Photo Import Format

I cannot get iPhoto to accept a lot of .jpg formatted photos when I drag individual photos or a whole folder onto either the Events or iPhoto sections. A text window appears saying the pictures aren't in a recognized format. However, a few .jpg photos do get accepted.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Others have reported similar issues. The photos are not located within the iPhoto Library package are they? If they are that's why. iPhoto will not import any image file from inside the library package.
Now, if they are not inside the package, copy one to the desktop, open with Preview and use the Save As menu option to create a new jpg file. See if that file will import OK. If it does there is an Automator workflow application that I created that may batch process the photos so that iPhoto will accept them.
Go to Toad's Cellar and download +Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile+ . Unzip it and place on the Desktop. Take the one file you originally copied to the Desktop and drop on the workflow app. When it's finished its thing, see if iPhoto will accept it. If so then select and drag the photos in the folder(s) onto the workflow app. Once the conversion is complete drag those folders into iPhoto to import.
NOTE: be use to make a copy of the folders before applying the workflow. If it doesn't work for some reason you'll still have them to try something else. Just a precaution.

trying to make an ibook and have 800 photos, want format of 8 photos/page, but default is not that- "create" the initial book from iphoto "album" it loads less than 800 pics and then when i change layout i have blanks.
if i clear the book so that it is all blanks and then try to load in the pictures i have it loses the chronology of the pictures that i had established in the album.
is there a way to import photos into an ibook template and keep the original order of the photos without having to do them one at a time?
also, is there a way to insert a photo rather than just dragging it? i have tried the cut and paste funciton but it doesn't seem to work, the target site doesn't seem to register with iphoto.
    many thanks for your help.

Photos are added to book in chronological order.  So if you want to add them to a book in the order you have placed them manually in an album do the following:
1 - select all the photos in the album.
2 - use the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Date menu option as shown here. Select any date and add 1 minute between photos.
3 - select just one photo from the album and create a book from it.
4 - in the book click on the Options button ➙ Book Settings button and make sure the checkbox for Auto-layout pages is unchecked.
5 - drag the album with your book photos onto the book icon and they will be imported into the Photos tray of the book in your pre-determined order but not into the pages themselves.

  • Help with photo import quality in iMovie!

The resolution of the iPhoto (5.0.2) pics once dragged into iMovie (5.0.4) severly deteriorates on my iMovie project. The photos are 21 inches widecrystal clear JPEGS in iPhoto, Preview and Photoshop, except once dragged onto iMovie they look blurry and pixely. My digital camera is a Sony 7.2 (shot pixs at 5M)
Playing project footage on full screen in iMovie looks this way as well. So it is not just the import still shot on the clipboard that looks bad.
How do I fix this problem to get clear quality ?

Create your iMovie project in a high quality format (choose the highest one possible) and then the pics you import will be imported in a high quality. iMovie automatically adjusts the quality of your pics and movies based on the quality of the iMovie project you are creating.
I'm not sure what you mean by "a high quality format", hlokty. Are you referring to the iMovie Playback preference, which lets you pick one of three playback settings?
If so, note that preference does NOT affect the quality of the imported image. It has no affect on the quality of project clips like video, photos, or anything else. The preference only affects playback in iMovie itself. Low quality improves the playback smoothness. High quality improves the playback image.
If should be noted that iMovie NEVER shows us all the quality that's there, for either video or photos. That must be kept in mind when viewing photos imported to iMovie. It's important to not judge quality by what you see in iMovie. iMovie is a video editor, not a video player.
There are many Topics here discussing photo quality. To find them, search for words like "blurry" and "jaggies".

  • Kodak Photo CD format

I have hundreds of Kodak Photo CD's which I built up by having my negatives scanned onto this format from the 90's and early 2000. I'd love to get these images into Aperture in their original format and have Aperture treat them like RAW files. Aperture doesn't support this format at the moment so the only way to import them is to use Photoshop and the Kodak Photo CD plug-in and then save the files as TIFF images. Messy and time consuming. It would be much easier to just pop the CD into my Mac Pro and have Aperture import them just like any camera-card.
I have requested this through the feedback form http://www.apple.com/feedback/aperture.html If like me you also have a stack of old Kodak Photo CD's that you'd like to manage in Aperture then use the form to request it that Aperture recognises the format, the more people who do this will mean Apple will look at adding this format.
Just how many people out there have images on this format?
MacPro, 30" Cinema Display   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   MacBook

This is another "long way" but you might want to try to use the program Graphic Converter included free with most Macs to change the Kodak format to one that Aperture recognizes. It is a powerful program that recognizes and converts many photo file formats. It can also be run in Batch mode (may take a while), and you can save the converted files on your HD for import to Aperture. Maybe less hassle than the iPhoto way.

  • IMovie HD, iPhoto 08/09 - Photos import, render and then disappear.

    *Software Overview*
    • iMovie HD
    • iPhoto 08, and iPhoto 09
    • Mac OS 10.5.6 and Mac OS 10.5.7
    • Network Home Accounts from Mac OS Server 10.5.5
    *The Issue*
    • Dragging photos from the Media Browser into iMovie HD.
    • Each photo imports, renders and then automatically disappears from iMovie HD.
    • This occurs regardless of what user is logged in, on existing Movies, or New.
    • This occurs on a clean profile, with Photos imported from another Library via Sharing.
    • This only occurs on Networked Users, Local Users have no problems.
    • If the photo is dragged to the desktop first, and then into iMovie, it works successfully.
Has anyone run into this before?

I am delighted to read that I am not the only one who gets burned by Ken in iMovie HD 6. I have spent hours on this problem and came to the same conclusion, that this is due to a glitch in OSX Leopard. The origin, mode of import or file format of the still doesn't matter. Interestingly, I seem to be the only one with the KB being stretched vertically (i.e. my fat nephew Ralf looks pretty slim). There are additional problems with the rendition of video effects. Several of the Quartz Composer effects (e.g. bump distortion, circle splash distortion) render bright and washed out.
I also discovered that iMovie HD v.5 (five) in Leopard still renders the KB effect without a flaw. I am lucky to still have the old 5 version in the box. So I work in iM 6 (iMovie 7 is the biggest software insult Apple has ever launched against their loyal fans) and when I need to bring in a KB effect I save and reopen in iM v.5, do the KB and reopen in iM 6 with the KB effect still perfectly rendered and ready for additional editing (titles, transitions). By doing most of the still imports and KB's at one time, it is not that inconvenient or time consuming. It certainly beats altering the aspect ratio of each still. Try to get hour hands on a iM 5 version until Apple fixes the bug (hopefully soon), although my fat nephew Ralf prefers the stretch version. I checked Apple's downloads, they don't offer iM 5. Check for iLife 5 on eBay. Good luck!

  • Preferred import format for iphoto4

I've got some old photos that were original scanned directly into PhotoDeluxe. Want them in iPhoto now for obvious reasons. iPhoto Import produces a text message for each photo that amounts to "Can't import".
I can pass them through Photoshop and export them as almost any known format. But which one? I've tried TIFF, which I know to be lossless, and it apparently works well --the "before" and "after" photos look identical on the screen. But are others just as good?
What's the preferred import format for iPhoto4 to maintain photo quality? (Is the answer the same for later versions? I assume so.)
    Thanks,
    Henry

    Henry,
Had to do it myself with some old scans from PhotoDeluxe - run them through PhotoShop and save in another format. That text message means the PD file is propietary PD format - requires PD to use.
Your export choice from Photoshop depends on what you plan to use the photo for. iPhoto is by nature a JPEG creature, but will accept and protect files in other formats.
I open PD files in PhotoShop or PhotoShop Elements and Save As a full .psd file for safekeeping and as a .jpg I import into iPhoto. I don't have use for anything bigger or better than a .jpg in iPhoto. I don't edit or print with iPhoto.

  • Photos imported are blurry

    Hello!
When I import photos from an iPhoto library, they appear quite blurry (poor resolution) in the iMovie window. This happens in iMovie 3 and iMovie HD.
This also happens in applications with a similar importing format (i.e., with iPhoto library in the application window; e.g., Comic Life).
The imported photos are 1600 x 1200, and when viewed in iPhoto and other applications, are crystal clear.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!

  • IMovie Problems: Photo import and audio-video out of sync.

    Photo import problem:
Some times, I have problems importing photos onto my new project, the photos will appear to be that just one same photo when played. It does not transit to the other photos following the first, it's just stuck on the first. Is this just an issue with iMovie '11? Are there any other ways to resolve this problem?
    Audio-video out of sync:
I've checked some other discussions but I'd like to raise this issue again for APPLE. There are problems exporting my 7-minute film - the video and audio go completely out of sync no matter what format I export it to. There are not a lot of clips used. I'm now trying the method to detach the audio files from the video, hopefully it works.
These issues are bothering me, in addition to a failed firmware update on Mac OSX 10.7.2 a few weeks ago. I couldn't open my computer and I had to go to the Genius Bar to have them help me backup my files on my computer and reinstall the whole system again. Anyways, any help to the above iMovie issues are greatly appreciated. Just wish that Apple will address these current issues and not just focus on improving their products with awesome features ._.

  • Photos import but video will not

I was able to import video and photo prior to loading leopard. iphoto recognizes my photo import automatically but for some reason it doesn't auto load my video into imovie when I connect to the PC. Is there something you have to do in leopard to make it work..a patch? I have a JVC everio but it shouldn't matter since it was working prior to Leopard. Any assistance is appreciated.

If the ipad doesn't see the video then it may be in a format the ipad doesn't like. Your choice may be to import it to your computer, then drag it into iTunes, which will convert it to a format the iPad likes, then sync it that way.
If iTunes still won't convert it right, mpegstreamclip, Format Factory (pc ony) and Handbrake will all convert video to mp4 or m4v that the ipad likes

  • All Possible Import Formats for iMovie

I was wondering if there is a complete list of import formats. I want to edit a clip using iMovie, however, the program does not recognize the file format. What is/are the possible format(s) of movie files that can be imported into iMovie for editing? Thank you!

    Hi
No version of iMovie is a general video importing tool.
eg You can not directly import from DVD ( iM'08 had a work around a while I THINK )
(DVD needs mpeg-component to QuickTime Pro to be converted - or I use Roxio Toast™ to do this)
So what kind of material do You want to Import/Capture ?
    I use
video - miniDV tape Cameras - streamingDV - and via QuickTime Pro I can convert many formats to this as QuickTime .mov that then imports nicely into iMovie.
audio - ONLY .aiff 16-bit 48kHz (from Camera) and 44.1 from Audio-CD (NO .mp3 or anything else - all converted to .aiff) - THIS saves a lot of troubles
photo - .jpg (.bmp results in very red toned photos to me)
AIC - is also a supported video-format - especially if exported to FinalCut ! as it needs much less rendering than video from iMovie (directly).
.avi - containing Iv50 - IS NOT compatible but needs a Window PC and needs to be converted to .wmv first then to streamingDV in QT to work.
There are Video Converting programs to buy - I have non of them.
FinalCut is not so much better.
So please - be more specific - there are lot's of codecs out there
.avi, .mov, .wmv, .mp4 - ARE Containers and can contain any strange Codec. So one needs to find out what the true Codec is.

  • IPhone 6 photos import but can't be deleted.

Photos import from my iTunes backup on my computer to my iPhone 6 ok but the trashcan icon doesn't show so they can't be deleted. New photos taken on the iPhone 6 can be deleted as normal. I've tried sync from "All photos ...etc." and from "Selected albums, Events ..etc." Any suggestions?

Only photos taken by iPhone can be deleted normally, the ones synced via iTunes require a new photo sync.
Create a empty folder on your computer.
    Connect device to iTunes.
    Choose "sync photos".
Choose the empty folder you created.
    Start sync.
    Done.

  • LR 4 & 4.1 can't create new folder manually during photo import

    Windows 64, i7, 12GB RAM
I don't seem able to create a new folder manually on photo import.  This still works fine on the same PC with LR3.6.  Anyone else seeing this?  Thanks.

I've sometimes found the 'Make New Folder' option to be a bit hit and miss on Win7....so I generally avoid it. In your case, wouldn't it be easier to have Lightroom create the folder for you by setting up your Destination panel as follows:
Obviously the selected target parent folder in your case would be "Photos Working Folders", use "Organize: Into One Folder", tick the Into Subfolder box and enter the name of the sub-folder you want, e.g. raw0015. As you can see, if the sub-folder doesn't yet exist, Lightroom then shows you that it will be creating it for you.

  • I have a large number of photos imported into iPhoto with the dates wrong.  How can I adjust multiple photos (with varying dates) to the same, correct, date?

I have a large number of photos imported into iPhoto with the dates wrong.  How can I adjust multiple photos (with varying dates) to the same, correct, date?

If I understand you correctly, when you enter a date in the Adjust Date and Time window, the picture does not update with the date you enter.  If that is the case then something is wrong with iPhoto or your perhaps your library.
How large a date change are you putting in?  iPhoto currently has an issue with date changes beyond about 60 years at a time.  If the difference between the current date on the image and the date you are entering is beyond that range that may explain why this is not working.
If that is not the case:
Remove the following to the trash and restart the computer and try again:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.iphoto
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iPhoto (There may be more than one. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: to get to the "home > library" hold down option on the keyboard and click on "Go" > "Library" while in the Finder.
    Let me know the results.

  • Amount from 2 different columns. import format?

    Hi all,
Im trying to import amounts from 2 different columns. If accounts are "123" or "234" or...etc
    Then pull from column
    else use column 9
can this be done in one import script? I want to know if I can assign import format amount to column 5 but only get the accounts asked for. else use column 9.
    thanks

I made something like this, and assigned it to an amount column with all the amounts. Does it make sense?
    Function This_Code (strField, strRecord)
    Dim Account
    Dim Ammount
    'Field instead of strRecord
    account = DW.Utilities.fParseString(strField, 12, 5, ",")
    Amount = DW.Utilities.fParseString(strField, 12, 11, ",")
    If Account = "123" or Account = "456" Then
    Amount = This_Code
    End If

  • FDM Fixed-Width Import Format & Multiple Accounts/Periods Issue

    Hi FDM experts,
I have an issue that I wanted to reach out to you on regarding fixed-width import formats and how to cater for my current scenario for export to Hyperion Planning.
    I am working with a flat file (.txt) I need to import to FDM with the current format;
    A
    B
    C
    D
    E
    F
    G
    Z
    Year
    Channel
    Product
    Jan-MTD-Account 1
    Jan-MTD-Account 2
    Jan-YTD-Account1
    Jan-YTD-Account2
    Dec-YTD-Account2
    2013
    Channel_1
    Product_1
    1000
    2000
    1000
    2000
    10000
These are all fixed in width so the field lengths will need to be defined in the import format. The requirement for loading to the system is only a speciifc Month YTD value for both Account1 and Account 2.
    If my chosen Month is 2013 Jan, I will only require columns F and G to be loaded. These are the issues I have identified;
Can a fixed width import format cater for loading to multiple accounts in the same file? Or would I need a separate import format per account?
Can a fixed width import format cater for loading to a variable Actual Month period? Or do I need 12 import formats/locations per month?
    Your help is much appreciated!
    Many thanks
    Aaron

    Hi Aaron,
the solution you are looking for needs pivoting your source file.
Think that FDM, by default, only accepts files with one single column for amount. You have to pivot your file based on your logic and import the pivoted file.
    For example:
    Year     Channel     Product     ... Jan-YTD-Acc1     Jan-YTD-Acc2 ...
    2013     CH1          PR1               1000                    2000
If your POV is Jan-2013, your data imported will look like:
    Year     Channel     Produc     Account     Amount
    2013     CH1          PR1          ACC1          1000
    2013     CH1          PR1          ACC2          2000
All this process can be automated by playing with Import Scripts.
