Photo library upgrade causes crash

On starting iPhoto, I get the message  "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto"
If I click upgrade the app crashes. If I click Quit the app closes.
Had problems with iPhoto as disk space was full, however now I can't start the app to remove photos.  Can any one advise ?
Version iPhoto 9.4.3 on OSX 10.8.4
Thanks

Apologies re font.  Looks like the photo library needing upgrading was a read herring. I was pointing to the wrong library.  Now my original problem exists.
Trying to open iPhoto causes it to crash. I do get a report that I can send to Apple -

  • Unable to install Photo Library Upgrader

    I am using a 13in 2013 mac air 1.3 GHz Core i5  running version 10.9.2
I tried using iphoto today -- rarely use it, and it said I needed to install photo library upgrader -- would not open.  I downloaded the upgrader but when I attempt to install it says no can do, that I need to be running iphoto 9.0 or later.  The info says I am using version 9.5.1
This is the first time I have ever had a problem using apples nearly brainless software.
    suggestions?

Sounds like you've updated an updater to the iPhoto application. The Library updater is a different thing. Try here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1523?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    Download it.
    Install it.
Then go to Applications/Utilities and double click on it to run it.

  • IPhoto '08 freezes on photo library upgrade

I realize this is pretty similar to other posts, but it's apparently different enough that answers to those posts don't seem to work for me.
After installing iLife '08, launching iPhoto indicates that I need to upgrade my photo library - only two options are [Upgrade] and [Quit]. Selecting [Upgrade] starts the "Updating photo library..." process. Time remaining is, apparently, "About an hour". And then...nothing. The status bar never moves, the program freezes and I'm left with Force Quit as my only option. Same result after each one of my (at least) ten attempts.
I tried using Terminal to unlock my photo library files to no avail. It doesn't seem to be an issue with losing the library since the photos are still there in Finder after I Force Quit iPhoto.
    Any suggestions/ideas?
I apologize in advance if the question has already been answered - just point me in the right direction and I'll go away happy.
    Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Even though you tried terminal give this a try:download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name in the owner section and Staff in the group section. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. Then try again.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • HT5037 photo library upgrade has hung up my iPhoto program and library

I got this message to upgrade my photo library, and it has made my iphoto inoperable. I get a continual spinning circle in the center, while it is supposedly upgrading my photo library. I can't select the Quit button on the upgrade message, and I can't close the program.  If someone knows how to get out of this inconvience I would appreciate the advice

Force quit, backup your iPhoto library, depress the option and command keys, launch iPhoto and rebuild your library

The iPhoto Library Upgrader won't download on to my MacBook Pro (Yosemite 10.10.1) Download bar shows it's downloading, then nothing.Ideas? I can't get to my photos with the newest iPhoto.

It's def an older version: the new iPhoto icon and the former library icon both tell me I need the upgrade and link me to the appropriate Apple site. Download bar indicates it's downloading, when bar is full nothing more happens. No notice that it was successful, or not, or already in there. I've rebooted a couple times and tried again.Looked it Utilities folder each time as well aas anywhere I can think of on hard drive and Applications folder.

  • Photo library upgrade on ipad

My ipad won't pass the screen that says upgrading your photo library.

Then make a backup of you iPad (just in case) and reinstall iPhoto.
    Reinstall an app
Remove the app from your device and reinstall it:
Tap and hold any app icon on the Home Screen until the icons start to wiggle and show a small "x" in the top-left corner of the app.
Tap the "x" in the corner of the app you want to delete.
Tap Delete to remove the app and all of its data from your device.
    Press the Home button.
    Go to the App Store.
Search for the app and download it again.

  • Not seeing last 12 months of pics after photo library upgrade

Opened iPhoto this morning and got the following pop up window message: "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto." I checked my version of iPhoto '11 (version 9.2.3 Build 629.52) and found that it is up to date. I also searched around on some community threads about this error, and it didn't seem to be a problem to upgrade the library.
As soon as I selected the option to upgrade the library, iPhoto started. Since that time, I have not been able to see any pictures from the past 12 months. It has been a couple of hours since starting the upgrade, and I'm not sure if that has been enough time for the library rebuild to finish. My iPhoto Library file is about 73 GB and use the Intego backup software that came with my iMac
Is there anything I can do to make sure the library is actually being upgraded?
What should I do if this does not complete by tomorrow?

Force quit out of iPhoto and do the following: make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Updated iPhoto (2.0) and photo library upgrade is stuck

I have just updated to iPhoto 2.0 on my iPhone 5. I get a message that the photo library on this device is being upgraded. For the last over 30 minutes. I have tried to reboot, uninstall iPhoto and then redownload load, but same issue. (I have done the same update on an iPad with no trouble.) Anyone have any thoughts on what I could do?
    Keith

Mine is doing the same thing. I have 3000 pictures and let it run for almost an hour and no luck.  After a bunch of force closing and re launching it I got the message to go away but it shows no pictures.   Opened it again and now it shows the same "The photo library on this device is being upgraded". Anyone get past this

  • ITunes photo sync button causes crash

I'm using Windows XP and iTunes 7. I'm trying to add photos to my iPod Nano, and since the only way to do that is through iTunes, I'm kind of screwed. Here's why:
Whenever I click on the check box that would sync a photo folder to my iPod, iTunes just crashes. I've tried restarting everything, and tried restoring my iPod. Nothing seems to work, and I'm STILL on hold with tech support, and have been for about 10 minutes.
So if anyone can help with this problem, that would be awesome, because I'm pretty irritated at this point.
    Windows PC   Windows XP

OK so i got mine working, hope this helps..
1.Restore iPod to factory settings (if you don't mind wiping your iPod clean)
2.When it reconnects, Itunes will ask you if you want to automatically sync Music and/or Photos when you connect. I said no to Music but YES to Photos. (previously i said no to both)
3.Once setup is finished, click on your iPod in Itunes, and now if you go to the PHOTO tab instead of crashing when you click "Sync photos from" it is now already ticked, and you can then select a folder to import photos from the options on the right!
After all i tried to fix this problem all i had to do it seems, was to tell itunes to "auto sync photos" during the setup process.
    Hope this helps you!
    Please let me know!
Oh and sorry for the rough translation. I was so excited getting it all to work that I rushed this so i could get the info to you!

  • IPhoto Library Upgrader causing problems?

I opened iPhoto and got a message "cannot view pictures with current version. Install iPhoto Library Upgrader" (something like this). After installing it, my whole library disappeared. Could they be in another folder? I can't time machine. Backup HD down.

Download and run Find Any File to search for a file named "Library6.iPhoto" which is unique to iPhoto libraries.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages. If there's a library hiding somewhere on your hard drive FAF will find it.

  • IPhoto 6.0.5 recent Upgrade causing crashes

Recently upgraded to 6.0.5 and am experiencing repeated crashes. Seems to be related to Photoshop. If I open a photo in Photoshop to edit, then save and return to iPhoto, iPhoto crashes. The message box asking if I want to send a report to Apple doesn't even stay open long enough to send the report, before it to crashes. It progressed to the point where I couldn't even open the photos in iPhoto's preview or edit window without it crashing. Now I can't even seem to view the pictures that were edited in Photoshop in iPhoto. It also seems to effect an entire roll, even if some of photos in the roll weren't opened in Photoshop. Any other photo from a different roll works fine. This all worked fine prior to the upgrade.
    Any ideas?

This thread seems to be the same as the one where Photoshop Elements was isolated as a participant in the crashes. ICC profiles or color space or something is missing from the file when it gets saved by Photoshop Elements. I'm sure there's a way Photoshop can do this too.
You might want to use ColorSync Utility or some other application to assign a color space/profile to all the photos in that roll, and see if the problem still occurs. As far as I can tell, success is iffy but then again doing or understanding this isn't simple. It took me a while to get my head around it, and I'm still confused.

  • Acrobat 9.1 upgrade causes crash

I upgraded Acrobat Pro 9.0 to 9.1. When I launched 9.1, it started immediately opening the last 50-60 pdf files that I worked on, until the app finally stopped.
I have done completely clean reinstalls of 9.0, then adding 9.1. Interestingly, I can work 6-7 hours with Acrobat without a problem, then, all of a sudden, the same thing happens again. It will start opening the last 50-60 files. I have my Preferences>Documents set to: Documents in recently used list: 1; remember files in organizer history for: Don't remember PDFs.
But if just reinstall 9.0, without the upgrade, everything works fine.
Anyone experienced this? Have a solution?
I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit on a new Core i7 workstation.

After doing recommended updates Acrobat crashes whenever I try to open a .pdf (that worked under 9.0).
I tried un-installing Reader, rebooted, did Acrobat repair... no go!
Looks like Adobe really screwed up ... wish I could get my money back.
I will NEVER give Adobe another cent... what a waste!

  • Will I lose my photo library upgrading from iPhoto 7.1.5

Hi, I just upgraded my OS to Lion (I was going to wait until Mountain Lion came out but apparantley my macbook (2008) is too old to support it). Anyway, I want access to the icloud and after upgrading to Lion, I discovered that I needed to upgrade my iphoto as well. Should I be concerned about losing my photos with this upgrade?

    No
Unless something goes wrong which is why you always have a good backup before upgradating or upgrading

  • IOS 8.2 upgrade causes crash on boot

My phone has just been resetting itself all day since upgrading to 8.2. It's useless at this point. It gets to the white screen with the Apple logo for about two - three seconds, then resets. This is all my phone does now.
This is not a very good upgrade. I would at least like to text or make calls or even use the operating system.
