Photo Icons now have White Border in Finder...

My Photo Icons in the Finder, suddenly all have White Borders. What has changed? Something in an update? How do I turn this white border off? It's made all the pictures in the icons smaller. If this was supposed to be an improvement, it should really have been optional.

Umparrothead, How was it that it worked for years (no borders) with or without a custom thumbnail, unless the custom thumbnails have all suddenly disappeared?
Looking through my many folders of pictures, yes, some have the borderless, custom thumbnails, but very few. Basically anything produced with Photoshop (that I'm sure creates a custom thumbnail).
I'm thinking that the 'image preview' method you describe, had in the past, drawn the thumbnail without the white border, and some software update has changed things?
I only know that I have never seen these white borders till very lately, and I have thousands of images on my Mac.
And you're right, I'd hate to go through all my images to create custom thumbnails, resetting dates etc.
There must be a way to tell OSX to display the thumbnail of an image file (that does not already have a custom thumbnail) without the white border?

  • My new iMac with Yosemite displays photo icons with a white border.  How can I remove this border?

How can I remove the white border/'frame' around the photo icons, which I store in folders other than iPhoto?
My computer is an iMac 27" (Late 2014 5K Retina display) with Yosemite 10.10.3.
The border does not exist on any photos /images created on my MacbookPro (Lion) or any earlier computers.  It appears after importing to the iMac and only then after saving in either Preview or Photoshop Elements.
I have looked in all "Preferences" but could not find how to remove the border.
Any advice will be gratefully received.

Thank you for the reply. I wanted to wait awhile in order to ensure that this corrected the issue. For a brief while, it did! However, it did not take long before the screen began once again hijacking my home button presses. This occurs even with Firefox removed from default applications ( triple-checked ).
This never happened before version 35.

  • How to combine two photos in one without white border?

I am trying to combine two different photos next to each other (each 10 cm * 7.5 cm) in one of 10 cm * 15 cm and save it as a jpg file. Unfortunately when I do this in the print module (custom package) I get a file with a white border. I have set up page settings to 10*15 cm without border. How can I get a combined file without a border?

    Titas,
This involves row level comparison of the report column data values we can achieve this in BI Publisher but at answers level there is no option.

  • IPhone 5s 7.1 update now have white AND black label text instead of all white text

Hello.  After I updated my iPhone 5s yesterday evening to 7.1 the label text on my iPhone's home row is now black instead of white and when I open my folders the text is now also black text instead of being an all uniform white text and this is bugging me is there a way to change it?  Please see photos below to demonstrate what I am talking about.  Thanks in advance.

Turning on Reduce Transparency in Settings results in gray backgrounds to the dock and folders and the black instead of white text.
You can turn off Reduce Transparency. The black text will turn white and the solid gray will become a little transparent taking on the color of the wallpaper.
Settings > General > Accessibility > Increase Contrast > Reduce Transparency (turn this off)

  • Just installed upgrade to CS5, now have both showing in Finder

I installed the upgrade and assumed it would remove the irrelevant parts of CS4 and upgrade the rest to CS5 - now my Applications Folder has a CS4 and CS5 version of everything. Should I just drag the CS4s to the trash? Was I supposed to have uninstalled before upgrading?
    Thanks,
    Cailin

????!!!??? A little late aren't you? This was completed in June.
However, for your benefit, this issue hinged on why adobe felt that it was necessary for purchasers of CS5 to keep both the full CS5 and CS4 programs installed on the PC's at the same time after the upgrade taking up disk space. Other software developers have made their new version backwards compatible rather than assuming that every user had unlimited space on their hard disks and needed to retain both versions. So CS5 is not a true upgrade but a fully functional stand alone version and the only programmed upgrade factor was that it needed to prove the existence of the earlier version to prove that the upgrade discount was justified. Not a technical issue....economic.
Also, the second issue was in respect of the method advised to uninstall. I have never before heard a recommendation to uninstall a complex program by drag and drop into a recycle bin. This would leave vast amounts of orphan files around the system as well as very many registry entries which have the potential to cause future system conflicts.
The question about uninstalling CS4 after having installed CS5 was an important one. I had asked the question becasue it was very likely that both versions would be using a number of common system files and the concern was that if CS4 was uninstalled the potential existed that the process would uninstall certain system files essential to the proper working of CS5.
As said, I resolved the issue in June which is why there have been no subsequent posts.

  • Using Postcard Template, how do I print with NO white border?

I am trying to use the 4 postcard template and cannot get the photo printed without a white border around the edge of the paper. I want to the photo to take up the entire card. What am I doing wrong? Obviously I am new to this so I would appreciate very simple instructions.

To test how close to the edge your printer prints, just make up a page in Pages with an all over grey box and print that.
Then adjust your postcard template to suit.
You have not said whether you are printing to A4 or US Letter.

suggests you can print to larger paper stock and possibly trim it back.

  • Photo icon has disappeared - how do I get it back?

I have just accidentally deleted the standard photos icon and have no idea how to get it back. Any advice please?

The Photos App can't be deleted. You may have moved it to another page or into a folder.
Try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout to bring it back.

  • Finder List View and White Border around photo image files (icon preview)

Hey everyone, just curious if anyone knows how to remove the stripes from list view in the finder window? I tried a method that worked for Leopard but no luck with Snow. And for photos, the icon previews have real thick white borders around them, can these be removed (or at least inverted)? They are so distracting when looking through hundreds of images...
    Thanks,
    Jason

I just found an app that will get rid of the white borders and preserve the original date in the photo's EXIF data. It is CocoThumbX and can be downloaded from http://www.stalkingwolf.net/software/cocothumbx/.

  • HT201335 Yes my AirPlay icon will disappear from my iPad and I can't find it, once I found it in my photos but now I can't find it at all

My Apple TV AirPlay icon disappears off my iPad and I don't know how to get it back. I have done all the suggestions on the site. Once I found it in my photos but now I don't know where to find it.

It should be in the Music app (iBooks is for written books) - when you have audiobooks on an iPad you will get an Audiobooks option under the More button at the bottom of the Music app.
Note that audiobooks are currently a one-time only download from the store (so they won't appear in the Purchased tab for re-downloading), so you may want to copy it to your computer's iTunes via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases so that you can take a backup copy of it - it should copy over to the Books part of your iTunes library (Audiobooks if using a Mac with Mavericks or Yosemite on it).

Now have to take photos of both sides and find receipt? Finding the receipt might take as long as .finding the cards. If I paid hard earned money for the card from a computer company why would that card not be in their data base waiting to be activated? I guess I am out $20 to Apple for not activating immediately! My account was hacked once so I won't put a credit card in and live with gift cards. Now I am getting hit for $20, two gift cards for ten each. I now question who and how people are making money?? Is my only solution, buy card, redeem code instantly, purchase item?

Unfortunately no - Photos use extensions and the vendor (adobe) will have to implement the extension to allow external edits in PS or PSE
For now you must export the photo, edit and then import - not great but a work arond
And you can continue to use iPhoto until Photos meets your needs - launch it in your applications folder - if you need assistance on this see Why won't my iPhotos open?

Well, think about it. This is a Lightroom forum. We are here to answer questions about Lightroom and how to solve problems in Lightroom. Your permissions issue is an operating system issue, not a Lightroom issue. I didn't mean to be sarcastic. But there are plenty of Internet resources that will answer that question.
I just went to Google and typed in "change disk permissions", and there are links for the Mac as well as for Windows listed. There's no sense in me rewriting instructions that are already available.

I have now lost my contacts icon on the iphone and cannot find it even after syncing to my computer.

It's a pre-installed app and therefore cannot be deleted so you may have inadvertently moved it onto a screen or into a folder, check the utilities folder as this is a common one for it to disappear into.  Check all screens and folders and do a search in Spotlight, it will tell you if the app it still on your iPhone but unfortunately not where it is. If you find it on one or your screens or in a folder, press the icon until it wiggles and then drag it back to where you want it.  Alternatively you can reset your home screen in Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout.

  • White Border Added to File Thumbnails (in Finder) after iPhoto Export??

I recently upgraded to Leopard and iLife '08.
I love having a white border on my photos, but since iPhoto doesn't have the ability to attach a border when exporting, I often add one using Photoshop.
--> First, I export photos to a folder on my desktop
--> Then, I run a batch processing Action in Photoshop to add the borders (via canvas size, if you care)
--> Finally, I add the resulting (bordered) photos to a separate iPhoto library, which I use exclusively to keep bordered versions of my "best of the best" photos.
My question is this. I just dragged a bunch of (non-bordered) photos out of iPhoto to the aforementioned folder on my desktop. When I did this, I noticed that each of the FINDER thumbnails (i.e. not the iPhoto thumbs) now has a white border around it. Opening the file reveals that this white border ONLY applies to the thumbnail (i.e. the actual files look identical to the photos in iPhoto).
    1) Why is this?
    2) I also noticed that the white border (again, in FINDER thumbs) wasn't applied to the 2 photos I previously edited in Photoshop (as opposed to all others, for which I used iPhoto). Why is this?
    Thanks...
    -Jason

    Jason
    1) Why is this?
This seems like a new feature introduced with the Finder in 10.5
    2) I also noticed that the white border (again, in FINDER thumbs) wasn't applied to the 2 photos I previously edited in Photoshop (as opposed to all others, for which I used iPhoto). Why is this?
I can confirm this. Again, a Finder issue. My guess is that it depends on which app creates the thumbnail.
Really, these are questions for Finder people, rather than iPhoto people.
