on the monitor.

My Satellite seems very bright and the people looked washed out.  I used th ctrl, alt f12 key and there was a contrast adjustment.  I just can't seem to get a nice natural color from the computer.  Can someone let me know what they use or what looks good to them.  The factory default seems way to bright and people look to bright??  Thanks so much in advance...

  • I upgraded to mountain lion from snow leopard, now my photo studio software is no longer supported by powerpc. Does anyone know of a fix so my photostudio will work?

I upgraded to mountain lion from snow leopard, but now some of my applications do not work, most specifically I would like to use my photo studio, but now it tells me that powerpc is no longer supported.  Does anyone have any fixes to this problem? I would really like to continue to use software that I already have! Thank you for your help!

PPC software will not work in Mountain Lion because there is no longer any Rosetta emulator. You will only be able to run your older software by creating another partition on your hard drive on which you can install Snow Leopard. It need not be a large partition since you can still keep your files and programs on the main partition. You could also install Snow Leopard on an external drive from which to boot the computer.
To resize the drive do the following:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    2. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.  (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
    4. Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss.  Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.
After you create the new partition boot the computer from your Snow Leopard DVD and install Snow Leopard onto the new partition.

  • My responce to Apple's request to try Photos as an Aperture user

From what I've seen and read from reviewers regarding the new Photos App, I currently have no interest. Maybe that will change but I am totally dismayed you would completely give up on the professional market and thoroughly dismantle a truly name brand product that professionals like me depended on. I bought a $7000.00 MacPro specifically for Aperture and within two months you announce Apertures demise.
I also use FCPX and your decision to abandon Aperture has made me rethink why I'm using FCPX. I ask myself, why would the professional video crowd be any more important then the professional still shooters? I can't come up with any plausible reason and so I'm now looking into migrating my entire multimedia workflow over to Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Premier. I don't want to but you have given me no choice. And just think, my computer options will be expanded once I get in to the Adobe ecosystem since they support both OSX and Windows. By the way, I switched from MS-Windows specifically for Aperture. I don't think you have any idea how much disappointment and frustration you have caused your truly loyal Apple base. I'm hopeful you may eventually come to your senses and reverse your decision to kill Aperture.

Well the phone is where the vast bulk of the (vast) profits are. That's the new reality.
I don't believe that Apple are 'dropping the desktop', nor do I think that they are trying to lure iOS users to OS X. I think it's a bit more simple than that. They are quietly building up a steady suite of software that
    1. Provides a very similar user experience on OS X, the Cloud and iOS. Moving between the three interfaces retains a similar experiences, even if the OS X version is more capable.
    2. Shares data across the three interfaces so that you can move from device to device effortlessly
    3. Is (and for pro users this is the key point) good-enough-for-most-people
So, create a doc in Pages on your Mac, switch to a Windows machine and continue working on it in the web browser and then finish it off on your iPad or iPhone later. It's quite a trick when it works. But Pages present an excellent example of an app that's 'good-enough-for-most-people'. Write letters and simple page-layouts and so on. But if you want a complex word-processing document, then you go to a 3rd party vendor - MS, Nisus, Mellel - for a more powerful specialised app to do your job.
The advantage for Apple is clear. A common suite of apps that work pretty much the same throughout the ecosystem. The user can move effortlessly from one gadget to another and it's all quite seamless. As good middle of the road apps they're relatively easy to maintain and develop. Plus, there is also a healthy aftermarket for 3rd party developers to specialise in. Easy to use Spreadsheet: Numbers. Complex financial planning: Excel. So, Apple are happy, the other vendors are happy developing into a market where they are not competing with Apple.
This is actually still a better offer for most users than Windows. You still have to buy these apps on Windows, but they're all free on Macs.
When Apple was in trouble it went after niche markets - video and photography being two - aggressively. Now they don't need to do that. If you're a iPhone photographer (and face it, more people are than are DSLR shooters) then Photos will likely be just what you want. If you're a specialised shooter you need to go 3rd party - LR, CaptureOne whatever.
Not saying I like this. I'll miss Aperture. And I'd be a nervous FCP or Logic user. But that seems to be what they are doing.

  • How can I use Photoshop to take a section of a photo and make it a Photo?

I am sorry to sound so stupid and have typed this question about 5 times now trying to get it to the right forum. I have Photoshop Elements 10 which I work with sparingly. I would like to outline a section of the photo (a face) and somehow select it to be the whole photo - in other words to get rid of all background elements. I can outline the area with lasso, but do not know how to just save that area. When I save, the whole original photo is saved. I also tried the magic extractor, which really worked to make just the face and crop everthing else out, but it has a white background the same size as the original photo, which means it is essentially a reactangle with a face in it. I am trying to just get the face so I can paste it into a document, sort of like when people put heads on fake bodies. This is for a church newsletter. I have done this with my old Picture It software, but that was on my old computer. I think I should be able to do this with all the gadgets Photo Shop has, but I must be missing something.

  • Photo close-ups get wider

I use online and local photo services for 4X6 prints of photos. I have used several and find they produce prints with varying quality of light/dark, saturation, hue, and amount of cropping. Each time a set comes back, I check each print with what I see on my monitor. One effect I have noticed recently from the last two photo services is that a close-up of a face is wider on the print than on my monitor. I am puzzled. I checked back looking at some photos printed by Sony Image Station and discovered that they crop less than the other services and the resulting photos are less distorted. Unfortunately, Sony Image Station is going out of business. Local services I use are Meijer stores and CVS. The latest online service I tried is York.
I have a 2-year old Dell Dimension 4700, 1905FP Ultrasharp Digital Flat Panel Display. I calibrate the monitor once a month with an EYE ONE gadget that I purchased dirt cheap some time ago when a new model came out. My color preferences are "no color management". My photos are exactly 4X6 as indicated in PE editor, Image|resize|Image. It almost seems as if the printer crops the photo and then stretches it back out to 4X6. Does that make sense? Has anyone else noticed this? Or is my monitor at fault?
    Eva

    Eva,
I have noticed the same thing, using the Kodak machine in CVS. They definitely crop; I suppose that is how they automate a borderless print rendition. I became aware of this a couple of years ago when I added text to the bottom right of a picture for the purpose of documentation. The print from the machine came out without the text.
Recently I sized a 4x6 to 4.2x6.2 in Image>resize>image size, thereby allowing the machine some freedom to crop non-critical portions in the periphery. I did not notice any distortion with this technique, although I went to a very recently opened CVS which has a new generation machine with enhanced features.
Let us know how you make out, so that we may benefit from your subsequent experience.

After I did the update last week, I noticed all of my photos, movies, tv, and music were wiped off of my ATV. I thought sh*t, that *****, but maybe that was supposed to happen with the update right? So I connected the cord, resynced, and waited an hour to upload everuthing... now, 5 days later, all my media is gone again. Now I can totally resync with my itunes, AGAIN, but duuuuuuuudddde, why does every Applie update end up being a pain in the backside? Is anyeone else having this issue? Any advice outthere?

  • Nokia Life Blog Nokia Photos and Nseries PC Suite...

    Hi
    I'm a power user and own N95.
I try to install almost all available applications on PC related to my mobile.
So I installed PC Suite 7 and using the same successfully.
But now I installed Nokia Photos (latest name of Nokia Life Blog, as they say). The same installed correctly, but when I run it, it gives the error on the splash screen itself (something like "Nokia Photos has encountered a problem and needs to close").
I've tried uninstalling, then rebooting, and then reinstalling/repairing etc.
    2. When I try to install NSeries PC Suite (after exiting-- not uninstalling-- normal PC Suite V7), I get some error in the end of installation: "NNPCSUI has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
    Any clue?
Wish#1: MP3 Tag Editor capable of editing ratings.
Wish#2: Android type Video player, highly efficient player capable of playing all formats.
Wish#3: Without Google Maps (and products), no gadget is worth keeping.

    Hi zopfan,
Could you please confirm your PC details??? What all you have uninstalled already from your PC? You have informed that you have uninstalled Nokia NSeries PC Suite? So you can decide which applications you are going to use? If you want to send SMS and contact editor please do stick with Nokia PC Suite 7.0.7.0 or you can install Nokia NSeries PC suite on your PC or you can also install Nokia OVI Suite too. As far as i know, you can have both the PC suites on your PC without any issues. To resolve your issue, you can uninstall Nokia PC Suite, PC Connectivity solution, Nokia Connectivity cable driver, Run some reliable PC Suite cleaner, which will clean unwanted registried from your PC. Then you install any of the three PC Suite
    Nokia PC Suite 7.0.7.0 or
Nokia NSeries PC Suite 2.0.262.0 or
Nokia OVI Suite 1.0 depending on your need.
Then try to install Nokia Photos on your PC reboot the system and then try :0 You can follow in the same discussion forum for your nokia photos and lifeblog issues, as some of the issues were discussed already in this forum, or google and check for the posts related to Nokia photos and nokia lifeblog

Photo Problem:  When you opened the picture and then deleted it , the picture was still in memory and when the menu tried to go back one step the picture was no longer there so reset the phone.  Bug? Don't know, I would suggest that if you want to delete files do so in list view not whilst viewing the file you want to delete.  If you tried to do this in windows it would give you an error messaeg something like "this file is in use"
Media PLayer Problem:  This could be down to Software, it could also be down to a memory card read error.
Try taking card out and using a memory card reader check that all files are readable.  If one of the files is corrupt the media player may be trying to look for files to add to playlist and when it gets to the corrupt one bombs out.
