Photo Quality horrible in iWeb....any ideas?

Hey everyone. I just finished making my website. Its very early, and Im just working out the kinks until worrying about making it a bit more appealing. Anyways, one of the issues Im having is photo quality. I am taking my photos on an 8mp camera. When I import them into iWeb they look compressed and horrible when viewed (once enlarged through slideshow or just clicking). If you want to check out the website to see what I mean, the adress is:
http://web.mac.com/jon_leibowitz/iWeb/Site/Home.html
go to gallery and click on any of them. The main aim of my website is my photography, so its crucial for the photos to look top notch. btw, Im using high resolution pictures, imported them into iPhoto, and then used the multimedia button to import them into iWeb. Thanks!

Hello Jonathan!
Really nice photos! You, no doubt, have a much better eye than I do for details and such and it's no wonder that various compression artifacts would be more noticeable to you! Your photos look very acceptable to me.
The downside to the iPhoto-to-iWeb one-click automatic process is that you the photographer lose control over two things... the quality of resolution scaling and the quality of jpg (re)compression. Preprocessing of your images in something like Photoshop would definitely give you more control over these variables and would most likely allow you to see more acceptable images as posted online.
For your information, the max resolution for the Apple enhanced slideshows is 800x600. If you import a photo at any higher resolution, iWeb will take over again and resize and recompress your photo. So my recommendation to you would be to preprocess your images to make them look good at 800x600 and prevent iWeb from doing anything else to your images.
I hope this helps.

Did you connect your iPad to your computer then open the application on your computer that transfers photos from a camera? Your computer should recognize the iPad as a camera. All photos in the Camera Roll on the iPad should then be seen and you should be able to copy them to the computer using that application.
Photos that were synced to your iPad by connecting to your syncing computer cannot be copied back this way as the master file for those photos are on the syncing computer.

If you have not done so, try exiting the Photo app (and maybe more apps if you have a lot open) from the Open Apps List and see if a discount/reconnect opens the app. If that does not work, try powering down the iPad and test. If it is still not working try a hard reset by pressing both Home and Sleep/Wake buttons at the same time until the Apple graphic appears, ignoring the Slide to Power Off button.

  • Photo quality problem in iWeb 08?

I'm still using iWeb '06 but thinking of upgrading. When the '08 version was new I saw some reports that photos handled by '08 were of lesser quality than that provided by iWeb '06. Is there any truth to this? If so, was it fixed?
My main use of iWeb is to post photos...

    Wyodor,
Yes, I agree, and use ImageWell to reduce resolution and adjust dimensions of photos for the web.
The information I had read was that there was a noticeable decline in quality after photos were uploaded through iWeb 08. (All other factors being equal.) That had given me second thoughts about upgrading, but upon learning it was not true, I did buy iLife 08 and am very pleased with the new features in iWeb and iPhoto.

I used to download and print photos from Facebook, but the HP Photosmart 8250 will no longer recognize these files on the SD card.  I believe Facebook recently updated it's photo format (incidentally, older images on Facebook still work fine).  Any ideas?
I'm running Windows XP, and have not changed anything on my setup.

  • Image quality lessened in iWeb; any reason for this.

    Hey everybody-
Sorry if you've read this once already. I posted this in another thread of mine, but I'm afraid it will get overlooked as the question is buried within a thread that doesn't deal with this issue. So, I figured I'd start a new one in hopes someone can help.
I've gotten all of my images up and running on my iWeb site. Prior to iWeb, I had the same images hosted on my .mac site. I've noticed that the same images that look really crisp and clear and not pixelized on the .mac site look much less so when i've placed them in iWeb. It's like iWeb rez's them down. Does anyone know if iWeb decreases the resolution of the images? I just find it weird that they look really nice on the .mac site, but look really poorly when using iWeb. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Sure thing...both are still up. It/they were intended to be a portfolio site for me (i'm an art director) so I was hoping iWeb could make it look a bit more polished than my .mac site. However, I'd tack the resolution I'm getting on the .mac over iWeb...unless we can figure out why this is happening. Here's the two...the content should be about identical, +/- an ad or two:
    .mac:
    http://homepage.mac.com/corysmith01/PhotoAlbum1.html
    iWeb site:
    http://web.mac.com/corysmith01/iWeb/portfolio/Print.html
Very weird. Just look at the first two Yahoo ads and you can see a fairly big difference.
Any ideas why that would happen?

  • Photo quality horrible due to dissolve transition

    Hi,
I am making a slideshow in Imovie for my son's baseball team. The pics I've shot are all super high resolution, but I inserted dissolve transitions between them and now the pictures are no longer sharp and have digitized edges. They looked great on the computer screen. When I burned it in iDVD they look horrible. Is there a transition that won't do this? The slide show is tomorrow and I am ready to scream. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Video Quality and Photo Quality HORRIBLE

I've looked all over the forums here and the only problem people seem to consistently harp on is the sluggishness/bugginess of the App. OK. I agree... BUT...
HAS ANYONE NOTICED THE QUALITY OF YOUR iMovie's IS NOW WORSE THAN 5?!
This is ridiculous! I cut two IDENTICAL movies and showed my friends and they could see it clear as daylight. One of them asked me if I encoded it using Real PLayer, posted it on a website, downloaded it, opened it in Mindows Media because THAT'S HOW AWFUL IT LOOKED.
A sluggish program is one thing, BUT MESSING WITH THE QUALITY OF MY MOVIE IS ANOTHER. This is the same kind of crap they did with lowering the resolution on iPhoto BOOKS that you order. WHAT?!
You get a little market share, Apple, and suddenly I'm chopped liver?!
GET TO WORK. THIS APP IS AWFUL.
My question: is anyone else having this "quality" issue? NOT the sluggishness, whatever, that is a problem, BUT MESSING WITH THE REZ OF MY PROJECTS?! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

I don't understand how you are importing your photos
into iMovie. Are you selecting File>Import? Because
I don't see where you can select any photo settings
related to KB when the import is done that way.
The solution isn't obvious, but it's pretty simple after you've discovered it.
When using the File > Import command to import a photo, you want to first configure the settings in the Photo Settings window. Do it before importing the image. Normally it is done by selecting a photo in the Media > Photos tab, pressing Show Photo Settings and configuring the import settings. Then import the photo(s) you want using one of the many import methods supported by iMovie.
(If you have no photo in iPhoto to click on in the Photos tab, first import any photo to the Timeline, select the imported clip, open the Media>Photos tab, open the Photo Settings window, configure new settings, then Update the clip. The updated settings will become the default import settings for your next import(s).)
Note that the current settings of the Photo Settings window apply to all future imports until you change the settings or click on a clip imported with different settings.
One of iMovie's most convenient features is that clicking on a previously-imported photo clip automatically applies its import settings to subsequent imports — it configures the Photo Settings window. This allows you to select any clip that has the settings you want to apply those settings to subsequent imports. In fact, you can create a "stable" of clips that use a variety of import settings, then click on the clip you want to be the pattern for your upcoming photo imports.
I have yet to be asked about rendering.
iMovie will ask when you share the project with iDVD or other destination, not before. That's when you need to refuse permission to render. It only asks if photos were previously imported with the Ken Burns checkbox off.

  • Help! I ve lost all my photos...anyone have any idea where they may be stored on my Mac?

I seem to have lost all my photos from my i library  - does anyone know how to serch for them please.

In addition to Keith's suggest it sounds like you may not be backing up your computer. I would STRONGLY recommend getting a good quality external HD and beginning to use Time Machine at the very least. If you are not familiar with TM then please watch this short Time Machine Tutorial video. This will help protect you in the event of losing some data. If your system had "lost" the iPhoto library with TM it would take only a few minutes to restore.

  • HT201317 My shared photostream keeps deleting all the photos and shows empty. Any ideas why ?

I've shared a photo folder on my Ipad which I use to send or share photos with other family members on a different apple account. Twice in the last week it has emptied the folder of its photos and left an empty folder. Can anyone offer advice on how to stop this ?

Try to follow steps in that article, usually shared photostreams do not have exparation, so it sounds like you didn't actually share one.

  • Crunmmy photo quality in Safari

I get poor quality photos quality using Safari in any site.No problem with Firefox. My daughter running e-Mac with same Mac system no problem with Safari. New to Mac and a bit disappointed,I thought Mac were the tops for graphics & photos.Any ideas please. Many thanks

    Hi Tools,
Try turning off the accelerator, I'll bet that is the culprit.
The accelerators usually downsample the picture quality to reduce the filesize of the images at the expense of quality, but improving speed.
I think they usually work by directing requests to a proxy server - in firefox you normally have to set this manually which may be why it appears to work fine, but Safari doesn't.
Enjoy your sleep and catch you tomorrow...
