Photo Meta data stripped out

Other than a small savings in file size why would iWeb strip all of the photos metadata, i.e. keywords, ©info, owner name, description, even the filename itself, etc. out of photos added to iWeb.
Is there any way around this, I've tried drag and drop from a folder with the same results.
Considering Apple makes it's living on copyrights why do they make it so difficult for the rest of us to reserve ours?
Otherwise the new iWeb rocks!

You must be talking about non-standardized meta data, as in iphoto meta data or some other apps???
Because I'd geo-tagged my photos with standardize meta data (EXIF) and iweb does not strip it off.
I can see iweb resize the photos, but EXIF meta data is intact, I can build full google earth and google map file from iweb photo page rss.xml file.
This google map is based on iweb photos page: http://home.cyclosaurus.com/AlumRock_Park_GoogleMaps.html
and this is the photos page, the photos are geotag with standard EXIF:
http://www.cyclosaurus.com/Home/PhotoAlbums/Pages/Alum_RockPark.html
You can download my photos and you will see EXIF meta data is there.

  • Viewing Photo Meta Data on the IPhone

Is there an app in the app store that will allow me to view the meta data tags for my photos? I tried to find one, but the ability to find apps based on functionality in the app store is pretty limited.

Not sure on your exact need but try this site for app shopping... http://appshopper.com/. Much easier and quicker than the App store. There are a few others you can find with Google.

  • Photos uploaded from iphone have exif data stripped out

How can I upload a photo from iphone via safari or an app with the EXIF data still intact? When I upload now from the phone via safari or an application, the EXIF data is lost.

You need to use the photo stream folder to share photos on a PC.

  • Recovering Photo Meta Data from Apple TV Hard Drive

A friend's imac HD died and some of her photos only exist on her apple tv. I was able to remove the Apple TV drive and recover the photos. That's good news. But the photos are all cryptically named, are not in a meaningful folder structure and, the creation dates are wrong.
I assume the correct info is stored in the "Photo Library" file on the Apple TV.
Does anyone know how to get her recovered photos hooked back up to their metadata? I don't.
    Thanks,
    Richard

I don't think the AppleTV actually stores any useful metadata as it never used it in practice; as you note it gives files odd cryptic names, and I'm not convinced that the files are actually identical to those on the iMac - they may be getting downsized/more compressed for AppleTV duties.

  • Photo EXIF Data Stripped When Sync'd BACK to iPhone via iTunes

I'm not sure whether this belongs here or in the iPhone forum, but since it looks like an iTunes problem, I thought you all might have an idea. Here's the problem:
    1. Take Picture with iPhone (3GS, if it matters) in portrait orientation.
    2. Import Picture into Photoshop Elements 7.
    3. EXIF Data survives (including correct orientation).
    4. Put Picture in "iPhone Pictures" Album in Photoshop Elements 7.
    5. EXIF Data survives (including correct orientation).
    6. Delete Picture from Camera Roll on iPhone.
    7. Sync "iPhone Pictures" Album (which includes Picture) to iPhone using iTunes 8.2.0.23.
    8. EXIF Data lost (including incorrect orientation).
    9. Picture appears on iPhone with incorrect orientation and all other EXIF Data appears to have been lost.
This appears, then, to be a problem with the way iTunes is treating the Picture when it syncs it back to the iPhone as a part of the "iPhone Pictures" Album, but I'm not certain.
My particular concern is with the loss of the orientation flag (which results in all portrait images rotated 90* CCW).
Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
    Thanks.

Great bug report! Sorry, I don't have any ideas on how you might workaround it. I can only suggest that you submit it to Apple as a "real" bug report.

  • Can a Photo Gallery be created using the Meta Data with a Widget or Lightroom ?

I want to create a website with a bunch of photo galleries, but I have to have the Titles and Descriptioins from the Meta data used.
Can Muse import Lightroom Photo Gallery's web pages?
Or, Is there a widget to do this?

So your saying import a Gallery from Lightroom using Muse's slideshow widget, which ignores titles/descriptions?
I'm finding it very difficult to understand why Muse would not use this information as it clearly shows the File Names in Asssets.
The workflow seems simple: Take A picture, Bring it into Lightroom, Adjust and enter WHAT it is with Titles and Descriptions, use it ALL in a website.
    I've got some 500 photos.
Re-entering Titles/Description information everytime it's used in a website is not something anybody should have to do.
Please help, there has to be a better way to do this.
I'm eager to buy Adobe's product to do this if it can be done.
Adobe is too smart to leave out something so simple with MUSE.

  • Moving LR5 catalog (Irdata & Ircat) to a new hard drive and photos. Lost all meta data - How do I move meta data along with catalog?

I moved LR5 catalog (Irdata & Ircat) to a new hard drive and photos. Lost all meta data - How do I move meta data along with catalog?
The meta data for each image is missing.
I have over 2,000 images. I don't want to go back through each image and add meta data.
Is there some way to move everything?

No, do not re-import your images. I assume you can see the thumbnails in the library module, just cannot access the full images, right? If this is the case there should be an exclamation mark in the top right corner of every one of your pictures and you only have to tell LR where the images are now.
Click the exclamation mark of one of the images and a dialog window should pop-up, telling you that LR cannot find the file, but with an option to locate it. Press "Locate" and navigate to the folder on your new HD where the file is. If in the new external HD you kept the same folder structure that you had on the internal disk, LR will be able to find all your images and re-link them to the database without further intervention.

  • How does one strip out all Live Cycle data from a PDF and rebuild the form fields in Acrobat?

Someone in a different department built a bunch of forms in Live Cycle. We now need to make minor edits to these forms but we all have Macs and can't use Live Cycle. Currently our only option to change a date and a name on each form  is to buy a new Windows workstation, buy a copy of Live Cycle and train someone for it.
I understand the Live Cycle technology and Acrobat technology for forms are somehow different but there must be a way to just strip out all the Live Cycle form programming so that I just have the bare PDF with the text and layout.  Then make the text edits and rebuild the form fields in Acrobat.

It depends on your PDF. Is the PDF a static XFA or a dynamic XFA?
You can check to see if the PDF is static/dynamic by clicking File=>Save As, and it should say static or dynamic PDF as file type.
iText will work with Static XFA forms created in LiveCycle. Dynamic XFA forms are not supported.
You can also submit XML data to a server side script and parse the XML data using C# system.xml.xmlreader.
Another tool that may speed the development of the project is:
    http://www.fdftoolkit.net/
    Note: FDFToolkit.net utilizes iText Technologies.

  • Best Practice for attaching Meta Data, Organizing & Archiving Photos

I am about to start the daunting task of organizing and archiving ALL of my photos so that I can access them from an external hard drive (or two) when I need them. I want to know/understand the best way to do this before I start so that thousands of hours later I don't realize that I have not considered something critical. I have already spent hours trying to find this information online to no satisfactory avail. I have both iPhoto ('09 v8.1.2) and Aperture 3, which I am just learning to use. I am wanting to back up to my WD My Book. I have already transferred some pictures and realized that, though I had them nicely organized in Albums in iPhoto, that information doesn't transfer over to the My Book so the file names are unrecognizable as any type of descriptor. I believe that I need to assign some Meta Data (?) to each photo so that I can do searches to find particular people or subjects when needed.
Here are all of the things I want/need to know:
    1. Which Mac program would be best to accomplish attaching MetaData or adjusting file names: iPhoto or Aperture 3?
    2. What is the best way to attach MetaData to pictures so that the information is permanent? Tagging (allowing multiple search options)? Batch Name Change (allowing limited search capabilities)? Other?
    a. If I TAG all of my photos and then try to use that information outside of iPhoto or Aperture 3 (from the external HD) will it still be accessible for searches?
    3. After attaching all of this information, what do I need to know about transferring the photos to an external HD? Are there multiple copies of the same photo (original, edited) and if so, are both transferred? Are they both deleted when I move the pictures to the trash?
    4. Is there anything else that I need to know??
Your expertise would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

You are trying to defeat the photo management of iPhoto - My suggestion is to learn iPhoto and use it of choose another program - iPhoto does not work well unless it manages the entire library and you access it using the tools build into the OS - click here for a discussion on the many correct and safe ways to access your iPhoto library photos.
Aperture may or may not be a better choice - try the Aperture forum for detailed info
Backing up iPhoto is trivial - simply drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to another hard drive - or use an incremental backup program to do it as changes are made - I use Time Machine to one backup drive and SuperDuper to another
I believe that I need to assign some Meta Data (?) to each photo so that I can do searches to find particular people or subjects when needed.
This is an integral part of iPhoto and one of its strengths
    1. Which Mac program would be best to accomplish attaching MetaData or adjusting file names: iPhoto or Aperture 3?
iPhoto does a great job of this - file names are only adjusted when you export - and there is no need for them to be adjusted within the iPhoto library since you never should be going into it directly and never need to see the files directly
    2. What is the best way to attach MetaData to pictures so that the information is permanent?
    Exporting from iPhoto
    Tagging (allowing multiple search options)?
Using iPhoto and the OS tools
Batch Name Change (allowing limited search capabilities)?
    Done during export if desired
    Other?
    Depends
    a. If I TAG all of my photos and then try to use that information outside of iPhoto or Aperture 3 (from the external HD) will it still be accessible for searches?
In iPhoto yes so long as you are not going directly into the iPhoto library but are using the provided tools
    3. After attaching all of this information, what do I need to know about transferring the photos to an external HD?
Simply drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the EHD - the database is a single entity and it will be the same there (so long as the EHD is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled)
Are there multiple copies of the same photo (original, edited) and if so, are both transferred?
    Yes - Yes
Are they both deleted when I move the pictures to the trash?
You do not move photos to the trash - you select them in iPhoto and press the delete key then empty the iPhoto trash (iPhoto menu ==> empty iPhoto trash)
    4. Is there anything else that I need to know??
Lots - if you are going to use iPhoto stop thinking of managing files and start thinking of using a SQL database which is what iPhoto is -- otherwise you need to use a different program

  • Adding a custom meta data field which lists out content id based on query

How can we add a custom meta data filed which lists out content id based on query like dDocType <matches> `AssociatedProduct`?
Or other alternative would be to have a custom metadata field such that it allows selection of content id using link wizard which we typically use in site studio. It would be preferable to have this second option as it is user friendly. Can we do this on a check-in screen?

    Thanks for the reply Deepak.
We got it resolved. We did following changes in /ucm/custom/SiteStudio/resources/ss_custom_field_resources.htm file and it worked cleanly.
Added following section at the end before body tag

  • Changing meta data of a photo

Is there a way to alter the meta data of a photo taken with my digital camera and imoorted into iPhoto?
I took photos whilst in Singapore but forgot to change the time on my camera to Singapore time, GMT+8hrs. I also took some photos on my phone camera, which did have the correct time. Consequently, when I imported photos from both devices, the chronological order is messed up. I need to change the time data of the digital camera files to correct the sequence.

In iPhoto select the photos with the incorrect date/time and go to the photos menu ==> change date and time
give it the correct information for the first photo and it will automatically correct all of them to the correct date and time
You can select modify original photo if that is what you want

  • Stripping out data from unstructured documents

I have hundreds of word and html documents that I need to strip out certain information. The html docs are completely unstructured. The word documents may or may not have the same structure. How can I leverage PL/SQL to extract out the data that I need? I have seen scripts where using PL/SQL you can give a byte position number. This may work for extracting out some of the data if positioned in the same place but I am looking to simplify the process and get the right information out in one pass. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not necessarily looking for an exact answer but rather information that can lead me in the right direction. Of course the exact answer wouldn't hurt.

I read all of the thread for that particular post and I still don't believe I have what I need.
Maybe it is the instr function that you wanted me to look at and maybe not. I just don't know how I would use that to extract data.
What I am looking to do is to use some kind of PL/SQL statement to extract a unique identifier that will be in the document, dates that the document was created or appended, and then some region numbers. So can I use instr to find a value from each document, hold it in a flat file and then import this information back into the database? The value of course will be different in every document.
These files are currently not in a database. I am trying to get this information out of the document to store as metadata for each document. Am I looking at the right way to do this using PL/SQL or is there some other method of data extraction that I should consider

  • LR is using meta data from previous edited photos on new imports

LR is using meta data from previous edited photos on new imports-
When I am importing new photos to a new catalog LightRoom gave all the photo settings that I had used on a previous catalogs photo I had to delete the catalog because I could not find an answer anywhere. Tried the deleteing and importing 3 times with same result.
Once I did Start another new catalog and pressed reset on everything I could find it worked.
What can I do if this happens again? Anybody know what setting that involves?

On the right side of the Import screen, there's a heading "Apply during import". (If it doesn't show, right-click on the panel on the right and choose it from the menu.) One of its sub-fields is Metadata. That field and the Keywords field below it, I think are "sticky". You need to make sure that they contain the metadata that you want applied in your current import.
It's almost always a bad idea to delete your catalogue or re-import images. Both those things fall at the very end of possible remedies because they cost you a lot of work, and there are almost always cheaper ways of solving your problem.

  • Stripping out mail header photo

    Hi Folks,
I assume others have run into this problem: MSN Windows Live Hotmail rejects your email, apparently because it considers the little account id photo that Mail inserts on the right side of the mail header as some kind of deadly Trojan Horse vector. Does any bright spark out there know how to strip out that photo in Mail (3.6)? I was hoping to get lucky with "Make Plain Text", but no joy. I've looked through every menu I could find and see no place to change that setting. Thanks in advance!

That little picture isn't sent out with any of your outgoing mail; not in the header, not as an attachment, not by any other method. Apple's mail program just displays it there when you read the messages in your Sent box; it never leaves your computer. So the problem you are having with Hotmail must be because of something else.
You might want to start a new thread here with a more detailed description of what the problem is. Put "Windows Live Hotmail" in the subject line , so users with experience and knowledge about that will be more likely to see it and give you a helpful response.
