Photo Recall Effect -- Changing Part of Screen Captured

Everything I've tried moves the photo around the screen, but doesn't change what part of the screen appears in the photo. I couldn't find instructions for this in the FCP PDF manual. Does anyone know how to do this? Am I supposed to crop the scene first and then apply the effect or something? Thank you.

There are two styles in Photo Recall: 1) Classic in which the entire storyline is scaled down to fit inside the picture frame; and 2) Instant in which a small portion of the center of the storyline is fit inside a "polaroid" style frame.
In order to do what you want requires modifications in Motion...
After nosing around for a couple of minutes, I realized that those modifications would be too difficult to explain here, so I did them myself and you can download the replacement here:

It's the exact (almost*) same with the following additions:
The ability to Rotate the "photo" (the whole "effect")
The ability to offset the image within the photo by X (Img X Offset) and Y (Img Y Offset)
The ability to relatively Scale (this is an offset from the original Scale parameter) the Image within the frame (-50% to 100% parameter setting - actual scale is not easily calculable because there is a difference between the Scaling of the Classic as opposed to the Instant built into the effect [~51% vs ~79%]).
The ability to Rotate the image inside the photo frame (this is a separate rotation than the photo rotation) from -180° to 180° (if you want more - you'll need to modify this in Motion -- you'll find the parameter settings in the Img Rotation Rig Widget.)
*I had to replace the "Simple Border" filter applied to the "Classic" inset with two Rectangle shapes: one as an outline for the border and one to create a Mask so that the photo could be maneuvered inside the frame. This keeps this variation of the Effect from being exactly the same as the original. If you don't like the "border" width, or you would like to add that as a parameter for the Effect, you can do so in Motion.

Color changes (darkens) in screen capture - color sync gamma setting?

I encountered this weird effect that the color darkens when I did a screen capture in one Mac but not the other.
In fact, it darkens more with shift-ctrl-cmd-4 (selection capture) than with shift-ctrl-cmd-3 (whole screen capture).
The knowledge base mentioned the gamma setting in http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3712 but the color darkens in the clipboard, so there is no way to change the color sync if it is not a file. I tried to re-calibrate my display using different gamma setting, but it didn't change any color.
In my other Mac, I can do a screen capture and the color is preserved as is. It is only in one Mac that did this. The color darkens so much that it practically becomes black-and-white.
Any suggestion would help. I think it has something to do with the color sync profile setting.

I found out that the darkening of the color in screen capture is caused by screenshot captured into jpeg. The darkening happens when the lines are thin, due to the averaging effect of jpeg. If the lines are thick, then the change in color is not apparent.
Now, the problem is, I can't change screen capture to capture in png. I used Tinker Tool, and deleted com.apple.screencapture.plist , nothing would change it back to capture in png.

Motion 5 effect similar to Photo Recall ?

Hi all,
In Motion yiu have the Photo Recall effect, which takes a clip/photo as foreground and presents a blurred background of that same clip/photo. When this effect is applied to a portrait picture, it allows you to scale the foreground, but not background. Applied to a portrait photo, this effectively means the background will be the width of the photo and I can only scale down the foreground.
What I would like is to fill the complete background (16:9) with a zoomed/blurred version of the photo instead of only a portion of the screen. (See image) I have been experimenting with cloning of the effect source, but I cannot figure out how to do this. Does anybody have an idea ?

It is part of the solution. What I need to do is publsh the foreground scale as well and in addition I must use the clip scale to get the background to cover the whole 16:9
In practice this will mean so much tinkering after applying the effect, that it will be easier to just add the same picture to the FCPX clip in a second video track and apply scaling and blurring to it.
It would be so much easier when Motion would support multiple instances of Effect Source, each with its own set of properties.

Need help in screen capturing for flash CS4 AS3

I am currently doing Augmented Reality.
I got my marker to detect my model but my problem now is how to screen capture the content that is in swf.
(As in capture the dae model shown in the comp not from webcam.)
& also i just want to capture the swf window not the whole desktop.
I read online, they say its impossible?
Or is it possible to call screen capture function in javascript to flash CS4? (LIke external data)
(Moreover, does anyone know how to detect multiple dae models with different markers?)

My current program (Flash CS4, AS3) only can capture what the webcam sees.
How do i change it to screen capture (something like print screen) with my .DAE models?

Screen Capture file location?

Suddenly my screen captures are sent only to the clipboard instead of the desktop as they used to. How can I change that back? I'm using ShiftCtrl+Cmd4 or ShiftCtrl+Cmd3.
Also, where would you change where the screen capture files ends up?

You're pushing too many buttons. The additional ctrl button copies to the clipboard.
See the Preference panels>Keyboard>keyboard Shortcuts for the list of buttons.

Xbox 360 Screen Capture

I was wondering, what is the most effective way to take screen captures of a game I'm playing on my TV (high resolution, preferably), and place it on my computer for my website?
I'm using a Macbook.

I use one of the Eye TV Hybrid devices - it has s-video/composite inputs as well as the HDTV digital and analog TV signals.
The manual says that you can use this arrangment to record from your game console (they claim that the delay through the device is sufficiently small to allow you to play the game using the computer as the screen). I've not done this myself but I have used it to record from my VHS player - not the same resolution you are after (but that it the 'fault' of the recorder) and the process works very well.

This works for me:
defaults write com.apple.screencapture type XXX
where XXX is one of png, pdf, jpeg-jfif, jpeg 2000, tiff, pict, bmp, gif, psd, sci, or tga. You need to log out and back in for the change to take effect.

Changing file type format in Screen Capture (shift command 4)

You'd think this would be in a preference menu! But it's nowhere to be found in any apps preference or system preferences.... I've seen posts how to do it in Terminal... and people sell programs to do it.... but Tiger and Leopard have t built in.. sort of....
The default file format when using SCREEN CAPTURE (ShiftCommand4) was a .pdf ... but then it was changed to .png Some people can't read .png... so I wanted my captures to be in .jpg format.
You can change the file format type of your SCREEN CAPTURE to any of the following:
JPG, JPG-2000, TIFF, BMP, PDF, Photoshop, PICT, SGI, PBG, TGA
But first you have to have a file you want to change (say it is a png).
Open the file using Preview.
Once open, under File (in the menu bar) go down to SAVE AS.
There's you'll see FORMAT and a pull down menu. Choose which one you want...
Screen capture will now open your captured pictures in that format.
Crazy, huh?

The OP here was using a keyboard shortcut, not Grabber.
I did some further exploring. I just tried TinkerTool again, and again was able to change the file format of saved screencapture files to jpeg. TinkerTool modifies the com.apple.screencapture.plist file the same way that the Terminal command does.
This clearly works for command-shift-3 and command-shift-4, which save the screencapture image as a file. However, on looking more closely at the O.P.s initial post in this thread, he/she actually said

When you include the control key in the command, the screencapture image gets saved to the clipboard instead of to a file, and you wouldn't normally be aware of its format until you pasted the clipboard contents somewhere else. I don't know where the OP was pasting it, but as was noted in the thread cited above by Baltwo, pasting a sceencapture image from the clipboard into a mail.app message results in a .tiff file being pasted. I also find this to be true in my system - perhaps this is what the OP was doing all along.
However this is an issue caused by the receiving app, not by the screencapture function. It's possible to look directly at the contents of the clipboard via:
Finder>Edit Menu>Show Clipboard
With my screenshot format set to jpeg by TinkerTool, I used control-command-shift-4 to save a screenshot to the clipboard. Looking directly at the clipboard in Finder as above, the clipboard image was a jpeg. When I then pasted the clipboard contents into a mail message and used Mail>File Menu>QuickLook Attachments, the pasted graphic in the mail message was a .tiff.

If you purchased about 2 years ago new I am sure it is a Intel iMac. To find out what type of iMac you have just click on the Apple menu item in the finder and select about this Mac. I would check the ISP mail site and get the correct outgoing mail server info.

How can I change the screen capture default filename and location?

AS3 and AS4 screen capture keystrokes create badly named files in a bad location, i.e., picture1.png, picture2.png, etc. on the desktop. This is silly, as it creates un-differentiable files. I would at least like to change the filename template, and at best also the location that they go to, but I can't figure out how to do this, if it's even possible. (The filename should have a timestamp, not just a sequence number, for example: picture_200911181234.png or whatever -- pretty much anything but a simple sequence number!)

Use TinkerTool to change the download location for the screenshots. However, AFAIK, you're stuck with those names unless you a folder action to the download location such that it will change the names according to some scheme you devise. For that, try a google search for *folder actions mac*.
