Photo Page - Clicking on thumbnail launches slideshow

Let me preface this by say that I'm using iWeb without a .mac account and just publishing to my Sites folder.
Whenever I create a photo page, the thumbnails that I click automatically launch a slideshow window. I've seen a bunch of iWeb example sites where clicking on the thumbnail image pops open a window with the just larger sized image (which is what I would like to happen).
Can I not do this b/c I'm not using .mac, or is there something else that I'm missing?
Thanks for any help!

That's it exactly. This Knowledge Base document spells it out. Excerpt: 'iWeb Photo pages published to .Mac have special controls and other features that are not available when publishing to a folder. To take full advantage of iWeb's slideshows, publish your photo pages to .Mac.'
What you're seeing is the old HomePage behaviour. Check out this post if you'd like to use an excellent alternative slideshow.

  • I've been using Iphoto as a primary download program for years. As of today, when I click a thumbnail to open the photo, I get a black screen with an exclamation mark on some shots. Also, these shots can't be dragged into Adobe Bridge. Would love help!

I use Iphoto as my primary download tool, then drag images into Adobe Bridge. Just today, when I tried to open a photo by clicking a thumbnail, all I got was an image of an exclamation mark and I couldn't drag the shot either. These are images I've successfully opened and dragged before. I would love guidance from anyone who knows a fix for this. Thanks!  John

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    What version of iPhoto?
As Larry says, your workflow doesn't make a whole lot of sense. If you're using iPhoto only for downloading then you're best off using Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) and just keep the whole database element out if it. If you're using iPhoto also to organise, then what are you using Bridge for? Anything you do in Bridge - or Photoshop - is unavailable in iPhoto if you work this way.

  • IPhoto09 v 8.1.2 Problem- Double clicking on thumbnail results in glimpse of photo and changes to ! with black background.  No photo, no slideshow.

    iPhoto09 v 8.1.2
Double clicking on thumbnail results in glimpse of photo before changing to  !  with a black background.
    No photo, no slideshow.

That indicates that the iPhoto database has lost the connection to the high resolution photo - if you have not made any changes to the library (like cleaning uyp, deleting using thrid party software or form the all images list) then rebuilding will probably resolve it - Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto database

    hi everyone,
problem with the thumbnail on the photo page, it shows 3-5 out of 20s thumbnails(only show photo's names) on other browser except Safair.
on mac, safari works, thumbnail, slideshow work.
on mac, Firefox 1.5, thumbnail won't works, but slideshow works.
on PC, IE, thumbnail won't works, but slideshow.
    Anyone have this experiences? thanks!

On Mac, all my browsers work, Camino, Firefox, Safari.
On Windows the best solution is Firefox.
IE is really less than average with handling some graphic files.

  • Is there a way add thumbnails or slideshow to my "About Me" page

Is there a way to add a slideshow or thumbnails that will enlarge when you click on them to my "About Me" page?
I'm looking to insert about 6 photos on the "About Me" page, again that will either expand or if I have to, start a slide show.
    thanks

Here's what you can do to make a quick slideshow launch from any page...
Make a new Photo page with the photos that you want in your slideshow. Open the Inspector and click over to the Page tab. Uncheck the box "include page in navigation menu" so that the page is "hidden" from your viewers.
The on your AboutMe page or any other page you'd like to link the slideshow from... select the object you would like to attach the slideshow hyperlink to. Then open up the Inspector Hyperlink tab. Click the box to "enable as hyperlink" And under link to: select "external URL". In the URL box you will have to enter the direct link for the slideshow which should be the following format...
    http://web.mac.com/username/iWeb/sitename/photopage_files/slideshow.html
username = your .Mac account username
    sitename = your site name
photopage = name of your hidden photo page
When clicked on a new window will open up with the slideshow and users will never see your photo page (unless you want them to).
Try this out. I think you will like the overall effect.
Let me know if you run into any roadblocks.

  • Only an exclamation point shows up when I click a thumbnail in my iphoto folder. Is there any way to recover these photos by using the thumbnails?

Only an exclamation point shows up when I click a thumbnail in my iphoto folder. Is there any way to recover these photos by using the thumbnails? Please help. Thanks!

That exclamation mark is displayed when iPhoto cannot link to the original file.  First make sure you are running a "managed" library by checking iPhoto's Advanced preference pane to make sure the checkbox to copy files into the library during import is checked.
If it is checked you can try the following: make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Can a Photo page be used as thumbnail links to movie pages?

I've made a photo page with say 20 or so photo thumbnails. I have made separate movie pages for each movie. Dragged each movie page link to the related picture on the photo page and sized the button to be the same size as the thumbnail image. Checked that the button is linking to the correct movie page.
In iWeb, when I "make links active", everything works properly. But once it's uploaded, the thumbnails/buttons, when clicked, open up a new browser window with just the jpg thumbnail.
Any ideas to get this to work? Or do I have to start over, and lay it all out maually?

I think the problem may be related to the Photo page template. When you click on the thumbnail, I think there is some built-in functionality to open a new slideshow window or something.
Instead of using the Photo gallery template, try using a plain page...one of the templates with as few elements as possible...maybe the movie template. Then manually add your movie thumbnails and size them to your liking. then add the hyperlinks to your movie pages to each thumbnail. I think you might find that this works better.

  • How can I create only thumbnails photo page without larger photo

Is there a way to create photo page without the larger photo?

I wonder if you can use a photo template page to drop your photos into and then just leave off the slideshow button. I wonder if that will disable the click to enlarge photo function or if it just affects the slideshow stuff.
Otherwise, you could manually make your thumbnails page...like a contact sheet.
    1. Use something like iPhoto to export photos scaled down to thumbnail size, like 100x133, into a folder on the desktop
    2. Drag and drop thumbnails from this folder into iWeb using blank template page.
    3. select all the thumbnails, open up the Inspector ruler tab, click on "Use orignal size".
    4. Arrange thumbnails in desired order and position on page.
This is a complete manual job. I don't know if there is any other way besides disabling the slideshow function. I would probably live with the "click to enlarge" function over making a contact sheet by hand.

  • Slideshow Pop Up WITHOUT the Photo Page

    Hi,
I would like to skip a step when using iWeb to display photos. When you drag in a photo album a thumbnail image is creating on the page, then a photo page detailing all the photos and a description of the contents etc is created.
When the user clicks the small thumbnail picture of the photo they are taken to the photo page - I however would like to skip that step and for the slideshow popup to appear instead.
I have tried to copy and paste the slideshow button link that is present in the photo page but it wont let me. Any ideas how I can achieve this?
    Thanks,
    Will

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can't go to the slideshow by itself. Cyclosaurus explains it in this topic: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9083483&#9083483
If you want a slideshow in a new window from a text based or image hyperlink you will need to use a flash type of slideshow. It would be something like this: Like This.
There are a lot of different types of flash presentations. These are just a few:
Flash Album Exporter Postcard and AutoViewer Slideshow Themes
    SimpleViewer and Flash Album Exporter
    Jalbum
Another method is to create a streaming movie of the slideshow and add it as in this demo page so when the thumbnail is clicked on it will open in a new window and begin playing: Opening Item in a New, Precisely Sized Window

  • Slideshow NOT on Photo page

Is it possible in iWeb 08? I want to have a slideshow available on my Welcome page and not have to force visitors to click to another page to see it. In an ideal world, I'd want to have a video as well: am I limited to only having such media on the template pages dedicated to each media type? This is kind of a deal breaker for my site . . . Thanks for any guidance!

No. Even though you can copy and past the thumbnail box with the slideshow from a photos page to a welcome page when you publish the graphic files used for the forward, back and other controls of the page do not get carried over. Also I found that the slideshow window didn't size properly to include the thumbnail tray at the bottom. This is what I ended up with for a quick demo: Modern Theme Welcome page with photo page contents pasted into it.
Why not use a flash based slideshow on the welcome page. Here are a number of examples that can be added and scaled to suit your needs:
    SimpleViewer and Flash Album Exporter
Flash Album Exporter Postcard and AutoViewer Slideshow Themes
Jalbum - there are over 100 skins/themes for Jalbum. It's free

  • How do I create photo page with blow up images on click?

I need some help trying to create a web page of photo thumbnails with blow-up larger images:
    1) I want to create a contact sheet type of web page of multiple photo thumbnails.
    2) When you click the photo it opens into a small window or "blow-up" version of the thumbnail. (Clicking the thumbnail does NOT take you to a new page with the full size image).
    3) The blow-up photo has a circle and X that will close the blow-up window.
I've already figured out how create pages of thumbnails that will take you to a new page with the full size image. I'm trying to create the effect where you never leave the main page, the thumbnails just blow-up into small windows that can be closed again.
Apple uses this effect a lot with photos and movie clips on their page. An example of what I am trying to do can be found on the iLife/iPhoto/MobileMeGallery info page at Apple.
If you look to the right just under the main large banner images, there is a grey box titled "iPhoto Showcase." If you click one of the thumbnails there, the picture blows out to a larger size of the image, but doesn't take you to another page. The blow-up image has a little circle and X at the top left to close the window. Main page is still visible behind the blow-up window.
I'm using a fairly new MacBook with OS 10.5, iPhoto and iWeb '08. I also have Aperture 2.0. I don't have a .Mac or MobileMe account yet. I'm a recent convert from the Darkside, so right now I use google's Picasa Web Albums and google's website creator for my site. If I can get this to work, I'll make the switch MobileMe once the early .Mac conversion kinks get worked out.
    Thanks,
    TDizzle...

    Cyclosaurus--
That's the effect that I'm looking for. I've read through the instructions on Cabel's website (thanks for the great links!) But I'm afraid I'm still a bit of a novice with website creation and editing. I liked your iWeb examples, so I have a few follow-up questions about how to integrate this with iWeb.
    1) Do you use iWeb and .Mac/MobileMe to publish your site? I already own a domain and have been using google's online page creator tools to create some very basic pages. For picture pages, I just put up links to my Picasa web albums. But the google user interface and options (no FTP upload) are even more limited than iWeb and .Mac. With 20GB of storage, plus the other features and ability for integration, MobileMe sounds enticing for the price.
    2) At what point do you add the code to the pages in the edit and publish process? What are the exact steps you use to publish? (Create and edit in iWeb, add html code, publish to folder or publish straight to .Mac/MobileMe, etc.)
    3) If you make changes to pages in iWeb, do you have to keep adding the code to the pages and repeat the steps from above question?
    4) What app do you use to edit the html code? No html edit function in iWeb, so I tried opening the "page.html" files in TextEdit but the page just looked like a web page. No code. How do I get the text of the html code to open in TextEdit or another app?
    5) Do the lines of code (2 lines in "head" and 1 line in "body") need to be added to every page that I want to use the effect?
    6) How do you upload the two FancyZoom folders to a .Mac/MobileMe account site? And where exactly do they need to be placed?
    Thanks,
    TDizzle...

  • IWeb slideshow from photo page doesn't work

My photo page works OK when clicking on a particular picture, then using "next" & "previous" buttons".

  • Photo page and slideshow

is there a way to make the slide show automatically appear when a viewer clicks on the album instead seeing all of the pictures first?

You can't because the slideshow gets the images from the photo page and require photo page to be opened while the slideshow is playing.
And the only way to have auto slideshow is to disable browser popup windows (most people do block popup)
