Photo in 2 projects

I have placed photos in a project then created another project containing some photos from the first project... like a sub Project.
These photos have also been placed in an Album.
Refining my Projects I wish to remove some photos in the main project without removing them from the  second Project and Album.
To do so I must right click and get the dialog Versions based on the original will be removed as well.
The only thing I can figure is to take the images I want to remove from the first Project
     Export to desktop
Do the remove that takes away versions
Then import the image back to the second Project and the Album if they are no longer there.
I guess I need to hunt for the versions created from the original and move them to the desktop if I do not want them removed perminently.
Obvioously, theres a black hole in my complete understanding of working with a version or original apart from the other.
My mind contains many black hole at 80... this one I'd like to patch up
Thanks for any help.

Hi,
Where to start...  Your workflow is not optimal and is causing some of the problems, but I suspect you know that already.
Are you saying that the same image file has been imported into Aperture more than once, or that you've duplicated an image into another Project?
The Albums are a non-issue - any image pointer you remove from an Album will have no effect on the master or versions in the source Project.
As far as Projects go, let's suppose by whatever means that you've got the same image appearing in Aperture twice, and you want to remove one of them without deleting the image on the hard disk.  Here's how you do it:
Either drag the image to Aperture Trash or "Command-Delete"  The image is now in Aperture Trash
When you go to empty the Aperture Trash, it now prompts with an "Are you sure..." dialogue box - which has a check box "Move referenced files to system trash"  This box needs to be *unchecked*.
Now, when you click on the Delete button in that dialogue box, the image is deleted from Aperture, but remains in the hard disk.
Did you know that you don't need to export images to PS and reimport?  You just set PS as your external editor and when you want to do something that need PS, right-click on the image and select "Edit with Photoshop"
Also, the versions created from the original don't actually exist as independent images - they are simply a set of instructions that get applied to the original.  Think of the original as the negative - you want to keep it.  If you don't want to see the original but the final version after all the tweaking, stack the images (if not already in a stack) and set the preferred version as the Key Photo and Close Stack.
I realise this is probably a bit short on finer detail, but I'm about to go out for dinner!!!  Good luck...

  • How can I move a photo from one project to another

How can I move a photo from one project to another without creating a duplicate so I have the same photo in two projects.
I seems to me in the past when I moved the photo from project 1 to project 2, I would get a number showing the # of photos being moved and you could drag and drop in the 2nd folder and the photos would disappear from project 1 and show up in project 2. is there a setting I am missing.  Now when I drag and drop the photo no red # shows up and the photo stays in project 1 and also shows up in project 2 apparently creating a duplicate.
    Any suggestion?

Now when I drag and drop the photo no red # shows up and the photo stays in project 1 and also shows up in project 2 apparently creating a duplicate.
The projects are the basic containers.  Each image and all its versions are in exactly one project.
You can use an image in many albums, without duplicating it, also in many products like books, screensaver, slideshows.  But the projects are the basic structure of the library and you cannot have the same image in two different project, without duplicating it by storing the same original image files twice. Use albums to organize your library thematically.
Sorry, I misread your question.   Dragging an image file between projects should move the image and all its versions to the other project.  Aperture should only duplicate the image, if you hold down the alt/options key while dragging and move the image otherwise.
Which Aperture version are you using? And which MacOS X version?  Is your profile signature "MacBook Pro with Retina display, Mac OS 9.2.x, Aperture 3.5.1" still valid?
In Aperture 3.6 on MacOS X 10.10.1 dragging between projects is still working as expected:

  • How do I Add a new photo to a project (photobook)

I have created an album in iPhoto '08 and used that to create a photobook which I was just about to order. I placed all my photos and added the text with no problems. BUT I wanted to add a last minute photo to the project and my this is now a problem. I imported it to iPhoto and dragged it to the relevant album. However when I open up the project the new photo does not appear in the line of photos up the top. Surely I don't have to start from scratch??? Would appreciate your help.

Thank you so much. You are a champion. I had tried dragging it directly to the book and when that didn't work I dragged it to the project icon and hey presto - I am so Happy!!!!!

  • I am using Aperture to make a photo book.  I have about 400 photos in the project.  I am able to select the photos I want for 20 pages, then when I try to add a page, all the pictures are selected.  How do I add additional pages and still control the pix

I am using Aperture to make a photo book.  I have about 400 photos in the project that I am selecting from.  I want to use about 70 for the book.  I am allowed to pick and choose photos until I fill 20 pages.  Then when I select add page, I am allowed to select all the pictures in the project.  I am not allowed to select.  I think I hve to change a setting, bt what?  Thanks for the help.

David, have you enabled the "Autoflow" options? There are settings behind the cogwheel, that will automatically place unused images onto new pages. If you only want to select a few images from a large project, disable these two options:
Or start your book froman album, that only contains a selection of your images, rather than from the whole project.

  • Moving photos from one project to another

So, I'm painfully new to aperture but I was under the impression that if I drag and drop a group of photos from one project to another, it would MOVE the photos to the new project (as described here: http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual/index.html#chapter=5%26sec tion=14%26tasks=true). When I do this, the images remain in the original project and it does get added to the second project (in an album under the new project). When I try to delete them from the original project, it also deletes them from both the original project and the new album in the new project. When I "Undo" the delete, it restores the photos to both the original project and the album under the new project.
    Am I missing something?

The problem is you are dragging them into an Album not a project.
If you drag them into the project they will be moved. If you drag into an Album they remain in the original project as well as appearing the album. (in the album they are really pointers back to the originals in the project)

  • How to export all edited photos in a project

Once I finish editing photos in a project I often wish to export all of those photos, in their fnal edited form, to a folder which I then burn to a CD and give to someone.  I have been using File-Export-Versions thinking that this would do the trick.  However, it seems that this process exports the photo without all of my nifty editing.  I've looke at the manual, but must be too dense to find the answer.  Thanks for any help you can give.

What you are doing should work.
Here is a recipe -- try it and report back.
    Select the Project.
    Clear all filters.
Filter using the Rule "Adjustments" with the setting "are applied".
Add other Rules as desired (e.g.: Rating is 4★ or better).
    Select all Images.
"File→Export→Version", and choose an Export Preset that meets your needs.
Masters are the un-changed (and never changed by Aperture) original files that you imported.  Versions are Images that you have made by changing these in some way.  Exporting a Version should always include any Adjustments present in the Version.

  • Photos in a project have just disappeared!

Not sure if this problem was there before or after I installed Aperture 3.4.2 (about two hours ago) but in one of my projects a large number of photos have just disappeared.  The ratings remain but all you can see is a black space and the size of the files has been reduced from around 28 MB to just 100kb or so.
I have all the original photos this partcular project backed up elsewhere but without all the adjustments I made.
So far this has happened to only one project but I'm a little worried it might be some kind of virus.  Help!

Oh and by the way I don't have the filter set on the viewer (it says unrated or better).

PLEASE ADVISE AS HOW TO RETRIEVE OLD APERTURE LIBRARY WITH ALL MY PHOTOS, ALBUMS AND PROJECTS

Find the old Aperture library in the Finder and double click it to launch Aperture with that library set to the default.
And check your caps look key.  It appears to be stuck.

hi i am putting photos in my project it will play the videos but not the photos i have not had a problem with this before

If you haven't tried re syncing the apps using iTunes..
Connect the iPad to your computer. Select it under Devices left side of the iTunes window. Select Apps from the menu, make sure the boxes next to those apps are selected then click the Sync button bottom right side of the iTunes window.

  • Preset or change duration of still photos in iMovie project

    Hi,
I work with iMovie 11 and never had any problem with previous versions.
Now I'm doing my first project in iM 11 and it just ignores my requests
When I set the duration in 'Project Properties' 'Apply to all photos' to e.g. 4 sec it will set the duration anything from 5 to 7 sec and no matter how often I change it will not react. If I set it to 3 sec (as an example) it will allow 5 sec. but never what I would like the duration to be.
This is a really annoying issue, more so when there a lot of still photos in the project.
Is there any way to rectify this or what else can I do???

"problems setting duration for still photos and transitions in iMovie '11"
A number of people have experienced the same problem and written about it on discussions. Lots of difference solutions as well. If you search using the title quoted above, you can read the solution I found. It's more complicated than it should be. I've never had to fiddle as much with duration times for transitions and still photos. Nevertheless, the steps I have described work for me. You will also find the steps another reader offered that may work for you if all of your transitions are set for the same durations and all of the still photos are as well.

  • On iMovie 10.0.7 how can I change the duration of all of my photos in the project at once?

On iMovie 10.0.7 how can I change the duration of all of my photos in the project at once?

You can set the default duration of stills but you have to do it before you start the project.
iMovie is not really suitable for stop motion videos and iMovie 10 is worse than iMovie 9 because the minimum still duration is not really controllable as you have found.   I don't have experience of making such videos but there are 3rd party apps which appear more suited to this, for example http://www.macworld.com/article/1146623/stop_motion_Mac.html
mentions some of them, though its a bit old and you may be able to find more up to date information.

  • When I merge one project with another, Aperture for some strange reason, randomly scrambles the photos from the project being merged, instead of keeping them in the order they were shot. What can I do to fix this?

When I merge one project with another, Aperture 3 randomly scrambles the photos of the project being merged, instead of keeping them in the chronological order that I shot them in. What can I do to correct this?

The photos have just been dumped into a new home and need to be told how to be arranged.  Go to the top left of the browser view for the merged project and select the desired sort order from the drop-down and they'll all sort according to that setting.

  • Same photo in multiple projects?

Hi there. New Aperture user here so hope this isn't a stupid question. I was wondering if it's possible to have the same photo in multiple Projects? My understanding is that all photos are stored in my Aperture Library but the photos in the Projects are really just links to the photos in the Aperture Library. Is that correct?
I would like to have certain photos in multiple Projects, if possible. Thank you.
    -Keith

Thanks William. Here is a broader question/issue then.
Right now I have 20+ Projects in the AL. Then I have multiple .Mac Web Galleries based off of certain Projects.
Should I create one "Master" Project, and then create 20+ Albums under that Master Project? It seems like that is what I was going for when I created multiple Projects in the first place. Albums are just links to the photo in the Project, correct?
If I do that, will I have to re-do my .Mac Web Galleries (since they are linked to those Projects, right)?
Also, not quite sure I understand your last reply regarding copying the Album? Sorry.
