Photo in Organizer closes Photoshop Elements program whenever it worked on for tagging, editing, etc

Everytime I open a photo in my catalog (whether in organizer or editor) the program freezes and then closes. I am using Photoshop 11 and Windows 7. Help!

  • I don't want to import PHOTOS. I want to get only one into Lightroom for temporary work. How do I do this. (the photo is now in Photoshop Elements).

Don't want to import all photos from my camera or anywhere else. I only want to work on one image then put it back into Elements. Please tell me how to do this and I would appreciate a detailed answer. Please do not be vague.

Lightroom is not a file browser, It isn't anything like the organizer in Photoshop Elements. Lightroom uses a catalog, which is a database. That database keeps track of the location of images that have been imported, as well as all of the adjustments that you make to those images using Lightroom. The import process is a process of showing Lightroom where the images are located on your computer. You can't just open an image in Lightroom, make changes and then close it. Lightroom doesn't make changes to the original image. Your images are left in their pristine state. All the changes are stored in the catalog. And when it comes time to share an image that has been adjusted in Lightroom you need to export a copy that includes all of those changes. It's a different workflow, and one that you need to become accustomed to. I suggest that you watch a series of short tutorials that will help you understand more completely how Lightroom works.

  • I'm moving an internal hard drive from an old computer to a new computer.  How do I transfer the catalog data to my new computer so the Organizer of Photoshop Elements 6 will find the data on the hard that has been moved to the new computer?

I'm moving an internal hard drive from an old computer to a new computer.  (My new compute runs Windows 8.1) How do I transfer the catalog data to my new computer so the Organizer of Photoshop Elements 6 will find the data on the hard that has been moved to the new computer?  Is this possible or do I have to use the procedure of copying the catalog along with the photos to a back up hard drive and then restore them on the new computer?

The 'normal' procedure is to do a PSE organizer backup (not a copy or a backup from external tools) to an external drive, then a restore to the new location.
The advantage is that you have a backup of both catalog and media files and you don't have all disconnected files, which would happen with external backup tools. Also, if you restore with a more recent elements version, the catalog will be automatically updated to the new format.
The drawback in your situation is that you'll have either to overwrite all your files or restore to a custom location, creating a duplicate photo library (which supposes you have enough free space).
It would be possible to simply use the organizer in the old PC to move the catalog to a new 'custom' folder just under your C: root drive. The catalog would be accessible once the drive will be installed in the new PC. Then you would have all files 'disconnected' due to the fact that all your media files are now on a drive with a different letter. Reconnecting a whole library is a hard job with PSE6, less so with PSE11/PSE12.
If the idea of fiddling with the sqlite database with external sqlite manager tools is ok for you, I can describe the process more in detail. You only copy your catalog folder (as suggested above) to another location. Instead of trying the 'reconnection' way, you install the sqlite utility on the new computer. When the old drive is installed in the new computer, you simply edit a given record in the catalog database, catalog.psedb, and start the organizer with your copied catalog by simply double clicking the 'catalog.psedb' file.
Even if the last solution is much, much quicker, I would still create a new PSE backup : you have never too much safety .

  • Why does adobe photoshop elements 6.0 not show up for a download choice of putting my photos into my computer, I'm on windows7.  I'm sure it did when I first got my computer.  Could it be that I have lots of other photo software that may be interfering?

If you open the Organizer and go to Edit>Preferences>Camera or Card Reader, do you have Auto Launch Adobe Photo Downloader on Device Connect checked?
Try checking that if you don't.

  • How do we send photos by email in Photoshop Elements 13?

How do we send photos by email in Photoshop Elements 13?

    Hi Gordon,
It is not a good idea to post live email addresses in replies as this is a public forum and somebody might harvest the addresses for scamming.
For clarification, I will go through the preferences that you should have set up.
Go to Edit -> Preferences - Email
    Click on the New button
Give it a Profile Name like MyGmail, select Gmail from the drop down list of service providers and then click on OK
Enter your Email address - this is the account to send the photos from not who you are sending them to. The address should be in the format [email protected]
    Enter your name
Enter the password for the email account you gave in 4 above
Click on Validate - It should come back and say credentials validated successfully - if not check your settings.
Click on OK and close the preferences.
    Now try sending a photo.

How do I see a photo full screen in photoshop elements app?  From what I can tell, I can't see a photo full screen in iphoto. I need full screen!

A file with a .PSA extension is most probably a catalog file from an older version of Elements (up to PSE5). To be able to use it with a newer version (including PSE12), you'll have to convert the catalog to the new format. In the organizer, open the 'File' menu, select the catalog manager (shift Ctrl C) and click the convert button, browse to the .psa file. Your catalog will be converted to the new format.

  • The organizer of Photoshop Elements 8 - Problem of sequence of dates

    Bonjour,
I have a problem with the organizer of Photoshop Elements 8, especially with the sequence of the pictures in the catalog.
My understanding is that the sequence of the pictures depends of the Exifs dates.
Problem in my catalog: It takes generally the date taken, but sometimes the date digitized even if the date taken is available.  I have used Exifer to check the dates but also PhotoMe and Exif Manager.
Thanks in advance for a solution.

The problem with 2002-12-25_F1030011.jpg is that it contains an invalid date/time in the XMP:DateTimeOriginal field of its metadata:
    Date/Time Original: 2002:12:25 08:29:00
The XMP metadata specification requires that a time zone be specified, e.g.
    Date/Time Original: 2002:12:25 08:29:00+01:00
Evidently, when PSE doesn't find a valid XMP:DateTimeOriginal field, it then uses the EXIF:CreateDate field, "2008:04:10 14:59:08".
I believe that Microsoft Pro Photo Tools wrote the invalid value in XMP:DateTimeOriginal.   It's shown as the last software to have modified the XMP section:
    ---- XMP ----
    About                           : uuid:faf5bdd5-ba3d-11da-ad31-d33d75182f1b
    Date/Time Original              : 2002:12:25 08:29:00
    Date/Time Modified              : 2002:12:25 08:29:00
Software                        : Microsoft Pro Photo Tools
Software                        : Microsoft Pro Photo Tools
Creator Tool                    : Microsoft Pro Photo Tools
Creatortool                     : Microsoft Pro Photo Tools
I verified that my Pro Photo Tools incorrectly writes dates/times without a time zone.
You could fix this with the free Exiftool by doing:
    exiftool -xmp:datetimeoriginal= 2002-12-25_F1030011.jpg
This deletes the XMP:DateTimeOriginal field, causing PSE to use the EXIF:DateTimeOriginal field, which is also present in the file.   You could run exiftool on all your photos that might be affected via:
    exiftool -xmp:datetimeoriginal= -r c:\users\you\pictures
Then select the corresponding thumbnails in the Organizer and do Edit > Update Thumbnail to cause PSE to re-read the metadata.  Note that Exiftool will make copies before modifying files, adding _original to the name of the copies.

  • How can I edit photos in iPhoto in Photoshop Elements?  I select PE in iPhoto preferences but they stay in iPhoto for editing.

How can I edit photos in iPhoto in Photoshop Elements?  I select PE in iPhoto preferences but they stay in iPhoto for editing.

Here's something you can try with a copy of your current library.
1 - go to iPhoto's Events preference pane and set the auto split option to 1 day per even.
2 - go the the Events mode, select all Events.
3 - go to the Events menu  and and select Autosplit Selected Events.
which will give you an event for each day.
4 - again select all events (although it might be better do to fewer at a time) and export them to your desired destination via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export  menu option with the following settings:
The workflow above will produce a folder for each days photos with the date as the folder's title.

Thanks for the information and your help. I have never bothered before changing the format. Next time I will.
I copied the library to the external drive and then it went and said they were referenced files but I was okay about that. Now it cannot see them and will not do anything with them. I think I will buy another external drive and start again by importing all of my files again. I guess 55K will keep the mac busy this week.
