Photo organization in ios8

Prior to ios8 I "stored" my photos on the camera roll on my ipad2 and deleted my photos from my iPhone to clear storage space and to simplify organization. I could take photos on the phone and then go to the iPad and save the keepers to the camera roll. Then I could clear the photostream for the next batch of photos. Now when I delete a photo on the phone it is deleted everywhere.  Is there a way to save photos in one place and then clear the photostream?  The Apple Store said to use dropbox!  Apple should not need a third party app to accomplish a simple task. any suggestions?

  • PHOTO SORTING AFTER IOS8 - PROBLEM SOLVED

Like everyone else, after IOS8 Event sorting on both my iPhone & iPad were all mucked up... I couldn't find anything! I happened upon a "fix" in the Apple store that has saved me hours and hours of using an alternative photo organizer. It's so simple and sorts my events (with the pictures I already have downloaded on each device). The program is SMART PHOTO ORGANIZER by Backpackr. No, I don't work for Apple or the software developer, but just wanted to share a solution that's cheap and works GREAT for me!!!

Hi, P/Booth has been an issue at times. Thankfully you found the solution,,Well Done.
Remember though sometimes it is the initial ? that may need re editing....L

  • My computer updated to Windows 8.1 and now photo organizer won't open in my Elements 12.

Windows automatically updated to 8.1 and now, the Elements 12 that I bought to work with windows 8 won't load the Photo Organizer at all.

I  have exactly the same problem!
I am attempting to run Photoshop Elements 9 Organizer on a Windows 8.1 OS and have entered the "DirectX is installed but cannot be initialized" HELL!  Per the suggestions of many, many other users apparently residing in this HELL with me I have a) clicked "off" and reclicked "on" the "Turn Windows Feature On & Off / Legacy Systems / Direct Play" option and b) verified that "Windows / System 32 / quartz.dll" seems to be a legitimate file at 1.49MB and c) rebooted my computer so many times my boots are getting worn out and d) uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop Elements twice.  Does anyone here have any other suggestion or fixes for this apparently common and widespread Adobe problem that renders Photoshop Elements about 50% unusable?  Thanks.

  • Photo organization in iPhoto

I am a new Mac user from PC. I have used ACDSee as a photo organizer on the PC. All my photos are organized simply in folders with subfolders and sub-subfolders. I cannot see anyway to have a similar organization in iphoto, nor can I find a third party software similar to ACDSee for the Mac. Anybody have any suggestions/solutions? Thanks!

iPhoto has two principle organisation methods: Events and Albums.
Events are very basic and unsophisticated: they are based solely on date and time. The advantage is that this is automatic. For my money, Events are for folks who don't want to organise their pics.
Albums are where the database in iPhoto shines. You can create albums easily, put them into folders, nest folders of albums inside other folders. Add keywords to the mix and you can create smart albums and use them in the same way as other albums.
all photos (now residing in finder) were orgainized into categories with subcategories (i.e. a certain trip with subfolders showing different aspects of the trip, or photos of my family with a subcategory for different family members/pets.)
    Some methods to approach this:
    1. Start at the bottom of your folder hierarchy and drag a folder of images to the Source (or left hand) pane in iPhoto. iPhoto will create an album (and Event) of the pics. File -> New Folder and name it. Drag the album to the Folder... in this way you can quickly re-create the system you have now in iPhoto.
    2. Import the pics and keyword them. Use a Who, What, Where basis. John and Mary at the swimming will yield: John, Mary, Sea, Swimming, for instance, perhaps the name of the Beach too. Doing this you can easily find all the pics you have of
    John (alone)
    John (with Mary)
    John (Swimming, alone, with Mary)
    John not swimming
    Sea
    Mary (alone)... and so on...
Add ratings, and you can quickly create albums of
    All you Favourites
    Your Favourites of John
Your favourites of Mary... and so on
You can save these into Smart Albums. (File -> New Smart Album, there are a wealth of criteria available for making Smart Albums)
Then the real plus: A single pic can be in 1, 10 or 100 albums with no wasted disk space. Albums reference the file on the HD.
This organisational power is the advantage of iPhoto. Along with preserving your original pics, lossless editing, books, calendars, slideshow and the integration throughout the Operating System.

    TD

  • Photo Organizer app

Hi, can anyone recommend a photo organizer app they have used (particularly since the IOS6 update).   I know about Photo Manager Pro but I just want a simple app that allows me to put my photos in folders and there are tons of apps but can anyone recommend one in particular?
I guess with Photo Manager Pro, and some others that are similar, it duplicates your photos increasing space used and also makes it difficult to delete a photo from camera roll.  All I want to do is put my photos in folders.
    Thanks.

After importing all my photos to Photo Manager Pro, I deleted everything in Camera Roll.
    There's no duplication.
Note: My photos were originally transferred to Camera Roll using the Camera Connection Kit; no problem deleting them.

  • Import images into Photoshop Elements Photo Organizer from Safari

    Hi,
I recently bought Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 for Mac. Safari is my default browser. I wonder, has anyone seen an extension or add-on to Apple Safari 5.0 that creates a context dialog that would allow one to import an image from a web page into the Adobe Elements 9 Photo Organizer. Currently, the process of importing into Adobe Photoshop Elements Photo Organizer is both elaborate and tedious. Alternatively, am I simply unaware of some simple drag and drop method to import an image from the web into Photoshop Elements 9 Photo Organizer?

    Hi Jack
It’s just not possible on the MAC even with the better Firefox open source Web Browser.

  • Photo cleanup after ios8 migration

I have an iPhone 5 running ios8, and a macbook laptop running OSX 10.9.5
Even before the migration away from camera roll, my iPhoto library on my mac was problematic. I was also running the iPhoto app on my iphone. A lot of times when I backed up to my mac, I would end up with duplicate photos, so I bought Duplicate Annihilator and have used it a couple of times.
So I think I am not backing up the photos correctly, which to me, is the most important stuff on my phone.
Now that I've migrated to "Photos" my photo library is a hot mess. The photos are all out of order, jumbled together, I can't find anything, and there are photos missing or unfindable in Photo that I have written off as gone forever, but when I open another app to attach a photo, the correct photo sometimes turns up there. Also I have photo albums that are empty that I cannot delete.
Ideally, what I would like to do is move every single photo and album out of my phone completely, organize them all using iPhoto (or maybe even Lightroom at this point since iPhoto's organization is a bit counter-intuitive anyway and if the iPhone doesn't play nice with it, then I may not even want to use it anymore), and then upload certain photos back into "Photos" on my phone.
And then moving forward, when I take a photo on my phone, I would like it backed up to my mac once only. Or iCloud, I'm not super-fussed about which way, the nightly iCloud backup is easier, but at some point I need to import the photos onto my Mac, correct?
but I clearly have gone off the rails somewhere about how best to back up to avoid duplications. I don't want to lose anything, I prefer to manage the photo deletions from my mac vs. my phone.
I don't need any fancy family sharing or anything like that, just a simple way to get this stuff organized and stay that way! And I can't seem to find any info on that for post-iOS8.
Sorry for the long complicated post. I spent most of last might trying to fix it and I couldn't get anything to work. Maybe I should back up and wipe my phone completely at this point? (shudder)

If you don't need the items you've identified in either of those two folders, it is safe to remove them. Items in your home folder are generally safe to remove unless they are in use by an open application or process.

  • Very old photos reappeared after ios8 update on iphone 5

i am using iphone 5 A1428 ios 7.1.2, backed it up then did a full restore and updated it to ios8.1, everything worked fine until i checked my photos app, pictures that i have deleted long ago some of them dated from 2012 reappeared, i don't want to go all over my 3000 pictures to delete all the unnecessary photos, any idea what to do to fix this!
should i try to restore my backup one more time ?

I had the same problem.  Fortunately, before I upgraded to iOS8 I backed up my iPad to my computer using iTunes, including the non-iOS8 version of Numbers.
I deleted the iOS8 version, Numbers 2.4.2, and restored the older version via my iTunes backup.  Now everything works fine.

  • Best Photo Organizer?

Relatively new to Macs but have gone in with both feet and replaced all PCs in the house.
Was using Kodak Gallery - now iPhoto but iPhoto has a ton of limitations.
Ideally I would like to set up a photo repository that could be accessed by all Macs in the house. Would Adobe's PS Elements Organizer allow me to set up a central location to store locally photos (say on a time capsule) - when logging into Adobe's PS Elements Organizer on any of the Macs (on the network) it would point to this device so all Photo Organizers on each PC would be the same? And then could these photos be backed up to Adobe's online presence automatically (I realize it comes with 20GB but would have to pay for more)?
    If not, any recomendations?

No, PSE won't do that. There are many, many other digital asset management programs you can look into, though. Adobe carousel is a subscription service, so you pay and pay. I think you are going to have to split the time capsule and the cloud, though. In other words, find a program you like for use on the network drive and then set that for backup to an online service.

  • Photo organization, navigation and sequencing limitations

After solving my initial problem getting my Aperture library to synch (albums and previews are required to see photos), I've synched several thousand images to AppleTV. While the photos look great on HDTV, I'm already hoping that V1.x of the AppleTV software addresses some serious limitations and frustrations when dealing with photo libraries. Otherwise in terms of photo libraries, AppleTV will be relegated to being a gorgeous screen saver.
The first problem/frustration - as I believe has been noted in previous postings - is that photos are not presented in the same sequence as they are organized in Aperture albums. This is obviously a very significant functional deficiency when attempting to use AppleTV to deliver some sort of "story" based on the photos.
Furthermore, the albums themselves appear on the AppleTV menu in a somewhat random order. It's already clear that it is important to not just synch AppleTV to the photos themselves, but also to the organization established in the Aperture (or iPhoto) library. The AppleTV menu must be able to replicate the sequencing/ordering plus nesting of folders in the master library, plus replicate the specific ordering of the display of photos within folders.
One deficiency of the current AppleTV V1.0 stands out very starkly because it contrasts so markedly with the overall beautiful design and engineering of the product: When a music playlist is associated with the slideshow display of a photo album, the music will abruptly and harshly stop when the slideshow ends. Even the early versions of iPhoto would carefully and elegantly fade out the music at the end of a slideshow when the timing of the photo displays is arbitrary.
Of course a VERY welcome addition to the slideshow functionality would be the capability to match the timing of the display of individual photos in an album to the length of the playlist associated with the album. This is a standard feature in iPhoto ("Fit slideshow to music" option) and would really make a difference in the use of AppleTV for showcasing photos.

Please take this as a suggestion not as a solution, I don't have aperture and don't know how it works, it seems to me though that organisation is slighty better in iphoto than it appears to be in aperture. Although I agree it's not so good in iphoto, I'm convinced it will get better though.
I've found it a far better experience when my photos are 16:9 and so have duplicated my existing photos and am in the process of creating new albums just for use with tv. This makes an already busy iphoto even busier, if I had aperture I would use iphoto for tv only. At least the albums and the photos within them would display in the order you wanted and you would reduce some of the clutter..

  • Ipad2 photos sync issue ios8.1.1

I have an 64GB iPad2.  I normally sync my photos from iTunes on my PC. I have about 27,000 photos.  My iPad was experiencing slowness issues since upgrading to iOS8.1.  Today I updated to 8.1.1.
Photo sync from my PC is not working correctly.
It creates the required folders, but the content is empty.
I've closed all apps on the iPad, shut it down, rebooted.
    I've rebooted the PC.
I've unchecked all the selected folders to sync.  It successfully deleted all photos. (grrrrr)
I've tried changing the selected directory in iTunes from which to sync on the PC to one that only has a 1000 or so photos.
It creates the directory on the PC, but it's empty.
I get en error message "The iPad "XXXX's iPad" could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish."
Ideas?  If I go to the Genius bar, I won't have my PC.

I assume that you mean that the photo folders sync to the iPad but there is nothing in the folders.

That is how it is supposed to work. But I think that you know that. Surely you didn't expect to sync empty folders and have photos appear on the iPad if they were not in the folders that you synced. Maybe I am missing something and if I am please clarify for me.

Once again, I assume that you mean that you created another folder of photos with 1000 or so photos in it. If you created another photos folder, the photos have to reside in that folder or there is nothing to sync. this could be another case where I am misunderstanding ....
I get en error message "The iPad "XXXX's iPad" could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish."
Ideas?  If I go to the Genius bar, I won't have my PC.
Have you tried quitting iTunes, rebooting your PC and then reset the iPad and try again - after you get this message? Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

  • Where are my photos after installing ios8?

  • Unzip photos, Organize in  Album, Rezip.

All I want to do is unzip a folder of photos import into camera roll album reorganize and zip it so people can see the new organized photos. Why can't I do this? The only thing I have found is.
    1.Import zip file into iUnarchive.
2.Export to what they call "Gallery" but is really the default camera roll.
    3. Create and album in Photo App.
    4. Put photos in the album.
    5. Organize Photos.
    6. Import photos in new order into Good Reader.
    7. Zip Photos.
Then if someone wants to open the file and put the photos on their ipad in the camera roll. They would need to have iUnarchive and it destroys the organization.
    Instead of
    Picture 1.jpg
    Picture 2.jpg
    Picture 3.jpg
    Picture 4.jpg
    Picture 10.jpg
    It looks like
    Picture 1.jpg
    Picture 10.jpg
    Picture 11.jpg
    Picture 2.jpg
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Advice On Proper Photo Organization?

I have been a careless iPhoto user over the years -- dump pictures off the camera, scan the odd snapshot, import images from the web or email, ...
All my photos are "organized" (I guess) by date and into events I (sometimes) name.  The photos all have the original filename -- something like "IMG_20150306_154423"  I've got no tags, no faces, no places, ...
    Okay -- now my question.
I have a pile of old family photos -- some digital, many to be scanned from prints -- that I'd like to organize properly once and for all.
Any advice?  Any good resources you can recommend? ...  Is iPhoto good enough for the task or should I invest in a "fancier" app like Adobe Lightroom or some such.
I'm using iPhoto 9.5.1 and have not upgraded to Yosemite and so the newest iPhoto but I could if you think it worthwhile.
    Thanks

Fair warning - I just upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.3 and lost all of my organization from iPhoto.
Not all of it.  Open the sidebar, Option+Command+S, and look inside the folder titled "iPhoto Albums".  Moments in Photo art the new Events.  There's a way to simulate events in Photos.
When the library was first migrated there was a folder created titled iPhoto Events and all migrated iPhoto Events are represented by an album in the folder. To open the sidebar if it's not open use the Option+Command+S key combination.
When new photos are imported into the Photos library go to the Last Import smart album, select all the photos and use the File ➙ New Album menu option or use the key combination Command+N.  Name it as desired.  It will appear just above the iPhoto Events folder where you can drag it into the folder
When you click on the iPhoto Events folder you'll get a simulated iPhoto Events window.
You can continue using iPhoto until the system no longer supports it or until Photos gets updated to where it's not so dumbed down.
