Photo layers in DW CS 4?

Have not used DW in many years. I want a simple page with small 80x80 thumbnails
on the left column, and a right section of photos layered. The thumbs will link to
the larger version on right side and make that photo appear when clicked. I think
DW4 does layers like this but I can't find info. ( 8 thumbs, 80x80, 8 larger 400x400)
thanks for any help.

Your subject line says CS4, but your post says DW4.  Can I safely assume that it's the former?
The best way to do something like this is to use the SetText behavior to dynamically modify the HTML content of a container on the page in response to a click on each thumbnail.  This modification would rewrite the image tag within that container so that it corresponds to the thumbnail clicked.  That way, you don't encumber the page with the weight of all of the enlarged images before they are actually needed.
I believe that this thread will suffice to explain everything you need to know -

(and there would be no need to use any positioning of any sort to achieve your final result)

In Photoshop Elements 11 attempting to blend two photos (layering one on another) I click on brush and get a smart brush which doesn't do what the instructions say it will do. I can get the eraser to do what I want. Why the confusion???

I click on brush and get a smart brush which doesn't do what the instructions say it will do.
The Brush tool (Keyboard B) has several different brushes in the same slot. Right click on the brush icon and you will see them, or press B sequentially.
The Smart Brush tool (Keyboard F) has two items in the slot.
Since you did not provide reference to "the instructions", it is difficult to remedy the "confusion." that exists.
I suspect that the recipe calls for a mask, and painting with a black brush to mask out certain areas.
It would help if you post the instructions and what your goal is with more specificity.

You would need an image editor to edit the images and add a border to the image first before importing them into Final Cut.

  • Adding photo layers

Hi everybody... I'm trying to add a second and third photo layer, but the app only seems to include one photo layer. Every time I add a new layer, it defaults to 'draw layer'. How to I add more photo layers, or change draw layers to photos?

The Ideas app currently only supports one photo layer, so only one photo can be added to an Ideas drawing.
    Hope that helps,

  • Putting photo layers on top of one another

In Elements 4 can you put multiple layers of photos on top of one another and how?

    Eden,
    1. This program depends on utilization of layers to achieve the best result
    2. Open image 1 - the one that you want to add something into
    3. Open image 2 - the one that you want to select something from, to add to image 1
    4. Use one of the selection tools, for example the magnetic lasso tool, to select that which you want to copy from image 2. When you do this, you will see "marching ants" around the selection. Go to Edit>copy.
    5. Bring up image 1, go to Edit>paste. You should now see image 1 as the bottom layer, and the selected portion of image 2 above this. Surrounding the selection is a checker-board pattern which represents transparency, allowing you visibility.
    6. In order to position the pasted portion, use the move tool.
Try this and let us know how you make out. Don't try for perfection initially, just attempt to follow this drill until you get the hang of it.
Forget about the healing brush for now. This tool is used for another purpose.

  • Photo Layers won't open in element 12, from Lightroom 5

I have tried exporting photos into elements as layers (From Lightroom) , once elements opens, nothing is showing. Curious if I am doing something wrong. If I just open the photos in elements and put them as layeres  manually, it works fine. I was just under the assumption I could do it from light room as well.(the option is given hence the assumption) just as a sidenote I did change output from 16-8 bit in preferences, that didn't fix anything, just read that on another site

Ok, what is your operating system and the exact Lightroom version...
Also what does it show in Preferences under External Editing:

  • XML photo Layering

Does anyone know how to layer photos imported via an external
source (XML) with other art elements?
The imported XML photos always seem to arrive on top of
anything else no matter what layer your XML code keyframe is
    on.

You could create an empty movieclip on stage that will hold
the pics, then when you add the pics, add them as children of that
    empty movieclip.
So, create an empty movieclip on stage at the right layering
and call the movieclip: picHolder or something.
Then, in your code above, change addChild(thisBmp) to:
    picHolder.addChild(thisBmp);

  • ...animated photo layers...

...is there a program that does this automatically? We see this effect quite commonly...a photo that seems to be layered and the layers seem to move around. i know how to do it in Photoshop then animate it in Motion but is there software that somehow does this? sounds like I'm lazy but I have over 300 images of football action that needs to be put to DVD and would love to put this effect in there but it is an enormous task so I will not propose the technique unless I have ample time to do it or there is a software that helps this process along. thanks troops. Ciao

Brian - I've found in slide shows such as these, less really is more.
If you were to do the effect on all 300, it would soon grow tiresome. Choose the ones that would be most effective. Do the standard pan and zoom for the rest.
Also, you can get a 3Dish effect using the lowly Relief filter. When you first apply the effect, it looks crazy, but if you place the two centers very close to each other and slowly animate one of the centers a very small amount, you can get a depth effect with very little effort. Also, sometimes choosing the channel can help - I used it once on a shot with blue confetti and used the blue channel as my height map and the confetti seemed to move against the background.
Finally, while Photoshop has the tools to cut out and paint, often you can just separate the the layers inside Motion (using masks) and enlarge the foreground objects to cover over their copies in the background. That way you can do everything inside Motion quicker than with Photoshop.

  • Photoshop Elements 7 difficulty with photo layers

I'm beyond frustrated and hoping that I can explain this clearly. I just purchased/upgraded Photoshop Elements 7. I am using an HP. Everytime that I drag a photo onto a blank canvas, I am unable to resize the photo on the layer without distorting it. I did not have this problem the first time I used the program but have since. I have reset all of the tools without success. I also previously had been able to replace the photo on my projects by dragging a new photo over top of the one that I want to replace, but now I cannot do this either. Any suggestions?

Hi out there I need some help (BIG TIME)I am new to all this can someone please tell me what Photoshop program can I use to cut the head off of one Photo an put it on another Photo with out spending an arm or a leg for the program I have tried calling Adobe Photoshop

  • Still photo layers

If I am working with still photos and I want to cut out a figure in the middle of the pic. Is there any way to do it in FCP. I don't want a box around it I need to do points to actually pull the figure itself out.
    thx

You could do it in FCP with a 50 point garbage matte (you can get free here).

but you would be better off doing it in Photoshop...

  • Printing Problem with layered photos

I have sent my InDesign document to the printer for reproduction.  There seems to be a problem with the output.  A couple of the photos (layered) did not print.  On my personal printer they print fine both directly from InDesign and the PDF I created.   Any suggestions?

You probably need a global CSS file for your GoLive site.

  • Importing 2 photos on separate layers into adobe ideas

Is it possible to import more than one photo, on separate layers, from illustrator into adobe ideas? If it is then can you tell me how to go about this please.

    Hi Fiona,
Its only possible to have one Photo layer in Adobe Ideas at the bottom of the layer stack. I think the photo layer was meant for reference in relation to the Drawing layers above.  I'm not sure if it helps, but in Adobe Photoshop Touch you can have muliple Photo layers.

  • How do I resize layers in trial version?

I have created a collage and would like to resize some of the photos/layers. I have been alternating working on this at my friend's using Photoshop 7 (because she's teaching me Photoshop), but it is not the same and I have not been able to find how to resize the photos. Moving and renaming layers I figured out. How do you resize please :-)
    Thank you!

Ctrl-t on windows and command-t on mac. This is the free transform tool (It will do everything the normal tranform tools will do). You will also find it in the edit menu. Just below that is transform menu which is dedicated scale, skew, rotate, etc. These tools work on a per selected layer(s) basis.

  • Even vector-based layers are pixelated. Why?

The files I am creating in photoshop are all coming out very pixelated lately. Especially after I flatten the image or export it to a pdf. This is true even for text layers, eps files I placed, and vector-based objects I drew. The photo layers are pixelated too, even though they were hi-res to begin with and I only made them smaller when I added them to my document. Any idea why everything is so pixelated? I tried changing the file from 72 to 300 pixels/inch, but that didn't clarify the images. It just smoothed the edges a bit.

As Chris pointed out if you flatten you no longer have any vector graphics,  To save your vector graphics you need to save in a layered format. PSB, PSD or Tiff.
You can additionally save different sized non layered image files from your layered document.   When you use Image Size to resample you document to a different size vector layers like shapes and text will be resized using vector graphics and pixel layers will be interpolated using the method you set in the image size dialog or your Photoshop preferences interpolation method.  It would be best if you use a tool like one of the Image Processor scripts to save these files from your Layer documents files so your layered files are not changed and over written. Some of the Image Processor scripts use Photoshop plug-in Fit Image to do the resizing.  Fit Image uses interpolation method bicubic. The newer Image Processor Pro can be downloaded from Russell Browns web site once installed you will find it under menu File>Automate>Image Processor Pro.  Its let you set which interpolations methods should be used for different output file sets.

  • PS Layers getting renamed after pasting (PROBLEM!!!)

I am an experienced FCP user, but for some reason this is just beyond my FCP or PS knowledge. I have a .psd file that is imported into FCP, i double click the psd file, then select all the layers, then paste them into a new sequence. The layers show up fine, but if i move the layers up 1, they get renamed to the psd file name. If i just use the .psd file and move the layers up 1 or more, they are fine. But i need to cut/paste them all the time and have been dealing with this for quite some time and it *****.
I first noticed this when i went to FCP 4 because we did a big upgrade with all of our software. FCP 3 to FCP 4, and all adobe stuff, PS6 to PS7, etc. But..
Recently we got FCP 5 and the problem is still there, so we got PS CS, and still having this problem. Maybe it is just a FCP 4 and 5 thing. Seemed that FCP 3 was my favorite. I just thought it was a PS 7 thing or something, but when we got CS, it has to be something else. Anyways..
Here is a breakdown of what i have been doing.
    1. Made a PSD file in PS 7, 2 layers. (Test.psd), then Open FCP 5, new project.
    2. Import it into FCP 5 and double click the file to open it up and see 2 layers.
    http://www.nofriends.com/stoker/Test1.jpg
    3. Pasted 2 layers into Sequence 1
    http://www.nofriends.com/stoker/Test2.jpg
Notice layers stay named, but Sequence 1 gets named Test.psd instead of Sequence 1
    4. Move both layers up 1 to V2 and V3, the bottom layer (main) gets renamed the file name (Test.psd). text-photos layers stays the same
    http://www.nofriends.com/stoker/Test3.jpg
    5. Move both layers up to V3 and V4, and both layers get renamed to the file name of Test.psd
    http://www.nofriends.com/stoker/Test4.jpg
    6. If i go back to the original .psd file which I originally double clicked and move the layers up and down, they do not get renamed to Test.psd.
    http://www.nofriends.com/stoker/Test5.jpg
I have used FCP since FCP 1.0 so i am not crazy. I used to be able to double click a layered psd file, then cut/paste the files into any sequence and the layers would keep their layer names, but it just does not work that way anymore.
    So...
Is it just my FCP or is this just how FCP 4 and up works?
Can someone please try these simple steps and see if the layers get renamed to the file name.
This is a huge problem for me because if i ever go to fix the .psd file, it is impossible to reconnect media because it does not know what layer to reconnect since the layer is renamed to the file name.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

    Steve,
    Thanks for the help.
I have trashed prefs, reinstalled, etc. Everything.
I have used FCP for a looong time.
It came around when i started using FCP 4.
I thought it was just PS6 or 7 or something back then.
Then when i "finally" got CS1, i thought the problem would go away.
    Nope.
    Totally weird.
It is so frustrating. I might just call up Apple or something.
It ***** when i have to make changes to a .psd file and it will not update when i go back into FCP because it doesnt know which layer to update since the file name is now like Main Menu.psd for each layer instead of naming each layer.
Weird how i can double click a .psd file and it opens up in the timeline and the layers are there.
Then select them both, paste them into a new sequence, move the layers up one and BAM, it gets changed to the file name.
I have NO IDEA what to do.
    Biggest bummer.
I feel like installing FCP 3 again.
