Photo merge panorama import file size?

Is it necessary to convert files to jpeg when doing a photo merge panorama. I keep getting to told to convert to 8 bit from 16 bit and am not sure how to do that.

Which version of photoshop elements and operating system are you using?
If these are camera raw files, then most likely the camera raw converter is set to open the files as 16 bits/channel in photoshop elements.
You can change that by opening a camera raw file and then at the bottom of the camera raw dialog set the Depth to 8 Bits/Channel and then press Done.
Try your pano again and see if that made a difference.

I need to export a photo at around 1meg file size, and dont seem to be able to do it in the presets can anyone help please ,I shoot on a canon 5d

I believe Frank is referring to the end use (e.g., for print or on-screen use).
Until he returns, I can tell you that I ran a quick test using an image from the Aperture 3 training book library which was as follows:
Camera = Canon EOS 5D Mark II
    Master resolution = 5616 x 3744 (21 MP)
I was able to export to a JPEG with end file size of 1 MB as follows:
Export Presets drop-down > select 'Edit' option
Selected preset name 'JPEG - 50% of Original Size' > change percentage value to 40% > change DPI value to '300' > click OK to set as current default > Export version to desktop.
The exported JPEG has a resolution of 2246 x 1498 and appears on screen to have the same image quality of the original in Aperture.
Note - I did not change the default Image Quality slider in the Export Preset dialog (which left it at 10).
Basically, you will need to play around with the settings until you find the appropriate values to arrive at an image version you want.

  • Retouch photo without reducing the file size/quality?

I have been retouching some pictures for use in a photo book but notice that each time I do so, the file size decreases fairly significantly e.g from 4MP to 2MP.
Is there a way I do minor retouching to a photo without reducing the file size/quality?
    Thanks in advance

Where are you seeing this size reduction? What format are the original photos?
For example when you edit a RAW photos you create a JPEG modified version which is much smaller - one I just did went from 17 MB as RAW to 4.4 as a JPEG  --  you could save as a TIFF but to me that is not worth the space loss - I seriously doubt that you will ever do anything that you can see the difference in quality between a TIFF and JPEG of yoru images

  • Photo imports - file size inconsistencies

I have lots of 60MB .tif files that I convert to .jpg before importing into the Starter Edition. I am getting confusing messages - sometimes it will let me import 4MB .jpg files and the next minute it will not import a 1MB .jpg files - says "File is too big". Anyone know what is going on? I have P4 3.2 and 512MB and lots of disk space.
    Thanks

    > If Adobe posted some guidelines on this matter it would be appreciated.
They have for th epaid-for version. I don't think they'd see it as relevant to the free version, as this is aimed at digital photographers who will not encounter any limitations in this respect.
You might find the FAQ on the PSA forum helpful. This posting is probably what you're after:
Forums Operations, "I am receiving an error "File is too large" when importing some photos. Is there a file size limit?" #, 20 Oct 2003 8:59 am
The paid-for version is certainly closer to your needs [it can handle the TIFF files, for example]. But I would recommend looking at PSE instead, as it gives even more capability [at a bargain price].

  • Photo Both video (.mov) file size in Lion

Photo Both in Lion saves videos (.mov) with double the file size of previous versions.  I have verified by looking at a 30 second video created pre-Lion (2.1mb) and a new 30 second video created post-Lion (4.1mb) on the same MacBook Air.  I have seen even more drastic file size increses on a newer MacBook Pro; more that 20mb for a video that used to be under 2mb.
There are no settings available in Photo Booth.  And as stated in other threads there is no method in Mail to resize a video, this option is only available for images.  The only functioning workaroud is to open the .mov file in Quicktime and then export for the web.  This is OK, but the beauty of Photobooth and the Mail button within was the ability to just quickly fire off a video.  Opening another app, exporting and then attaching to an email is no longer simple or beautiful.
Does anyone know why the filesizes have jumped up so drastically?  More importantly, does anyone know how to get the file size of videos created in Photo Booth back under control so they can be emailed more easily?

UPDATE:  Using any of the effects in photo booth videos greatly reduces the file size.  This seems a bit contrary to what I would expect.  Adding birds flying around my head cuts the video size in half.  Sepia cuts down to 1/3.  Black and white, the one that isnt a suprise, is less that 1/4 the file size of just plain old color.
Why can't I just have the nice small video files that Photo Booth used to save??

  • I Photo Book Design and File Sizes??

I Photo ? for any photo buffs out there-- I  cant find what the largest file size i can import for an iphoto book-
Also--i am making my own photo page using another program and then I guess i will then import them to iPhoto so i can import them to a book-
also-- when it says ful page bleed--  it appears that iphoto still puts a grey border around--thus making your photo page smaller-- any work arounds this??
I want all my pages to have photo end to end-- complete bleed to the page edges -Thanks for any --All Help!! T Hopkins
I have Lion operating system-- do not see it as a choice to select here either?

From what I've observed in my books full bleed was just that. Have you checked out a sample book at your nearest Apple store?
The page dimensions are 8.5 x 11 for the standard, hard cover book. Photos should have the sRGB color profile (NOT the Adobe RGB profile). Since iPhoto creates a pdf of the book at 300 dpi for uploading and printing photos don't need to have a dpi resolution any higher than that.
An easy way to get the page from a 3rd party app into iPhoto would be to do a Print ➙ PDF ➙ Save PDF to iPhoto. This will create a jpg file of the page and import it into iPhoto.  If you don't have the Save PDF to iPhoto option in the PDF menu you can download the file, a 300 dpi version, Save PDF to iPhoto 300 DPI.workflow from  Toad's Cellar and place it in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder.

  • Stage size versus imported file size

I am new to the flash universe ... I am running Flash CS3 Pro on a Mac OSX 10.5.8
Why is the stage size larger or file size always smaller when I import a file into Flash.
I create a new project (Action Script 3.0), change the Stage size to 125 px x 162 px. Then import jpg images at that same pixel size, but they never fill the entire stage.

When you alter (reduce) an image's size in Flash it can display the wavy lines.  What you might try to overcome that is to right click the image in the library, select Properties, and in the image properties panel select the option to allow smoothing.
As far as what is going on with Phtoshop not creating the images to the dimensions you specify, you may need to check the manual.  I have never had a problem, though I never really used Photoshop much.  Try using Fireworks if you have it and see how it fairs.

  • Import file size

I have imported an mp4 file size 107MB. Why does this end up as
a DV file 3.51GB? I need to get 900MB of mp4 onto one dvd.

Am doing - a very lengthy process to import mp4s. It appears
that you get the letterbox effect and lose the true 16:9.
Does anyone out there know with which software it it possible to
put together about 900MB (7 files) of 16:9 mp4 (or converted into anything
else) and burn onto 1 dvd with a menu and chapter markings for each file??

  • I created a new Lightroom catalog for iPhone photos. After importing files from iPhoto photos are randomly popping up and deleting other photos! Is this a virus? A bug? A corrupt catalog? How do I fix it? I just installed 5.6 and that didn't resolve it.

I updated my computer software...I don't know what else to do and I can't find any information about this online.
    Please help! Thanks.

Geoff  for a few years I used iPhoto for my iPhone files.
Now that I am not using iPhoto any longer I attempted to move my old iPhoto phone files into my Lightroom iPhone catalog.
    A couple possibilities are that:
    1) There was a problem with the export/import from iPhoto to Lightroom. I've been reading up on how to do it correctly...
One article said to make a copy of the master catalog in iPhoto, export it and then import it into Lightroom. This is what I did.
I read another article that said exporting as Original from iPhoto and then importing into LR also worked so I did that with another iPhone catalog from my laptop.
    2) Maybe it's a file name situation? Perhaps the phone rolled over and there are old and new files with the same names.
The strange thing about that is that older photos are popping up and replacing/deleting newer ones.
I would think the newer files would replace older ones if that was the case.
    Any thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks.

  • Maximum import file size for stills?

I am getting an error importing stills that are large, about 6000 pixels wide. I wanted to zoom into the image in my 1920x1200 video... Couldn't find info on max image size... anyone know?
    thanks...

    Studio3D,
I do a fair amount of work with stills in Premiere. I always plan the size necessary for the pans and re-size to exactly what is required, based on the Project's image dimensions. As I do not do any "random pans and zooms," (each is choreographed tightly) I do all of the re-sizing work in PS, before Import. However, with your hi-rez Project, you might well be pushing the limiting size in Premiere. You may have to step back, just a little, and tighten your pans to accommodate these limits.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS I like the re-sizing algorithms in PS better than any I have worked with in PrP. Have not experimented with CS4, so I might change my tune, should they have changed their algorithms.

  • Photo Merge using RAW files - does white balance matter?

I'm using a Canon 5dII and create RAW files to be merged - both stitched and for HDR.  In other words, if I bracket 3 (0, +2, -2)  I'll do the bracket 3 times, once for the left, middle and right parts of the scene and will have 9 RAW images.  I'm asking the question because as I pan I may be moving from sun to shade.  If I use auto white balance, I'm concerned that the 3 stitched sections may have a different WB set (e.g. sun and shade).  If PS5 doesn't use the WB tag, then it is immaterial.  If it does use the WB tag would it use the same setting for all 3 parts of the stitched scene.  I could of course manually set the WB for each series of 9, but would prefer not to if it is not necessary and continue to use AWB as I now do.
THANKS!  I know my question is not specific to Macintosh - If this should be directed to another forum please let me know.

If I am visuallizing what you are asking correctly, yes it does matter. In my
exspirence the way I have had the most success doing what you are doing is
to merge all your image that are -2 stop into a pano. Save
as a high-res TIFF 16-bit or higher. Repeat the process
for the following 2 stop and then merge your TIFFs to
and HDR. Something I always to before
Photomerging is  to use Camera Raw get the setting of exposure and what not exactl
y how you what them copy those setting and paste to all the following images that are included in
that photomerge, that helps to take care or variation
s that can happen with exposure doing panos, it more often then not has a
    real nice outcome.

  • What is the Max import file size for Aperture

I'll some times shoot film and get very large scans done as Tiffs or Jpegs. 500MB+ What is the Max that Aperture can manage, or is it only determined by the Mac configuration?

I'm curious to know this as well before upgrading. Hopefully it has been improved in Aperture 3. I know Aperture 2 only supported up to 250MB which was near useless if you'd ever made any significant adjustments and edits in Ps and saved it as a .psd.
All my medium format (digital and film scans) and large format scans give me the maroon "Unsupported Image Format" error while trying to view in Aperture 2.

Thanks so much for the quick reply! I've been wrestling with this for a few hours now... Can you say tenacious? lol
Ok then. I download via iPhoto but even when I took it directly from my camera to the finder, it can in as the same size.
Any suggestions of where to look further?
