Photo loaded into CS4 from Aperture question

In Aperture I wantt to take an NEF into CS4. So I choose Edit - open in CS4. Aperture makes a PSD file and opens CS4. All well and good.
I thought now once in CS4 if I selected Convert To Smart Object I could then click the little icon created what is now Layer 0 and Camera Raw would open and I could edit in Camera Raw? Is this not the case?
If I drag an NEF file onto the CS4 icon in my Dock, CS4 opens and I'm in Camera Raw first. I was hoping to access Camera Raw at times as above though.
I hope this is clear?
Thanks all.

If you really only want to import only one image from iPhoto to Aperture, and if you have Aperture 3.3 and iPhoto 9.3 then you can open Aperture and iPhoto at the same time on their respective libraries and simply drag the image in question from the iPhoto Library to the project in Aperture.
However, this will not import the full resolution raw originals but full resolution high quality jpeg previews; if jpeg suffices, you can do this, if you temporarily need a single image only. Also, your captions and keywords will not be imported. Usually you will want to import the original with all your edits and tags, then it would be best to merge the libraries as TD explained.
For one image to import from iPhoto, you could use the command "File > Reveal in Finder > Original" in iPhoto to show the original master file in the Fider window. Then drag this File into the Aperture window. This way you will be importing the master.

  • Iphoto unexpectedly qyuits. This began after dragging photo's into iphoto from scanner

iphoto now unexpectedly quits. This began after dragging photo's into iphoto from scanner

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Importing photos into iphoto from aperture

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard not realizing Aperture 1.5.6 would not open again. I do not use Aperture enough to pay for an upgrade and want to import my photos into iPhoto for future use. How do I do this (where are the files) and keep the quality of the pictures? If I can get the data into iphoto, can i then delete the aperture file? Thanks

The correct way to do this is to Export from Aperture to folders on the Desktop and then import to iPhoto.
As Aperture 1 won't open for you, you could download a trial of Aperture 2, open your Library, do the exports and then trash the app and the library.
This has the added advantage of it being possible to access versions, metadata that you added in Aperture etc
    Otherwise:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the Aperture Library there.
Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Inside you will see a lot of stuff but you are looking for the .approject packages
So, you will see something like
    JohnsBirthday.apprproject
Right click on that and go Show Package Contents
A new window opens with the project exposed.
Look for a folder called XXXX @ YYYY - 1.apimportgroup - where X and Y are the date and time of the import. Insie that you'll find a folder for each shot you imported. Just drag the original out of there to a folder on the desktop.
Repeat. And Repeat. And Repeat for each photo in your Aperture Library.
This will yield you your Original Files as imported to Aperture.

  • Photos in FCE; export from Aperture in target size?

    hi all.
I'm planning to place photos from Aperture into my FCE project, with the photos fading from one to the next. they won't be full screen, less than half. to get the best final quality, do I need to sharpen and export from Aperture so that the photos are placed within the FCE project at 100% without scaling?
    cheers,
    Gregory

    Hi Frank.
    Thanks for the response.
Agreed, the pertinent question is why can't my colleague edit the JPG exported by Aperture. It's probably also worth pointing out, the same problem occurs with JPGs exported from iPhoto.
The Windows software usually plays nicely with JPGs by all acounts, just not the ones I send - which I do via eMail or my public space on Mobile Me incidently.
So, another key question is: all settings being equal (color profile, quality, etc.) are the JPGs as produced by iPhoto and Aperture indistinguishable from those produced by other apps on other platforms - i.e. does the use of JPG enforce a common standard?
If that is the case, I suspect ours might be a permissions issue.
According to the Microsoft support page on editing in Windows Live Photo Gallery, the inability to edit a picture is commonly caused by unsupported file type, or read-only attribute set on the file.
Unfortunately, he and I are not in the same place, and he's not particularly au-fait with this type of problem solving. Hence, before involving him, I'd like to know:
    1. it's possible (i.e. someone else does it), and,
    2. what's involved (at my end and/or his).
    Thanks again,
    PB

  • Syncing photos to iPod Touch from Aperture

I have a Touch on which I would like to sync some photos from Aperture through iTunes. ITunes sees my albums in Aperture, but it only sees one photo out of many. I am certain I am doing something incorrectly, but just don't have any ideas on what that might be. I am not sure if this is an iTunes issue or an Aperture issue. I have all the latest updates, and am using Aperture 2. Any ideas, anyone?

If yes, how did you resolve it?

    Hi,
There might be a chance that this particular PO Number has been deleted in the SRM system recently.Check whether this PO Number exists in 0BBP_CON or 0BBP_INV as the data comes into 0BBP_PO from these ODS's only.

  • Data Loading into Infocube from ECC.

    Hi,
Can someone help me with the list of steps to be followed for loading data into infocube using Data trasnformation process. Steps to be perfomed in the system.
Also please share any links on various methods of loading data into infocube from ECC.
    Thanks!

The steps would be *** foloows:-
    1) Create the info-objects.
    2) Create the infocube. If you a Planning area and the cube is a replica of the PA you can use /SAPAPO/TS_PAREA_TO_ICUBE to create the infocube.
    3) You create a source system as a file system.
    4) You create the datasource with the relevant fields.
    5) You create a transformation for the cube using the datasource you created in step 4.
    6) Last step would be to create DTP. When you create the DTP, on the first screen, check the checkbox for "Do not load data from PSA". This will give you additional fields to enter the file path. When this DTP is created and generated, goto the last tab of the DTP to execute.
This will help you to directly pull the data from the file and load it into the cube.
You can also create  a Process chain to automate this process.
    Hope this helps.
Let me know in case of any more information.

  • Arranging Photos When Synching MobileMe from Aperture to web

When I arrange the photos in my mobile me album in Aperture by "Rating", then synch it from aperture to the web, it keeps going back to "Manual", affecting the photo arrangements I intended. Of course, when i send the link to the client what he sees will be totally different from what I'm talking about.
The annoying thing is I keep telling it to arrange photos by Rating, synch it again, and it goes back to Manual, over and over. I have about 300 photos in the album, and sometimes it takes long.

Thanks to you all for the help and welcoming to the forum. I will get a color calibrator tomorrow as I know I need it. That link is very helpful also.
So far in my 1st two weeks running a mac, barring a few issues that I believe can be addressed with system updates, I am more than happy I made the switch.
I find photoshop and all my image editing software run really fast compared to my old windows pc. The funny thing is my pc is a 3.2ghz processor and my mbp is a 2ghz processor. Go figure!!
I like aperture a lot also but I am also pleased with lightroom. There is one major reason why I find myself using lightroom still. I can't find a way to edit multi images in aperture. In lr I just select the images I want to say change white balance, I select the preset wb or color temp. and then it updates all the images I have selected. Is there an equivalent to this action in aperture? I think if I had this available to me I would very very happy with aperture.

    UTL_FILE
With the UTL_FILE package, your PL/SQL programs can read and write operating system text files. UTL_FILE provides a restricted version of operating system stream file I/O.
UTL_FILE I/O capabilities are similar to standard operating system stream file I/O (OPEN, GET, PUT, CLOSE) capabilities, but with some limitations. For example, you call the FOPEN function to return a file handle, which you use in subsequent calls to GET_LINE or PUT to perform stream I/O to a file. When file I/O is done, you call FCLOSE to complete any output and free resources associated with the file.

  • Better photo editing software, CS4 or Aperture 3?

    Hi,
I've been a Mac user for a few years and have recently picked up photography as a hobby.  I feel like I have outgrown Iphoto and have the opportunity to use CS4 or Aperture 3.  Which do you all think is better?
Also, on a side note, I'm in the market to pick up a new MBP, any suggestions on a model, specs to use with my new hobby?  Thanks in advance for all the input.
Lastly, I'm new to the support communities, so I apologize if I'm not submitting this correctly.

What I have noticed is the Ap 3 appears pretty RAM intensive and seems to "bog down" my MBP (2.66 core2duo, 8GB RAM, 360GBHD).  This is another reason I was considering using something else, as well as purchasing a new MBP (see my initial post).
Photoshop can get slow too, if you pile on the layers and other features. There are tech notes you can read about how to manage RAM with Photoshop, because if you ask it to do certain things, like panoramas and HDR, it could need as much horsepower as Aperture. It's just the nature of image editing, especially if done with many-megapixel images.
    FyrBndr wrote:
I didn't realize you could use both interchangeably.
Not actually interchangeably, but differently according to their strengths. The medical analogy (pardon me if this is lame) might be Aperture is a fantastic general practitioner that can expertly process a bunch of patients in an hour, while Photoshop is the surgeon who gets called in to do amazing things no one else in the hospital can, but needs a 6-hour surgery to do it.

    >My sister is a graphic artist and she has the professional version of all the Adobe software (Adobe Creative Suite 4, Design Premium) which she gave to me when she upgraded to CS5.
The bad news here is that you won't be able to use your sister's old copy of CS4. The software requires product activation and your sister's upgrade to CS5 has cancelled any possibility of using her old copy of CS4. Adobe specifically prohibits that and once a serial number is used to upgrade to a new version, it can no longer be used.
More specifically, the license is for the product, not for the version. The entire upgrade chain belongs to the one license. CS gets 2 activations (which are supposed to be used non-concurrently by a single user, like desktop and laptop or home and work). It is possible for both people to activate one copy within the two activation limit although this is technically a violation of the single-user license.
Legally, only you or your sister can use that suite. If your sister chose to transfer the product license to you, there is some paperwork to fill out and then the license and all future upgrade rights would become all yours and not hers, instead of how it is right now where it's all hers and not yours.

  • Sync'ng Photos onto 5G iPod from Aperture

I have long been using iPhoto to catalog and organize my substantial photo library. Recently, I transferred all of my images into Aperture. Now when I attempt to sync my Aperture photos with my iPod through iTunes (using the Aperture selection from the Photos tab), I receive an error 'The iPod "MEBenner's iPod" cannot be syncd. An unknown error occurred (-50)'
I use my iPod as a convenient and portable portfolio device and I do not intend to run both iPhoto and Aperture and I do prefer the advantages and benefits of Aperture, especially as my library grows.
Does anyone have any suggestions to resolve this? I have read through other posts and do not find the specific (-50) error. I have purged the "iPod Photo Cache", recommended for similar issues, without success.

You can only use one. If you use Aperture just import your iPhoto library into Aperture or import the albums you want. If you import as referenced photos, you can leave the originals in place in the iPhoto library and have referenced (small) files in Aperture. Aperture will generate previews for those photos and you can have both your Aperture and iPhoto photos to sync to your iPod.

  • Is there any way to get aperture to include caption and title with a photo when emailing directly from aperture?

I have been all over and it seems impossible to do... but it also seems impossible that I'm the only one who wants to put a title and description with a photo once, and then have that follow the photo when I email it, rather than having to re-type each little tidbit every single time I email an image. I use aperture for work and am always creating custom batches of images to send to prospective clients. it's crazy having to re-do the information every time.
Any suggestions for workarounds, plugins... something I'm missing?? iphoto used to do this automatically but it seems it doesn't anymore. even knowing the reason why they aren't allowing it might make me feel less insane
    thanks!

    Thanks both of you!
I think my iphoto settings must have defaulted back when I migrated to my new computer because sure enough, when I followed your instructions it went back to emailing the descriptions, which is great, and I hadn't ever tried opening the same library in iphoto. That's really convenient. It's too bad (and sort of strange I think) that Aperture doesn't have the same feature but as workarounds go this one is quite lovely.
The only remaining question is why, when I do open the library in iphoto, the description is intact but there is no title other than the version name?
For example, in aperture there is the version name, which is something like _DSC1733, the title I added in the "title" bar, which might be "diamond necklace" and then the description which is "18" long, 2carats total weight, platinum, 2013".
When I open the library in iphoto, the version name is at the top and under it is the decription, and the title is gone.
Unless there is another button I missed I think I have to go in and add the title into the description, and then just uncheck the version name when emailing so it doesn't show up.
Any advice? Hope I made the question clear-ish
