Photo info

Aloha,
I maintain an online photo album of pictures from hikes that my friends & I go on. Last weekend, a friend gave me some pictures that he took with his new iPhone 3Gs. When I put them into my software (Jalbum.net), all of the technical information came out in the caption of the picture! I tested this by having another friend send me a picture from her iPhone 3Gs and the same thing happened. This doesn't happen with any other camera including my own iPhone 3G. You can have a look here:
http://thad.com/pix/hikes/KVR/Chris/
I think I can go in and manually remove all that information, but I am looking for a permanent solution to this. Is there something different with the way iPhones 3Gs tag pictures?
Thanks in advance,
Thad

Hi, there ..
Very interesting: You seem to have gotten diagnostic data I've not seen. I suspect there is some diagnostic mode set into your friend's iPhone. I posted an iPhone shot to my Pbase site to see what happened and you can see the results here
http://www.pbase.com/phil_wheeler/image/115245046
There have been discussions here about how to get certain diagnostic information (e.g., indication of signal strength in dBm vs. the strength icon) but no mention of anything as extensive as you've displayed.
I wonder what would happen if you posted my image above to your photo-hosting site?

  • Print Module: Auto-Rotate to fit and Photo Info Text

When in the print module with "Auto-Rotate to fit" selected, A landscape images correctly rotates to fit the page, but the text that is selected in the "Photo Info" setting does not rotate. Thus, the text appears along the left side of the image .
Any suggestions to get it to appear correctly on the bottom?
Also, Font size is selectable but not font type.

  • Print Module - Page Panel: Page options & Photo Info lost

In the print module there are only 4 features left now in my final release version of LR3:
    1. Page Background colour
    2. Identity Plate
    3. Watermarking
    4. Cut Guides.
Victoria Bampton described also the features with a screenshot of LR3b2 in her "Missing FAQ-Rough Cut" (page 366):
    4. cut guides did not exist, but instead Page options with tick boxes, then 5. Photo Info drop down box, then 6. Font Size.
    What has happened?
How do I cover the following use case: Create an invitation with photos and own free text about date/time/venue?
Please don't answer "export a jpg from Lightroom and then use MS Word or some other editor".
From the beta phase I got the impression that creating such a pdf should be possible directly from Lightroom.

How do I cover the following use case: Create an invitation with photos and own free text about date/time/venue?
Lightroom's text layout features might not be as powerful as you might thought. You're option are:
Use a custom Identity plate to add some static text or graphic anywhere on the page.
Use watermarking to add some static text or graphic anywhere on the photo.
Use Photo Info to add some metadata, such as IPTC location or capture time, somewhere around your photo.

  • How to print Photo Info in the Custom Print Package

I am  using LR CC, latest version on a Windows7 PC.
I am trying to print Photo Info in the Custom Print package. I have no trouble selecting Photo Info in the Single Image/Contact Sheet Layout Style, but when I switch to the Custom Print Package, the Photo Info check box in the Page panel, disappears. I can't find any reference to this in the manual as to why this would occur, or not be available.
Appreciate any help with this matter.
    Best Regards
    Steve

    Hi,
Have a look at: Lightroom Help | Print module layouts and templates
Only on the Single Image and Contact Sheet layouts can you " ... print information about photos, such as the filename, title, caption, and keywords ..."

  • How can I put current date and time in Photo Info (Print module)?

I often use the Photo Info option in the Print Module to caption my proofs with File Number plus the date and time the print is made.  This allows me to match up the print to the History state for the image, so I know which print version I'm looking at.  I've always wanted to get Lightroom to automatically enter the date and time the print is made.  It obviously knows this info, since it stamps the History state with date and time.  Currently I have to modify my caption manually with Custom text each time I make a print.  This is a major PITA.  Has anyone figured out how to get Lightroom to do this?

There is a Date/Time title in the titles browser, does just what it says...

  • Hi - for any photo, info in mountain lion shows a different file size than Photoshop does. I've tested with CS3 and CS6 and get the same problem. Doesn't happen with CS3 and OSX10.4 or any previous versions of Photoshop and OSX. Anyone know why?

Hi - for any photo, info in mountain lion shows a different file size than Photoshop does. I've tested with both CS3 and CS6 on 10.8.2 and get the same problem. This doesn't happen with CS3 and OSX10.4 or any previous versions of Photoshop and OSX. Anyone know why?

this one is actually a really rare symptom of a flaky connection to the ipod on a Windows PC. there's more going on in terms of hardware on nanos and 5th gens than in the earlier models ... so if the connection is flaky to precisely the right/wrong degree, itunes will see the ipod, but misidentify it as an earlier version of ipod.
tracking down the cause of the flakiness can be tricky ... as you already know ...
just checking. have you tried connecting with a different (known-good) USB cable? does that seem to have any impact on the rate of occurence of the problem?

  • "Extended Photo Info" lost/invisible after migration to new Mac with 10.6.2

I just migrated my iPhoto library to my new Mac running OSX 10.6.2 from a Mac running OSX 10.3 I did this by copying the "Pictures/iPhoto Library" folder to an external drive. Today I tried to use "Show Extended Photo Info", and information appears to be lost? There is no Camera or Exposure information. I re-imported a photo from an old e-mail, and it does have the information! Do the Event/Location/Face features cause this to be deleted from my photos? I used these feature a lot before noticing anything was wrong.
Any ideas? Can I somehow check to see if the JPEG file still has the information? It is not too late to re-do the library import. I cannot live without the exposure information, as I like to play with my camera settings.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. After copying the library to the external HD did you open it directly with iPhoto? When iPhoto 09 converted that library to the latest version it would not have done anything to lose the EXIF data which is stored in the library's database files.
You didn't import that library into a new library did you? If you didn't then try rebuilding the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • GPS Altitude Not in Extended Photo Info or EXIF Dat ahwne exported

    Hi,
I have my own website that uses a Goggle Maps plugin to read and show GPS info for photos I upload. When I use Places to capture that info the Altitude info is not stored either in iPhoto's database or in the EXIF info for the photo when exported. Is there anyway get this info stored in the database and phot when exported?
The Google Maps plugin on my site makes use of the Altitude details to show a more close up image depending on the altitude chosen. Without this info the site just shows a extremely high level world map with a pin showing in the country where the picture was taken. Not particularly useful. So I have to go and edit each file on my website and manually add this info. Which is very time consuming.

    Jennec
iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
There is no provision in iPhoto to add altitude at this time - iPhoto should maintain the EXIF data that is imported - if it is not then I certainly would report that as a bug
When I show extended photo info in iPhoto for photos it shows the altitude - I presume it exports - will test later

  • Lightroom + Microsoft Photo Info (and MS Photo Gallery?)

Just a little note/warning about what I found when doing some testing with the Microsoft Photo Info tool for adding metadata to images. Note that I believe the Photo Gallery or whatever it is called in Vista behaves the same way, but I'm not sure. Possibly also other 3rd party tools using the new Windows Imaging Component from Microsoft. Anyway...
What's special about this tool from MS is that it writes XMP data directly into a raw file. I added some metadata and then loaded the file into Lightroom. I was a little surprised to see that LR checked for existence of XMP data inside a raw file, but it's nice of it to do so. But, when I altered the metadata in LR and wrote it back to disk, it was written to a sidecar-file. Just as expected by LR and also just as it should be. Next step was to open the file again in Photo Info, and, not really surprising, it only read the metadata inside the file. So, the result was two different XMP blocks - one inside the raw file and one as a sidecar.
For most people this is not an issue, especially if this is only true for Photo Info which is not that much used, but if the same goes for the photo gallery in Vista, then it might be a bigger problem, since this will be used by more people.
I'd say that this is more of a Microsoft problem than a Adobbe problem, since the standard for now is to not touch raw files, but a couple of questions springs to mind. What if Adobe later agrees with MS that XMP could be written to raw files? Which XMP block should it read if an image already have two? And I would not be surprised if new raw formats will have XMP included already from the camera. If they do, a sidecar file may not be a good idea, since each image will then have two XMP blocks that may conflict.

I have the same problem with LR5 on OSX.
    Any solution?

  • Font for photo info does not work on this MAC

We are running a new MAC (OS 10.6.2, 2.66 GHz Quad) with Lightroom 2.6.  When I try to add photo data to a contact print, I see a series of boxes with AAAs.  I got the same result with the Identy Plate when I changed the font.  I changed to another font and it was fine.  This leads me to believe the default font for photo info is not supported on this machine.  We really need to use the photo info feature.  Is there a way to either
    1.  Change the font to one that is supported on this machine
    2.  Add the default font to this machine

Considering the hundreds of thousands of Windows apps available, I doubt you're going to find such a list.
Is there a comprehensive list posted somewhere that show which PC software has compatibity issues?
Well since Windows software does not run on Mac OS, every application is going to have compatibility issues.
You'll either have to buy the Mac version (if available) of the software you want to use, or install Windows on the Mac.

  • Can't find photo info option for print custom package

Am I being very stupid as the "photo info" option in "Page" appears for any of my user templates, but not when I create a new custom package. Just ends at "cut guidlines". I'm trying to print 2 landscape and 1 portrait on the same sheet with their captions.
    Thanks for any advice
    Mike

It is available in single image/contact sheet.
That means single image /different images
But indeed NOT in Custom Package

from some reason (i'm not sure why..) my whole iphoto library got deleted. I restored the whole library from my backup. Now all the photos are blank but steel have the photo info. (date, res., size etc.) Do you know what's the prob.? why can't i see my pics.

It's says that file does not exist. How come? And why does it still show the image info.?
Where can i find those files (i have a daily backup)
The original image files are missing form your iPhoto library or iPhoto cannot find them, because the link to the originals has been broken. The image info is stored in the internal libraries, independent of the original files. That is, why you are still seeing them.
I restored the whole library from my backup.
Try restoring from an older backup, from before you first noticed the problem.
How large is the library, that you restored? Is the file size large enough to hold all your photos, or has the size been reduced?  If the library is still large, the photos may still be inside, even if iPhoto cannot find them.
It's says that file does not exist. How come?
What happened, before your iPhoto library got deleted? Which applications have you been running, or which new software have installed or upgraded?  Have you moved the library to a different disk or tried to use it from different user account or access it over the network?

  • The RAW files I just downloaded on new MacBook Pro are designated as JPEG in the photo info box. Why??

The RAW files I just downloaded on new MacBook Pro are designated as JPEG in the photo info box. Why??

How did you download? Have you been using the Import panel?
How is the pop-up selector for the "Raw+Jpeg" set?
If you are importing raw+jpeg pairs, and you set this to (Use Jpeg as original), then you will see a little J on the thumbnail, otherwise a R.
Or did ou import with Jpeg only?

  • IPhoto 08 has more Photo Info than Aperture 2.1

When I examine the information in the Metadata Inspector of Aperture 2.1, it is missing information found in iPhoto 08: Exposure. iPhoto tells me that my picture was taken with Aperture priority in the Exposure section of the Photo Info window. Aperture tells me that the Exposure Mode was 0 and that Exposure bias was 0ev. In this case, iPhoto tells me more information about my pictures than Aperture. Can someone please explain why? My camera is a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT.

I have tested the Exposure Program metadata with my Canon Rebel XT camera and this is what I have found out.
_Exposure Mode on Camera : Exposure Program Number in Aperture 2.1_
    A-DEP : 0 - not defined
    M - Manual : 1
    Av - Aperture priority : 3
    Tv - Shutter priority : 4
    P - Program : 2
    Auto : 2
    Portrait : 7
    Landscape : 8
    Macro : 0 - not defined
    Sports : 6
    Night : 0 - not defined
    No Flash : 0 - not defined
There are 3 modes that are not defined by Aperture. You can see the mode the picture was shot by reviewing the pictures on the camera, but it doesn't fully transfer to Aperture 2.1. Does anyone have an explanation for this.

  • Photo info box?

I'm using iPhoto. What do the two size listings (Mb) mean in the (i) - photo info box mean?

On my iPad in the iPhoto app I see MP (megapixels) for the photo's dimensions (width and height in pixels), and a value for the photo's size in MB (megabytes) for the amount of storage that it's taking up - is that what you mean ?
