When we put photos into the photo library for sync with iPad, will iTune create another copy in my harddisk to keep the library update(other from the source file)? Will iTune create one more copy during its backup?
If you are using the standard itunes to ipad syncing method of designating a sync folder, no, not unless you duplicated the photos to create the sync folder on your pc.
If you are using some 3rd party photo management apps, they will duplicate the photos and each photo will affectively consume double the disk space on the PC.

Duplicate Pictures Photo Library and an iPhoto Album
I was trying to get some photos from iPhoto to my iPhone. I created a folder in iPhoto called "iPhone sync" and copied some pictures there. Then I selected iPhoto and that folder to sync in iTunes. Now I have the same pictures in "Photo Library" and the "iPhone Sync" folder (that I created) on my iPhone Photo Albums. Sorry I'm so dense, but how can I:
1. Get photos from iPhoto to the iPhone "Photo Library" without creating the new folder in iPhoto with which to sync - so I don't have two albums with the same pictures in them on my iPhone and,
2. How do I get rid of the "iPhone Sync" folder I created without also deleting the iPhone Photo Album?

All photos transferred from your computer and iPhoto to your iPhone are stored in your iPhone's Photo Library.
The photos in the iPhoto album include a pointer to the original photos stored in the Photo Library - the photos are not duplicated. Just as with iPhoto - all photos in all iPhoto albums are stored in your main iPhoto library. A photo cannot be in an iPhoto album unless the photo is available in your main iPhoto library, and a photo in your main iPhoto library can be in multiple iPhoto albums. The photos in the iPhoto albums are not duplicated - they include a pointer to the original photos stored in your main iPhoto library.
If you select multiple iPhoto albums to be transferred to your iPhone, all photos in all albums are stored in your iPhone's Photo Library. This way you can view all photos available in an album only by selecting the album under the Photo Library on your iPhone, or you can view all photos available in all albums by selecting Photo Library.
iTunes is the same. A song cannot be available in an iTunes playlist unless the song is in your iTunes library, and a song in your iTunes library can be available in multiple playlists. Songs in an iTunes playlist are not duplicated. This way you can listen to the songs in a playlist only by selecting the playlist, or you can listen to all songs in all playlists and/or available in your iTunes library by selecting Music. -
how do I delete photo ALBUMS from my iPHONE 4?
I sync via icloud and I can not see any folders selected in itunes.
I searched the internet and basically there is no one who has the answer (so far)

charles altmanReplying to my own post - heh. I downloaded iExplorer (http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/) which allowed me access to the files on the phone and there was the phantom movie in the DCIM folder. Deleted it, and all is well - although I still have 0.65gb of Other in iTunes.....

I have just downloaded itunes onto my pc.
Firstly when my iphone is plugged in and i open itunes it does not have a picture/photo folder under my phone listing.
Secondly when i go to photos from the top of screen and tick sync. It asks me to select the folder i want to sync with phone which i do. I then press apply and it transfers all the photos from that folder to my phone BUT it does it twice! I end up with two folders with the same photos. One named as per folder on pc and the other named photo library. I am not able to delete either of them. If i go back to itunes and unsync it deletes them both.
I have been trying for hours now.
If i just try to do it from my pc ie right click and send to iphone it wont do it just says phone not responding or disconnected
Any ideas?You do NOT have duplicates. This is how Apple handles photos.
Just as a song is in your Itunes Library and that exact same song can be accessed from a playlist, all synced photos are in the Photo Library and those exact same photos can be accessed from the album. -

If the Migration Assistant won't do it, move them over as you would any other folder; they're located in the Pictures and Music folders of your home folder by default. The iPhoto library needs to be transferred via a drive, partition, or disk image formatted as Mac OS Extended or through an AFP network share.

I have had my ipod touch 4th generation for a couple months now.... Nowhere in the manuals or help sections does it tell me how to make individual pucture files(like that already on my computer) put onto my ipod touch.... I managed to make one and I can't remember how I did it but when I have the touch hooked up to itunes and try to pick which picture files from my computer to sync, a box always opens and says that it will delete everything in the original photo library that was in there.....
Can anyone help me there has to be away, I know someone has done it but they don't live here to show me!!!!

I do have a photo library on my computer, but in the photo tab in itunes for the ipod touch and there is nothing checked for syncing, cause when I do check it it always says its going to replace everything i have in my photo library on my ipod touch..... So how am i suppose to have it checked and have it NOT replace pictures on it????
Also I cannot make more photo albums into my ipod touch, it just replaces the one album every time....
I am very frustrated cause I have tried the manuals and the apple support help etc and nothing pertains to my exact issue.....

I just updated my iTunes, and I need to delete photos from my iPod 4, and there is a Photo Library that synced to my iPod when i plugged it into my computer, and now it doesnt have the option to delete them off my iPod. How do I get rid of these photos? I have read other questions that say to plug the iPod into the computer and like un-sync it, but I downloaded the new iTunes and it doesnt have a photos tab. Does anyone know how to solve my problem? Please and Thank You, Megan!

I am having a problem when I try to select a photo or itunes song in Imovie or other programs. I get a window with grey lettering that says: "Open Itunes to populate this list" or "Open iphoto to see photos from your iPhoto library in this list. I have tried relaunching programs and nothing appears. Seemed to start happening a while back after one of my system upgrades.
After a a lengthy conversation with Apple Tech. ($20), my problem seems to be solves. The Iphoto problem solved by trashing the plist file. The Itunes was more involved. We had to create a new Itunes folder and import the files into the new folder; and then import the playlists.

thanks for the "TouchCopy" software link. I have downloaded a demo copy and it will resolve my transfer of music from iPhone to the new computer. I can then delete any unwanted music on the new computer, then re-synch the updated music to iPhone.
I am not sure about the photos. On my iPhone, there are two photo "albums" - one called "camera roll" and the other called "photo library." TouchCopy finds the pictures in the "camera roll" DCIM folder, and I can copy them to the new computer etc.
However, TouchCopy does not seem to find the "Photo Library" folder. Any clues? -
After updating iTunes to 11.0.1.12 and updating Apple TV to 5.1.1 my Apple TV is no longer picking up my photo library. It just keeps saying "loading library" but never brings the pictures up. It also tells me that home sharing isn't on even though it is and then I have to turn it off and on on the PC so the Apple TV even recognizes the photo library. These issues didn't happen with previous versions. Any ideas?
Update on my previous comment. I have solved my issue. Issue was with Windows 7 firewall not operating correctly. I was unable to add itunes to the 'Allow programs to communicate through windows firewall'. Hard drive packed up, but had Time Machine backup. I installed new ssd and upgraded to Mountain Lion, but I can't find iPhoto library and photos or iTunes songs? Is there an answer to this? A backup run did not install either photos or songs. Graham
Thanks so much but none of that helped. It was driving me crazy because it would back up another external drive. I just changed the name of the drive from iPhoto/iTunes Library to Media Libraries and IT WORKED!! I guess for some reason it didn't like the drive being called iPhoto or iTunes ???? I don't understand but I have tried so many solutions and exchanging things out but the name change did it????!!!

i tried selecting a folder with less than 50 photos as my source, importing photos phase still takes longer than what sounds normal for such a small number of photos, but the job is done nevertheless.
But what is worth noting, is that even if i run another pass of sync without touching the photos section (i.e. neither adding nor deleting any photo from the previous sync) it still takes the same amount of time on the "importing photos" phase.
when i select the actual photo library folder as my source (the one containing the 107,000 photos); at that point even selecting a subfolder in it that contains merely 10 photos generates the same dilemma.
i tried photoshop elements, spent like 4 hours building my library there, hoping that if i select it as the source in the photo tab in itunes, things would work out for the better, i was mistaken!
at this point am really out of options, and need some serious help.
few extra diagnostic infos:
the above manifests even on other devices like my iphone5.
the computer used is not exactly top notch but works for my Autocad drawings, i figure it should suffice for itunes (Dell Pentium D 3.19Ghz, 4GB Ram, 3TB HD, running windows 7 (32bit) ultimate)
the above persists when i sync wirelessly (not a USB bug issue)

one Imac, one new Macbook Pro, one Macbook, all on leopard. Wired and wireless, all airport extremes and express'
have purchased a mac mini plus a firewire 800 2TB Raid drive.
I have a 190GB ever increasing music library (I rip one to one no compression) and a 300gb photo library.
So..question Will it be easier to set up OS X Server on the mini and access my itunes library via that?
Is it easy to do so?
I only rip via the Imac, so the library is connected to that and shared to the laptops...how does one go about making the imac automatically connect to the music if i transfer all music to the server ?
The photo bit can wait depending on the answer to the music..

AdrianI have a much larger itunes collection (500gb/ 300k songs, a lot more photos, and several terabytes of movies). I share them out via a linux server. We use apple TV for music/video and the bottleneck appears to be the mac running itunes in the middle. I have all of the laptops (macbook pros) set up with their own "instance" of itunes that just references the files on the server. You can enable sharing on itunes itself, but with a library this size performance on things like loading cover art and browsing the library is not great. Please note also I haven't tried 8.x so there may be some performance enhancements that have improved things.
There is a lag on accessing music/video on the server of a second or so. I suspect that this is due to speed in the mac accessing the network shares, but it's not bad and you never know it once the music starts or the video starts. Some of this on the video front may be the codec settings I used to encode the video.
I suspect that as long as you are doing just music, this isn't going to be an issue for you with a mini. I also suspect that you don't need OSX server at all. You can just do a file share in OSX and give each machine a local itunes instance pointing back at the files on the server and have a good setup. -

You've given me the answer, since most of the items missing were from my CD collection I can reinstall from this source.
I am mostly repaired now with some photo library situations to resolve.
My new concern is that I want to purchase an iPad (latest issue) but am concerned about my ability to sync with it due to another weird situation that I have with my iPhone (My only telephone) which was to offset a very poor local broadband availability via the BT lines (the exchange is 6.3 km from my home with service marginally greater than dial up) hence my reason for investing in a mobile phone as locally the '3 store company' installed an antenna which allows me to connect (USB Tethering) to my PC via my iPhone providing me with a decent Internet service..
However, from my latest research on the iPad I need to have WiFi to sync. Hence my problem, while the iPhone provides a WiFi and tethering facility, I can only get the tethering part, although I have checked this out locally there appears to be no solution. What makes my situation even weirder is my PC WiFi card can see all the local WiFi hotspots (although mostly locked and not available, or if available are slower than molasses on a cold morning) but not my IPhone hotspot when not tethered. Until I have a solution for this I will not be purchasing an iPad as WiFi is their method of syncing. Now if the iPad had a way of tethering it would resolve the situation, another if only I'm afraid.
Regardless of my dilemma thanks very much for your help your number one in books. It's quite exciting trying to integrate the various technologies
