Photo Numbering and Unique device identifiers

Setup:
I have two Iphone 5s, an Ipad, 2 Ipad minis and an Ipod all on the same account. The family travels and we take a ton of photos. The great thing (So Far) has been all the photos taken, regardless of the device, all come back to a central location; the House PC via Photo Stream.
Situation:
As we have been amassing more and more photos I built a NAS and through Windows' Scheduler and Synctoy, wake the PC up every few days and move any NEW photos taken from the PhotoStream folder to the NAS at which point a copy of the files are then mirrored to offsite storage.
Problem:
During a recent vacation two of the devices' photo numbers caught up with photo numbers that were pre-existing on the NAS. When those photos were copied from the PC to the NAS they overwrote earlier photos. (Luckily I had selected an option that saves any overwritten photos to the Recycle Bin. So we lost nothing).
Question:
Is there a way to change the Idevice numbering system or better yet make them alphanumeric in order to prevent this problem from re-occurring. I have looked across the web for this information and found a few possible solutions but wanted to get something more definitive before I go digging around in the devices.

'Once booted I need the script to hold for period of about an hour.' - well then, save the script as a 'stay open' application, with an 'on idle () ... end idle' handler - with a return of (60 * 60) seconds; and then drag the saved application onto the 'System Preferences' 'Accounts' 'Login Items' tab's list - of the user which the Mac will boot to (when turned ON).

Unique device identifier (uuid) before enrollment?

Hello,
Does there exist a way to get the Unique Device Id (uuid) or any other identifier for that matter before (Certificate) enrollment?
My use case is that I'd like to check if a device was already enrolled and I cannot find a way to do that, because I don't know what to base that criteria on. We only get the (uuid) after the workspace setup is complete.
Any ideas?

I'll have a look on that, although I'm not sure whether the MAC would really help.
We are using Federated auth policy with a WAB that implements some specific authentication routines like unique token generation, verification, etc. What we basically want to do is to show a notification to the user during the WAB step, if a device has already
been enrolled or not. Also we have a case where we don't want certain previously enrolled devices to be enrolled again. There's no problem to post a query to our SyncML server, but we have no way of knowing which device is sending that query.

Is there a way to delete photos from the photo stream without deleting all the photos OR is there a way to send photos from photo stream to my camera roll?

Deleting a photo from your photo stream album will delete it from your photo stream and all devices connected to your photo stream. However, you can save photo stream photos to your camera roll first by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Edit, tapping the photos, tapping Share, then tapping Save to Camera Roll.

Thanks for the question. When it comes to iPhone, very little is stored on the SIM card. Contacts, Photos, etc can be backed up with iTunes or iCloud and then transferred to a new device. For information on how to do so, see this resource:

Thanks but that doesn't give me the information I need. I am putting an email on my ipod for people to contact me for iMessage and FaceTime but when I put the email in, it gives me an error saying that the email cannot be veirified because it is already in use. My Apple ID can be varified, just not the email that they will contact me with.

We need to be able to have her working on the photos on her computer with her copy of LR and me on my computer with my version of LR being able to access what is already tagged and given back to me. This seems hard. We need advice on if it is at all possible to have two computers simultaneously working on LR . Sounds like your assistant isn't instructing Lightroom to write the tagging and editing to the files themselves, so wehn the files return to you, they don't have editing and tagging information. She need to select the photos in Lightroom and then Ctrl-S (Cmd-S on Mac). Or alternatively turn on the option to autmoatically write this information to the files.
If you are using RAW photos, then this information will be written to a sidecar XMP file, and your assistant must provide you with the sidecar file. If these photos are not RAW photos, then the information is written directly into the photo file itself.
Lightroom wasn't designed to be a multi-user program, and so it is truly not possible to have two people working on the same catalog at once. The way you are doing things, as modified above, is probably the way to go.
As an alternative, you can transfer (portions of) catalogs as well as photos back and forth and then all of these issues disappear, but a catalog might be rather large for a flash drive (or maybe not, it depends)

You didn't import all of your pics regularly? Particularly before an update?
They may very well be gone.
You can try restoring from backup.

"Other" includes data such as contact information and photos assigned to contacts, calendar events, Safari bookmarks/cookies/history, notes created with the Notes application, SMS messages, email stored locally or cached, and 3rd party application data created and stored by the application.
If "other" is more than say .75GB at the most, you had a corrupt sync. Try syncing again and if the problem persists, the recognized fix for this is to restore your iPad.

Thanks for this, I have checked the dates in case the camera settings had been lost unfortunatly in this instance all pics are dated in correct order but not transferred in date order, or date modified order, or is the date config based on US date atyle?

Try deleting the old backup.
Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the device name and on the resulting screen, scroll down and tap on Delete Backup.

Generally I would not use Facebook for sharing any photos, it compresses the photos substantially, and when you have shadows and dark colours you get visible "bands" where there should be subtle gradients, ie at sunsets and sunrises.
It sounds like you are using two methods to upload to Facebook:
1. Sharing from within Aperture, which basically syncs Facebook with your Aperture album, so any changes made at either end gets synced, hence the deletions from Albums, although the original file should still be in your library, just removed rom the album. It is like a playlist in iTunes.
2. Exporting pics and uploading to Facebook from the browser.
I am not sure how method 1 gets compressed, but I know that uploading hi-res jpegs to Facebook using method 2 results in poor quality images.
I wouldn't even bother comparing option 1 or 2, and they will both be poor images once you view them on Facebook, as opposed to viewing uploaded images on proper image sharing / hosting sites.
Your problem is not with Aperture, it is using Facebook for showing your work.
If you export pics form Aperture at high res jpegs or TIFFs your images will be fine.
If you insist to use Facebook as your way to share your work, then your workflow should be this:
1. Right click images you want to share.
2. Select Export version.
3. Export as 100% size and ensure the export settings are set at 100% quality.
4. Upload this pic into Facebook.
This will get you the best image size and resolution on Facebook.
See how you go.

The update process DOES back up contacts and photos, unless you interrupted the backup. The manual tells you to sync contacts to an app on your computer, and to import photos regularly to your computer. So Apple DID tell you to back up, you just didn't bother to read it.
If you didn't sync yet (and even if you did) connect the phone to your computer, right click on its name, and choose "Restore from Backup". If there's more than one backup choose the one with a timestamp before you updated.

I am wanting to import photos from my imac to my ipad. the help page directed me to open the photo button under the device listing on itunes. There is not a photo button and I am connected to the computer. It does show buttons for books, movies, etc.

If you connect and select your iPad on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, on the right-hand side of iTunes (not on the left) there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos - if you select that tab you can then select which photo folders or albums/events to sync to the iPad. There is a bit more info on this page. You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next photo sync.
