Photo Journals in iCloud

I really liked the iOS iPhoto app with the Journal feature that can be published in iCloud. However it seems un-finished. There seems to be no access controls for security if one knows the url, they are in. Also, there isn't any way to manage or see them when you loggin into iCloud.
It's a good app and different from the MobileMe gallery, but it's missing some security and features right now.

It would be nice if we could create these journals with handwritten notes (within app) along with text and voice and video.  I've had some trouble trying to arrange the pictures in the iPhoto app.
I use Aperture on the Mac so I'm hoping we see some features come to the desktop. I've not liked Photostream and had to turn it off on the phone because of battery life issues. The old Mobile Me Gallery app was decent for photo and video. For now I can sync a project from Aperture to the iPad, then use iPhoto on iPad to create a journal.
The journal feature has a lot of potential and could almost be it's own app. I hope they develop it further along with access to it from iCloud.

  • Lost photos in the iPhoto journals of iCloud

I uploaded a journals to icloud a year ago.
I don't know why when I open the share link now, all the photos can't be displayed on the web page, only remain my text.
    Is it iCloud's server problem?
How can I get back? becoz i have delete the journal in iPhoto of my iPad.

  • Has adding video to a photo journal been disabled?

I have been using iPhoto Journals on my iPhone 4s since iPhoto was released.  Everything on my iPhone is updated (iPhoto and iOS).  I was previously able to publish journals to iCloud that had a video in them but now this seems to be disabled.  I can still add the video to my journal on my phone and have it play within the journal there but when I publish to iCloud the journal video doesn't work.  It treats the video like an image.  The same is true for the folder of files exported to iTunes - the vidoe is there but when the journal is viewed in a browser the video doesn't work.
The quirky thing is I tried re-exporting a previous journal to itunes that had a video in it and had previously played properly in iCloud and when the files were loaded into a web browser, however the new export of the exact same unchanged journal doesn't work in iCloud or when the exported itunes folder is loaded in a web browser (tried Safari, Firefox, and Chrome).  The video file is still there but something is being changed and the video no longer gets linked, just an image from the video.
What's going on here?  Is this a bug?  Is there anyway to downgrade the iPhoto app on my phone so that I can get the video functionality back?
    Chris
P.S.  I have read other threads on this issue and have tried the suggestion to delete the documents & Data for iphoto in my iCloud account and this did not work.

    Hi Jim,
I had the video under the picture frame, but parts of the video are still visible, ( in Photoshop I would simply mask out the area outside the frame, and that's it, it's done, but it seems in Premiere there is no such thing as this type of masking (perhaps ? )
    Hi Steven,
I don't understand what you wrote, if I crop either the picture frame or the video, it won't look right. However, if I tweek the video just a tad, it would fit pefectly, however, when I do this to the video, just a portion of it sticks out from the picture frame in one area ( in Photos hop a simple mask would hide this )

  • Cant find my iOS iPhoto journal in iCloud

When I go to iCloud on my MBP I only find options for Mail, contacts, calendar, find my iphone and iWork. How do I get to the rest of my iCloud content?
I want to share my journal among other things.

You can only create a Photo Journal in the iOS version of iPhoto on your iPhone or iPad:

    http://help.apple.com/iphoto/iphone/1.0/#blnk26d8ed3e  (iPhone)
Could you please amend your signature as I assume you can't have 10.6.7 - having the wrong system can cause confusion when people try to answer your questions.

  • Photos app do not back up my Photos library into iCloud

I have just updated to OS x 10.10.3.
When I tried to enter the Photo app, I got the message ״There is not enough disk space to migrate your library. It is estimated that you need at least 33GB of additional free space.״
I have a 256 GB SSD hard drive, Mostly occupied by images and videos that where in iPhoto app.
By your recommendation  I made the following steps:
Get another drive and move the Library there:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
After doing that, I noticed that the Photos app created a new "Photos library" in my external HD.
I deleted the old "iPhoto library" on my internal HD and copied the new "Photos library" from my external HD into my internal HD.
I defined the new "Photos library" on my internal HD as the "System Photos library".
Now I can view and edit my photos on my internal HD, but it doesn't back up my "Photos library" into iCloud (I did all needed in Mac System Preferences/iCloud and in Photos app/Preferences/iCloud).
What can I do in order to back up my "Photos library" into iCloud?
    Thanks,
    Arik

Update - it started uploading "items" to iCloud.

  • Are Photo Journals Just Not Working These Days?

Okay, back when iPhoto for IOS was released I created a number of Photo Journals. Yesterday I created a new one and tried to store it out on iCloud. Well the journal itself seems to create okay and I can look at it, but for the life of me I can't get it to place the journal out on the journal homepage. In fact, when I delete an old journal the homepage doesn't get updated either, though the journal is deleted. What is going on? Is Apple dropping support of Photo Journals in favor of Shared Photo Streams, figuring why would you pay for storage when you can use the Photo Streams free? I'm just trying to figure out if I should invest anymore time and effort in the Journals. I like using the journals because you did get that nice home page. But if it doesn't get updated it's worthless. I can create my own index page to my Shared Photo Streams.

Hello Christi and thanks for posting on the forums....
Sounds like it is the phone.  I would sync the phone and save the data.  Then, try doing a soft reset on the phone.  If this does not help, you could do a hard reset as well.  However, the hard reset will erase your data and any 3rd party applications installed.  The hard reset does take the device back to Factory Settings.
Below is a link to the KB article for resets if you need assistance with the them.

  • How to share the Photos library on iCloud Drive with other family members?

I have uploaded our family photo-library to iCloud drive (136GB+). It works great!
But how can my wife (with her own iCloud-account, but within the family) see and use our library?

Tnx for the reply, though I already feared this was the answer.
Family sharing works well for keeping contact lists separated and we do not need to see all the crap the other half shoots with their iPhone.
But as family-members, we DO want to use our communal photo-library.
It would be great if you could share your entire library with family-members or at least select which albums to share with who.
Also it is silly that you can share a photo only to one other iCloud-album. If I shoot a nice pic of the kids I would want to share it with my wife AND with others.
The same would work for contacts. The family-head should be able to assign which contacts are shared and which are separate.
I hope Apple will update the family-possibilities so that this is fixed.

  • How do I remove photos uploaded to iCloud from my iPhone 6 ?

So I'm wondering how I can keep photos I have uploaded to my iCloud account off my iPhone 6 Plus to free up some disk space. After all, one of the benefits of having cloud storage is to store files remotely so you have more space on your hard drive. But, every time I try to delete a photo from my phone it says that "This photo will be deleted from iCloud Photo Library on all your devices."
Which, it seems to me, is kind of beside the point.
    Any ideas, anyone?
I'm running iOS 8.1.2 on an iPhone 6 Plus.

Unfortunately iCloud does not work like  and wasn't meant to. This may change moving forward.
iCloud Photo Library is still in beta and the way it functions may also change.
Currently it does not keep a full resolution version on the device, so your 20GB of photos will not take up 20GB on your device.
How does iCloud Photo Library save space on my device?
If you turn on Optimize [device] Storage, iCloud Photo Library will automatically manage the size of your library on your iOS device, so you can make the most of your device's storage and access more photos than ever. iCloud Photo Library stores the original, high-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and can keep lightweight, device-optimized versions on each of your devices. As long as you have enough storage, recent photos and videos that you access the most will stay on your device at full resolution.
You can turn on Optimize [device] Storage from Settings > iCloud > Photos or Settings > Photos & Camera > iCloud Photo Library on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. You need an Internet connection to access an original photo or video that’s stored only in iCloud.
iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ - Apple Support
It defeats your purpose but not everyone's in general. For instance, I too have the 20GB plan and I use mine mostly for my iCloud backups (iPhone & iPad) and the contents of my iCloud Drive.
A service like Dropbox may better suit your needs. It can be configured to automatically upload your photos. Since iCloud storage plans are now based on a monthly commitment, you can just simply cancel before the next auto renew.

How do I delete photos in the icloud and have them stay gone!

The only way you can do that is to import them into your library first, but you may have done that already.
The easiest way to tell is to select a photo from the photostream album in iPhoto and ctrl-click on it, if it gives you the option to import it isn't in your iPhoto library, if it offers you the option to show in library it has already been imorted.

  • How do I delete music and photos from my iCloud account? I've read below that you can't. Really? Is that correct?

How do I delete music and photos from my iCloud account? I've read that you can't. Really? Is that true?

You can delete photo stream photos from iCloud by just deleting them on your iPod.  My photo stream photos are automatically deleted from iCloud after 30 days anyway.  Just so you are aware, deleting photo stream photos doesn't free up any space in your account as they don't use your personal iCloud account storage.
You can't delete music from iCloud because the music isn't stored in your account; it's stored in the iTunes store.  What you are seeing are links to your previously purchased music in the iTuens store, allowing you to redownload them if you want to.  You can't remove anything from your list of previous purchases.  If you don't want to see these "iTunes in the Cloud" purchases in your song list, go to Settings>iTunes & App Store and turn off Music under Show All.  LIke photo stream photos, this music doesn't use any of your personal iCloud account storage.

  • How do i transfer photos from my icloud to  my PC?

How do i transfer photos from my icloud to my PC?

    Hello there, emz14.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great information in regard to getting photos from iCloud to your PC:
    iCloud: My Photo Stream FAQ
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4486
    Particularly:
How many photos are stored in My Photo Stream on my devices and computers?
iCloud pushes all your photos to the My Photo Stream album on your devices and computers, and manages them efficiently, so you don’t run out of storage space.
Your iOS devices keep a rolling collection of your last 1000 photos in the My Photo Stream album. From there, you can browse your recent photos or move the ones you like to your Camera Roll or another album to keep them on your device forever.
Because your Mac and PC have more storage than your iOS devices, you can choose to have all of your My Photo Stream photos automatically downloaded. In iPhoto or Aperture preferences on your Mac, select Photos (or Photo Stream) > My Photo Stream > Automatic Import. All of your photo stream photos will be imported into your Events, Projects, Photos, Faces, and Places folders in iPhoto or Aperture. On your PC with My Photo Stream enabled in the Control Panel, all of your photos will be imported into C:\\Users\<user name>\Pictures\iCloud Photos\My Photo Stream. For iCloud Control Panel 2.1 to 2.1.3 users, the path isC:\\Users\<user name>\Pictures\Photo Stream\My Photo Stream.
If you are working on a Windows computer and need to download the iCloud Control Panel, here is a link for you:

  • HT1349 The photo option in ICloud on my computer will not activate (it is grayed out as an option). Any assistance in getting my photos from my incloud on my iphone and ipad to my computer

The photo option in ICloud on my computer will not activate (it is grayed out) after I load the Icloud download. My Ipad and iphone are sharing my photo  stream photos but cannot get to my computer. I read all the instructions and reloaded Cloud 2 x but again will not activate the photo sharing piece.

I don't have a Recently Added playlist.  However, I discovered that the file I had named Eating Healthy was given the name You Can Enjoy Eating Healthy when it copied to iTunes.  I'm guessing iTunes pulled the full name of the piece from the internet.  Upshot--the mp3 did transfer to iTunes on all 3 tries, but I was looking in my alphabetized list under E, not Y, so I didn't see it there.  Thanks for your help.
